Excellent protection of glass slider door

I picked Mike based on these reviews and the fact that he's one of only a handful of guys who have an active concrete license, bond and insurance with a clean BBB rating. Mike is an "old school" concrete guy. He's got decades of practical experience and is as crusty as his product. He won't sugar-coat it if you try to get him to do something impractical. However, if you respect his craft, he's really pleasant to work with. I'm an OCD engineer who added a 2 page detailed addendum to his basic contract proposal and I still didn't crack his composure!-) Mike was very responsive throughout the bidding process and his project delivery was very expedient - 3 days start to finish. He did a great job at projecting my property and was respectful of both street access for my neighbors and the plantings out side my fence. So why not a 5th star? I made 3 mistakes in drafting the contract and monitoring this job. First, I let him talk me out of using dobbies to support the rebar to keep it in the middle of the slab. They're a pain to set up and step over and he said that "pulling up" the rebar with a hook during the poor would work just as well. I watched this process and it flat out does not work in an enclosed patio. As you can see from the photo, there's a crowd of guys in there standing on the rebar. As fast as one guy would pull it up, another guy would step on it as he was maneuvering the concrete hose. As a result, my rebar is in the bottom inch of my 4" slab. It probably won't be an issue for such a lightly loaded area, but I'd be a little concerned about a driveway or garage floor. Second, as his guys were struggling to chalk the grading lines along my foundation and fence walls, he repeatedly told them not to bother with the laser level. They also did all of the grading work from just these chalk lines - which unsurprisingly were soon covered by concrete. As a result, my patio drains diagonally and towards one wall of the house rather flowing uniformly from the house to the fence. The only saving grace is that the water ends up at the patio gate and flows outside before it has a chance to pool much against the wall. The lack of reference lines was also visible in the control joints that are almost, but not quite straight. Third, even though the main support post penetrated the soil, one of Mike's crew decided to create a fake footer form around its base so that it would look like the 3 small posts that were already set on piers above grade. It was an ugly tripping hazard, but Mike was exasperated by being so close to the finish line and not wanting to delay the final day with rework. It was my mistake to acquiesce as I ultimately had to pay him extra to come out a week later and remove it (which eliminated tripping, but looks rushed and rough). I do want to say that this was a VERY difficult job as a small enclosed space with 4 support posts to work around. Mike's crew had serious clearance challenges in using the screed boards to create an even grade and smooth finish. If this were a driveway or even a garage, I think they'd have produced a more uniform result. Finally, you get out of a project what you put into it. Do your homework, put everything in writing and communicate continuously throughout the process. Project issues are the homeowner's fault rather than the contractor's 80% of the time.

I am writing this minutes after asking Mike to leave my property. If I could assign negative stars, this would go beyond everything I could assign to warn people to NEVER hire such a rude and incompetent fellow. He is well set for retirement and could not have been more inconsiderate. I absolutely DO NOT recommend calling him to assist with any projects. He lacks expertise, creativity, and is reluctant to accommodate and/or brainstorm with his clients as to what options may be available. He is the epitome of the old dog that doesn't want to (cannot?) learn new tricks; perhaps even the old dog that needs to be put down. That said, overall - I DO NOT tolerate rude behavior when I ask you to come and be a professional for hire. The initial request for appointment started off acceptable. He picked up his phone promptly and then set an appointment within the next day at a time of convenience. From there, it escalated to such an infuriating incident that I cannot even begin to capture the level of unprofessionalism. We welcomed him onto our property. A few sentence out of my mouth about what we were seeking.. he rudely yells: "STOP. What the hell are you talking about?" I indicated the need for a new cement walkway entering in. It doesn't take a professional to identify that the pitch of the walkway was improper, the step in dire need of repair, etc. I excused that first instance and we continued with the quote. I presented to him various aspects of our research -- various ideas brainstormed from others who have come to take a look at our property. Instead of receiving the ideas and taking a moment to consider them, he automatically shut them down saying that those were unavailable options. After refuting back to him, he conceded that they were in fact available options but not options he would willingly like to do. At one point, he seemed to underhandedly mention: "You won't have enough funds for what you want. We all want Disneyland but we're not getting it." Excuse me? We held no discussion as to the availability of funds or project parameters. The entire conversation quickly escalated into an argument. The last I checked, I was the potential client. He demanded to know how many people I called. I presented that information was irrelevant and that several people have placed bids. That's core to your industry; perhaps you missed that memo -- along with the memo about being polite to potential clients. In this day and age of the internet, who wouldn't do due diligence in their research? He just threw up his hands and said forget it. I thanked him and asked him to please leave our property. I found him on here, so I return the favor of warning others against calling him. Feel free to PM me with any questions. His portfolio is presentable despite less than 10 reviews on Yelp. Perhaps in a younger less jaded chapter of his life, he provided great services. Whatever the case, this was a level of unprofessionalism I do not tolerate.

I hired Mike to do my driveway expansion after I saw how great of a job he did on my neighbors driveway and walkway. I had a complex project to expand my driveway to fit two cars that involved: demoing and removing existing concrete in place, demo of a fence, excavation of a ton of soil, movement of a 3 valve sprinkler system, and pouring a large wrap around curve/wall to accommodate the road's slope for a new fence. Mike helped me solve the problem by assisting with the design, and was able to tackle the project efficiently, on budget and with excellent quality. He collaborated with my fence contractor so the posts of the fence could be installed prior to the concrete pour. I highly recommend this business for their honesty, responsiveness, fair pricing and high quality work.

