Milkbomb is FUN! I came here recently with a few friends and we thoroughly enjoyed their ice cream sandwiches. It was $7 for a scoop of ice cream (!) and $10 for an ice cream sandwich, so they're definitely trying to push customers toward buying the sandwich. Nevertheless, if you're hungry for a sweet treat, their ice cream sandwich hits the spot! I was impressed with the quality of the ice cream. The birthday cake flavor was festive and I adored the butter brickle flavor! Everyone in my group was happy with their ice cream. The staff were friendly, helpful, and efficient! No samples offered :( so come ready to make a decision! Overall, Milkbomb is a bit gimmicky, but a unique ice cream experience! You can't go wrong sharing one of their ice cream sandwiches. :)
This is really good! When I came they only had 3 flavors left, and they didn't sound too great, however, upon seeing the line and the reviews I decided to give it a shot. The Pandan and Corn flavors were surprisingly good! I would love to try the other flavors next time I'm in Berkeley! Unfortunately they do not offer samples so it was a shot in the dark for me. I'm sure I would like other flavors more! I can see the potential for my 5 star review here.
Our son had been asking for donuts all day, and also loves ube and ice cream, so upon a quick dessert search on Yelp, Milkbomb was the obvious answer. It's strictly walk-up orders only and the menu is pretty straightforward. We went with the milkbomb sando, and you can pick one or two flavors of ice cream and then choose between an ube bread or a pan dulce. Obviously had to go with the ube bread, with ube ice cream and also fudge brownie to mix it up. Everything tasted delicious! We ate it with spoons to avoid the mess but would've been easier to bite the bread if you ate with your hands. It's definitely shareable but also not too ridiculously big to finish by yourself!
The ice cream experience was good- but nothing exciting enough for me to return to. Had banana rocky road- and it was more like banana chocolate chip. Not at all what I would consider rocky road which is always loaded with things like chocolate, caramel and the like. Flavor profiles seemed weak in the ice creams- definitely not the loaded type flavor overload like Ben and Jerry' style flavors. But I liked the lemon my son had which was more like a sherbert. Would hope that a small boutique ice cream place made their own cones, but they do not. Overall not impressed for spending $25 on three cones for the fam.
Parking in West Berkeley along Shattuck is always tough even on weekday nights. The shop is super small with no indoor seating and 2 tables for outdoor. There was about a 5-10min line when we arrived (5people in front but only 2-3 staff members working), but service was still really quick for us. Milk Bomb Sando $9 - We got (9.5/10) ube pandesal which was ube bread that was not too sweet and had a very nice chew to it. I liked that it was thin, so that each bite was a perfect ratio of bread to ice cream! Got it with half half ube and brazilian sweet corn ice cream. Single Scoop $6.5 - half half pumpkin spice and mocha almond fudge. Ice Cream Flavors: 9/10 Ube - Ube flavor was medium strong, but taste was a bit artificial. Still creamy and really good. 8.5/10 Brazilian Sweet Corn - Unique flavor that turned out to be solid. Corn taste was noticeable and not too sweet. 9/10 Mocha Almond Fudge - Coffee flavor was STRONG! I think it could've used more fudge for the sweetness to counter the bitterness of the coffee but maybe was just that scoop. 8.5/10 Pumpkin Spice - Flavor was a bit light on the pumpkin spice. Still pretty good though.
The aesthetics of these ice cream sandos are certainly present and salient. The ice cream quality and choices are top notch! I got the peach and mango with the ube bread while my SO got the mint with strawberry swirl. The peach and mango ice creams are worth it and the taste was immaculate. The strawberry swirl and mint tasted as expected while the ube bread was a miss for us. It did not add anything entirely different to the taste that my SO ended up peeling it off of his ice cream. Verdict is to come for the fruit flavored ice cream, skip on the bread part.
Read reviews and saw pictures posted on Yelp before trying and was very skeptical but gave it try. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the ice cream tasted ! I like that the flavors rotate and look forward to trying more especially Toasted Almond which is my all time favorite. For this visit i had a split scoop of the butter brittle and the raspberry Oreo flavors. Both were excellent with chunks of Oreo cookie and brittle. This is my second best ice cream spot and I look forward to visiting again very soon !!
Five stars for the ice cream and milk bomb (ie donut filled with ice cream, 4 stars for service--they are quite slow but are very nice, 1 star for the ambiance as it's right on university with homeless folks milling about and shouting right near the shop. The ice cream was so good. Both kids had mango sorbet and lemon sorbet--both were cool, refreshing and light. I had the Milkbomb which oddly even though it's their specialty, it's not even listed on their menu! It's a yeast raised donut that's been cut in half and filled with 2 scoops of ice cream, and then it's cut in half again so you can eat it like two sandwich halves. I had the cinnamon sugar donut with butter brickle and their version of cookies and cream, topped with some toasted fluff. It was so so so good. The donut was soft and fluffy and the ice cream was the right amount of meaty softness that you could easily bite through the donut and ice cream together. Granted some of the ice cream did squeeze out but it was so good regardless. No samples allowed but you can split scoops even the kid size! Will def be back if I'm in the area...
I found the recommendation for this spot on Yelp and really glad I stopped in. They have an extensive menu of different ice cream flavors and toppings so my first thought is, what flavor of ice cream would go well with what topping I might choose. I was intrigued by the torched fluff option when I heard it was burnt marshmallow so I ended up getting the salted caramel thinking it would go well with marshmallow. My companion got chocolate - which I think would make it even more like s'mores. I thought the servers were very nice. They were patient with us going through the list of choices and even came by to check on us later. They have a few seats outside, very nice on a hot summer day!
Love the rotating ice cream flavors, interesting flavor choices and all were tasty. We tried the ginger, marzipan, red bean, and pumpkin. The marzipan and ginger were especially flavorful. We got the ice cream sandwiches, the bread is very similar to a doughnut. The ratio of ice cream to bread is perfect, although it tastes best when eaten right away and the bread is still a little warm. Not a negative but just something to note - the sandwiches are pretty messy to eat, so grab napkins!
I saw my friend had it so I came here to get it too. First of all, the guy working that day is absolutely helpful and cute!!!!! We ordered the ube bun. The ice cream itself is definitely good quality. It's so milky and sweet. The ube flavor is authentic and thick. We also got the banana rocky road as well. Again. It was milky and tasty. I personally didn't like the bun. The bun is rather lame. It's not tender enough nor crispy enough. And I could taste the plastic for some reason. I definitely recommend the ice cream here, maybe not the buns. I would recommend that they can toast it for 15 seconds. I will be back to try more things.
This place is great for a nice dessert to share after dinner! The picture definitely does not do it justice but this was so good. Service was nice and quick as well. There's not a lot of room inside so definitely be prepared to stand outside & eat! We got 1/2 strawberry & 1/2 Vietnamese coffee ice cream in a cinnamon sugar donut. Both flavors were so good and the donut was chewy and fresh. 10/10 recommend

