I recently came in for a haircut and wanted to share my experience. After the wash, cut, and blow dry, my hair felt really dry, which honestly surprised me because I've never had that issue at your salon before. The blow dry didn't give that smooth, polished look--she tried curling it, which looked nice at first, but the texture still felt dry and frizzy. At the salon, the cut seemed okay, but after I washed my hair at home, I realized it wasn't done well. My hair ended up shorter than I had clearly asked for, and there were no layers added. It felt more like just a quick trim rather than an actual haircut. I don't want to name the stylist, but she seemed new and may need a bit more experience--especially with blow drying hair smoothly and really listening to what the client is asking for. As a customer, I do expect a better finish. I've had really great experiences before with your more experienced stylist, which is why this stood out to me. Thank you Tanya G. For responding. I don't think you can do anything to my hair now. It's shorter than I wanted. May be next time, I will make an appointment with a more experienced hair stylist. Rick has been my barber for almost 10 years at this point, so I am a transplant so-to-speak. Rick is a professional and you can tell that he loves his craft. The conversations I've had with him while getting my hair cut have been some of the best I've had with anyone in any setting. The location has a parking lot and has plenty of parking. The amenities here are amazing - offering coffee, water, snacks, and a spacious waiting area. My favorite part is that they accept credit cards, something Rick's old shop never did. This is probably the worst. Went in for a men's haircut and was basically got cut by an intern or a trainee. She doesn't know what she's doing. They charged $30 for it. They didn't level it properly and basically didn't know basics of a proper haircut. Update: so I went back and the owner was really kind and fixed it and have a nice haircut. For Rick (formerly of Gene's Barber Shop) Rick has been my barber for a few years since he worked with Gene on Thornton. Although working at a new place, he is still consistent with his haircuts. I have tried several barbers but found none of them as consistent as Rick. Besides, his friendliness is welcoming and it is always fun to talk to him. I enjoyed the humor of his regular customers at the Thornton shop. I wish they all find his new location and start coming there. His previous two barbershops didn't really help transition well which were Genes and The Hair Spot. Tanya is a master hair stylist! I met Tanya at the HERS Breast Cancer retail store at Washington Hospital Annex. I was shopping for a new wig. She was very enthusiastic in helping me select a new wig. I had been searching for a new hairstylist for my hair and someone who could style my wigs. I was thrilled I finally found someone who could do both. I made an appt. for a haircut and consultation for a color change from gray to a medium brown with high lights. We discussed hair color, hair styles, and products for my thin hair. I left with my first haircut in months, very happy. Then I had my hair colored with highlights which turned out great, just what I expected. Tanya also enhanced and styled one of my wigs that needed to be cut shorter and tweaked the bangs. She's very versatile and experienced plus she has a wonderful personality. Tanya goes out of her way to make you feel comfortable and wants you to be happy when you leave her salon. read more

First and Foremost - I reported/flagged the two "one Star" comments to have Yelp Review them. They should not have ANY reflect on Tanya or the business! The first customer was angry that Tanya charges what she is WORTH... and the 2nd one was angry because Tanya charged him for a no show. ALL of which is clearly stated in her pricing and guidelines both in her shop and on her website. Now lets get down to the review of Tanya and Millennium Salon. I LOVE TANYA SOOOOOO MUCH! I met Tanya through a client of mine. We all went to the Black Light Run 5k in San Jose together. Tanya took one look at my hair and said I can help you fix this. I thought, sure you can. 39 years of curly dried out over processed hair and you think your just going to fix it. *giggles, sorry Tanya it's really what I was thinking at the time* So, I called and made an appointment with her. I went in thinking she is going to have to cut off all of my hair and we are going to just have to start over bald. LOL. I have NO CLUE what all she did to my hair that day but we did not have to cut very much off, she colored it a color that will cover up some of the dry frizzy while we get it under control. My hair felt so good when I left the salon; you know that wonderful feeling that only lasts a couple of days then your hair gives you the big ole Screw You and goes back to its old frizzy fried self. SURPRISE! MY HAIR IS STILL SILKY SMOOTH AND WONDERFUL AND SOFT AND ITS BEEN 12 WEEKS! I will NEVER EVER go to another salon. I don't care how much Tanya charges. I will work a 2nd job or a 3rd job if I had to just to be able to continue to go. She is MORE than worth the money. Yes, her prices are higher than others but you and I both know that when it comes to quality and your hair you get what you pay for. If you pay for a cheap cut and color... you get a cheap cut and color. I am so excited to see her again this week and see what wonderful stuff she comes up with this time. Oh, and for those that are looking for a "new look"... if you have an AWESOME stylist like Tanya... you can just let her work her magic and surprise you and you will love it every time. Like many others on here, I discovered the Millennium Salon when my longtime barber, Rick Gonzales, landed here after the unexpected loss of his shop lease on Thornton Avenue (Gene's Barbershop). Rick is a perfectionist. Even when the smock comes off, he nearly always grabs his scissors to deal with a hair or two that still doesn't look right to him. He really gets to know his customers, so every visit the conversation picks right up where it left off weeks earlier. The new salon is very nice, as are the other professionals working there: you always get a cheerful greeting as soon as you walk in. I met Tara when she worked at Fantastic Sams because my boyfriend at the time really liked her to cut his hair so I figured if she did such a good job on his hair then she probably could do a great job on mine. The first time I went to her I told her I had no idea what I needed done and she told me not to worry about. I ended up having the CUTEST hair style and she continues to keep up with it. I moved to the Peninsula but I still go to Tanya for my hair cuts. I have been seeing her now for 3-4 years and she is great! I did see 2 other stylists during this time at other salons, and while they did charge $10-$20 less than Tanya, my hair didn't turn out as well. AWESOME!!!! TANYA IS AWESOME! I went here scared and nervous, for one because every time i get my hair done it NEVER turn out how i want it to and two it cost way to much.. I called to get just a partial high light, i wasn't planning on getting a cut at all, Tanya ended up doing it for me, i explained to her just what i wanted the color and everything and she knew right away i was very nervous, Tanya was very helpful and help ease my nervousness! She explain everything to me, step by step what she was going to do and told me it may take two steps because of the color i had on it before the blond color i was getting may not pull threw right way... I really liked how she told me up front in stead of just doing everything and possibly damaging my hair.. And turn out she did such a good job the Blond pulled threw on the first time! And even though i wasn't planning on getting a hair cut i ended up letting Tanya cut it for the reason I trusted her after i saw how my high lights came out, and said to her make it look as though i never cut it, and sure enough she did just that!! and that was awesome because every time before I'd get a cut they would chop it! All the ladies in that shop are super nice and friendly, they will explain everything to you before they start there work on you, for sure I have found my permanent hair salon!!! Have not had a haircut in over 4 years my hair was a mess. Tanya explained every thing she was doing and why and recommended what products work best for my hair type. I have not seen my hair look healthier and shiner before, I had not seen my natural curl since high school (my 13 year old didn't even know I had curly hair) my hair was so dry and brittle my curls were just frizz. Tanya was friendly and extremely likable. I will be going back on a regular basis no more 4 year breaks between cuts. I should mention my daughter also came here she had Angel cut and color her hair. I got my hair cut here till Tanya decided to charge me $40 for missing my appointment. She keep telling me "you flaked" and "now I have to charge you" I tried to explain that I entered the wrong day on my calendar. I rescheduled my appointment, got my hair cut, paid her stupid fee, and never went back. At that time I'd been seeing her for over a year. You think she'd at least cut a loyal customer some slack. read more

