We had been driving for a very long time, had checked into our fabulous Airbnb and were ready for something to eat. I had checked this place out before hand, and it looked great! It was also a super close option that I wouldn't have to worry about us driving up a steep mountain at night! When we walked in...it was just..sad. I could see that they have a large open area for playing pool, several areas with booths, what looked like a stage (that housed some not so amazing local singer while we were getting ready to leave) There was a huge area outside with strung lights and a great fire pit. This place is ready for crowds of folks wanting to have a good time and enjoy some food and beverages. I noticed that a lot of the staff was dressed like Oz characters. I am not sure if this was something that they actually wanted to do but it was cool. Then I saw something that made me giggle and talk to strangers. A list of themed drinks!! I love a theme. I chose the ruby slipper drink, and then I saw that the menu is also on the counter and is super limited. So Im standing at a counter ordering a cocktail, which feels odd...and then there are only really a few items to choose from for food. I went with a cheeseburger with all the veggies and a special sauce, that I think was just mayo and ketchup mixed. We were given a number and told to pick a table. We went to the left and sat down. Not too long had passed and a server came out with my drink, and said ..oh you sat way over HERE. When the food came, I saw that this was probably a really great place to hang out when you live here, but when the town is so busy for an event, they can't handle the load of so many customers, and maybe aren't the nicest about it. Lack of Common sense when opening this place. Burgers are as thin as a McD's cheeseburger. They cost $20 bucks each. Bartender said they are not allowed to have sports on the tvs- first day of College Football??? Nobody there to greet you and tell you that you order at the counter and they will bring the food out. Burgers were lousy. Wings were overcooked and expensive. Their hot is just Texas Pete sauce..Glass of wine was way overpriced. Fries were decent. Music was way too loud. It was club music in the mountains??? This place won't make it. I can say that as a local. They have a nice building next door that is supposed to be for events. Minimum price $1500. Cons: 2 Burgers (little mushroom/swiss,1 double cheeseburger),side of fries (they are not included) ,soda and 2 beers@ $8 = $50 (YIKES) Upon entry, told by cashier " we are only serving limited menu -- these 2 items" Items added to burgers that were not on the menu (onions to swiss burger -- I have an extreme allergy), the burger was remade but it arrived when my partner was completely finished with dinner. It's a great place to come off the mountain and get some bar food and drinks. It's also really expensive for what it is. We got pizzas, which were hearty and tasty. They were just $20 for one. But, that's the going rate being this close to the slopes. It's got more of a bier garden vibe to it, but it's definitely cozy and warm. read more

Waited for an hour for our food. Group of 10 in front of us who all got their food, ate, and left before we got ours. Then people who ordered after us started getting their food. Had to go up and ask where our was. No refills on soda like a usual restaurant. The food was pretty good but they hadn't had a shipment of fries come in so we had to get onion rings. Not that great and kind of pricey. I think you pay for the convenience of not having to go down the mountain to eat. The service was slow and they make you get in the back of the line for so much as a drink refill. The burgers were ok, but the fries and onion rings tasted like something out of the frozen section at the grocery store. Visited here last night with friends and had an excellent experience. We watched the football championships while we had appetizers, drinks and finally our meals. The chef was very friendly and the waitress was one of the best we had seen during our visit to the mountain. The food was tasty. The mac and cheese bites were cooked perfectly and there were no complaints with the entrees. Our drinks were refilled timely and our waitress was very prompt in asking us if we needed anything or responding to any requests. We will definitely make this a regular stop for our group during trips to Beech Mountain. read more

After a long day on the mountain, this place seems like a convenient place to grab food and a drink given that it's right outside the resort entrance. A couple of things you need to be aware of: - After somewhere around 9pm, they only serve fried foods. (Appetizers) - Around this same time, this place essentially becomes a club, and by that I mean the music is turned up extremely loud and is, of course, extremely terrible. As for food/service, our experience was fair. The pot stickers and wings were actually both pretty good. Sriracha BBQ wings are the way to go. Our bartender was fairly attentive and aside from having to flag him down to order food and forgetting our last drink order, he did a good job of taking care of us. I really wanted to give this place 3 stars because the food wasn't bad at all. But the two major problems listed above make me wish we had gone somewhere else. I'm giving it 2 stars in hopes to persuade you to avoid making the same mistake we made and opt for a different venue. Unless of course you're just trying to get extremely hammered and dance your butt off with other drunk idiots. Then by all means, step right up. read more

Buyer be ware! I am not typically one to post a review deterring someone from an establishment but we had a terrible takeout experience here. When I was unable to find a menu anywhere online, called to place an order for pizzas, only to learn they had personal pizzas only. I quickly ordered 8 personal pizzas and 10 wings. No price was given, however when my husband when to pick it up, the bill was $175 for 8 personal pizzas and a few wings. The pizza was flavorless with a cardboard crust and the wings were decent at best. If you choose here, make sure you get the pricing upfront. We will never be back here. read more

Okay this is between a 2 and a 3. As a family we couldn't decide what to rate them. We had passed here a few times coming up and down the mountain last year and now this year. 3 stars for them being accommodating and nice, we wanted a specific game that they truly went above and beyond for us to find the game. Unfortunately there was an issue with the nhl network and they were playing a different game than what was broadcasted. 2 stars for the food and service, they were out of a lot, the servers didn't seem to know what they were missing or what they had. We ordered water and beers - it probably took 10 minutes for the water and then another 5 for beer. we ordered some apps, they were a bit overpriced for frozen mozzarella sticks, soggy wings (we asked for well done). We decided after that we couldn't eat dinner there. The only reason the beer was cold was because of the glass. They seemed like they couldn't handle the few people in the restaurant. read more

