We used to go to Boba Pub across the street from here because it was the only boba place around. Then Milk Tea Lab opened up. When they first opened I got their Taro Ball. I was sold. It had real taro bits in it, creamy and didn't taste like the fake taro milks that are sold at other places. It has become my go to drink there because I don't drink caffeinated stuff. Went there again on Saturday and ordered the Taro Ball, less ice and added boba too. It was sooooo disappointing. What I received was a bright purple (aka fake Taro probably from that powdered stuff), no ice, room temperature drink. I hadn't been to MTL probably since the start of summer but to have changed their drinks that drastically?? Ugh. Honestly not sure what's worse, getting fake Taro when I was expecting real Taro or drinking a room temperature milk drink when it's 90F outside. For $8 something with tip? Update (7-19-20): From my one star I give it a two only because staff there is following protocols and because after the owner saw my review, they tried to make up for it. I got the Passion Fruit Tonic w/ honey boba and it was pretty good. I didn't know what their tonics were, so I asked and they said it was like an Italian soda. I figured I should try it, since it's a little different than what I usually get anywhere else. They warned me about the carbonation, since it's a sealed drink. As long as you have a table or other hard surfaces, you'll be fine poking the straw through. Just do it fast, of course. I was wonderfully delighted by the carbonation and sweetness of the drink. I always wanted to have some sort of boba drink w/ carbonation, and it definitely was refreshing. I would imagine that the parking and getting in and out of this place is easier than its across the street neighbor, Boba Pub. It helps that this plaza isn't fully occupied yet. read more

I am #1 fan of Milk Tea Lab! I have been to all of their other locations including Poki Lab in Alameda. I am really excited that they finally open up in San Jose. The interior design of the store is so cute! I have to say it's by far the most pretty store. They also have really nice sound system like the pleasant hill location. As for the drink, the menu are the same, but the cup size are different if you notice. I like the baby cup size it looks really cute. The owner - KM was really friendly and nice. She told me that they are going to have a ramen machine like the south SF location later on. Will definitely be back for that. It's just their soft opening this week but the place are packed already. I've been here a bunch of times and really enjoy their drinks and popcorn chicken. However, I do not understand why they post rules to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 but don't enforce them? Rule # 3 listed on the TV screens and at the register: wait outside for your drinks. I was outside waiting in my car, and I still see people inside waiting for their drinks! Staff are going about working hard as usual...but no enforcement. Management, please tell your staff to enforce the rules if you're going to post them. These things do make a huge difference in a pandemic. I'll be clear though, the drinks are great and the staff is always friendly. Beware of incorrect pricing so you're not surprised when you're charged more than what's listed on the menu. They have a large digital menu with regular drinks priced as $3.50 but the menu at the register on the smaller screen has higher prices that they charge you instead. The price difference was minor but it is the principle of the matter. In California, the law says you need to give the consumer the listed price but they refused to acknowledge the lower price that was blasted on the wall. The cashier claimed the system wasn't updated to explain the price discrepancy which doesn't make sense when both menus are digital. This is an oversight on their end and I won't come back. Overall this place has really good boba in the area and their honey roasted milk tea is spot on but the consistency with this place is very choppy. Online orders get messed up and the correcting them takes a long time cause the wait is very long sometimes (but it's covid times so I'm not counting that) and sometimes there is either too much or too little boba and ordering online is not very user friendly in terms of getting the size you want. It's the only place open late at night so expect for there to be a line or big wait time and also during peak hours of the day. read more

