I love the flavors, this is probably going to be my go to ice cream spot on this side of the bridge. Ok so this was another spot I've been waiting to try but each time I go, they are closed! They have the oddest work hours. My girls and I were finally able to go one day after dining at Marugame but had to wait 15 minutes before they opened at 2:15 PM. We returned and there was already a short line, which didn't seem like it would be a long time but it took almost half an hour to complete our whole order and an extra 15 minutes for my friend to get her ube macapuno scoop. I ordered the sweet glazed bun stuffed with 2 flavors of ice cream -white and black sesame seed (flavorful) and a blue one that was not that memorable. The concept of the stuffed doughnut ice cream is really good and it tasted pretty good but it was not worth the wait. The staff was nice though. The jury is still out as to whether I would be back because there are other yummy ice cream places around the area where you wouldn't have to wait this long. read more

Wow I didn't know donut ice cream was a thing until I yelped ice cream in the area. The price is a bit hefty than your usual ice cream price, $6.95 per donut ice cream. Then there's surcharge for toppings. There are 4 different types of donuts to choose from, sugar, glazed, cinnamon, brioche My bf and I went 30min before the shop closes. We ordered glazed donut with 2 scoops of ice cream (cream horchata & mocha fudge) with fruity pebbles topping. The total came out to be around $7. Thankfully they cut the donut in half so it can be shared between 2ppl. It was a very filling dessert, the mocha fudge has a strong, coffee taste to it. The glazed donut wasn't fresh, it's probably due to us buying it around closing time. I hope the donuts are fresh if you visit earlier in the day. I highly recommend splitting 1 donut ice cream between 2ppl. read more

Welp... My prayers have been answered yet AGAIN!!! Milkbomb has finally hit the East Bay! As much as I enjoy their Potrero Hill location, I'm so glad that I don't have to cross over the bridge to have some of this goodness. Now, all I gotta do it take a short little stroll to downtown Berkeley to stuff my face with their beloved ice cream!!! I've said it before and I'll say it again; Milkbomb, you da BOMB bay-beh! No, no, no.... you is BOMBSY! Yep, that sounds about right. Geezus. The flavors! I love their flavors. Unfortunately, they didn't have my butter brickle on deck this time around, but they still had some delicious ice cream flavors. Got their Creamy Horchata and their Milk n' Cookies on a waffle cone and topped that baby with Frosted Flakes. It was the best sugar overload that I've had in a long while! Their ice cream is so creamy here. I love that you can add a variety of different toppings! They also have flavored waffle cones and you can get your ice cream "toasted" too. They'll torch the top (I think it may be a marshmallow coating?) and it's fun to watch them do it. They're known for their ice cream donuts which I have yet to try because I'm more of a traditionalist when it comes to my ice cream. But one of these days, I'm gonna bust out of my shell and try it. The prices are pretty reasonable and they have so many different toppings that you can choose from. There's only one table inside and one outside, but you'll probably be taking it to go anyways. They also participate in the Fivestars rewards program so you can earn points with every purchase. So stoked to have Milkbomb in the hood now! Super good if you love sweets but can be diabetic LOL if you get donuts and ice cream together I got the cinnamon donut with brown sugar jasmine boba and white rabbit while my friend got mango lassi and Thai tea w torched marshmallow fluff. The jasmine brown sugar boba actually came w boba (not sure why I was so surprised LOL) that was super soft and chewy even though it was sitting in the cold ice cream so kinda cool The white rabbit flavor also tasted pretty similar to the candy and both were equally sweet but not overpowering. However, with the donut, I thought it was a bit too much sweetness lol and the donut was also kind of small compared to a similar store Afters in SoCal that also sells donut ice cream. Overall, I will be back to try more of their interesting flavors. I've never tried Milkbomb's location in SF but luckily for me they opened up in the space that used to be Ici in Downtown Berkeley. Milkbomb is unique in that they're not your ordinary ice cream shop but even serve the donut ice cream sandwiches (similar to Afters in SoCal). Be warned that this place is suuuuper tiny with only 2 tables with 4 chairs to sit so if it's the rush you'll likely need to take yours to go if you don't mind standing near the entrance. It's an ideal location that is well lit & clean. As you enter you meet the ice cream case with your usual flavors like cookies & cream, vanilla