I have been shopping at Milam's Market in Miami Springs for years, but my recent experience was disappointing. Something seems to be amiss in the meat department. Traditionally, the cuts displayed at the full-service meat counter are noticeably thicker and of a different quality than those found in the self-service refrigerated cases. Lately, however, the cuts at the meat counter appear to be the same thickness and presentation as those in the self-serve display, which diminishes the value of purchasing from the service counter. Customer service was also lacking. The employees I encountered appeared unhappy to be assisting customers. There was no greeting, no smile, and the overall impression was that customer questions were an inconvenience rather than an opportunity to help. In addition, I asked a stock employee in the ice cream aisle about an advertised sale. Even after I showed him the store flyer, he seemed unfamiliar with the promotion and responded that they "must not have it." There was no attempt to verify the information or help locate the product. The interaction left the impression that he was completely unaware of current store promotions. Milam's has long been known for its quality products and neighborhood service, which is why this experience was surprising. I hope management takes a closer look at the meat department and customer service standards so the store can maintain the reputation that has made it a Miami Springs staple. read more

Great selection of groceries in this small local store. My friend and I came here on a Monday of a 4 day work trip. She was looking for fresh fruits and I was looking for all the things to make PB and J the healthiest way possible. We got here near closing time but were able to find everything we needed for the week. They had good customer service as well. first,the meats are way overpriced. a small whole chicken for $28.!!! there was no wild fresh salmon. I dont buy farmed fish. and their salmon had a ritle "harmoniously raised" the salmon was pale and not red. so definitely nor wild. however there were good fresh produce at reasonable prices. the best being the japanese purple sweet potatos delish ! and Publux doesnt have them . and big garlic bulbs for .87 cents each. beautiful swiss chard only 3$ and the pet foods are cheap.nice wine and beer selections too! I wish I had this market in my neighborhood. I had eaten brunch nearby and wanted to pick up some wine for the weekend and didn't want hotel prices or mediocre wine. The store is so bright and clean, the aisles well marked. The wine section was nicely laid out and marked. The variety was great and the prices affordable. Wandered the rest of the store for a bit to check it out. Produce and meat areas looked fresh. Lots of variety in pantry items and cultural foods. They have their own private parking lot. Being close to home, Milam's offers a reasonable-enough market selection to make it an easier choice than leaving the neighborhood to go to Publix for quick staples. The pros: - close - easy parking - good beer selection (best locally) - a nice selection of organic options - good French and Cuban bread Cons: - Expensive and limited produce - watch for past expired date dairy and perishables like kosher pickles, milk, yogurts - We've had meat and chicken purchased here spoil very quickly more than once For a small local market, they do offer a wide variety, but I've always gotten the feeling that this location is stocked with goods that are close to the end of their shelf life. One thing we get here is ice cream ... because they offer some organic varieties that don't contain corn syrup (an allergy). But it's not unusual that the freezer is filled with thick layers of frost, and items sometimes appear to have thawed and re-frozen. It's just not well maintained, and often times I bypass what I want because of the condition. For these reasons, we never do our full or regular grocery shopping here, but rather reserve that for Publix or Lucky outside of our neighborhood. read more

This is my neighborhood market and I love coming here. It's quick, convenient, and has a great variety of items. Usually, going to any other market is a drag but not Milam's. They are always fully staffed. Every single member of the staff is helpful and friendly. There is rarely any long lines and there is always plenty of carts available. The store is organized and clean. It's fully stocked at all times. They have a mini section with lots of rows of wine for us wine lovers! They have a nice selection of flowers and some floral arrangement that come in mason jars and tea cups that are perfect for that quick little present you needed to get last minute. I've also ordered food here for thanksgiving- corn bread, mashed potatoes, Mac and cheese and they've been a hit. I've ordered party plates assortments that have been delicious and fresh too. I love that whenever there is an item that you're looking for and they don't have, (which has only happened once for me), they have a form you can fill out to ask if they can bring the product to the store. read more

This is the local independent grocery store in Miami Springs. A fine store with a better then expected wine selection. It does pale in comparison to the Bird Road store but I guess the locals can not or will not demand that level. The managers are very close and eager to listen to suggestions and request. Considering that this was a Piggly Wiggly long time back, This store is a rock star. Considering how far Publix has fallen in quality of food, Miiams is still a super star in the area. to get the 5th star, the deli need a huge overhaul, the music needs seriousl updating and a little push to bring the magic that the other stores have. Town feel store! this supermarket is the closest one to my house making it convenient. I love the high end products and variety of specialty fruits and vegetables. Also, for example now for the holidays their variety of panettone is very nice to see you don't find that in many supermarkets. I went to Milams to go find something for me to eat . I got burritos 2 for a dollar & egg salad a little container of it. I went to the check out to pay with my food stamp & the girl told me that I can't use it for egg salad cause it's from the deli. I didn't know & I didn't have enough in my account cause I have only enough to pay my car insurance so they brought it back to the deli. I saw the man who helped me with the egg salad & told him I'm sorry & told him my situation. He told me to wait, came back with it in a bag & told me he paid for it. I'm too lazy to cross over to Hialeah to Publix or Winn Dixie, so Milams it is! Even though this is the only grocery store in Miami Springs, it really is a good one, but boy is it expensive! I absolutely adore their selection of balloons, flowers and cards, it's the very first thing you see when you walk in. Perfect for those last minute gifts and occasions. The store is always clean and the staff is really friendly. They have a nice selection of wines and organic products. They also offer to-go cooked meals. I've had their rotisserie chicken and found it tasty. Yes their selection is limited but that's what happens when you shop at a independent grocery store. Want more selection? go to the big boys. Milams Market seems to be the stepchild of Whole Foods-- smaller, less selection decorated by a fancy looking interior. I came here to find some Anaheim chiles, and they didn't have them. It is my local supermarket, I go often because is in tha hood, but if you compare it to some other ones I would choose Publix sabor or other one. Their selection is very limited, but good, don't get me wrong, this market has nothing to do with the Gables one, it doesn't compare so don't go with the name. This place always has the most expensive of anything, something that would cost 2 dollars at publix or somewhere else would cost ~6 dollars here. A good portion of the time they also will have their register system not working. In the hot food section, they will also have old food from the beginning of the day made so expect it to not be of good quality. read more

