Brisket with fries and potato salad
    Christopher S.

This place has made an awesome comeback since closing for the short time. It's very clean, good service and great food. The stuffed jalapeño-bacon was large and spicy as expected. It big enough for 4 as an appetizer. The wings are cooked perfect and on the "jumbo" size type. Very filling. We got the mango habanero sauce...loved it The brisket was very tender and a larger than expected portion for lunch. My wife and I split it.... The fries are soft fried and taste delicious. The potato salad was a pleasure to eat. Potato salad varies from place to place, but this one is the one to remember. You won't be disappointed. Michelle was our server. She was great and helpful. If you ever had a bad experience here in the past, it's worth giving another try now. Clean Fast and Good

This place is a scam!!!!! Hotel/motel or whatever they call this place is nothing more than a junk hole "to keep my comments clean". Booked a night at this joint and it appeared to be abandoned and vacant....deserted as soon as we entered the driveway. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE.....far far away. Looks like a great place to film a horror movie. Look up reviews on the web, sure wished I did before I booked it in their website. Oh and about their website. Total 100% fabrication of picstures of the rooms, the restaurant and the quality of everything they have on the website. It ranks as #1 on my top 100 "Do not go list". Scam artist. I even reported them to the local sheriffs department. Get a room at a reputable hotel and don't even consider this fagazee!!!!! I'd give it a negative 5 star if I could.

Great staff, setting and fantastic food!

Wonderful staff, excellent food and a delightful setting. We took a nice scenic drive and found this sweet restaurant! We enjoyed the Bang Shrimp which was an excellent starter. We had the Crab Cakes with Mac and cheese and Beer Battered fries and it was excellent! We also had a chance to try the House Specialty Beef Brisket which was excellent!!! We look forward to another trip to this fantastic find near the Blue Ridge once again!

We love this place! Friendly staff and great food we feel so lucky to live right across the street! The brisket Mac and cheese is AMAZING! The cheese is from Ashe County cheese and it is really a special dish. We always get the bang shrimp and the fried green tomato sandwich is very good as well.

It might have just been the holiday rush, but I always figure "busy means good," so my expectations were high--and The Local didn't disappoint. We started with the nachos; they were delicious, though I do wish they came with a bit more meat. For mains, the burger was outstanding--probably one of the best we've had in the entire area. We also ordered the Brazilian steak, which was cooked perfectly and came with great plantains. The quinoa with tofu was good, too, though it was a little dry and would have been perfect with a sauce. The service really stood out. Our waitress was incredibly attentive and refilled my water at least four times without me asking. Great ambiance and an all-around good experience. Definitely worth the wait!

Ratings- He gave the salmon a seven I give my Burger a nine, and the wings were about a seven(dry rub). That said, sitting at the bar was absolutely a treat... Erin was fantastic. Will 100% return and this is definitely a spot not to be missed. Also fantastic beer selection!!!

My wife and I enjoyed a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon, the broccoli salad was amazing. The beef Wellington was mouthwatering. And we topped it off with the crème brûlée. Thank you for the great experience!

Their bartenders are, to a person, superlative. Haley, Lexi, and Emily (still in-training, though…read moreshe has more-than-ample experience) were all professional and delightful this Boonerang weekend. If only the establishment would spring for cable during the World Cup, my experience of The Social as a "sports bar" would've been unparalleled compared to the other pretenders who decided the U.S. Open was the only "sport" worth airing. If I'd only come for wings and such, I'd've had no notes. But guys, your salads are culinarily (and decidedly) confused. My burrata was delivered atop a spiral of beefsteak wedges, nestled among wild greens, with zero seasoning, which is a hate crime when it comes to tomatoes; golden beets would've elevated it considerably, normally without much consideration... however. I'd thankfully chosen to add salmon, which was cooked to perfection, saving the dish. Haley suggested salt and pepper, which was a clutch move. Given the pleasant part of my previous experience, the salmon salad I ordered two nights later was even more discombobulated. Emily asked what kind of dressing I'd prefer, and I managed to avoid recoiling from the options provided: bleu cheese, ranch, thousand island... and then, finally, a cilantro-lime vinaigrette - the only suitable option. Instead of a deep plate, this was served essentially as a "bowl" that one might receive from delivery, only in a ceramic vessel. "Crispy" garbanzo beans (?!) were in one section of the plate, worse green olives than came with my martinis in another, four sad cucumber slices and pickled red onions in yet another, and in the saddest section, under-cooked yellow beets - half-run through a mandoline to make matchsticks, only still-connected at one end into slices to make Hell-deemed beet sporks. Again, all atop mixed greens, which are commonly available, even at Wal-Mart. I didn't deign to more than glance at my neighbors' plates, for fear I'd take even more offense, but the people making food at The Social are either under-staffed or inexperienced, as being unserious would likely wash out if anyone were to pay attention. Regardless, management is to blame for such disappointing experiences, and not their cooks, and certainly not their bartenders. Do better by Boone, and stop reinforcing the notion that standards are somehow lower in the High Country. Don't make me go to Macado's when I visit again next year.

Last night we ate there with the same couple who dined with us the first time...and we all were quite disappointed, unfortunately. My husband and I shared the NY strip steak. There was a surprising amount of fat for this cut of meat, and the steak also had none of that delicious char you expect. It was a bit underdone for the medium we'd requested, but not too far off. Our friends fared worse. The husband ordered a rib eye and deemed it "just ok." The wife ordered a filet cooked medium and it came out completely rare. She tried eating around the edges but left most of her steak untouched (I would have sent mine back to the kitchen if I were her, but my friend is wary of sending meat back; she said she was afraid it would then be overcooked). Her broccolini side dish was so undercooked that it was basically raw, so she didn't eat that either. The french fries and baked potato were fine, and our server was capable and pleasant. However, given the overall experience, we won't be back. That type of meal is handled much better by Stonewall's in Banner Elk.
