I was refered by a good friend to this mobile mechanic, and all though he was nearly 3 hours late, he did a great job replacing my door handle, which required removal of the panel and disassembly, which even the dealership said couldn't be done if I expected to just change the broken handle I had no choice but to replace the entire thing since mercedes benz made them in this way, I found the handle on amazon on Wednesday it arrived and Friday mike showed up and explained what he would need to do and did it in about an hour, saved me about 800.00, and it works perfectly now. And I agree he is hard to reach but text messaging wasn't much of a wait for me...mike also explained that he won't answer his phone when he is doing a job , due to he's being paid for my time not another's, I really respect that in him. If you're ever hoping to save some money by using a mobile auto repair service instead of going to a brick and mortar repair shop, think again - and beware of Michael Berry, dba as Mikes Mobile Auto Service. I have a 2002 Subaru and needed 2 major repairs: replacement of a leaking power steering pump, which involved replacing the rack and pinion assembly, and fixing an oil leak behind the timing belt cover. I'd been quoted $1500 by a repair shop I've used before.The day before the service, Mike was highly recommended to me by someone I trust. I called him to see what he'd charge for the work. He said IF the car needed everything I mentioned, it would cost about $1500. However, he wanted to see the car because he thought I might not need everything I'd mentioned. So he came to my house, was here for 2 hours, said he was sure the oil leak was not coming from behind the timing belt cover but from the crank case seal (he was wrong - it turned out the leak WAS behind the timing belt cover) and he said he could do the work for $550 less. I said OK. He came the next day, was here for 14 hours - and wasn't finished. When he left that night the car sounded horrible - rough and noisy and unlike it had ever sounded before. He came back the next day, was here for 5 hours, put the new power steering pump in, and said he still wasn't done, as a CV boot that he'd said was torn and needed replacing wouldn't arrive until the next morning. But, he said, the car was OK to drive. Which I did that night, but just for a couple of miles. He then called the next morning to say the CV boot would not be in till the afternoon and he'd be over about 4pm to finish (I'd already paid him for the boot). I called him at 4:30, I called him at 5:30. He never returned my calls (and still hasn't). The next day I drove to a trailhead off Sunrise. When I got there (~8 miles) something smelled like it was burning. I opened the hood and saw that something had spewed all over the engine and the whole thing was smoking. After it cooled down, I coasted most of the way home, with a friend following me, and the engine running hotter and hotter until it was bordering on the red. I let the car cool down again, then drove the couple of blocks to the repair shop I was originally going to. Turned out this so-called mechanic had neglected to plug the fan that cools the engine back in and so the radiator had cracked and it was coolant that was all over the engine. And so the money I was supposedly saving went for a new radiator and assorted other small fixes. There's still a new vibration coming from the exhaust system that was never there before, and I don't know yet what else he might have screwed up. The whole experience has been a nightmare (what I've described above is only the main part of the story - there was also a lot of wrong information and bad advice) and so I advise you - STEER CLEAR OF THIS GUY!!!!! read more
