Stopped by this place looking for a good local dinner, boy was I impressed! All sandwiches are cooked/steamed which brings out the flavors and the toppings are plentiful and customizable. Hugh quality meats and cheeses, I don't know how the prices are so low for the quality. We had a turkey sandwich and a pastrami sandwich. Both were outstanding! We finished both sandwiches and we weren't even that hungry. The staff were kind, and the cookies were also a 10. Looking forward to going again soon. read more

Around since 1977 I've been going there since the early 90's off and on for their sandwiches. My first time back was last week. I took a few years hiatus as the food quality dropped. However, I heard they had new ownership so I gave it re-do. It was okay, but still not quite the way Mike and Rosy made it happen. I had the Philly Cheese Steak, and the mini pizza bagels. The Cheese Steak was a 4 out of 5. It satisfied my appetite, but didn't make me look forward to a return visit, like the By Golly Burger (see that review). The Pizza bites were a 1 out of 5. The bagels were soggy, the sauce was sour, and reminded me of a jar of Ragu (which you may like, but not for me). I will go back as the place has a nice ambiance and the service is quick. Some times, it's what you order, at others it's how it was prepared that day. I'm hoping it's the latter. read more

We go here yearly when we visit Springfield. I enjoy the pizza bagels on an onion bagel or the famous hoagie. You cannot go wrong. My husband had a pastrami and out 6 year old had a turkey sub. My husband liked his and my daughter said hers was good, but the meat wasn't drained well and made the bottom bread a little soggy. We ALL enjoy the infamous salt stick with cream cheese- their fresh bread is delicious. We also all got a cookie from D's Sweets afterward. Had not been there for a few months. 5 people behind counter but it appeared only 1 was making food & 1 ringing up orders. As a customer since they opened I always order turkey on white rye with Danish butter, cheese, mustard, and mayonnaise and extra pickle, chips & Diet Coke- super freaking delicious. That's why I always ordered the same thing. I was very disappointed to find out they do not carry light rye anymore only dark rye. So I had to settle for white. The service killed my experience. Walked in about 6pm today (Sunday 7/20/25) some of our family was already there, no other customers. Total there were 8 adults and one two year old. 4 of the adults were there already and eating in the patio style room with a tv watching the Maverick movie, the other four adults ordered when we got there. There was a younger woman and younger man working. They didn't say anything when we walked in and just kinda waited awkwardly for us to order. Mother in law went to use the restroom while we ordered and went to join our family. The food came out about ten mins later (if that, it was rather quick) and it was good. I got a Ruben on sourdough with no Italian and my husband got the standard Ruben. Corned beef was good, not dry. Overall sandwich was great. While eating I needed to use the restroom, I'm pregnant. So I walked towards the other side of the place where the bathroom would be but was stopped and told me that section is closed off. They had placed a chair there too. I was like I need to use the restroom. They were like no it's closed...I was very confused. I'd never been in a restaurant where the bathroom was closed (or the only customers in the place hasn't been told prior to it being closed) I walked back and my husband's cousin was like what's wrong, I told him that they closed the area and the bathroom. He is a very abrupt military guy. He was like uh no that's not legal and walked to go to the bathroom. I wasn't up for the drama. But he walked over there and when they tried to stop him he said why is it closed, they said because they mopped.... He was like that's not legal to not allow your paying customers access to a restroom because you decided to mop at 615pm and you don't even close until 8pm. You have to provide a bathroom especially when someone could have a medical necessity. Then he walked straight through and went to the bathroom..I wasn't trying to cause a scene so I just went across the street to the convenience store...but that really kinda destroyed the place for us. Like I get they don't have any other people in there and they probably wanted to not be there themselves but the customer service level was horrible.. when he got out of the restroom we all left..pity because the food was pretty good but we won't be back unfortunately. read more

Amazing quality food with a fun, small sandwich shop feel. My husband and his family have been to this deli since he was young and are huge fans. When we were back in town for a quick visit, I was determined to try this place out. You order everything and watch them prepare your sandwich which I love. The service was fast and friendly which is always nice but dang that sandwich was good. I don't even get anything crazy (Italian on white) but it was that good. We have actually been here a few more times since our first visit, and it's always been great. read more

