Went here for the first time for the Eclipse party. What a great excuse to eat ice cream! I ordered the Windy City Dog ($7.99) while hubby got the Cod Fish sandwich ($7.99) & a side of fries ($5.29). We both got Dole Whips for dessert. Hubby didn't even want to go here but ended up liking his cod sandwich & Dole Whip. Both of us agreed the fries were way overpriced & not that good. My "Chicago dog" was a little pricey & just okay - way too much mustard that overwhelmed the other flavors. I would order it again with the mustard on the side. The cod sandwich was huge & tasty - highly recommend. Our car hop took good care of us & we tipped her accordingly. We would like to return here & support a locally owned family restaurant. Looking forward to trying the burgers!

Being that I absolutely love Root Beer, I had to give the Root Beer Stande a shot! Pulled up and sat for a moment, I thought this was a car hop but I figured that maybe things had changed so I got out of the car and that prompted the waitress to come and greet me. She gave us an updated menu that had a lot more to choose from. I ordered the Hanky Panky Burger basket. The Hanky Panky is a bacon cheeseburger with a special sauce and grilled cheese sandwiches for buns. The basket came with fries and a drink, so I obviously got a root beer. The waitress advised me that they are cash only, but she could accept Cash App. I ended up Cash Apping her for my meal and the food came out fairly quickly. The burger looked amazing and it was! My only complaint with my burger would be that I wish it had a little more of the secret sauce. The fries were standard-issue crinkle fries, but they were hot so that was a plus! The house root beer was a bit underwhelming because it lacked the kick that usually comes with most root beers. I will likely try the red cream soda when I return. My wife got the Phillio Cheesesteak and she said the meat was good, but the veggies were heavily salted. She also got an order of fried mushrooms, and she really enjoyed them. We both agreed that we would definitely try them again in the future! Hanky Panky Burger 1-5=4.9! Fries 1-5=3.5. Root Beer 1-5=2. Customer Service 1-5=4.

Not today. Lol. Love the food here! Show them love! Roxannenicole0 insta

While visiting the Dayton Ohio area we stopped at the Root Beer Stande. I saw that it was the Retro Old Fashioned Curb Service and it was Hot Dogs and Root Beer what a wonderful Nostalgic foodie adventure. We pulled in and the waitress was there "Toot-sweet". I ordered 2 Hot Dogs with Chili, Mustard and Onions. They do not put Cole Slaw on the Dogs here I also ordered a large Root Beer, which I was hoping was HOMEMADE but not..Tony had his own Beverage of Choice in the car already. The food was good! The Chili or sauce on the dog was very good but the onions were strong from being a little old maybe a day or so. But I would eat here again, strong onions don't keep me away!!! I recommend this nice little Mom and Pop Retro Foodie Adventure!!!

    No cash only sign!

Horrible service ! Complicated payment ! It is definitely not worth your day to be there !

This is a place I assumed I'd been before, and maybe I had, long ago, but never reviewed. It's a real old-time root beer stand (why the extra "e"?) You park, and they come to serve you, using a tray on your window if you want. I was here for the root beer, mainly, but had some lunch too, and it was all good. The root beer came in a heavy frosted mug. Nice head, great flavor. Tasted homemade (though they have a Frostop sign, so I'm not sure.) I had the "super burger" which is two patties, mayo, lettuce, tomato, cheese, etc. A really good burger. Thin patties with good flavor. Good bun and toppings. Also had fried cauliflower. Again, very good. Service was good. Prices are reasonable (all of the above for $10.) It's a nice place for nostalgia and root beer, but also a really good lunch or dinner.

a hot dog and french fries

Living in east Dayton 60 years and being at root beer stand can't count how many times in my youth. I have not been in several years. This is what I got today after spending $20. 2 short hot dogs and 2 fries. Kids could only eat a few of the fries they were so under cooked. The hot dogs were no better than what you can get at speedway for $1 a piece. Avoid this place like the plague!!!