bean, etc but you're also treated with another menu of their more unique flavors like white rabbit, ube, ube macapuno, etc. You're more than welcome to sample multiple flavors, but again the space is small so there will likely be a queue out the door. A scoop will run you ~$4+ and the milk bomb ice cream sandwich $7+. I sampled the white rabbit which is definitely an acquired taste but super creamy. I ended up trying the milk bomb sandwich on a glazed donut with creamy horchata & milk & cookies - YUM! The creamy horchata was delicious and obvi can't go wrong with the milk & cookies. The donut wasn't too sweet but it was sticky to eat so good thing they give wet wipes. I halfed this time but I easily could have eaten a whole sandwich myself. haha All in all, it's a solid option if you're craving something sweet and willing to shell out a couple more dollars. They have a great assortment of ice cream flavors & even donut options for your sandwich. Small, but sweet lil gem!!! I've had this bookmarked in SF. I just haven't made my way there yet. Then I saw it after having dinner in Berkeley a few weeks ago, so I knew I had a greater chance at this location. My husband and I saved some room after a Friday lunch date to finally try this, and it was soooo worth not stuffing my face at lunch!! We went there around 2:30pm. There were a few people getting their orders ahead of us and 1 person in line. We got there just in time because a bunch of people came a little after us. The space is really small, so I can only imagine how crazy it will get when it's busy. The staff are really awesome and super friendly! They greet right away acknowledging they see you and that they will be right with you. There are so many great flavors! They have traditional flavors, non-tradional, and even non-dairy. I usually go with the non-traditional flavors, but even then it was so hard picking just one or two. In the end we went with white rabbit and matcha cookies n cream. If I could have chosen a 3rd flavor, I would have also got ube macapuno. All the ice creams were very rich, creamy, and packed with such unique flavor! I think I have fallen in love! The concept is cool so yeah I had to try this out when in the area. Went here on a Thursday evening at 8 and they were on their last milk bomb. We were hoping to get a few but well...grabbed the last one ofcourse and split it into 2 flavors- birthday cake and rocky fudge or something like that. The quality of the donut and ice cream was pretty good. However, I did not like the fact that the store literally blocks your view of how it's made. I don't know it's kinda sketchy I feel...why are you like boarding up a simple ice cream and donut ? Also did not appreciate the fact that they don't offer samples. Don't let that discourage you - the wait wasn't too bad (took about 10-min), although if you are looking for a quick dessert after dinner Milkbomb should not be the place. My girlfriend and I opted for the signature Milkbomb donut ice cream sandwich ($6.50) with marshmallow fluff (+$0.75). Yes, it is pricey... Don't be shy trying the various flavors - they have a lot of unique ones and the quality of their ice cream is top-notch. For the sandwich you can pick two flavors and we got ube and matcha cookies & cream. While the ice cream was amazing (rivaling my favorite East Bay ice cream place Cookiebar Creamery), I would say the donut was just okay. In fact, I thought the form of the donut sandwich TOOK AWAY from the greatness of the ice cream! The donut was sweet and a bit overpowering. Plus, you get less ice cream in the form of the sandwich vs ordering scoops. I would say order the sandwich if it's your first time; otherwise skip it altogether and get scoops. Two scoops are the same price of a sandwich and you will get way more ice cream. Customer service was great. First time for me and my son to try a bomb, which is, in our case, a matcha and Mexican bun filled with your choice of available ice cream, sorbet, etc. We had the banana rocky road and coconut ice creams, respectively. Both fillings were very good and the bombs were excellent. They also have cones and cups for traditionalists. The only service issue was no samples, but the guys were very pleasant and helpful otherwise. This is the first ice cream store I've been to that doesn't allow you a taste. As for atmosphere, there really is none, since they did not allow customers inside for some reason. You could sit at their tables and chairs outside, but then you have to deal with those who don't respect that they are for customer use only and, the passing dregs of society, druggies and smokers. The area is one of the worst in downtown, so best of luck to them. I will only put us there if we're close by for somewhere else. read more