I got a Corned beef Reuben and they were out of the bread it normally came on so they put some thick sliced bread that was dry and hard to eat. I also got a Submarine sandwich and the bread was hard. Good subs. Mike and Rosy's is a classic. This has been a favorite around Wittenberg. Inside it has a classic deli counter. There's also sauces for sale. A lot to notice when you walk in. Inside it smells really good. This has to do with them steaming the buns, which helps make their sandwiches unique. In the main part of the deli is the counter. There's a seating area to the left of this. It's a deli but it's also a store. There's racks and racks of barbecue sauce and hot sauce for sale, many of which are are to find in any other stores. I had the vegetable hoagie. This is about $7 for a whole. It came stuffed with so much. The bun was not to be overlooked. It's pretty good. Closest to a New York style deli you can get around here. I have been going here since I was in college at Wittenberg (2003 grad) and they have always been good. We recently reunited with some college friends on their way through. The updated sports bar area was a nice addition and we were able to sit on the now enclosed patio and visit on a Friday night and enjoy our sandwiches. I had a Rueben, my go to for many many years and it was just as good as I remember. Don't expect it to me toasted, all their sandwiches are steamed? I believe. We were first time customers looking for a unique eats place to visiting in Springfield. From the beginning it was not a good experience. the cashier was no help. We yried to decipher what we need to do as we stared at the menu. I order our meat for sandwich and she rudely stared until I got the hint that I need to add bread and cheese. Happen to my partner too but he was slightly more prepared. They then directed us to shop around and they would call our order out. They did not ask if we wanted any topping so we pondered if we would get only a meat, and cheese sandwich. We walked around but nothing else had prices. I wanted a fountain drink but there was no cups so ended up Getting a bottle, also without a price. We walked into the dining area and enjoyed the memorabilia, lots of cool jerseys and things with famous signatures. Our 2 8inch sandwiches( meat, bread, and cheese, with two floppy pickles) and 1 can and 1 bottle cost $31 and change. My bread was already soggy on my sandwich. I was highly disappointed and only ate 1/2. They have a upstairs bar that look like a nice place unfortunately it was not open when we were there. the lack of direction or even a small amount of customer service or guidance could have made this experience a good first experience. unfortunately neither happened. Stopped in ordered 2 sandwiches got a bag of chips with 2 fountain drinks. After being charged for the 2 fountain drinks all were empty and they wouldn't refill them. Total was $37.00 which I can drive to the next town (12 miles) and pay $15 less. I don't plan on going back. read more

i am a Springfield native and have experienced the original opening of this deli, and have unfortunately witnessed its demise. This past Sunday I called several hours before closing to submit an order. After calling several times with no answer, I drove to the deli. I stood inside for several minutes, no workers, no customers. After searching the back and announcing myself, I found two young employees loafing around ainlessly. I said I wanted to place an order, they looked at each other, and said they were closed. I said these are normal hours, and your door is open. Sorry, we're closed. No explanation, and looking at these two I realized I wasnt going to get a coherent reply. As the food is already overpriced they probably did me a favor. Never going back, stay away. read more

