Took my sisters from out of town to Milk & Honey for their first visit, and it was disappointing. Four of us ordered the Biscoff chicken and waffles plus the honey milk latte. When the food came out, it looked nothing like what I've had at the Springfield location--no Biscoff sauce or cookie, and it tasted like regular chicken and waffles. Presentation was sloppy. When I mentioned it, the waiter insisted the Biscoff was in the batter and argued instead of checking. The manager came and confirmed they had run out of Biscoff ingredients, which should have been communicated upfront. I won't be returning to this location--I'll stick with Springfield. read more

We went for brunch on a Sunday. It was fairly busy but we were still able to grab a table for 6 without much of a wait. The vibes are casual and fun. There is a bar as well as upstairs seating. The location is perfect in the heart of downtown Alexandria, and we walked from the house we were staying Service is awesome. Everyone was attentive and friendly. Waters were always full, and they brought us fresh plates and utensils for sharing. Our server even memorized all of our orders perfectly! All food portions are enormous. Each dish can easily be shared. Biscuits are buttery and fluffy. Fried fish was tender and crispy. Fried chicken portion was too fried--very crispy but a little dry. Needed to smother with syrup or gravy. Cheesecake pancakes were delicious fruity pancakes but didn't notice any hint of cheesecake. Biscoff waffle was made to perfection. Our server, Corrine, was friendly, offered suggestions as well as customer favorites. They have a predominant brunch style menu. Some of my coworkers had the butter glazed biscuits with sweet potato butter and peach jam, the blackened salmon BLT, crispy fish sandwich, chicken wings and spring salad. Sunday brunch with friends. I think a restaurant called Hen Rooster was at this same location. We had reservations and arrived shortly after the restaurant opened. Our table would have been great since it was by the window, but there were no blinds or anything to protect you from the glaring sun. It was quite uncomfortable. The restaurant was busy, so we were unable to move to a more comfortable table. We ordered: Tail of two fish, Biscoff waffles, biscuits, and mimosas. Biscoff-flavored items seem to be everywhere right now. The waffle was okay and wasn't overwhelming. The biscuits were probably my favorite, and I was glad the menu included turkey bacon and turkey sausage. My friends liked the catfish and the collards. The fried whiting, then the wings were the best part. If the biscuits were warmer that would've helped them a lot. I love to see the expansion and growth of this restaurant. It's come a long way from College Park/Beltsville days. This particular location did not disappoint. Our server was super friendly and helpful, and made us feel taken care of from the start. She also made the best suggestions for meal options based on our likes and dislikes. We ordered the biscuits to begin, and they were warm, buttery, and the perfect way to start our meal. For our entrées, my friend chose the shrimp and grits and absolutely loved it. I went with the Cajun pasta with shrimp and crab. It initially needed a bit more flavor, but our server brought out some Cajun seasoning when I asked, and it really enhanced the dish. Highly recommend that little extra seasoning if you enjoy a stronger Cajun taste. The portions were generous, and I left with plenty to enjoy later. For a drink, I ordered a Hugo spritz. 10/10!! With so many incredible sounding options on the menu, the decision on what to order was difficult. We decided to order the Cheesecake Pancakes and the Shrimp and Grits. Both were soooo delicious! Also got a spicy guava margarita and a watermelon margarita that were both really good. We sat at the bar and the service was pleasant. The music was good for a moment, but they kept turning the music off and on, so that was strange. We did order the peach cobbler hand pie and while I love the concept, it just wasn't great. I had brunch at Milk & Honey in Old Town Alexandria today, and it was such a great experience overall! To start, I ordered the Honey Old Bay Wings, and let me tell you--they were absolutely delicious. Crispy, well-seasoned, and packed with flavor. I would come back just for these alone. For my main dish, I had the Blackened Salmon with Creamy Cheese Grits topped with a Cajun Cream Sauce, and it was by far the best fish and grits I've ever had. The salmon was perfectly cooked, the grits were creamy and smooth, and that Cajun cream sauce tied it all together beautifully. Truly a standout dish. I also tried the Biscoff Espresso Martini. While it was strong (which I appreciated), the flavor fell a little flat since it didn't