Mike and his crew replaced some concrete steps and a walkway at our condo complex and he and his crew did a fantastic job. There were on time during the 3 days it took to do the project and they communicated with me throughout the project. I would highly recommend Mike for any concrete project.

I needed a concrete driveway to park an 8,000 pound boat being towed by a 6,500 pound vehicle and Mike poured a perfect slab at an unbeatable price. I told Mike I thought that I needed a 6" slab but he told me that he could save me money by pouring a 4" slab and that it would do the job and he was exactly right. I observed Mike's progress and noted that he doubled up reinforcement at the edges that would be exposed to the most stress and he even added some fish stamps to the concrete that my toddler loves to point at and yell "fish". The grading and surface texture were perfect, there was no debris left behind and Mike got the job done in the exact time frame that he quoted. Mike was a pleasure to work with and he really knows what he's doing. I'd like to address the individuals who gave Mike a one star review due to poor customer service. If you read their reviews, it's pretty obvious that these individuals called Mike after seeing some cool pictures on Instagram and wanted him to entertain their wild speculations on what they could do to their property. I HATE people like that. Somehow, they decided that the world revolves around them and that contractors should put up with their daydreaming for hours on end. Mike doesn't get paid to listen to you, he gets paid to pour concrete, so stop talking to him like he's got nothing better to do. Mike is not a landscape designer, he is a concrete guy. If you want someone to listen to your backyard design plans, go visit a landscaping or hardscaping company. If you want someone to pour an awesome slab of concrete at a great price, call Mike with some basic parameters and he'll get the job done.

I hired Mike to repair my concrete staircase, which was deteriorating where some of the posts had been (badly) patched previously. Concrete chunks were falling off and some posts weren't stable, creating a potentially dangerous situation. I had a hell of a time finding a company that would do this type of work, because most wanted to demo the entire staircase and put in a new one, but that wasn't in my budget. Mike responded immediately and was able to come out and provide a quote the next day. He even took me over to another similar job he'd done so I could see the quality of the work. Over the course of 3 days, Mike and Ray repaired all the areas (and even some extra areas that were not part of the project). They fortified all the posts, added rebar and basically went above and beyond to make the staircase way more strong and secure than it was. Aesthetically I knew I wouldn't be perfect because it's impossible to match the rest of the staircase and I was totally fine with that. I highly recommend Mike's company - he was prompt, honest and reliable. Thanks Mike!

Mike set me up with his 5 star finishing team (Luis and company) for my slab and footing on a DYI garage conversion remodel. I did all the prep myself (forms, rebar, vapor barrier) and I was worried that it would be difficult to find a good team to run everything on the day of the pour. Mike was super helpful and talked to me on the phone for about 20 minutes to help me decide on which type of sand to use over the vapor barrier. Luis did a great job organizing the pump, concrete and team. They showed up plenty early and stayed until everything was cleaned up (ie. did not leave a mess for me to deal with). Luis has great attention to detail and made sure my driveway and walkway were protected from the pump hose. The slab looks great and most importantly is flat.

I want to share with you my experience with Mike Klein's Concrete. Mike and his crew did the job just how I pictured it. Good communication, professional, and he executed the plan perfectly. On top of that Mike and his crew are very nice guys to work with and just overall very honest, no oversell. I would not hesitate to recommend these guys. Mike came back to make sure he would have one of his coworker touch up or cosmetic fix on our front door entrance. He fixed it perfectly.

They also installed footing drain (French drain) on the back retaining wall, backfilled with the usual gravel, crushed stone and covered the outside of the walls with installed paneled stone veneer. They also did the initial former structure demolition, debris hauling and the requested earth moving and other necessary small retaining walls reassembly. It sounds like an easy simple job but, believe me, it got complicated quite soon. Along the construction way, I was able to interact with the crew and bounce ideas and corrections which were followed to my customer satisfaction, resulting in more than a very acceptable final product. When the inevitable, beyond his control, the one odd crew helper misbehavior occurred on the job, this contractor immediately corrected it, got on top of the problem and smoothly and quickly we had no more of an issue here. He also facilitated for me the customer to bring my own tile / stone wall-caps products and installer guys, which ended doing a beautiful job we're very proud of. Pricing fair, not inexpensive. Job done acceptable, with your own (the customer) continuous supervision and being able to stop working crew's irreparable mistakes before they happened, however, the final product came out well built and functional as we imagined and expected, we are grateful for that. Thanks again to Shafiaq and SK Concrete for accepting working on our small home project and for including us in their busy commercial and industrial schedule.

They were great to work with and respected our house. What I especially appreciated was the care they took to ensure nothing around the house was damaged. This was a pleasant experience and I would recommend SK Concrete to anyone for their big or small project.

While on site, Adam asked for "200-300$" outside of the scope of the signed contract for the same work that would have been done with or without the additional request. Through the phone exchanges and emails regarding these issues Adam was arrogant and dismissive, yet also took blame for the stairs and will not resolve the issue. Adam's team poured our concrete before a heavy rain, but failed to redirect a gutter (as it had originally been before construction) from pouring directly onto the concrete causing a water stain from the pooling water on the fresh concrete. Again, when confronted with this issue and asking for a resolution Adam denied blame and said "wait a year".