You don't have to make an appointment with him like you do at a regular salon where you don't know what kind of cut you'll get or if you'll get the same one twice. Rick's convenient, personable and great to talk to, and you come in only when you need a cut. Rick moved on from Gene's Barber Shop on Thornton Ave. in Fremont, and he's a great barber. I have a love-hate relationship with my hair. I love my curls, I hate when I start to look like I got electrocuted. I like the color, I hate when I go to get highlights and they turn my hair orange. Then I met Tanya at Millennium Salon. She is awesome! She gave me a great cut and highlights and was very understanding of my past hair traumas. She made me love my hair just a little more. Tara is new at Millennium Salon. And I went to her on my sister's advice, because I needed to update my hair for my wedding. I have fairly long hair and wanted to keep my length, but chic it a bit. So Tara gave me layers similar to Jennifer Garner. Also, she streaked my hair. I dye it myself at home, and it's a medium brown-red, so I was afraid of ending up with these silly barbie blonde streaks, but she used a mellow golden color and used a treatment to keep it from getting brassy. She also talked me through ways to keep my hair healthy while still keeping it from being a pain in the butt. I loved it so much, I had her do my hair for the wedding. Again, a hit. Best haircut ever. I have very thin, baby-fine hair that I've been keeping long. Tired of the lack of body, I resigned myself to cutting it shorter in exchange for a little movement. I had seen Tanya 6 months earlier and gave her serious constraints, because I wasn't ready to let go of the length. She did a great job, so she was my first choice for this next step! I explained what I was thinking, but also cautioned that in the past, "layering" had been counter-productive in that it resulted in thinning out my hair so much it looked worse than having it all one length and full. she understood, knew just what to so and started cutting, consulting with me along the way. The result was a layered but still long style that holds body and looks great whether I style it or let it air dry. I couldn't be happier with the result! read more

I have insane, thick, curly, uncooperating hair. If I try to go into one of those cheap haircut places, they turn me away simply because they don't want to deal with it. I've been going to Tara for years now to get trimmed/layered and flat-ironed sometimes. Even after moving 600+ miles away, whenever I'm in town, I pay her (NEVER anyone or anywhere else) a visit. I went to see Tanya after hearing about her at my nail salon. she asked me a lot of good questions before she cut, and i love my new haircut and color/highlights. She also showed me how to style it in different ways. The color lasts 7 weeks and does not show roots. I think she is terrific. I would highly recommend her to my friends and family. I most highly recommend Diana Gonsalves as a haridresser at this salon. In the past 15+ years, I have followed Diana through four locations, and have been pleased with her work in each one. I regularly recommend her to friends, including co-workers, and would not hesitate to put my picky hair requests into her hands. Diana is patient, knowledgable and aware of the needs of the client and the hair she is working on. I have been very pleased every time I have gone to see Diana, whether it a hair cut, "roots" colored or highlight. Never a bad appointment! read more

This review is for Tara. I have been getting haircut from her since she was working at Fantastic Sams. She did a very good job at styling my hair. But unfortunately, since she moved to Millenium Salon, she still does a good job at haircut but is very unprofessional when it comes to keeping her appointments. I used to take appointments from her a month in advance and everytime she would cancel it close to the appointment date. Initially I thought she had some genuine reason but when it continued to happen for a year, I realized she does not care. It is very unfortunate that she wants to run her own business but does not understand the simple concept of keeping existing customers happy. I am never going back to her...I felt insulted by her behavior because it could be that she prefers high paying customers now...well if you want to charge more, atleast speak up and tell the reason for your arrogant behavior. read more