THESE GIANT CUPS ARE ACTUALLY ENORMOUS!! Me and my friend decided to check this place out since it's been on my radar for a while and it was amazing! We got two drinks and the popcorn chicken (spicy) and Lab Fries with melted cheese. The drink I got was a giant mango milk tea with mango boba. The mango milk tea was very milky, not too sweet and delicious and the mango boba tasted basically like mango jelly. It was also super filling, I didn't even finish my drink in under 30 minutes like I usually do! The popcorn chicken was crispy, piping hot and very delicious! But the lab fries were a disappointment, the jalapeños bacon bits and cheese just tasted strange and the cheese did not taste very fresh and it was also kind of oily. There's lots of room to converse in here and it was super clean! I also thought it was super cute and cool that they had a promotion going on: if you spent $25 or more you could write a letter to your future self (1 year later) and they would send it to you in a year. But I'm unsure how long this promotion lasts. Milk Tea Lab has definitely made their way onto my top 1 boba places in San Jose list. I wish I had a chance to try out their boba hot pot, but it was getting close to closing and I didn't have much room in my stomach after ordering a Giant sized drink. We read about this boba shop on Yelp and stopped by to check it out. It is super clean and bright inside, and the employees are very helpful. We tried the strawberry smoothie with boba, the orange creamsicle, and the oreo smoothie. Although the flavor selections are a little more mainstream, the drinks are excellent. They don't have flavor descriptions, so I had to ask the cashier about some of their more ambiguously named drinks. I asked about the StarWar, and the cashier had to go back and check exactly what was in it. I decided I wasn't that interested in the StarWar so I asked about the Mango101, and again, cashier had to go back and check. Wasn't too interested in the Mango101 either, and at this point the line was growing behind me, so I just went with the first drink on their favorites menu--honey roasted milk tea with grass jelly. That being said, I absolutely loved it! It's one of the only milk teas I like, as I almost always prefer fruity, non-milky drinks. The next time I went, I wanted to try something different, so again I asked about a couple of the ambiguous drinks on the menu. And again, the cashier had to go back and check what each drink consisted of. So my one suggestion would be that I think the menu would greatly benefit from having descriptions under the drinks! read more

If the drinks would have taken so long, they should have given us a warning. They ran out of their teas halfway through. We gave them a second chance and came again a couple days later. We ordered 2 drinks with boba, and they asked if we wanted to wait 20 mins for the boba to be made. We said we didn't want to wait, so we ordered grass jelly instead. 30 minutes later, we ask them again. They tell us they FORGOT OUR ORDER. Around us, we could see many frustrated customers. I won't always take up the offer to come try again but they deserve 1 additional star anyways. Why? Because that's what we typically add stars for when we review. I got a chance to come here last night after hearing about the Hot noodle vending machine. They had happy hour drinks in the evening, buy one get one half off. I ordered the Mango Tea w/ Lychee Jelly, I originally wanted Rainbow Jelly but they were out. The tea was great, no complaints! Prefect amount of sweetness, I do prefer my drinks to be sweet, so if you're trying to keep your sugar levels low, I would recommend going with less sweet. I finally got to check out the vending machine, I opted for the Ramen bowl, there was also Udon and Pho to choose from. I tried to pay with Apple Pay using my iPhone 8 (both apple card and wells fargo cc), the reader didn't seem to like my phone for some reason, I tried my friends iPhone 11 and it read without any issues. The Ramen is great for a quick snack, it was about $10-11 and is ready to serve in less than a minute. For it being instant, I think its great. But if you have time, I'd pay a little more and go to a Ramen restaurant to fill your ramen craving. I will definitely come back here to try more drinks! Wife and I rolled up on a weekday at 10pm and ordered two drinks: one milkcow & one honey roasted milk tea (free upgrade after checking in on Yelp). Both 100% ice, 50% sweet, with grass jelly. Grass jelly was perfection. Drinks were solid, especially the honey roasted milk tea. The milk cow was good but I'm pretty sure it's just milk...so if that's your thing. We'll be back for sure. I ordered the lab fries without jalapeños since I'm not a big fan of them. The owner even answered my question that I asked about the fries within minutes. I'm giving it a 4-star however, mainly because of small things, like not getting napkins & straws with my order. Either I was really thirsty from the gym, or this was the best passionfruit drink I've ever had. I'm gonna go with the latter.