My husband and I were having dinner at Imm Thai when we saw the long line at Milkbomb across the street. We *had* to see what the hype was about so stopped by after for dessert, and it did NOT disappoint! The wait was about 15 minutes at 9PM on a Saturday night. We shared the Aqua Freeze, which is a (blue-dyed) vanilla ice cream with brownies, oreos, and chocolate chip cookies mixed in -- it was incredible and hit the spot! I couldn't have asked for a better flavor. The only drawback is the price: a single scoop on a cake cone cost $7.60. Note that Milkbomb does NOT take cash, so have your card ready! The storefront is tiny, so I wouldn't rely on securing seating. There are, however, two tall tables outside with a couple of chairs. I will mention that while we were enjoying our treat, three homeless men walked by, two of which approached another young family - they were clearly uncomfortable. read more

99 stars out of 100...only because their hours are terrible! They aren't open enough!!! Jkjk but seriously they would have a lot more of my dollars if they were open sooner! Hubby and I finally got to try Milkbomb! We made our own ice cream sandwiches and no I did not share!!! Well maybe the last couple of bites that I just could not eat!!! Best donut I have ever had (which was the outer layer of my sandwich) and let me tell you....the ice cream with cake was the most delicious ice cream with chunks of cake!! The cake was delicious and not soggy at all!! I should have gotten the whole thing with that one ice cream... chocolate brownie had me on chocolate overload but if you like that...you will love it! Hubby added the toasted marshmallow topping and was in love!!!! Can't wait to be able to make it back someday! read more
I really wish milkbomb was located in a more hustling and bustling part of the city, but on the up side there is always parking around here and if you're headed south of SF, you can definitely stop here for ice cream. Solid ice cream. I loved the torched marshmallow fluff on top of my Vietnamese coffee scoop, the sweetness of the marshmallow and the bitterness of the coffee really balanced each other out. Also, the Manila mango was super creamy and paired well with the Ube sauce (you can taste the Ube in the sauce) so I'd definitely come back for their unique toppings. You might end up paying like $10 for an ice cream here but for ice cream in SF, prices could get worse. read more

this place has my favorite ice cream donut sandwhiches ever! you're able to do two different flavors of ice cream, and the proportion of ice cream to donut is excellent. the donut is hot when you receive it making it the perfect combination melting in your mouth! the only con was that they completely closed the inside, so we ordered at the entrance and had to sit outside to eat the donut. there were only two tiny tables outside. read more
Finally got to try Milkbomb! (Dessert before dinner :p) Asian inspired flavors. Due to COVID too bad no samples. Got single scoop, split flavors matchavocado and ube. Ice cream was deliciously smooth, very creamy, and not too sweet (no sugary after taste). Matchavocado could use more matcha (it's more avocado-ey as warned by shopkeeper). Look forward to trying a filled donut in the future! read more

