I'm a repeat customer, so this is my second review of Modern Quality Flooring. Danny met me at our new condo in Oak Park right after our closing, and gave us several great options for our new bedroom floors. He took extra effort to give me 4 different estimates for each of the options. While he was measuring the rooms, he also pointed out an electrical outlet issue that I hadn't seen! His team did a fantastic job throughout! They neatly and efficiently removed all the old nasty carpeting, installed the soundproofing layer, the engineered oak flooring, and all the baseboards and thresholds. They were so patient and considerate while I had 2 electricians working on the same day (not exactly ideal, but couldn't be avoided). The most impressive thing to me was their attention to detail and quality work. Even the baseboards were neatly cut to fit around the old radiator covers perfectly. They also do kitchens and other jobs, and I plan to call Danny again for future work. read more

My fiancé and I tried to refinish our floors ourselves, but after 2 days we quickly realized we needed a professional. We reached out to 4 different companies. Where do I begin with how amazing, professional, and perfectionist modern quality flooring is. If you are getting quotes from other people do not bother. No one is as meticulous and talented as Danny. We used Danny and his team to redo the floors (pine, red oak, and parquet wood floors) of our entire house (2400 sq ft). We are first time homebuyers who have no clue about anything. Danny not only redid our floors to perfection but fixed a random door inside, fixed our stairs, redid the crown molding and gave us tips on our home throughout the process. Because we loved him so much we asked him his advice on painting. Amazingly enough - Him and his guys ended up replastering and repainting every inch of our house. He is fair priced, sticks to the timeline (we had to be done by a certain date and he and his crew worked tirelessly to finish the job). He is so incredibly talented with old homes and my floors look like they were just cut from old growth trees and put in!!! And both floors and painting are DUSTLESS! He explains everything and took such care of the house (which is very old and has a million problems by the way). One day i got a message from our water bill that said there might be a leak - danny went to our house and turned our water off and checked everything for us he then recommended a plumber who ended up saving us as well. Anyone danny uses is good in my eyes. So, long story short: in this day and time, I trust very few contractors (especially because we are new home owners and our zip code in a "nice" area). Danny not only gained my trust as a contractor but went above and beyond to help us understand our home, fix things, and created literal perfection with floors and painting. I've truly never had a better service experience. Danny treated me and my husband like family and he treated the work on our house as if it was his own. He came out for measurements and a quote on Monday for refinishing and restaining our hardwood floors, and his crew was able to start work on Thursday (even earlier than initially anticipated). They completed the job in less than a week! Danny is a true professional, he pays attention to details like changing out floor vents to match the new floor and feel more modern as well as ensuring the baseboards are flush against the floor. He offered and showed us many different stains and finishes and encouraged us to take our time with making the color choices. His crew worked early mornings to late afternoon and left the house spotless, you would never say the entire floor of the house was sanded down. The finished floor looks incredible, Danny and his crew fixed some boards and imperfections and truly made it look incredible. They even took the time to move the kitchen appliances to ensure they refinished the floors under them in case we exchanged appliances in the future. Danny is prompt in his communication, he's knowledgeable about the work and the products, and his prices are very fair and much lower than other competitors that have quoted us. He also took the time to educate us on cleaning products and floor care to keep the floors in great shape over the years. We bought a condo which requires some hardwood floor refinishing work. I literally spent 10+ hours researching online trying to find a good pro in our area. Danny came in very responsive to my inquiries and his pricing was very competitive. He explained the whole process to us in detail and finished the work nice and quick, earlier than planned so that we could move in without a delay. The floor looks like brand new after the work! At the end, he walked me through the whole unit, explained all the things I should pay attention to. He even went into details of how to maintain, clean the hardwood floor. What's even better, recently, a heavy metal accidentally fell onto our floor and cause a deep dent. We hired them to refinish two bedroom floors and through the process, Danny was helpful, informative and a clear expert. When he arrived for the estimate, he gave me helpful pointers on my floors in general (like using felt pads), which was appreciated. His estimate was not the lowest I received but it was fair and I was happy to pay more for his experience and dustless approach and technology to refinishing. Afterwards, they were able to squeeze me in over the weekend. His team was prompt, careful, and attentive to detail -- using drop cloths and even fixing minor imperfections in other floors. My experience has been poor, Danny called me over a week ago and at that time he stated he would call me back so we could set up an appointment for estimate and explanation of work project. Not impressed. l hired Modern Quality Flooring to replace some broken boards in a 3x5 section of flooring. 1) A fee is charged if using a credit card and I was urged to pay cash via Zelle (no recourse for incorrect work), 2) work that should have been obviously included (replacing broken sleepers) was omitted from initial proposal - there would have been an extra charge if I did not understand the floor structure below and insist on that being added before signing off on contract. 