I'm sure anyone can do a great work on a flat square pad but we needed to find someone who could do great work replacing our sloped, curved driveway on a canyonside. Parker's photos here on Yelp had our confidence he was the right one. We got a few other bids but no one else took as much time on site to discuss the job, accurately measure, and review design elements that surely impact price (color, finish, add-ons etc). As a result, Parker's bid was well written and detailed, and there were no surprise change orders to drive up the price (except for a few small things we added on along the way). The finished design was thoughtful, incorporated proper drainage and maintained the historic aesthetic of the house. The work had been done without an architectural approval from the association. The cement slab was only 12 X 10. Every Contractor I called did not want to do the work. Well, I cannt say enough about my experience with Dave Parker's concrete. And,its all good. We live in the Bay Area but our house is in San Diego, the house was built in the late 70's and the drive way had become severely cracked and buckled due to a large pine that has grown up over the past 30 or so years. Not only was it unsightly, the concrete had raised up so high that the garage door did not close and we started to get rodents and other critters in the house Not having any contacts in the area, we resorted to reading Yelp reviews on San Diego Contractors. I called a number including Dave Parkers. One review struck a cord with me. This was the one below , a story about how Dave discovered gold on some ones property in SanDiego. Now, that's just weird. Since the rest of his 20 or so reviews were pretty good I just had to talk with Dave and get this story first hand. Since we live in the Bay Area, we had to communicate with Dave by email and phone. We wanted to schedule the work for a time when we were visiting San Diego. Our next visit was in May, it was now February, of 2018, so our appointment was pretty far in advance. Im sure Dave had his doubts about us, with such a long advance in time but he stuck with us and over the next few months he would occasionally email and call to verify we were still on track for our trip in May. Well, it is now May, Dave came and took out the old drive way, and just finished pouring our new one. Not only did he remove the old concrete, he also took out a large number of tree roots from the driveway and he also installed an underground pipe to allow me to install a sprinkler line to the other side of the driveway . I am no concrete person, so I cannt make comment about the engineering of the work, but it looks very nice and solid at this point, actually very beautiful. If it lasts another 30 years, I will be happy, from Heaven. Well, we paid Dave, for his work and as we were sitting ending our interaction, I asked Dave about the Gold story. Wow!. What an interesting story, I told Dave he had to have someone put it into a book or article some where, it would make a most interesting story, and one with a bit of a historical significance about the Vietnam war and those horrible times of the late 70'S. Dave's work seems to be first rate, and he is a really nice person to work with and, to say the least, a most interesting personality. His pricing was good , being fairly close with other bids that I have gotten. But the time we spent with him was most entertaining and assuring. I would recommend Dave and his crew. My garage door closes better, but still not perfect, but its not Dave's fault, it's the floor of the Garage is not level with big roots under the foundation for 20+ years. read more

I wanted to replace our flagstone walkway with a concrete sidewalk. The project involved removing the flagstone and creating the foundation before the concrete could be put down. I also wanted to improve the appearance of the concrete slab that serves as the front porch. Parker Concrete has great reviews and they were the first contractor we contacted. They provided the middle bid and the work they proposed was the best fit for our immediate needs. The project went better than I could have imagined. There was some back-and-forth discussion about the final scope of the project, mostly due to my ignorance, and Dave Parker was very responsive and patient in leading me through that. After years of driving over a driveway that looked like it took some direct hits from 500 lb bombs we decided to replace it. As my brother-in-law in a concrete contractor in the San Francisco Bay Area, I turned to him for advice. We called 4 contractors and 3 showed up to bid. By far Dave Parker was the most attentive to the issues our driveway replacement presented. Dave was the only one who recommended that we consult an arborist concerning the tree adjacent to the driveway which was the cause of most of the damage; we removed the tree. He was the only one to comment on an area adjacent to the driveway that he would also need to address and how the curb cuts and gutter should be dealt with. When rain delayed the start of the job Dave kept us informed. When demolition of the existing driveway revealed a problem, a wall of a lower bedroom was right below a portion of the driveway and part of the waterproof material protecting the bedroom had rotted, Dave proposed and executed a solution which will keep the room dry in future rains. Just as important for our wallet, he did so at what we considered a fair price. My brother-in-law told me to not go with the cheapest bid, but to go with the contractor we thought would do the best job, and that was Dave. He was within a few dollars of the next lowest bid but we feel that we more than got our money's worth. We love our new driveway and so do our neighbors. This was the best sentence I came up with to describe Parker Concrete since it's hard to accurately describe them in a couple words or a sentence. My terraced retaining wall recently failed and the top wall fell down. Our family decided that we should also remodel the backyard when we construct a new wall. I contacted several companies for bids. Dave from Parker Concrete came by and surveyed the work, drew a design for the patio, and gave me some options for the work. The proposed wall is a 3 feet 6 inches engineered one, Country Manor by Keystone, which uses the Geogrid system. Dave had strongly advocated for a traditional wall using split face blocks, cement footing, and rebar since it is a tried and true system. However, we like the looks of the Country Manor wall much more. We decided to go with pavers for the ground. Stepping stones were proposed for the walk way from the back yard to the front yard. Dave Parker and a crew of 5 guys came by and started working on our place in November 2012. The back yard had some personal items that needed to be moved. Dave took initiative and helped me move all the items. The crew started demolishing the wall and yard. They excavated the work area, moved loads of dirt from the slope, and prepared the back yard for wall and paver construction. The crew worked hard daily and Dave came by everyday to work or to check on the progress and make adjustments as necessary. Changes are common with every construction job but Dave was easily accessible in case we had questions or needed anything. Dave was clearly on top of things. Things were going smoothly as planned. We were happy with the work so far but Dave wanted to spoil us. He tossed in freebies left and right so the wall and yard can look nicer. These items were expensive and we never bargained for it initially so Dave had no obligation to give us these freebies and lose profit. We have worked with many contractors and companies in the past and no one ever gave us any or as much free materials/work as Dave did. Things only got better from there. One morning Dave knocked on our door and told us, in a serious tone, that he needed to talk to us in private. We have never seen Dave so serious before so we were feeling kind of anxious and nervous. Dave bought in two of his crew members and he explained that something happened on the job which he has never experienced before. Dave continued to explain that the guys found something. I had no idea what he found so I just made a joke to Dave that he found gold. Well, joke is on me sort of since the crew really did strike gold. We were totally shocked when Dave showed us the gold he found in our back yard. Dave explained to us how the crew found gold and where they found it. We could only nod our head since we were speechless. It took awhile to let everything settle in. A couple days passed and we were still in awe and disbelief at what had happened and how people can be so honest. The job was completed in the time frame that Dave estimated. We did a final walk through and everything looked fantastic. The installed drains functioned as expected. The Country Manor Wall looked sturdy and the pavers were gorgeous. The stepping stones topped off the project nicely. Dave's crew made a staggered walkway with rectangular steps that were composed of patterned pavers. The employees accidentally destroyed a concrete stoop outside of our sliding glass door but they gave us an upgraded paver stoop when they rebuilt it so we came out on top once again. The job finished up with a Phil's BBQ lunch. We thanked the crew for everything. . It was a good feeling to do something for the guys to thank them for the extra work that they put into the job. This project really didn't feel like a business transaction where you just paid for someone's work and then went your own ways. It felt more like having a trustworthy friend come over to help you with a project. In short, I wholeheartedly recommend Parker Concrete for all masonry work, retaining walls, and patios.
