Wow wow wow!!! Mike's Pastry Shop is hands down one of the best hidden gems I've been to! I won't lie, I was a bit unsure of what to expect because I did read the reviews beforehand but I went without expectations and I truly do not understand why this pastry shop is under a 4. Here's my play-by-play: Parking: the parking is ample here however it is a bit compact (NOT the bakery's fault!). I went in 3 times to ensure I tried a good amount before making my decision on top of trying their variety of pastries it was also to ensure how the service would be, honestly, every time I went in the atmosphere was very nonchalant. Since this is a local business they don't have that over-nice overwhelming energy you'd get at corporate stores. Which I am more than happy with, the three ladies that helped me with my selections also bake the pastries I believe so it was great knowing the lovely individuals who put passion into these pastries. Taste overall: When I tell you that everything I tried was absolutely delicious. The only note I have is that these are traditional pastries so they tend to have a slightly drier texture (bit the extremely gooey and super moist texture like in manufactured pastries) these are truly amazing paired with a coffee as they soak up coffee nicely. If you are a raspberry fan please GET ALL THE RASPBERRY pastries they have! The raspberry flavor is very natural and homemade . On top of that the cannolis...don't get me started, these are truly in my top 3 cannoli places. The shell, filling, and chocolate were perfectly balanced, no notes. Will be returning for the cannolis and raspberry pastries. Definitely a must have and I am very sad we do not have a Mike's Pastry Shop in the Central Valley. read more

Very disappointed with my recent experience. First and last order I'll ever make here. Ordered a cake for Mother's Day. Picked up the cake on Friday which was taped in a box. This was the fresh whip cream with strawberries. When we opened the box two days later Sunday morning there was mold on the strawberries. When messaged the business, I was met with defensiveness as it were my fault the cake had mold. The bakery had a chance to make it right but instead, chose the position to state their cakes are made fresh and any mold would be the customers fault by not refrigerating the cake. Even went so far to say, it's not mold but looks like whip cream. That's completely inaccurate. If I were to make assumptions, this fresh cake was not made on the day I picked it up. So disappointed in the cake I received for my nephews baptism. I ordered a cream color half-sheet color. I was told for it to be a different color than white, it had to be buttercream so I could not order whipped cream and also it would be an additional $30. The lady confirmed this cake order with Mike. I pick-up the cake and it's white. The owner Mike came out and said it was off-white and that I had to give sample of cream color, that his employee (standing next to him) did not know how to place order. I could not believe what I heard and there were customers in line. I did not want to make a scene so I accepted my white half sheet cake and left. But I plan to order my cakes elsewhere. My boss got me a cake for my birthday and it's beyond amazing! I chose the champagne flavored cake w/ delightful creamy airy frosting on top and I can't stop eating it! I actually tried it last year and I mentioned to her I must have that champagne cake again this year! The cake is light and fluffy, and the filling is custard-like. Quite perfect and not overly sweet at all. There are also chopped nuts on the outside of the cake, which adds a nice little surprise crunch with every bite! Based off customer service: I called around 8:20am on a Friday to ask about the strawberry cake that this place gets rave reviews about. The lady who answered the phone said it's Friday and it's first come first serve. Understandable. Then she proceeded to tell me they're making them still.. and tells me again it's first come first serve . So I asked about what time would she recommend I come in since there aren't any avail yet. She rudely says I can't tell you that ! It's first come first serve! Mind you they open from 7am-3pm I wasn't asking for a cake to be reserved I was asking about what time will she have any avail.. an ESTIMATED TIME. Maybe even a window timeframe idk .. something?? New to the area and have been looking for a bakery, I think this is the only bakery in town, besides Dore (Brentwood) and Monica's bakery (Antioch). Customer service was good, nice and welcoming lady at the counter. Fair prices, each pastry was under $5. Eclair was okay- I've tried better (Schuberts in SF makes the best, Copenhagen Burlingame also good) the dough didn't taste fresh, maybe they were a day old? Whipped cream had kind of an artificial flavor, not like fresh whip. Chocolate on top was okay. Cannoli was great! Nice crisp texture, not soggy, marscopne with orange zest filling was delicious and chocolate was nice! Lemon tart- hard pass. The lemon curd had a jello texture and crust was too soft. Dore's lemon tart is better. They had lots of other options, cake slices, ready made cakes, muffins, other pastries. Might come back to try other things if I'm in the area, but wouldn't go out of my way to come back. read more

Based off of the interaction today, I will no longer be a customer. 2 stars because their pastries and cakes are divine, but 0 stars for rude customer service. My mom typically buys birthday cakes at general grocery stores for birthdays, but this year she thought she'd switch it up and purchase one from a pastry shop. Of course the price was a little more than a store, but wow... well worth it. The chocolate banana cake was BOMB. I can honestly say that the frosting on the cake is the best frosting I've ever had. I admit freely that I'm very fussy and demanding about pastries and baked goods. My daughter is an amazing baker, and I'm spoiled by fresh bread, cakes, and pastries she makes. For her birthday, however, I didn't want her to have to bake. Upon recommendations from work colleagues, I ordered a fruit tart from Mike"s Pastry Shop. It was delicious! The base is light and crispy, and it's topped with a delicate sponge that helps to keep the pastry light and moist. Atop this is a smooth and creamy pastry cream (not too sweet, either), and then gobs of fresh strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and kiwis, glistening with what I'm guessing is an apricot glaze. We enjoyed every bite, and I will definitely order again, as well as trying some other of the freshly baked items they carry. read more

Ever since I moved to Antioch six years ago, I have used Alpine Bakery in Concord for any cake I've needed. Don't get me wrong, there cakes are very good, and I have left them great reviews, so I am not knocking them. This time we decided to give Mike's Pastry Shop a try, here in our town. We ordered a nine inch chiffon cake, with lemon filling and whipped cream topping. When I picked it up the girl was very friendly, went to the back and brought the cake up, and I was blown away by the decorations on the cake. I honestly thought the blue roses were plastic they looked so darn real. She said no it's frosting. Whoever make's there cakes and decorates them, is unbelievable. The cake was in one word, "Perfection " that's all I can say. The last time I got one at Alpine the baker's forgot the decorations so the girl did the best she could, but it didn't look good. Mike's has earned our business from now on. I can highly recommend them, the girl said they can make any cake you want. For us, we also noticed that they make Portuguese sweet bread, with a two day notice. Now I don't have to drive to Fremont to get it. read more

They hound you for the image and then come to find out they hadn't even made the cake yet on the morning of pick up. The older woman is very unprofessional and rude had my mother in tears . We had our wedding on 3/29/19. And we were referred to mikes pastry shop via wedgewood. The consultation was easy and they were flexible since we were traveling from out of town. We sent them an email with pictures for inspiration, we collaborated with the florist and she dropped off our flowers the day of.