This store is very overpriced and the food is not fresh I had some creamed spinach and I was sick for two days throwing up around Thanksgiving last year and they are still serving it it obviously shows me that yeah the corporate cares but the store doesn't they will still serve old stuff or things that make people sick also for being a healthy store the food is greasy in the hot food and you can tell some other stuff is just horrendously overpriced read more

I think it's just the size of this store but I wasn't impressed at all. I was expecting more for a grocery store that supposed to be an Organic seller and the local competition to the corporate monster known as Whole Foods. Not much of a selection for produce. Baked goods was basically a 6 foot section. Bread selection was just a table. Fish and Meat dept was decent at best. Frozen wasn't impressive either. I usually dont buy items from the isles but I looked just too see. Honestly, I'd rather just go to Publix or Winn Dixie! The people were friendly and helpful so I gave them 3 stars for it. While the staff is always pleasant, there are many products that are often expired. I don't mind paying a little higher for convenience but I expect the items to be fresh. Would also like to see more organic products and produce. Overall it's convenient but lacks a fresh approach and I always have to check the expiration date on any item I buy there. read more

My 3 stars off are due to: 1) -1 for pricing, it is very expensive and rarely you can find a deal that matches other common grocery stores. 2) -1 for product freshness, the place seems to let certain delicate products go bad or arrive unchecked. 3) -1 for customer service, due to #2, for a specific product i went there to return an expired product, I even spoke to the manager who proceeded to check another product in stock and confirmed the issue. Prior to living in the Miami Springs area I had never visited a Milam's Market. I am fortunate enough to live down the block from this location and when I need something quickly it works out quite well.Their prices can and tend to be higher then a supermarket not by a substantial amount but a noticeable amount. I have noticed they do have the same specials from time to time. They have a pretty decent wine and beer selection. The deli area is also halfway decent, the ambiance is very relaxed and take your time kind of feel. There is always classical music playing, I assume to make you feel relaxed and calm when shopping. The staff is pretty friendly and the lines are never really long at least during the times that I have been there. I come here to grab eggs, milk, drinks or some pantry type item I made need in a pinch. I do the bulk of my shopping at other supermarkets or the warehouse chain places. But if your looking to check off your basic shopping list for the week you're sure to find what you need. I would have given it a higher star but the prices and lack of some commonly found items like at other "supermarkets" had me give it 3 stars. read more

In recent months the quality of the meat selection in particular has fallen to a point where on my last visit I bought meat good for another 2 days, only to immediately return it due to foul smell. Meat was rotten. I hope that the ownership takes serious consideration into overhauling the quality checks. A couple days ago on Valentine's Day I was shopping to pick up some dinner after a long day and as I was checking out, I realized I had no damn clue where my keys were. Now this happens to me quite often so I wasn't too concerned but the workers at Miliam's Market immediately sprung to help me. And this was after one of their craziest shifts of the years... Amidst all the men who had to do late night drop-ins to get their girl that last minute orchid. The cashier saw I needed some assistance and let her manager know. (I suck for not remembering the names of these lovely people!) Figuring they were in my car (wouldn't be the first time), he and some coworkers got some tools to open the door..... All the while not making me feel like an idiot and just being glad to help. The customer service I received on this day was second to none and is just another reason while I will continue to shop at Miliam's in Miami Springs. read more

I want to give this place 4 stars because of its friendly staff and also for the constant availability of natural and organic products. I can't say the same about Publix because the availability of organic produce is random, even in the stores that are suppose to carry Greenwise. However, there is a funky smell at times of rotten meat produce. It's weird because the place doesn't look dirty. But the smell is unappealing. Someone else mentioned the products are sometimes expired. I wouldn't say it's a frequent issue but I have occasionally seen expired products. I have noticed the cashiers are checking expiration dates and they have been working diligently on restocking. The lines are always short or fast moving and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Even though I gave them 3 stars, I have to say that I rather go to Milams than the Publix across the street in Hialeah. It smells just the same, there is no parking, and the lines are slow. Driving to the Publix is Doral is also not worth it for me because they don't carry the products I buy. So, I deal with the occasional smell and always get the products I need at Milams. I am writing this review so that maybe management can take care of these minor issues. Aside from this I would give them 4 stars. read more