Our office ordered M & R Deli delivered in for lunch. I'm trying to stick to salads/lighter stuff for lunch, and have to say that their tossed salad (with added sliced chicken breast) was ENORMOUS and really had a GREAT variety of veggies (not just lettuce and a few raggedy, leftover looking shreds of "whatever's leftover from the subs, errr... hoagies). I split it and had it for two days (thanks, company's dime!!!). I also ordered their cup of "homemade" mushroom soup, which I'm pretty sure was Campbells w/lots of added fresh mushrooms. Big cup, LOTS of mushrooms = Fine with me!! I've been here before for the subs, which were ehhhhh, so-so, nothing all that memorable, and their upstairs sports bar/pub is fine, but now that I know they've got great salads, we're all set. P.S. We ordered from here in good faith from word of mouth. I'm very disappointed that a bowl of chicken noddle soup was missing from our order when we got back to our clinic. When we called them to let them know we were missing one bowl we were told "I put two bowls in the bag." However our receipt said 3 bowls. So my co-worker went to the deli to show this individual the receipt. She insisted she put it out bag. Not only did we not have the bowl of soup now we are out the money for a bowl we did not receive. So with this experience I myself along with a couple of my co-workers will not be back. Very good quality food in a small deli with unique sports decor. I enjoyed an Italian Sub while my wife enjoyed a Philly Cheesesteak with a cup of Cream of Mushroon soup. She was so impressed with the obviously homemade soup, she ordered some to take home. Lots of choices here in a nice clean and well lit restaurant. This is a special place to grab a sandwich. Having steamed sandwiches doesn't sound very unique, but it's truly one of only two places I've ever had them and Mike and Rosys make the best! I have been eating their food my entire and I still love it. I recommend anyone who likes cream cheese to add it to any sandwich. The sub comes out with crispy but still soft bread with perfectly cooked meat and melted cheese. The addition of the cream cheese takes it to another level, it's soooo good. Definitely try a salt stick with extra cheese, it's another unique treat you can't get anywhere else around Springfield. A pizza bagel And a bag of BBQ dirty chips are also a great choice. A bit 'soggy' because they are steamed and then put in foil and then sat a few minutes since we called ahead and picked up for a work luncheon. They also have a great selection of chips and drinks. I use to go to the old place back in the 1970 and 80;s and it was pretty good, But went away a few years came back and seen the new place and sports bar, I ask for a Italian Sub like always, and the casher and assistant couldn't stop chatting while waiting on me and she put one slice tomato and a couple slices of lunch meat and wrapped it up, And he charged me almost 7 bucks and didn't stop talking to his gal pal next to him that made my sandwich.I wen out side took a bite and trashed it, I was a Government Agent at local Factory and my people use to get our lunches there but after this we never went back, I spent years in Philadelphia so know what a sub or hoagie is made of and I at least expect close when its advertised, This is not one that can make it close. read more

I rode over to Springfield to meet up with a couple of friends for supper, and they picked Mike & Rosy's. This place is apparently a longstanding neighborhood institution and it both looks and feels old, but in a good and comforting way. As delis go, this one is a little different in that they only serve sandwiches on rolls. I ordered corned beef and swiss on rye, and you guessed it - it came out on a dark rye roll. Okay, fair enough as it was pretty tasty. I added a bag of chips and a bottled soda from the cooler, all for about $15. They have a ground floor patio area that faces the street, and if you go upstairs there is a full bar (that feels like a completely different business) with a small-medium back patio. They have a large inside dinning room as well, but we chose to eat out back. Another anomaly is that they only serve hot sandwiches that have been steamed. There is no grill, and if you want you sandwich cold you need to tell them when you order as steamed is their default. We arrived just after 5:00 and the place was busy. You order at the counter and then step back and wait until your order is ready, and ours took maybe 10-15 minutes. Not bad, but not great. The place was staffed exclusively by kids, so I'm fine cutting a little slack. My buddy's girlfriend showed up after the rest of us had already eaten, and her service was much quicker due to the dinner rush being mostly over. I dropped one star because the place could use a little cleaning. In all fairness, I would have given them three stars if it was a Jimmy Johns or Subway, but my rating is taking into account the historic value and quaintness of the place. They also need to find a better way to deal with the condensation under the steamers, which are currently on top of cafeteria trays that fill up with standing water. read more

Do not go here if you have anywhere to be. I walked on and ordered 2 soups, it took over 15 minutes. There were 3 employees myself and one other customer (who you could see was extremely frustrated). It took the cashier 5 minutes to figure out my change, even after I told him the correct amount, since I could see he was struggling. They continued to talk among each other rather than fill orders.....and by the way, one of the soups no ordered was ICE, not warm, cold, as if they took it from the fridge. Great neighborhood sandwich shop with a long history. Not enough places steam their sandwiches, Mike & Rosy's has this great smell because of years of steaming sandwiches. The smell is permanently etched into my mind. They don't make places like this anymore. Good bagels, good soup, good subs. I like ham and Swiss. It's a fun place to visit. They have a lot of gourmet items and tons of different hot sauces. They have pizza, but you can only order it in the evening, no lunch pizzas. The bar is sportsing and mostly lit by red neon and tv.
