This morning, I turned on my Honda Element and heard an obnoxiously loud noise. Can you guess what happened? Somebody went under my car last night and sawed off catalytic converter along with one of the O2 sensors and stole it. Clean cut, in and out. My car sounded like a stocked sports car. Pissed as I was, I called at least ten nearby locations within a seven mile radius of my location for a price quote for materials, labor, and tax. Thus far, Mike's Muffler Shop was the cheapest. Unfortunately, there was no aftermarket for those parts for the Element and the only ones available were from the manufacture. So after several quotes from different shops ranging from $1200-$2000, Mike's place quoted me roughly $1200. I spoke to both Mike and Marty over the phone and they were nice enough to hear my story out and get me manufacture prices for a discount. I arrived around 11:30am and immediately, both Mike and Marty greeted me and started on the job. I knew it was going to take some time because some of the parts had to be picked up so I brought some study material with me. Around 1:30pm, Mike told me the job was finished. I went over to Marty and he gave me a break down of what cost what and why. So the catalytic converter costed me $704, the O2 sensors were $74, labor was $242, because somebody stole my catalytic converter, I didn't have one to return to the manufacture which costed me an additional $150, and taxes were around $82. Basically, my overall total was $1092 which is a lot better than what I was expecting to pay. These people are honest mechanics and while I was there, I met several customers who can vouch for them too. Great service, great prices, and I highly recommend people. read more

Coming from West LA, it took ~40 mins to get here, but it was worth the drive. Considering the gas prices and the fact that my car is a guzzler (15 city/23 highway mpg per manufacturer's specs, but it's much less for me because of my heavy right foot and racer tendencies), my willingness to make this trek is a reflection of how satisfied I am with Mike's service. Before coming here, I had previous work on my exhaust system done at an expensive (albeit reputable) custom shop in the valley. Although I was happy with the tone and quality of sound that my system produced, I decided to look elsewhere when a half-assed job left my muffler tips in contact with the rear bumper. For the amount of money I paid, my car deserved better. When choosing a muffler/exhaust shop, one should consider the following: 1) the technician's knowledge of exhaust systems 2) his/her welding skills 3) quality of materials used 4) price Mike's service fulfilled (and exceeded) those aforementioned criteria. Mike provided me with all the information I needed to make an informed decision, and after being counseled over the phone, I decided to have an x-pipe installed in my continual effort to create a less restrictive exhaust system (an improved exhaust note was an added bonus but not priority). In short, I'm beyond satisfied. The welding was neat and effective, the car sounds sexual, and throttle response improved (despite some negligible loss of low end torque). My only complaint is that I paid slightly more than the figure he quoted over the phone. This will be the only shop I take my car to for all future projects. read more

GOOD ASS JOB for HELL CHEAP. I got a dual exhaust custom made from a forum dude. I decided to get a dual exhaust instead of a single exhaust (stock). George helped me cut a slot in the bumper and add a exhaust hanger because my muffler was too heavy (on the left side). Mike was making sure everything was measured correctly before the cuts. I had a specific idea in mind for the exhaust system on my 2012 MINI Countryman S All4, that no aftermarket company offers, and needed a shop that could execute it smoothly. Mike's Muffler Shop surpassed all my expectations! They are, by far, one of the best shops around. I've had an 06 STI, 09 STI, E36M3 and E46M3 all with exhaust modifications, among other things, and none of them have impressed me as much as what Mike's team can deliver. I've always gone custom because it costs less than aftermarket systems and performs just as well, sometimes better. Mike offers prices no shop that I've seen can beat! So I came back on another day around 9:00am and they were open! Hurray! I was told that the owner had surgery and his main worker was sick and thats why they were closed on saturday. Still would of been nice if they put a sign. Annyways so they work on my car first laid down the wooden blocks for my car to get on the ramps which is nice. I was told to delete the resonators was $60 and installing exhaust tips were $40 bucks. No problem sounds reasonable then I asked him roughly how much? He said $115 then when I had to pay hes like sooo, how about $130. Wtf why did you up your prices so much? $60 to delete resonators and $70 to install exhaust tips?! Come on. Welds were super sloppy, granted I could of done better. Cut my tips way too much without asking my permission to be cut. Overall, its whatever. read more

I can't say enough he helped me save $1600 I needed a catalytic converter for a 2010 Honda and was the only muffler shop that gave me the information I needed. He told me I should have a emissions warranty that will cover my problem. Marty took the time to explain everything I had to look for and say. He didn't have to help me because he was not going to make any money of my problem but still helped anyway. So I was able to get my catalytic converter changed with the dealer at no cost. I searched online for someone to give me advice on whether my catalytic converter was vulnerable to theft. Based on the great reviews, I called this shop and spoke with Marty. He told me to bring the car in and they'd put it on the rack to check it out. When I got there Jose and Marty stuck my car on the rack and determined that it already had a factory cover on it and was unlikely to be stolen. Sure, a thief can spend 20 minutes taking the cover off and removing the converter, but they don't usually go to that kind of trouble. They will select a more vulnerable vehicle. I was willing to pay for their advice, but they refused. I loved them both and will go back. Also figured I'd relay my experience. Hard to find nice, honest, competent mechanics and wanted to pass it along. read more

I have been bringing different cars to Mike's for two decades now. They are always courteous, they never talk down to me as a female driver, and my cars always roll out of the shop in tip-top shape. Not only do they do excellent work but they are also honest. I thought I needed a new Catalytic Converter when I brought my current car to them last week.
