That said, the job would have gone quicker if they had worked more than just a few hours each day. My problem was with the company itself. I hired them because of the generally good posted reviews. Most of the reviews mentioned that Mr. Klein himself was involved with doing and/or supervising the work being done. Not so in my case. The initial response from Yelp after I requested a quote I assume was from Mr. Klein. I was told he was unable to come out for the quote but he was sending someone named Luis, who did come out and work up a quote. He and Abel were the ones that actually did the work, with a third person at my house for just a couple of hours one day. At first Luis told me that Mr. Klein would come around a couple of times to check on things during the one week that they were here. Toward the end of the job I specifically asked about Mr. Klein since I had neither seen nor communicated with him after my quote request. When I asked Luis if my job had been subcontracted to him, he said that it had, and that Mr. Klein would in fact not be coming to our house at all. The fact is that I used this company based upon reviews of the work done for others in which Mr. Klein was usually directly involved. This lack of transparency is not OK. If Mr. Klein was not going to be involved in at least occasional on site supervision of the work, I should have been told that this job would be subcontracted out before I agreed to hire this company. Even if Luis and Abel work for this company on a regular basis, I feel that I should have been told up front that Mr. Klein was not going to be involved. It's just a business transparency thing from my perspective.

I can honestly say this was the best experience I've ever had with a home improvement contractor. From start to finish, Mike Stratton and his team were outstanding. Mike is friendly, responsive, knowledgeable, and clearly takes pride in his work. He was flexible throughout the project as I made a few design changes along the way, and he was always willing to discuss options and offer thoughtful recommendations. What really impressed me was that many of Mike's best ideas didn't increase the cost of the project. He suggested installing a sleeve under the new driveway so I could easily run irrigation or electrical lines to the other side in the future, something I hadn't even thought about before he mentioned it and will almost certainly make use of. He also recommended embedding a drainage pipe beneath one area of the concrete so that, if drainage ever became an issue, it would already be in place and could easily be tied into. He also recommended removing the old porch step to create a seamless, modern transition to the front entry. As we discussed different layout ideas, including curves versus straight runs, he made it clear that the cost would be the same regardless of which design I chose, allowing me to focus on what looked best rather than what cost more. The workmanship was exceptional. The crew was professional, friendly, and obviously very experienced. You could tell these are craftsmen who have been doing this for a long time. They worked efficiently, never seemed rushed, and paid attention to the details. Mike stopped by every day, often multiple times, to check on progress, answer questions, and make sure everything met his standards. The project stayed on schedule from beginning to end, with each phase flowing smoothly into the next. They also went above and beyond at the finish by repairing stucco that had been disturbed during construction, rehanging my gate, and even patching some older stucco adjacent to the project that wasn't really part of the job. The finished driveway and walkways look fantastic and have completely transformed the curb appeal of our home. Just as importantly, the work looks incredibly solid. Even the walkways were built with the same attention to durability as the driveway. Nothing about the project felt like corners were being cut. The price was also very fair. In fact, another contractor I'm working with on a separate project, someone who frequently works alongside concrete companies, told me that the price I paid was very reasonable for the scope of work being performed. I recommend Mendenhall Concrete without hesitation. When I'm ready to tackle the backyard, they'll be my first call.

The main issue was that we would agree on a scope of work and price, but after the job started, he would later complain about the price or try to change the terms. On one project, he initially offered a discount if I paid cash, but about a week later said he could no longer honor that arrangement. I agreed to pay the full amount because he is also my neighbor across the street and I wanted to keep things friendly. I also asked him to repair damaged stucco under my patio doors, and he agreed to include that work. While I was traveling, he sent me a bill for the full amount, and I paid assuming the agreed work had been completed. When I returned, I found that the stucco repair had not been done. I asked him again to fix it. He sent a long message complaining about the price and scope of the work, apologized, and said he would fix it -- but he never did. After dealing with repeated complaints, uncertainty around agreed pricing, and unfinished promised work, I gave up. I would not hire him again. In my opinion, there was too much inconsistency and stress for work that should have been handled clearly and professionally.

Supreme Concrete recently completed an outstanding driveway project at my home. This was much more…read moreinvolved than simply replacing my 43-year-old cracked driveway. They widened my two-car driveway by approximately 25 inches on the garden side and 38 inches on the lawn side. This required removing and relocating irrigation lines and sprinkler heads, which was no small task. On the garden side, they also constructed a curb because the remaining garden area is higher than the driveway. The original driveway was only four inches thick and had no reinforcing steel. Supreme poured the new driveway approximately five to five-and-a-half inches thick and installed a rebar grid spaced about every 18 inches. They also installed a proper sewer cleanout cover over the existing cleanout pipe. This was the second project I hired Supreme Concrete to complete. The first was replacing three concrete sidewalk panels. They did such an excellent job on that smaller project that I had no hesitation hiring them for the much larger driveway project. What makes this company so special is the owner, Jose, along with his crew and the excellent equipment he provides for them. Jose prepares his bids and directs his crew with the expectation that the work will be completed above code and as close to perfection as possible. During the two-day driveway project, Jose repeatedly asked whether I was satisfied with the work and whether there was anything else that needed attention. His concern continued even after the main job was finished. I mentioned that one sprinkler head was about an inch too high and that the outlet for a yard drainpipe could have been positioned better. Jose sent a crew member back on a third day to correct both items. The worker also removed a large pile of dirt that was not Supreme Concrete's responsibility. The crew was exceptional. I counted eight workers, and because I am retired, I was able to sit in my garage and watch them work for several hours. Their movements appeared almost choreographed. Everyone knew exactly what needed to be done, and they worked together efficiently and professionally. Each crew member appeared to take great pride in doing the job correctly. It was genuinely enjoyable and impressive to watch them work. Their teamwork is clearly a reflection of the close-knit group Jose has developed and supervises. I cannot adequately describe how pleased I was with every member of the crew. Jose has also equipped his employees with excellent machinery and tools, including trucks, backhoes, and seemingly every other piece of equipment needed to complete the work efficiently and properly. If you have a concrete project and need a dependable contractor, I do not believe you can do better than Jose and Supreme Concrete. I recommend them without hesitation.

Don, the owner, was a very nice and friendly guy. No pressure at all. He came out and gave us an assessment and reasonable options for repair. His company had reasonable pricing and lots of great options. He does the work himself on site with his staff which is awesome. They were very thorough in their exceptional craftsmanship. They power washed the driveway and then proceeded to grind off the old paint. Afterwards the vacuumed the dust on day 1. Then they primed the concrete, painted it on day 2/3 and sealed it on day 4. The high quality textured paint helped prevent slipping when walking it wet. It's built to last decades. Don gave me daily updates and he was very reliable. Great communication! It was a seamless and successful project. It exceeded our expectations. I highly recommend this company to paint or repair your driveways or any concrete surfaces.
