I don't usually leave negative reviews, but I genuinely hope this helps another pet owner. I brought my senior dog to Millbrae Pet Hospital because she had a deep lesion on her paw. Like anyone would be, I was scared and fully prepared to do whatever she needed. (My regular vet who I love and trust was closed). What immediately concerned me was how quickly the veterinarian recommended a treatment plan totaling over $2,500, including putting my senior dog under anesthesia. I didn't feel like my dog had even been thoroughly examined before such a major recommendation was made. When I asked what he thought was wrong, why anesthesia was necessary, and why these procedures were being recommended, his answers were vague and didn't give me much confidence. Since my regular vet opened the next morning, I asked if they could simply clean and bandage her paw so I could safely take her there first thing in the morning. Even for that, I was quoted around $500. That was the moment I realized I wasn't comfortable moving forward. After I declined, I paid the $150 exam fee. Then a vet tech asked me which medications I wanted to take home. That honestly caught me off guard. I'm not a veterinarian; I don't know which medications my dog should or shouldn't have. I've always relied on my vet to explain the options and recommend what they think is best, so being asked to choose myself felt really strange and unsettling. After I declined the treatment plan, the veterinarian made a comment that he had "made himself available" to me. It came across as guilt tripping me for not moving forward. My appointment was around 6pm, and the hospital was open until 8pm. I wasn't trying to waste anyone's time, I was just trying to make the best decision I could for my senior dog. The very next morning, I took her to my regular veterinarian, and the difference was night and day. They gave her a thorough examination, explained everything clearly, answered all of my questions, and the visit cost $148.50 - an adequate care plan cost me less than a half done evaluation! I walked out feeling confident that my dog was receiving the care she actually needed. I understand that veterinary care can be expensive, and I have no problem paying for quality treatment when it's truly necessary. However, pet owners are making decisions during some of the most emotional and vulnerable moments of their lives. Before asking someone to approve thousands of dollars in treatment - especially anesthesia for a senior dog - they deserve a careful examination, clear communication, and recommendations that inspire confidence. I'd strongly encourage anyone facing an animal emergency to stay away from this establishment as it seems profit was their priority & my dog's wellbeing was their second. Haven't been to this clinic but wanted to leave a review to hopefully encourage this vet to get better customer service. My usual Vet was temporarily closed without notice due to facility issues. I was searching for some other vets to call because my dog was stung by a bee and in a lot of pain and i was seeking advice on how to tell if he was needing to come into a emergency clinic. Any dog vet, or even exotic vet as i have exotic animals, would pick up my call and give me some advice, warning signs to look out for, and if busy suggest me to a partner vet clinic or recommended facility. Whoever picked up the phone did none of this. I was simply told they are all booked for today and that they can't give any medical advice without seeing my pet. Did not even tell me at the very least a warning sign that would be pretty obvious like "Is he vomiting?" seemed to not care about me or my dog whatsoever. That is insanely disappointing i'm dumbfounded by the man who picked up the phone. Didn't even say have a nice day or hope your dog feels better, TF? Hire better employees or give them more breaks so they aren't complete jerks when on the phone. Absolutely ridiculous. I suggest taking your pet's healthcare elsewhere. Plenty of better options in the Bay Area who are happy to answer the phone and suggest to you what to do and if your pet needs to come into a clinic. read more

I have a 7 year old feisty Chihuahua that suffers from seizures. I found Millbrae Pet Hospital in need (see below for the 2 places I went before MPH) as my dog was having uncontrollable sneezing for like 20 minutes and they were able to squeeze my dog in almost immediately between 2 appointments! The Vet looked my dog over, gave him medicine and built out a plan of attack if the problem continued. Really put me at easy... he has my business going forward!! Plus the staff/VET were really nice and worked with me in my time of need. (Check out their specials this month, teeth cleaning for $750, sounds like a deal, normally like $1300) Check them out San Bruno Pet Hospital- was my place for all things VET related, until today when I took him to SBPH and they said they don't take walk-ins.... really. What is the point of building a relationship with the VET if they don't take emergencies, they didn't even ask why I needed to see the doctor.. Never going back!! (((((warning all dog and cat owners beware))))) i have been going to the millbrae pet hospital for a few years now but now everything is different there,, they seem to want to give and prescribe all kinds of medicines now,,,i went there because my dog was having eichy skin and they said he also had some yeast in his ears so they gave him a shot for his skin eich and they put an antibiotic in his ears and it made my dog completely deaf before even leaving there clinic,,,so i went back days later to hopefully fix his hearing and the manager ( the heavy set big blonde haired lady) told me that i was being rude when i told her that this happened when they put the antibiotic in his ear but instead of trying to help my dog the she got mad and told me to leave without futher help so now i don't know what to do!!! my dog is now completely deaf now and this breaks my heart!!! if your an animal lover like me i highly suggest that you find a different vet then the millbrae pet hospital. read more