Went here after dinner for a dessert. Line was short, we ordered the ice cream sandwich with cinnamon sugar and vanilla bean ice cream as filling. Unfortunately they already ran out of quite a few flavors at that time. Really liked the flavor of the sandwich and the cinnamon sugar. Ice cream was good, but definitely had better before. Might give this another try with a few different ice cream flavors and maybe glazed version of the donut. read more
This place had a line out the door, so we figured we try it out. We really wanted to taste their milk bomb sando, but they only had ube left ( kind of disappointing). We ended up up just getting a flight which consisted 6 flavors. Not bad to share with others. The place is actually really small. No room to sit inside. Just a grab and go. After walking pass this business multiple times, I finally got to try it yesterday and it did not disappoint!! Clearly there were lots of other people who were happy it was open as there was a small line waiting outside. My friend and I decided to split milkbomb ice cream sando. For the sandwich we chose the ube pandesal with the ice cream flavours, banana rocky road and toasted almond finished with waffle crisps on top! This came out to $11.14 in total. We really enjoyed the ice cream flavours, as they were nothing like what we've had before. The banana flavour was really coming through and the flavour of toasted almond paired well with the waffle crisps. I am only giving this review a 4 star rating because I wish it had been a little bigger for the price we paid! Nevertheless, a lovely treat for a Friday night. Definitely check them out. read more
I am soooo relieved to find out this place is still open. I'd give this place 10 stars if I could!!! During pre covid times, I was here almost every week. I absolutely LOVE the owner!!! He has the best customer service and he always welcomed me everytime I came here. The inside is fairly small, so during pre covid times seating was always limited. But with COVID, there's just no indoor seating available at all, just take out. Also note that there's no tasting of flavors since COVID's a thing. After almost a year without Milkbomb... I finally went and was sad that more than half of their flavors were sold out. (Honestly, I get it. The ice cream is just THAT tasty). The ice cream sandwich is the bomb.com. Would recommend this to everyone!!! Yall every heard of Valerio's Bakery? I swear that the Brioche bread from Milkbomb taste like it could be from Valerio's Bakery. It's soooo good with ANY ice cream flavor. Not too sweet, but sweet enough. It's amazing. I love that they give out handwipes if you get an Ice cream sandwich. Not to mention the ice cream is also amazing. Different flavors have different textures, but these flavors are so unique that you just can't find it at the typical ice cream spot. Got an ube donut with 2 types of ice cream: butter brickle and gooey brownie. We also had it topped with caramel sauce. It was decadent and tasty, the ice cream was well packed into the donut too. However, the donut itself was dry and neither my partner nor I could taste the ube. Kind service, tiny, tiny interior. I'd go again in the area if I could justify the $11 price. read more

we decided to go here because it appeared to have vegan /lactose free options. But when we got there there was no vegan options available that day. That was a first strike. Then it seemed like it took awhile to get the ice cream scooped. Strike 2.Finally, it was pretty good icecream, not like some others I've had. First time trying this place with my husband. Parking is hard but that's all over Berkeley. Over all this place is great in quality and taste! My only down fall is that, this place is very popular and there was a long line with only one person serving while the other person was possibly taking a break or a rest ( which the company should provide in an off customer facing area so it doesn't get customer agitated over the long wait). For those visiting please don't be in a rush, take in the moment and enjoy! You can also do two flavors (which we didn't do but you can). read more

I can't believe I hadn't heard of Milkbomb before yesterday. Wow. This is truly quality ice cream! The flavor quality and depth made it a lot more enjoyable than the regular stuff. They're a little pricey and most flavors weren't available (I assume sold out) by ~6p when I went, but staff was COVID-safe and super friendly. My friends and I decided to share a 2 scoop cup consisting of Horchata and Good Morning Vietnam. The Horchata was my favorite of the two, but I have a feeling you can't really go wrong here. I totally recommend trying this place out! Lots of variety and high quality. read more
Probably the best ice cream I've ever had in my entire life. I come to Milkbomb at least once a week for the aqua dream because it's just that good. The service is always so kind, though it can get pretty busy during the evening times. The interior is very cute with small space. There's no indoor seating to eat the ice cream, but most people choose to take it and walk. The ice cream rotates every day, so it's exciting to try new flavors! Other than aqua dream, I would definitely recommend matchacado or white rabbit. read more

