I found Mikka on Yelp and am so happy I did. I've had a stylist for 30 years in Richmond (who I love dearly) but needed to find someone closer to my current home. Left with a shoulder length cut, Mikka made my hair more beautiful than ever with long layers after washing it out with high quality products and styling it once done. I made an appointment 2 weeks out to get my hair done. At almost 5:30 pm the day before my 4 pm appointment she calls to tell me she needs to bump me down an hour. I live about 40 mins away and had already made plans for after my 2 hour appnt and told her I did not think I would be able to but would need to call her back in a few mins once I figured out how to rearrange my evening. Instead of "I'm sorry for the inconvenience", her response was, "your appointment is 2 hours anyway and if you can't make it for a one hour change then I will just take you off the schedule". She even had the nerve to claim that she was giving me 24 hours notice (no you didn't) and would expect the same courtesy from me. She gets one star not for moving my appnt but for the way she did it and what she said. I did not feel that she was in any way empathetic to the fact that she made the schedule change after I arranged my day to be able to go to my appointment, there was no apology, and yes, even a one hour change warrants me needing few mins to figure out how to rearrange my plans. read more

I am pretty flexible when it comes to color & style. But there's been a style I've wanted to try that no other hair stylist has been able to achieve.... Until now! Just moved to the area, already tried out one salon. Didn't HATE the first salon, but knew it probably wasn't for me. Once I find a stylist, I stick with them. So after reading reviews chose Mikka. Fingers crossed. First, I loved the shop concept. It was not like anything I had ever seen. Loved the privacy and welcoming quality. Mikka was lovely to chat with. I love my "chair time". Getting my hair done is my guilty pleasure. When I'm in the chair for 2-3 hours doing something new with my do' I love it when my stylist is fun, easy to talk with, and likes to engage in conversation. Mikka was funny, & made the time fly by! I brought her a picture of what I wanted to achieve, understanding that to get there would be a gradual process to keep my hair healthy. She explained every step she was doing, why she was doing it, and what the outcome would be. I'm pretty hair savvy as to the how's & why's things need to be done especially when going red, but Mikka made sure she explained every step of the process. My last hair cut and color made my 45+ aged hair look dull, thin & flat. After Mikka worked her magic with color and a shape up, my hair looks vibrant, full, and luxurious! Even my husband loved it.... and that's pretty impressive. I have found my new stylist and look forward to a long term "chair time" relationship. I have been using Mikka as my hairstylist for over 2 years and am so glad I found her. I moved to Houston in 2008 and was having a lot of trouble finding a good hairstylist until I found her. Not everyone can work with my hair and Mikka does a great job and I plan on following her wherever she goes. She even did my hair for my wedding. I got so many compliments! I have to say that Mikka has been the best stylist that I have ever had. She is very interested in the health of my hair over making money. I have requested color and styles and she has advised me against it if it was going to be over process my hair in the end. I value a stylist who loves their craft and desires for me to be MY most beautiful. I wanted to go natural when we first met and other stylist told me no. My hair was not the texture that could be styled without a relaxer. My Mikka had faith in me and was willing to help me achieve the look I was going for. She transitioned my hair over 2 years and today people stop me all the time and ask for tips on how they can become natural. My answer is always the same... You have to see my stylist Mikka. Last year I started trying an adventurous ombre look that I loved and after about 8 months I was ready for a change. Now I am rocking what is called a Sombre, looking more like a brunette but what was very blond before looks now like a slightly lighter color that keeps bringing light and movement to my hair. Well, I have to say that visiting this salon has been the worse experience for me. It was my first time and it will be my last. Upon arrival we discussed if she had done bob haircuts before and she stated with confidence she had. The final result was that my left side of hair is longer than the right as well as the back side. I asked for my bangs to be cut below my eye brows and she chopped them to the middle of my forehead. I brought that to her attention the day of the appointment and she was not pleased that I did. I am not sure how you can mess up bangs. It took her 1 hour and 30 minutes to complete the haircut. In addition, days later I see duplicate charges from Mikka Arrington Salon as well as a reoccurring charge of $65 on my credit card. I reached out to her to inquire on the issue and she stated that I connected my credit card to style seat. She stated she will refund the $65 duplicate charge (pending). She initially requested a $25 dollar deposit prior to visit via Cash App (had to download) and at that time I was redirected to Style seat. She claimed that it would not affect anything. It turns out that it does. It was comical that at then end of the text conversation she stated that I was rude in her salon and to have a nice life. Apparently, stating that she cut my bangs too short or had expectations of having a nice hair cut is considered rude. She was so unprofessional. read more

This is without a doubt the best color/ highlights I've ever had! (It was late in the day and very rainy outside, so we just tousled my natural waves instead of straightening it. But after living with my new do for a few days and styling it myself, I'm certain now that this is the best my hair has ever looked!) My goal is to grow out my natural brown color but keep a few accent highlights around my face to brighten it up- Mikka gave me exactly that! I had a brassy light brown color with dark roots, and she seamlessly blended in a darker brown and added soft, subtle highlights to frame my face. This color looks so natural on me and there is no chemical damage (which I am prone to getting). I'll never go to another stylist again. Awesome trim too! I love the long bangs. Mikka is an amazing stylist who I have followed for years. My cut, color and style are always perfect. All my friends and coworkers know when I've been to see her because I can't get my hair anywhere close to as straight as she can. For reference, my hair is super long(almost to my waist) and curly. She is very patient and willing to explain purposes for products used on your hair. She takes time out to explain best practices for you to maintain your hair at home, which is super important to me. Additionally, she is open on Sunday afternoons which helps when I run out of time on Fridays and Saturdays. What really sets her apart from most stylist is that she thanks you and tells you she appreciates you coming in for services with such a sincere voice when you leave.