really taste like Biscoff--though they did sprinkle cookie crumbles on top, which was a nice touch. The vibe of the restaurant was lively yet comfortable, making it a perfect brunch spot. Service was friendly and attentive as well. There's a new Milk & Honey in the DMV, and it's located in the old Hen Quarter space in Old Town. I was in the area and decided to check out their Restaurant Week lunch menu. It was 3 courses for $25, so not a bad way to check out what a new restaurant has to offer. Milk & Honey's menu is expansive, and they serve breakfast/brunch, lunch and dinner. I started my meal with the biscuits. This was probably my favorite item that I tried. The biscuits are really good by themselves, but the butter and jam that they provide alongside are a nice accompaniment. I also ordered the Biscoff Espresso Martini, which is one of their signature cocktails and was unique, interesting, and presented well. My first course was the fried green tomatoes. I'm typically not a fan, but these weren't bad. The chicken sandwich is topped with honey butter and pickles. I ordered mine without pickles, and I thought the sandwich had good flavor, but I had to request extra honey butter as it was a little dry. The sweet potato bread pudding wasn't my fave, but it was okay. I think it would have been better if it came with a scoop of ice cream as well. My servers were nice, and the clearing of dishes was prompt. The inside is huge and beautifully decorated, with outdoor, indoor downstairs/upstairs, and bar seating. And they also have TVs in the restaurant. Overall, it was a good experience and I would come back to check out their brunch menu. read more

However , they have redeemed themselves with the Old Town, Alexandria location . JADE WAS PHENOMENAL and handled our table of over 20 patrons with grace and a smile . I took a star off because the service was slow at times but once you put your order in for food, it does come out pretty fast. Was really excited to try Milk & Honey. They do a very busy brunch, apparently, which is fine. I was shocked when we sat down and were told the restaurant doesn't serve tap water. We each had to buy bottles of water. That's insane. It was 90 degrees outside and we were all very thirsty, but apparently a glass of ice water was too much to ask. The waitress seemed rather busy, and our appetizer came at the same time as our mains. A bit annoying and crowded the table, plus we mostly focused on our mains at that point as eggs need to be eaten hot. The food was good, but one of our group ordered the Biscoff chicken and waffles with truffle oil add on, and there was no truffle scent or flavor to his meal. I got the butter biscuits which had a delicious peach, jam and sweet potato butter, though the biscuits were so buttery they didn't even need it! Back at it again with Milk and Honey round two in just two weeks. First time was during their soft launch, and let's just say... it was giving "learning curve." Fast forward to this week, and we came deep with a party of 10 for my fiancée's mom. This time? MUCH better. Our waitress Shanice held it down like a brunch MVP. Refills? Handled. Menu recs? On point. She even had us feeling like VIPs with that water-pouring wrist action. Now listen, I came with my heart set on trying the smothered chicken and biscuits. Been dreaming about it all morning. But guess what? No biscuits. Ended up falling back on my go-to: the crispy salmon hash. Still delicious. Still came out cold. But the flavor? A certified 9/10. My fiancée had the cheesecake pancakes (no strawberries... RIP) and some mac and cheese that was a little watery but had enough flavor to make it dance-worthy. Like, pair-it-with-fried-chicken good. All in all, Milk and Honey redeemed themselves. Service was on point, vibes were solid, and the flavor is still undefeated even if the kitchen is playing hide-and-seek with the ingredients. Serenity (our waitress) was friendly, attentive, and very knowledgeable about the menu, which made ordering easy. We kicked things off with drinks--mimosas, cranberry and orange juice, plus tea and coffee--which was the perfect way to start brunch. Since it was peak brunch time, I ordered the traditional breakfast plate with scrambled eggs and cheese, bacon, seasoned potatoes, and pumpernickel bread. Others at the table had the traditional breakfast with turkey bacon and biscuits, and one person ordered the French toast, which was a standout--perfectly cooked, flavorful, and not overly sweet. And yes, we started with an appetizer--the fried green tomatoes were absolutely delicious. Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and full of flavor. Between the great food, welcoming service, and beautiful atmosphere, this turned out to be a wonderful brunch spot we discovered by chance.
