I am very pleased with the work that Alexandru did in my condo! One of my closets only had a subfloor (the hardwood stopped at the door and went down to the plywood based that is underneath the rest of the floors) and Alexandru was able to match the existing floors and install a beautiful floor in the closet. (It's a shame it's a closet.) Marius turned the job around very quickly (called him Dec. 31, he stopped by the same day, and installed that Thursday) while I was staying out of town. My husband and I bought a 100-year-old house over the summer. We didn't have a ton of money to invest in fix-ups, but knew that ripping out carpeting and refinishing the original hardwood floors underneath was a big priority... and we had to get that job done in the 2 weeks between when we closed on the house and when our lease was up. My experience with this company was overwhelmingly positive. Alex came out right away to assess my floors and give me an estimate. I had installed new flooring in over half the house, and I wanted a professional to sand and finish them. While he was there, he looked at the bedrooms, which were in terrible shape and which I had planned to cover with carpet. They had pet stains, glue, underlayment, etc. he convinced me to try to save them and gave me a reasonable price. He sanded a spot in each room to let us look at how they would turn out so we could make a final decision. He also showed us a few stains to hide the pet stains in the worst bedroom. Saving the bedroom floors turned out to be a great decision and it cost less than carpet. The crew was able to squeeze me into their schedule, and even started a day earlier than they initially thought. They did the job quickly, they guys were courteous, and the floors look awesome. Strangest thing just happened... I called Alex based on his yelp reviews. We spoke for approx 3 mins. He asked my address, number of rooms, stain color (we said natural) and then he gave us a quote of $2800 per floor (it was a 2 flat). My mouth fell open and my ears popped in disbelief. Not just about the estimate but how he came about that number. He didn't come by to see the condition of the floors, measure sq ft, etc. NOTHING. This is a non traditional 2 flat that actually looks like a very very large square single family home. It is approx 1000 sq feet each floor. We received a quote for $2000 (total for BOTH floors) and just wanted to shop around. One floor requires only buffing because it was covered by carpet for many many years and prior homeowner was an older lady. Top floor will require sanding and natural stain. None of that made a difference because he never came by, nor asked. I need the floors refinished within the next 4 days so he just missed out on some quick cash in hand. I hired Alexandru Hardwood Flooring to fix up the poor job another company did on my hardwood floors. I recently purchased a house and made the mistake of letting a contractor get me cheap flooring services. Whatever they used for the varnish was terrible. It scratched so easily. I looked on Yelp and called Alexandru about applying another coat of varnish. Marius came by that very night to look at my floors and give me a quote. The price was very reasonable. He showed up promptly on time the day of the work and did an excellent job. My floors look wonderful and don't scratch nearly as easily. Great people to work with. Marius had me text him a few of photos of the 15 or so floorboards I needed replacing, and he was able to give me a quote over the phone. He came by the next morning to take a look, and got me set up for the following week, working around my family's availability. He does take a little money up front, and has your sign a contract agreeing to the terms of the work. He told me they would do their best to replace my broken boards with wood that would match the unusual flooring I have (very old ash wood), and he told me up front it would not be a perfect match color wise. He also said that one small area could not be repaired without great difficulty because it was not a broken floorboard, but an exposed piece of old 2x4 where an old wall used to be. So we agreed to leave it, and just polyurethane over it; it would be ugly, but at least it would be smooth. I appreciated that honesty and I knew what to expect when the job was done. When Marius' guy was working he told me essentially that Marius was wrong about how hard that would be to repair that area, and he wouldn't feel good about leaving it knowing that he could fix it. So even though he was told to ignore that part of the floor, he fixed it and it looks great. The whole floor was repaired, sanded and refinished in one day. It ended up looking really good, and more importantly, the repairs feel very solid. Also, Marius always called me back when he said he would, he showed up on time when I expected him, and he got the job done on time. I also appreciate that he did not try to upsell me on installing a new floor rather than repairing my old broken boards. I would not hesitate to hire them again. read more

We had our wood floors refinished and stained by Alexandru Hardwood flooring. Alex came out very quickly and gave us an estimate. Pricing was pretty affordable for the job that needed to be done. We had our living room, dining room, hallway and three bedrooms all refinished and stained for about 3k. Which is the lowest price I found around the city. Alex was great, very positive and scheduled us right away, which we needed. The entire project took about a week total. We had only a few slight issues : we have radiators with wood covers. The team that worked in our house I noticed put one of their heavy tools on top of the cover and scraped up our radiator cover pretty bad. We'll have to spend the time to sand it down and refinish it. The other issue we had is that in some of the rooms the trim is white. They left the wood stain all over our trim near the floors. I tried to clean it off but couldn't. Had to spend more money to paint over it. Not happy that we had to put more work and money into cleaning up the after mess. I had several spots on my floors that needed repair. Water stains, cracked boards, you name it. I called two different flooring repairmen and Alexandru had a much better price, so I decided to give them a try. They started the next morning after my initial estimate visit. They warned me that since they were replacing some boards, those boards might appear a little lighter color. We recently had the first floor floors of our 80 year old house refinished -- living room, sun room, dinning room, kitchen, hall, and study. We had the work done while we were out of town on vacation. I was a little nervous about not being around to see what was happening, but it was so much more convenient since we would have had to move out anyway. The work was done on schedule and Alex sent photo's of the job to my smart phone, so I could see all phases of the work as it was done. We came home to truly beautiful floors. Alex was very careful with the house keys and made sure that I told him where to leave them at the conclusion of the job. When I contacted Alexandru initially I had not measured the floors. I described the house to him and he told me the approximate size and quoted a price for the job. When I said I was seriously interested he came to the house -- in the western suburbs -- and measured the job. (I had also measured myself in the meantime.) The actual size was very close to the estimate and the cost did not change. We walked the house and he showed me ares that might be problems. The floors were last done over 20 years ago and there were some serious warn spots that might show up under the new finish after sanding. We were not pressured to replace flooring, though they would be happy to so if needed. We have a dog and, when I asked, recommended a different finish for the top coat that was tougher, though he warned us that nothing would stand up to a large dog. The final result exceeded expectations. We have old hot water radiators and the finishing under and around them is perfect. The possible problem area turned out as good as the rest of the floor. One month in and the dog has not made any scratches. We had left a heavy kitchen stove in place and the sanding was done so close that it impossible to tell that the appliance had not been moved out for the work. A great job and a fair price. I just had my kitchen floor redone and it looks like new. When I called to have them come out and give me a quote, they called me back promptly and came out the next day. They were able to fit me into their schedule within a couple of days, giving me time to clear everything out. All the black marks and stains are now gone and I couldn't be happier. He also told me that no one moves furniture, which is inaccurate, as I subsequently obtained two quotes for refinishing by companies that move furniture. They are not cheap, but they will do it.