Set atop Beech Mountain is a nice hidden restaurant/bar on the backside of the mountain near the resort - the Mile High Tavern. Upon arriving on a Monday night, we were one table of about four or five. This place never seemed too crowded, which is unfortunate considering the food is quite good. The four of us ordered some dinner (majority getting wings) and one got a burger. All in all, I was pleasantly surprised by the food. Wings were delicious (especially the house made sauces). The only downside was that the prices are a little steep, but it's understandable considering you're on the top of a mountain and every other establishment is slightly over priced as well (so that fact really didn't bug me much). For quite a while, I was afraid to try this place (due to it never being packed/crowded). But I've gotta say, I'm a bit disappointed I didn't give this place a shot earlier. The wings will most definitely have me coming back for more. (I can't remember her name, but our waitress was very nice and attentive as well, considering she was the only person working the floor). This place is absolutely horrendous. It doesn't even deserve the thought of a star let alone 1. I don't usually leave bad reviews because I try to look at the bright side of things. But with this place there is no bright side. I paid about $14 for a Cheeseburger and Fries. Which was 100% disgusting and tasted worst then McDonald's burgers. The lettuce was old and had turned red, and the burger was tiny. It did not taste right. Also not to mention it took us an hour and some change to get our food. The manager was completely unprofessional and does not make you feel welcome while you are there whatsoever. My boyfriend asked him for a water while we waited 30 minutes for a table (he said it would take 10) and he told him no. What kind of customer service is that? After we ate (didn't finish my food) I asked the manager where the bathroom was. He looked at me, ignored me and kept walking. I then had to chase him down towards the front and said "excuse me sir, where is the restroom?" He did not even take the time to look up at me. He stared at his clipboard then he rudely pointed and said "Christmas tree, go right". In these case scenarios I usually give them the benefit of the doubt because I understand how difficult and frustrating it is to work in the food industry because I've been there. But if you are a manager it is your duty to make the customers stay pleasant. My boyfriend and I were at that "restaurant" for about 2-3 hours and there were 3 tables around us. The waitress was also not helpful. She came to our table maybe 3 times, had no personality, and did not smile once. It's saddening because Beech Mountain is awesome and you would think any restaurant in that immediate area, ESPECIALLY right next door to them would be amazing as well. Nope. Save your money. This place needs to be burned down and rebuilt into a nice new modernized restaurant as far as I'm concerned. read more

The Greek chef that everyone speaks of in the other reviews no longer works here...we ordered nachos(small with very little toppings, possibly the worst I've ever gotten), a burger with salty kettle chips, Greek salad(iceberg lettuce),sweet potato fries(frozen waffle fries), and a quesadilla(super small, 4 itty bitty pieces). I had to get up twice to get the toppings that hadn't been deliver with our food. For the quality and quantity of what you receive it was way overpriced! Came here on a busy MLK weekend after skiing. They were able to accommodate a party of 10 quickly and easily. The restaurant was packed, and they were extremely understaffed (2 servers covering the entire restaurant and 1 bartender). Besides the craziness, our server was very nice and attentive. They have a great beer selection, with tons of local NC breweries. The fried pickles were probably the best I have ever had. The fried jalapeños and pot stickers were also favorites of the table. The four of us ended up getting 2 burgers and 2 Greek salads. The salads were basically just a $9 pile of iceberg lettuce + two cucumber slices + 1 grape leaf. We requested more veggies and received 3 little tomato chunks each. The waitress was nice but the service was incredibly slow. We were happy with her until we got the bill. One of the salads had a rock in it (!!) so that was comped. Otherwise, we had been charged extra for sweet potato fries with no warning by the waitress or menu. Same for the alcohol, charged above it's listing price on the menu with no warning. When we expressed confusion at this she took our cards with no explanation and came back with the over charges on our cards. Overall the food wasn't great and the service was frustrating. Went for dinner with a group of eight guys and it started out well. Good atmosphere, good wings, and we got seated right away... Then that was about all the good that happened. First they were out of a few different beers however waitress didn't know till after the order was placed. Another 20mins go by and we place food order. Another 30mins till we got our food, except one of our guys didn't get his meal till after everyone had already eaten. Service was so bad he actually refused to eat his sandwich. I'd say another 15mins for the checks. Dinner conclusion: Not worth the hassle go somewhere else. Not done though, we thought to give it a second chance and went for lunch next day. We were told it would be at least an hour for food as they had a few people call in, said they had a tough night before?? We decided to just get beers and they were out of a few including Bud Light. We left and went to Bayou Smokehouse, best decision we made all weekend! CONCLUSION: drive the extra 10-15mins to Banner Elk, they obviously know they have the upper hand and don't care at all about the service. I'm not really sure what's going on but I walked inside to get a menu to order dinner to go, I was in the restaurant for 5 minutes standing at the host area with no host in sight. I walked behind her station to grab a menu but there were only lunch menus available. So I walked to the bar to ask a bartender for a menu and there was no bartender. I actually saw a customer get up from her table and go behind the bar to pour herself a draft beer and went back to eating; possibly an off duty employee. I was in the restaurant for at least 10 minutes had not been greeted or even saw an employee that time frame. Needless to say I did not order anything and walked out. The restaurant opened three weeks ago under NEW management with an excellent chef from Greece. We had a great time and meal at the Mike High Tavern. We sat at the fire table outside and had excellent service by Kevin. Lots of great local craft beers and excellent food choices from salads, pizzas, Greek food and more.