The husband-and-wife team behind Grist has created one of the most inventive pasta menus you'll find anywhere. It's casual--you order at the counter--but don't mistake that for ordinary dining. We started with the rosemary Parmesan focaccia and the cow's milk burrata. Both were excellent. The focaccia was simple, fresh, and perfectly executed, while the burrata was an absolute standout. For our entrées, we had the Mafalda al Agnello, Raviolo al'Uovo, Spring Pea Agnolotti, and Tonnarelli di Mare. Every pasta was handmade and beautifully prepared. The Mafalda stole the show, with wide, ruffled ribbons coated in an incredible braised lamb sauce. The Raviolo al'Uovo was unlike anything I've had before--a single oversized raviolo with remarkable flavor and a presentation that was as memorable as it was delicious. Grist is proof that great dining doesn't require white tablecloths. It simply requires talented people making exceptional food. We couldn't recommend it more.

So we just walked in, and the host was kind enough to let us sit at the little bar area near the window. I like their ordering system. You have many options --- go up to the cash register and order there, order from the server who comes by your table (or in our case, bar), or use your phone by scanning the QR code. And if you use your phone, each person in your party can do it themselves on their own phone. Regardless, it all gets added to the same order for the same table. Pretty slick. At the end, when it comes time to pay, the app lets you split the check however you want, and you can even see the name of the person that ordered each item. The food was incredible. It's not cheap, and the portions are a little smaller than some might expect at an Italian restaurant. But for us, it was filling enough. I personally had the raviolo, which was delicious. Little did I know that in Italian, "raviolo" is singular while "ravioli" is plural. So I got one giant raviolo on my plate (see picture). I didn't care much for the runny egg yolk on top, but it was as advertised on the menu. All the other food orders were amazing, especially the desserts. I'd definitely come back once my food budget resets.

The wait is well worth it. My biggest tip is to arrive close to opening if you can. They're incredibly popular, and because their bread takes three days to make, they can sell out if there's an unexpected rush. One helpful note for first-time visitors is to walk all the way inside to place your order at the register in the back. We ordered the L'Alveo and the La Rossa, and both were outstanding. They happened to be serving them on gluten-free bread that day, due to the mad rush and honestly, I never would have known it was fantastic. The sandwiches were fresh, flavorful, and incredibly filling. The L'Alveo was rich, creamy, and wonderfully indulgent, while the La Rossa was bright and refreshing. The eggplant in the La Rossa was the star. Every bite was excellent. What really made the experience stand out, though, was the hospitality. The owner was warm, welcoming, and clearly passionate. We'll definitely be back. If you're thinking about trying this place, don't wait! Get there early before they sell out for the day!

I'm not a big fan, the reason why I'm giving it 5 stars even tho is not up to my standards of taste, that's because of me, everyone taste are different, I'm not going to let what my taste effect my stars rating, the food still good, place is clean, my server is friendly A bit expensive, I walked out of there $30, for a sandwicH, fries and soup, in a tiny little town of Dayton? Definitely a popular place. I noticed many construction workers but also several families with kids. The menu was fairly simple: burgers, sandwiches, burritos, chili, salad. Customers line up at the counter to place their orders. There were several cheese options for the sandwiches and burritos. There was an extensive breakfast menu. I would probably return for breakfast, but I wasn't overly impressed with the burrito I ordered for lunch. When I ordered a burrito, and was asked what I wanted on the burrito I started with asking for beans and rice. That request earned a rather puzzled look from the employee, and he said they didn't have beans. I guess I had just assumed that if they had burritos on the menu they would have beans and rice to put in them. So I just requested cheese and chopped tomatoes, lettuce, black olives, salsa, and chipotle sauce. The burrito was fine. The food quality was average to slightly below average. For example, an employee opened a large bag of shredded lettuce in front of me and dumped it into the bin. I'm guessing other ingredients were prepackaged and pre prepped. Employees were friendly and obviously this place is a local favorite. Prices are very reasonable. I would give it another try for breakfast but wouldn't order another burrito.