Check-in was quick and efficient. The vet was friendly and knowledgeable and address all of my concerns. We were in and out in 15 minutes. Under a new name and management since our last relationship with this Vet clinic. We adopted a new dog and needed an additional vaccine shot. We were accommodated right away and the process couldn't have been easier or more efficient. Our dog reacts around other dogs, so they were very accommodating and put us in a room right away. Super unprofessional! My dog is dying and we're not sure why. We went to a vet that gave us a blood test and determined he needed an Ultrasound, so we scheduled an appointment with Millbrae Pet hospital for his ultrasound. We scheduled it for today at 10 am. And even coming up to the appointment we were getting confirmation emails and reminder texts REMINDING US to be there at 10am on monday. Then we show up today and they had no idea we had an appointment. The radiologist wasn't there so we couldn't even get the Ultrasound so they TURNED US AWAY. Now we're looking for a new place that can give us an ultrasound soon, time is of the essence here and they were not prepared but we took time out of our day away from work after they had confirmed our appointment only to TURN US DOWN. They answered my email inquiring almost immediately. They told me I could come in anytime on this Sunday and they would fit him in. If you have ever had to put you pet to sleep you will understand the stress one can feel just trying to make the decision. So to see the Vet as a drop-in on a Sunday was a blessing. Pricing was reasonable and they didn't charge extra for weekends. It was a 15 mile drive but so glad we did it. They gave me a thoughtful remembrance of Mikee. 'The hospital is clean and there are two separated areas to wait with your pet. On this visit, they took me in as soon as i arrived which was a blessing to both Mikee and me. My 12 years old cat was diagnosed with mouth cancer at Sage. Today, one of her teeth became crooked. I freaked out and called a lot of vets, specialist and emergency pet hospitals in the bay area. Some were closed in fridays, others suggested me to go to emergency, and emergency suggested me to specialists (which are mostly closed on Fridays). I was a bit lost throughout this whole process until I came accross Millbrae Pet Hospital. This hospital took my pet in for an immediate check up. The doctor took my cat to the back for closer examination and was able to pull her teeth in 3 minutes (cat cannot go into anesthesia due to her light weight). This place did in 3 minutes what 15 other vets were saying they couldnt do. Price was also very reasonable..what I was expecting it to be around $2k ended up being $300 with medicine included. Most important he went step by step by step and looked out for our bill and didnt force unnecessary things like xray and ultrasounds or electrolytes like many vets do to run up the bill. Ive had 7 animals and 5 vets and i know when clinics are greedy. They definitely are a good clinic and wont try to rip you off, that how you build a steady clientele. The team there are very nice and work very smoothly together. Noticed things about my dog I didn't even notice and showed me what it is online, the doctor allowed me to see everything that he noticed, explained everything to me, asked for permission before doing anything to my dog, and allowed me to handled my dog to keep her calm since he noticed she was not being the most cooperative. It's that time of the year, Mila needs her annual shots, so I called up Millbrae Pet Hospital to snag a next day appointment and I was all set to go. Filling prescriptions here as always been a breeze, and can be accommodated same-day as long as they have it in stock which is always a plus. Since my last review they went through an ownership change. With all new ownership, changes are to be expected, which means transparency is very important. Especially for me, bc as I mentioned in my last review, Ive had bad experiences at prior vets, which is why it was sad to hear Dr. Ryce left bc she was a very good communicator. When I called to booked the vaccine appointment, I figured it would be the vaccines and that's it. Plus I needed flea/tick medicine. After taking Mila in for her shots, the tech comes out and says they need to conduct an annual physical in order to administer the shots and provide the flea/tick medicine. I wasn't happy about it, which I conveyed, but agreed to go through with the physical bc I needed the services. The tech returns and says they'll take care of it this time and we can do the exam at a later date. As I was checking out, they gave me the total and asked if I wanted to a copy of my invoice which I accepted. After reviewing the invoice the price of the shots and flea/tick medicine stayed the same. However they charged a $30 nurse appointment fee, which was not previously disclosed. I asked if I had gotten the physical exam ($82) , there wouldn't have been a nurse fee. This should have been offered as an alternative because it would've saved me money in the long run. This is where communication/transparency can be improved. Considering this was my first opportunity to meet the new vet, I would have appreciated at least an introduction so that we could start building some level of rapport with a client who's been coming here for 3 years. read more

I started taking Oso here last year when we first got him from a family member who couldn't care for him anymore. He was still a puppy and needed all his shots and to get fixed. My sister is a Vet on the East Coast, and I shared a photo of my Kitty with her. Unprompted, she told me it looks like the Doctor did very good work. Under new management, I have to update my review. Dr. Magrey and his staff are extremely kind and careful to address all concerns. They are clear and informative, and transparent about cost. They also got me in very quickly, and communicated effectively with me throughout my cats illness. It pains me to have to write the review, as their kindness and care for animals was evident. I did all recommended bloodwork with Millbrae Pet Hospital, and was instructed to syringe feed my cat. I saw that he was not improving, and called the front desk almost daily to check in about his condition and ask if it was normal. They assured me it was fine. Finally, I insisted on coming back in, at which point we did an X Ray. I was told I would receive a call when the results were in, but I had to call myself the next day to get them. Upon these results, I rushed my cat to the ER, where he had emergency surgery for an intestinal blockage. I was told he should have been given an ultrasound on the first day his symptoms began. As a result of the time wasted, his condition had worsened, and he had spent a week in pain. We were very lucky his intestine did not rupture. For a routine wellness check, or a minor issue, Millbrae Pet Hospital will take good care of your pet. However, if you suspect your cat has an intestinal blockage, or a time sensitive serious condition, you may want to consider a different facility. read more

When I was taken back the vets exam room, they asked what he ate and asked me what the side effects were and what I suggested they do for treatment. When I told them what I knew, which wasn't a ton- he left and said "let me google it." He then gave me the option of giving my cat a dose of charcoal, which would have him pass the foreign material or leaving. I called to make an appointment and their front desk ladies are always so sweet and kind. So helpful and understanding with rescheduling and getting an appointment. The vet himself is very kind and quick, you won't be waiting long at all and he is so gentle with the kitties. This was my first experience ever with a vet and this will forever be my furbabies vet. I'm a broke college student and their prices are super affordable and understandable. There is always parking out front or just right across the street.