Ordered via IG by sending my information through a text message the response time was a little slow took about a month or two but ultimately I was able to order and get my ice cream delivered. I ordered the following flavors: Strawtella - my favorite strawberry ice cream with Nutella mixed in mocha almond fudge- really good coffee flavor generous amount of almonds and chocolate swirl mint cookie - big chucks of Oreo cookies so bomb caramel cookie crunch - a little on the to sweet side for me but flavor was not bad Ube - rich and creamy ube flavor A lot right lol , Took my family a few months to eat all this but we really enjoyed it the Ice cream is rich and creamy and the ones with cookies have actual chucks of cookies my favorite was the strawtella and mocha almond fudge I also ordered a strawberry cheesecake for my friend and she said it was really good and plans to order more. This is a small family owned business that takes pride in their ice cream and although communication could be a little slow we have to remember it's a small family managing this business they have personal lives as well and we are in the middle of a pandemic!!! so they might not be able to respond ASAP. ( be patient people) I do also appreciate that they take pride in their business and customer service and if something isn't right they address it and try to make it better. A quarantine purchase. 1. Still the bomb. 2. Milkbomb is currently offering free delivery in and around the Bay Area. Pints are $11 and quarts are $17. 3. I've ordered twice now. First time, I ordered a few days after they announced deliveries and got 5 pints. Second time, I ordered a few weeks after and got 3 pints. 4. They have a waitlist and some people wait up to 3-4 weeks to get their ice cream, but trust me, it's so worth it. 5. Yes, the wait may be longer than expected but keep in mind they are a family business and are hand-packing and personally delivering your ice cream. No contact delivery, of course. So think of it as delayed gratification! 6. They have a pretty lengthy flavors list and their flavors cater to all palates. Dairy and non-dairy. Fruity and creamy. All delicious. 7. We LOVE Milkbomb. We somehow "end up" here maybe once a week because their ice cream is top tier with super delicious flavors. My personal favorite is their ube (I never liked ube ice cream before) inside a cinnamon sugar donut sandwich. I appreciate that nothing I've had there is overly sweet, it is *just* the right amount of sweet We also love their staff - Marion is the sweetest person in the world. read more
Amidst the craziness of covid, Milkbomb is doing free deliveries for ice cream within the Bay Area! Text them your name and address to 408-702-5143 and you should get a reply within a few days with the available flavors. Pints are $11 and quarts are $17. Quarts are double the size of a pint but I knew it'd be dangerous for me to have too much ice cream. Although very tempting to order multiple flavors, I just got one pint of Aqua Dreams (vanilla with chocolate chip cookies, brownie bites, and oreos). It was really good! I love that it's not overly sweet. I'm looking forward to trying some of the other flavors, such as Strawberry Nutella, Ube, Cookie Butter Dream, Mexican Mango Sorbet, Matcha Cookies & Cream, and Mochi Matcha Latte! read more

The best ice cream and the kindest family who runs the shop! The ice cream is so high quality, unique, and DELICIOUS!!!! Whenever I am in Berkeley visiting my sister I go at least once -- who am I kidding, it's more like as many times as possible!!!!! I had been wanting to try the ice cream sandwiches with ube pan de sal, so I came back and fortunately they had it in stock. I picked mango lassi and cookie butter as my ice cream flavors, both are vegan. I thought the ice cream itself was pretty good (not bad for vegan flavors - I tend to prefer my ice cream with dairy) but the bread wasn't as exciting as I had hoped. I feel like it was more fun to try it for the novelty but I wish the ube flavor had been stronger in the pan de sal. read more

Overall this place was not bad and is an okay replacement for famous Ici ice cream shop that used to be there. The ice cream is on the much sweeter side but the flavors are unique and some have an Asian twist to it. They have a number of customization options including making your ice cream into an ice cream sando or adding a torched marshmallow fluff as a topping. Another thing to be aware of is Milkbomb does not do samples unlike all the other ice cream places. The day I went, service was really, really slow, so be prepared for a very long wait. read more