3) There is now a noticeable dip in the repaired area where there wasn't one before - perhaps from being sanded too much. The whole point of the floor repair was to make a safe, even surface for people to walk on. The owner was present and highly knowledgeable during diagnosis of structural issues below the floorboards and communicated/instructed employee on how to do the job but it appears the worker did not do as instructed. No follow-up visit was done by owner to see how it looked before the finish applied - just a phone call to tell me they were going to do the finishing and my final payment due - they even tried to get out of doing the agreed on two coats. Perhaps other individuals have had a better experience with the quality of MQF's work but I am very disappointed with the results - not as expected. I did not call them back because I did not want to deal with them again to complain, discuss or correct the mistake. Wasted money - should have called someone else. read more

I am so happy we found Danny and his team at Modern Quality Flooring. We struggled for months working with Home Depot on a flooring and kitchen renovation project, and it never got off the ground. I started feeling hopeless. Then, I met Danny from Modern Quality Flooring! He was on-time for the estimate home visit, and within just a few days, provided the workup and how much it would cost. We live in a 100-year-old apartment and previous owners had put two layers of ugly tile on top of hardwood flooring. We asked Danny and his crew to remove all of the additional layers so we can just get down to the bare hardwood and start refinishing it. On the day of the job, the Modern Quality Flooring crew arrived on-time, and they were incredibly respectful, hardworking and efficient. I have hired Danny and Modern Quality Flooring to refinish floors almost 7 times now and could not ask for a better experience. Here are the things I look for in a company that Danny and MQF deliver in excess: 1 - Personal - someone who will actually talk to me about my options. I have large dogs in my home and Danny took the time to not only discuss different finishes but what could be done to preserve the floors. 2 - Punctual - if they say they are going to start at a date and time - they are there spot on time. In fact I had a time sensitive project one time and Danny actually sent extra guys to get it done sooner. 3 - Professional - don't think that these are the kind of guys that are going to trash your house and leave. They pick up their mess, clean up after their work, and make sure that things are locked up when they leave. As VP of a large real estate company I hear horror stories from many clients and agents about "Discount" flooring people who do this on the side. This was not your average "freshen up your floor"--these were original floors in a 100 year old building that I had already spent months repairing cracked and missing sections. I am really stunned at how incredible they look, far better than I envisioned. They look high quality and the price was fair. Danny and his team showed up on time for the estimate and each day of work and he also is easy to reach via phone. They clean up after their work very well as well--sanding can be a dusty job but I felt like my unit was very clean. When I first reached out to Danny through a referral from our realtor, he scheduled a consultation quickly and was able to provide a quote the next day. We also had a damaged side board in the kitchen and Danny said that if we supplied a baseboard, he would install it at no additional cost. Danny and his team showed up right on time and when promised, and everything was completed in the timeframe he specified in the quote. We were actually going out of the country the day the job started, so when he was finished Danny took pictures of everything and emailed them to us so we could see how everything turned out. We have an older home that needs a lot of work and updating, like most we don't have an endless supply of money and therefore need to plan, budget and update in stages. Danny has been great! He has been consultative along the way to ensure that the overall look I want is achieved and helps us plan for the future. This last job he quoted well over a year a go, gave us a cost breakdown if we did a room at a time, all at once and knowing we were on a budget offered a suggestion to help us get "best bang for our buck". This round we had a custom outlet placed in the floor of my office, wood floor vent installed, curved stairway and a jagged stone wall that they needed to etch around and it came out beautifully (as expected). We hired Danny and MQF to refinish the floor in our TV room. The room is separate from our other hardwood floors and we thought we would do it as a 'test' before we bite the bullet with the rest of the house. The floor came out great. We followed Danny's recommendations to simply sand and refinish as opposed to stain, as the floor has an inlaid design that would have been hidden with stain. And when these guys say dust-free, they mean dust-free. They showed up on time, finished the job on schedule and fully disclosed all conditions and details. Danny and company are honest, professional, efficient and responsive. I highlighted honesty, because they do only what is needed. I first found that out four years when we bought a house with a ruined carpet in the master bedroom. We pulled up the corners and saw hardwood. Danny's crew came out and removed the carpet. He said the floor didn't need to be sanded. They patched the nail holes from the carpet nail strips, buffed and refinished it along with the hall in order for everything to match seamlessly. We recently pulled up carpet on two more rooms. The first floor was like the one fours years ago and they did the same, but the second was completely unfinished and with a gap in the wood. I do have to say that Dan was the most informative of a very qualified group. His pricing was excellent and he completed the job on time in spite of the the massive snow storm we had last weekend. The quality of work is second to none. The floors look as new as they did 14 years ago. The wood is high quality and he maintained the excellence of the product.
