Mike's Bagels Storefront

When I lived in Washington Heights, was great to have not just a fresh hot bagel place, but a fresh hot great bagel place like Mike's Bagels only a 5 minute walk away. With classic, "old school," savory varieties (other than the newer Cinnamon Raisin and Whole Wheat varieties) at the right density and texture, Mike's also has them priced right. And the staff always prepares your order quickly. Additionally, I always welcomed getting there a reasonably priced Whitefish Salad Bagel, something that has always been comfort food for me since my childhood! Also their toasted Egg Bagel with Butter! Note - Without seating, everything is "to go." Now when visiting the neighborhood, I return to Mike's to grab a dozen or half dozen bagels to bring back. Recommend you check it out!

Of course I had to get a NY bagel while in NY! I ordered a toasted everything bagel with lox cream cheese. I can't say it was anything different than a bagel I'll get in my hometown, but it was very good!

It was my first time here today. When you walk in the smell of fresh bagels take over. A friend and I tried to order BEC ( Bacon egg and cheese) They had no eggs! I then proceeded to order sesame bagel with scallion cream cheese. I did not get it toasted but maybe I should have. The bagel to me was a bit on the hard side and the scallion cream cheese had a bit of a funky taste to it. I was very hungry so I ate the whole thing even though it was a bit hard. There is no where to sit and eat your bagel in the store. There is a little park area where we ended up sitting to eat our food. It was a bit hectic in there today. I am very rarely in this area so not sure I will be coming back here anytime soon.

I wasn't a fan. Maybe my experience was a one off but I got there early in the morning and the bagels seemed a bit monotone; I got a bagel w butter. Not much fluffiness or bite to the bagel even though it was warm. Staff was really kind and kept the line moving. I would not come back but maybe this was a one time thing and there bagels are better than what I experienced.

Mikes rates a 4. The takeaway, no place to sit and enjoy. This is basically a get it to go. Staff was fast and efficient but smile less. Perhaps the busyness of Saturday morning's at 8 am. Bagel was definitely fresh with a good amount of cream cheese on my everything bagel. The bagel itself was the right amount of chewy and crispy making for enjoyable eating. Definitely a top 10 in my quest for the Holy Grail of the best bagel in NYC. If I'm in the area, I would enjoy a Mike's bagel again.

Great prices, and really friendly staff! Bagel is really tasty, but nothing out of the ordinary. There are no places to sit, so plan to get a coffee at Dunkin if you want to sit. Overall, staff was super nice and efficient!

I have no idea, but their bagels are pretty darn delicious and well worth 5 stars for Washington Heights.

It's very colorful. It's also very clean and tidy. My order didn't take long. And my cashier was the one handing out the orders and he had a smile on his face. I got us whole wheat everything bagel with a fried egg, chipotle Gouda, and turkey sausage with chipotle mayo with a hash brown on the side. And when I opened the bagel open I could see the cheese from both ends of the bagel melting apart, I was in heaven. It tasted so good. And the best part was that my bagel didn't fall apart (like some places). Everything was so delicious. I was left very happy and very pleased with this place. I will be back.

The ambiance was welcoming and festive and seeing fellow Knicks fans enjoying bagels and the many foods offered here, made this spot just right. We ordered 2 Knicks themed bagels with cream cheese and 2 plain Knicks themed bagels to go. The bagel with cream cheese was so soft and delicious. Literally melted in your mouth. Perfect texture, something NYC can proudly own about our bagels, and the cream cheese was just right! I thoroughly enjoyed it. The next day I had one of the plain bagels and it was just as fresh as the first day. Perfect texture and even more fulfilling the next day. Let's just say that the next time I'm home, I want to try more of their incredible bagels!

FOOD: We ordered a bag of 3 bagels-- everything, poppy seed & salt. The bagels were cute, medium sized and served warm/hot. We chose the scallion cream cheese which came in a lil container. Apparently the bagels are not made in the traditional manner, but they were still delicious with great texture and taste. We also ordered the tea (ok) and strawberry lemonade (yum). We enjoyed our bagels on the little countertop area outside. OVERALL: Definitely recommend! A different bagel experience than some other places (as in, those places where you are served bagels topped with cream cheese and other things) but we enjoyed the simplicity of the bagels and controlling the amount of cream cheese.

Anyways, the girls had bookmarked another bagel establishment but the line was hella long like they were giving away Knicks gear for free. Ironically another "bagel shop" search on Yelp showed PopUp Bagels was like three doors down lol. No line! That in itself was making me question but there is a PopUp in San Diego that my daughter swears by. PopUp advertised itself as "Not Famous, but known." Whether or not this bagel is better than the one store three doors up is something I cannot attest to. However I can say THIS WAS A DANG GOOD BAGEL! And it was freshly made! How do I know? It literally burned my fingers when I ripped it open! The pain was worth it. Outside, a slightly crisp texture generously coated with "Everything". Inside was a dense and chewy dough that was pliable but able to withstand the dipping and shmearing of cream cheese (which was smooth). Best I have ever had for sure but then again my most common bagel experience is the place named after a scientist where tons of bagels are sitting in bins for who knows how long. So why wasn't this a 5-star experience? One, I only ate one thing. Two, sevice and setting are "just there". Considering it wasn't busy I would expect a bit more of a welcome. To eat you're bagel you can full on just leave, sit at the three stools inside where it is super hot (bc hey they actually cook), or three stand outside. There is a little, I'll say "patio", where you can stand, eat, and true story, watch two people argue about who gets to sort through the recyclables from the neighborhood eateries. Snack and a show???? I just stood near the door and enjoyed my bagel.
