It's cozy and very laid back with high top tables. I ordered an Old Fashioned but mixed drinks weren't really on offer unless it was something like rum and coke. I had a beer. It was fine. We were there for about an hour and a half. I would definitely return. The vibes were slow paced. We moved on to The Checkered Flag. Wowza!! It was a Thursday night but the place was hopping. We were joined by another friend with plans to have a bite to eat. The menu is unbelievable. So much to choose from. We were kind of boring because 3 of us chose the same thing and the other two chose the same item. Two had the pork tenderloin. Both agreed it was excellent. Three of us had the BBQ Pork spud. It's a giant baked potato with butter, a good spread of pimento cheese, moist pulled pork, BBQ sauce, coleslaw and green onions. It was fantastic. Normally the pork can become a bit dry. This was not the case. Cooked perfectly. I was able to order the Old Fashioned. They apologized because they were out of oranges but I was fine. It was a very good drink. There happened to be two musicians performing. I was quite impressed. This tavern was very very impressive. We all agreed to return Our final stop was Herrmann. It's a small brewery tucked away off a quiet street. We were offered several tastings of the beers on offer. We were all able to find something to our liking. I had a porter. There are tables for four spread around the seating area. It's comfortable and definitely a neighborhood haunt. All three places were definitely neighborhood taverns. The Checkered Flag was hands down the best! Indy has so much to offer!

There are a number of signs warning of restrictions and it appears that they do a security search at night to restrict weapons and drugs. Charisse, the bartender and only server was super engaging, attentive and went the extra mile to ensure a positive experience. Not only did she check on us, but the cook also came out and checked on our meals. We had 5 star service. The menu offers pizza, sandwiches and salads. Prices are reasonable. I selected the taco salad with pulled pork. The salad was immense with fresh lettuce, tomato and cheese. The pulled pork was good. The fried shell was a bit greasy. Otherwise, the salad was good and filling. My husband had the Big Western Burger which he raved about (and he can be critical). The burger was specially prepared medium rare for him and it was cooked perfectly. He loved the bacon, onion rings and bbq sauce toppings. He gave the burger a definite 5 stars. The table we selected was a bit cold (it was snowing out). Every time someone came into the building, a blast of cold came in. We probably could have moved but the table was already set. They are perfectly nestled into a highly trafficked strip off of Georgetown rd & it's welcoming for "regular lunchtime attire" even though as soon as I stepped in, I felt underdressed (in a good way) the place is VERY clean & fully equipped for both day and night time crowds. Parking is all shared with the neighboring stores/businesses but it is very large so no qualms about finding a good spot. I was surprised to have placed a food order for myself and my daughter around 12:45pm and my food was bagged and ready to go by 1:15pm - while I waited, I did partake in an alcohol slushy which was so delicious & well deserved haha. The kitchen staff that I came in contact with and the bartender (Jasmine, Ms. Gigi & Shamon (sp)) were all very sweet women and took their time answering all of my curious questions about the space as well as menu/drinks. Another fun fact I learned about this place is that it is BLACK OWNED!! The food quality was on point (no cheap ingredients) and it was still hot when I got home. Fried mushrooms are always a sports bar go to of mine & these lived up to my expectations, the catfish was juicy on the inside and perfectly fried on the outside- not one piece of the two large fillets were the seasonings compromised. My daughter LOVED her wings & we know how teenagers love chicken wings. She was also happy the red beans & rice weren't spicy like she's had in the past from other places. One last thing I'd like to mention is that I usually am annoyed that my to-go order didn't include proper utensils or sauces requested.... They did not shy away from giving me ample sauces & napkins (they were thick too)! All in all, AllStars gets 5 stars from me! Allowing ball throwing in a packed dining area creates unnecessary safety risks for guests, servers, and pets. A simple rule against throwing footballs/baseballs in the seating area -- or designating a separate play space -- would make a huge difference and help preserve the relaxed brewery environment many customers come for. The beer and staff were great, but the outdoor experience would improve significantly with a little more structure and supervision.