The ube had a fun bright purple color, but the flavor was a little more subtle. We also tried the "Aqua dreams", which has a vanilla base colored blue with spirulina and cookie and brownie pieces. I ordered my sandwich on a brioche bun rather than a donut. The brioche was lightly sweet and balanced the sweetness of the ice cream well. Park anywhere you can and walk on in. The further you park the more scoops of ice cream you're entitled to. Also similar to other ice cream parlors in the area, the shop area is very limited (including seating). Chances are it'll be a quick bite and go. Unlike other ice cream parlors, they have some pretty unique and creamy ice creams flavors. Among our favorites were creamy horchata and Pink Dolphin (strawberry cakey taste). They also have an ice cream donut, which was amazing. We had a two scooper and a dual flavored ice cream donut with toasted marshmallow on top. What a treat! Their ice creams weren't too sweet which is appreciated. It was also nice the manager rememeber who the returning customers were. Quite amazing given how many people come through here a day. For many working/poor, elders, immigrants, it's hard to operate on credit. It alienates people who are not in the middle class, who is mostly peoples of color. While I am not affected by this, most of my community who are immigrant and non-English speaking are, I'm sure they would enjoy your ice cream too! Milkbomb is delicious and the employees are the best! We originally went to the SF location and had been wanting to go back but it is far from us, luckily we found out that it was in Berk one night and we were super excited! We recommend it to all our friends, and were so excited to support a new small business. The only downside to this location is its limitation in flavors. I am not sure if they plan to expand it or continue to rotate through weekly flavors. They have donuts which makes it more unique, and more delicious. It balances out the sweetness from the ice cream well! Highly recommend for unique flavors and great service! read more

This place has the best ice cream in the world !! First time I tried it someone I work with took me there, I got the birthday cake and raspberry chip it was so delicious! Both flavors ! Every other time I have came I get double scoops of birthday cake you have to try it, it never disappoints. It has real chunks of cake that taste really yummy ! Ok, so I first heard of Milkbomb when they were catering for the opening of Everlane @ Stanford Shopping Center, and it was amazing then. It's even better now on a hot summer night when I'm sitting in my sweltering house and all I want to do is cool down. Hands down 100/10 best way to beat the heat right now. Although the storefronts are closed, they're offering free delivery to anywhere around the Bay Area - even to the South Bay, where I am, which is miles outside of SF/Berkeley. Yes, the ordering process feels a little sketchy, since you have to text them directly, but considering it's worked for so many people so far and that it's being run by one family, it's ok. The process from first text to delivery took about three weeks, which was a little longer than expected, but all factors considered it wasn't too bad. The delivery was free, after all. Can't complain about that. Ok: the ice cream. is. amazing!! Perfect consistency, potent flavors. I ordered one pint each of Good Morning Vietnam and Aqua Dreams and wish I'd ordered more, but my waistline wouldn't let me. GMV is a super saturated coffee flavor with a beautiful creamy texture. I live for coffee ice creams and this was hands down one of my faves. Aqua Dreams is a classic vanilla with chocolate chip cookies, oreos, and brownies thrown in - loved all the different textures! And the blue color made it fun, too. Definitely will order again! Being in downtown Berkeley, parking can be a little difficult but we weee able to find a spot going out a bit into the neighborhood. We needed the walk given what we were able to eat.... There was a sign for flavors of the day and everything looked delicious and unique. I was a bit bummed that not all of the donut options were available but it's not the end of the world. They still had glazed, sugar, and cinnamon sugar, ordered from sweetest to not as sweet. I would love to come back and try the ube pan and brioche! This is a hard-working, friendly crew. What you will find with Milkbomb is that less ice cream will get you fuller than the fluffy ice cream you get from the grocery store or other ice cream spots. Dense and packed with flavor. Interesting twists on traditional flavors and new flavors as well. To our surprise, I believe the owner scooped us our ice creams and even toasted the marshmallow on top for us. he is super friendly and asked what we thought and of course said it put the bomb in Milkbomb. The flavor we both ordered was the match cookies and cream and the black mamba [a mix of white and black sesame]. I can't wait to come back or visit their SF location when it opens to try the rest of their flavors.