Can't try flavors and some of the them didn't sound like they would go well together so I got the cookies and cream + mint. The ice cream is on the denser side, which I personally prefer because it doesn't melt as quickly. Flavors were as expected. The cinnamon sugar donut was the least sweet option, but I think I should have gone with glazed because the ice cream itself wasn't super sweet. I wish the donut was a little fluffier or warmer but I understand that they wouldn't want the ice cream to melt. Overall, this is a cute little place to get dessert. Parking sucks, so be prepared to walk a little. There is a bit of a wait because they are short staffed so be patient. read more
Not all ice cream parlors are created equal, and apparently this popular one rests a key part of its value proposition on serving their ice cream inside a doughnut. If I was a young Cal co-ed indifferent to my calorie intake, I probably would've ordered a dozen and gone back to my dorm room to devour them in the dark alone. By the way, if there was any hint of a line waiting for ice cream, Jamie W. would have passed it by, so when there happened to be an unhurried server on the premises, I made us make a beeline to take advantage. We actually couldn't see the various ice cream flavors through the fogged glass. We had to read about them on the stickers epoxied to the glass. We both decided to get the $5 Single Split Scoop Cup. No cone, no doughnut. Jamie went for the combination of Burnt Salted Caramel Crunch and the provocatively named Pink Dolphin, a combination of strawberry, vanilla, and cake batter (photo: http://bit.ly/2RlOcsI). He liked it OK but it was in the realm of whelm. I went for the Ube Macapuno and Roasted Coconut for a double dose of coconut (photo: http://bit.ly/2u6a17K). Ever since this dessert shop opened in Berkeley I had been wanting to try it, as the pictures that I saw online were pretty intriguing and seemed unique. After having the chance to go and try it myself, I have to say that it's good and that the presentation of the ice cream is done very nicely! The shop itself is small with not really anywhere to sit down and eat, and although it can get a bit crowded the wait wasn't too long for the ice cream. The servers were nice and informative about the flavors that we wanted to try. For the ice cream, I would recommend trying the Milkbomb sandwich as it's served pretty uniquely and is good to share with someone! They also have a lot of cool flavors, so I would recommend trying a few at least before getting one. For us we got the Aqua Dreams and the Mint Cookie, which were both tasty flavors that I would recommend! The sandwich itself essentially is a donut that holds both flavors that you pick, and as a result the dessert becomes even sweeter and you get to try half of each flavor that you put in. For the topping, I would recommend getting the toasted marshmallow since it's really cool seeing them toast it with a torch in front of you! This place is a bit pricey if you get the Milkbomb sandwich, but the presentation of the food and the taste is definitely great! The sandwich is pretty filling, so it's a good dessert to share between two people as they do cut it in half for you. read more

I've been wanting to try at the San Francisco location, but the hours never aligned with my schedule. However, after a long awaited time of wanting to try milk bomb I can say the suspense is finally over! Their flavors are super unique, creative and freaking BOMB! I don't think I've ever been to an ice cream place that can pull off some of the flavors they do. I've tried the black sugar jasmine boba, Thai tea, Matchacado (matcha avocado), black swan (black and white sesame) and pink dolphin (strawberry and ube). Omg every single flavor makes me go "wow". The black sugar jasmine boba had small chewy bits of boba along with the right creamy-ness of jasmine milk tea flavor. Thai tea is probably my go to flavor. Has the right bitter to milky/sweet consistency. Matchacado!!!! OH MY. I can't/don't usually do avocado ice cream but boy did this change my mind. I can barely taste the avocado but my love for matcha mixed with the avocado gives it such a unique taste. Be aware they change their flavors pretty often so don't miss out on their seasonal new flavors once they come out! Be sure to check their IG frequently to see their new flavors and their store hours. Oh and I would definitely try any and every flavor you can when you go if you have the chance. read more

MY FAVORITE ICE CREAM PLACE EVER. The ice creams surprised me with how close they were to the flavors that it's named after, while going the extra mile to add something to it that makes it stand out from your typical store bought version of the flavor. One example is the Cookies and Cream. It's so much better than I thought it would be. It had the perfect size of oreo chunks in the ice cream. If you're trying to play it safe, I would highly recommend getting this one. They also offer desserts in the form of ice cream sandwiches, which allows you to choose what kind of bread you'd like and up to two flavors for it. I tried their doughnut ice cream sandwich which wasn't overwhelmingly sweet. The doughnut was fresh and soft, and went really well with the ice-cream that I ordered with it. I honestly don't think you can go wrong with trying any of their flavors, but my favorites that I've tried out and loved are mango, ube, banana rocky road, butter pecan, horchata, and vietnamese coffee. The parking can be tough given that it is Berkeley. But honestly, the ice cream is soooo good that I'm willing to overlook that. I will be back very soon! read more
