She was really thoughtful and conscious about helping me grow my brows out, shaping them in a way that still looked natural without taking too much off and giving advice on what to do to get them where I wanted them. Eyebrows done here were fine. But went here yesterday with Marg and am never coming back again. For someone who kept talking about how much school they had gone through, they really botched my hair. Context: My (curly) hair was down to my shoulder blades and I asked for a trim said I'd want it JUST above the shoulders... my hair is up to my jaw. I had let her know before she started cutting that it was just a trim and that my hair shrinks A LOT when it's cut and she had started off with a chop of 5 inches from the bottom in the back immediately pulling my curly hair straight and THEN cutting it. My hair was left way too short and way too thin after just wanting a trim. Would not recommend for people with really textured hair :( read more

For decades, I have been using a hair straightener bc I didn't know what to do or how to do deal with my frizzy/curly hair. When I have gone to cut my hair I have requested the same thing - trim and thinning out my thick hair. She would usually straighten it which was fine but lately she has been gently suggesting Japanese straightening which I just don't want to do. I wanted to figure out how to style my curly/frizzy hair. So I decided to look for another stylist and enter Jesse. He listened to what I wanted and what I wanted was a trim and thinning out of my hair but to also teach me how to style my curly hair and what products to use. He also cut it in a way that if I wanted to straighten it, then it wouldn't look so choppy. The appointment was a game changer bc no longer was I was spending 20 min to straighten my hair in the morning. He taught me how to be friends with products and my diffuser. After almost a year of saying that I need a haircut, I finally booked an appointment at the madhouse salon. I called the night before to book an appointment the next day. Calling is always better than using their online system. They had several openings and I chose one in the early afternoon on a Friday. The shop has parking in the back of it but I missed the entrance my first time around. It's a one way in and one way out driveway on Thornton. I thought there would be an entrance on Cherry but there wasn't so I had to drive back around the block. The receptionist called me 15 minutes before my appointment to confirm that I was on my way as I circled the block. I made it to my appointment 10 mins early. There was enough parking spaces in the lot but there's street parking available as well. I accidentally walked into the wrong shop at first and the lady quickly pointed me next door. As I checked in, the receptionist asked if I wanted anything to drink (water, tea, coffee...). I asked for a water and then Nicolette came out and said she could see me now. Nicolette was great to work with. I told/showed her what I wanted and said I was open to whatever else she wanted to do with my hair. I took a before photo and then she washed my hair with r&co (I think that was the brand) smoothing shampoo and conditioner. She gave a head massage while washing my hair and that felt really nice. When she got to cutting, she was like an artist at work and we had some small talk which I enjoyed. It was a great experience. She really took her time to cut my hair and explained what she was doing and why. When she was done, she consulted with Daniela (the owner) who checked her work and made some suggestions. Nicolette listened to those suggestions and continued to work her magic. At the end, I ended up with beautifully soft short/medium hair with some inner and outer layers and subtle face framing. I loved how she thinned out my super thick long hair, especially at the back of my head. It was literally a huge weight off my shoulders. The only slightly negative comment that I can think of was that the hair dryer that Nicolette used was pretty hot. I tried to withstand the heat but then I twitched and Nicolette realized that it was too hot for me. It was completely my fault for not telling her so I don't hold that against her. I am so happy that I found this salon! The interior design of the salon in Fremont is so chic and homey, it gives a very welcoming vibe. The staff is also amazing; they answer calls immediately, or will call you back within the hour. They also call to remind you about your appointment the day before! As for my hair, I have been coloring my own hair for years, but I knew that going from red to silver hair would be tricky. I made an appointment with Esther and knew I could trust her the moment I met her! She's extremely patient and cooperative, and she's a very pleasant stylist to be around in general. I was booked for a color correction to go from auburn red to platinum blonde. Unfortunately, 7 years of dying my hair red made it extra problematic to lift all of the precious pigments. I had to get my hair bleached, toned, highlighted, and finally dyed. Thankfully enough, Esther was patient and treated my hair several times throughout the entire 8 hour process in order to ensure that the damage being dealt to my hair would be minimal. Jenna is amazing! I've seen her four times now and I'm so happy with how she has transformed my hair. I always go in to hair appointments not really sure what I want color-wise, and not sure what can realistically be done to my hair, but Jenna is super patient - she takes her time looking at pictures with me, explaining what we can achieve, and always makes sure we are on the same page. I have been thrilled with the color she has achieved in my hair! I also 100% trust her with haircuts, which does not come easily for me. She never takes too much length off and I love the light layers she does to give my fine hair some volume. To finish it off, she always gives me such a va-va-voom blowout with tons of volume that I'm left wishing I had somewhere special to go after my appointment to show off my hair! You can tell Jenna really wants to make sure you leave the salon feeling beautiful. As for the salon itself, I've never felt so comfortable at a salon. I have been on the hunt for a good salon for the past year, and I've never been able to bring myself to actually book an appointment with one until I found The MadHouse. Now, keep in mind that for my entire life, I've either cut my hair at home or gone to places like Supercuts or cheap Asian salons. I'm not used to getting treatments or having someone who knows exactly what my hair needs. If you've seen me in real life, you know that my hair is like a mane. The sleek, super straight Asian hair gene seems to have skipped me for some reason. When my hair grows out, it gets really -- like REALLY -- thick, wavy at the ends, and unmanageable after about 10 minutes out of the shower. Enter Jenna, who saw my hair and knew exactly what to do. She sat me down in her chair and asked me what I wanted for my hair. I gave her the lowdown of my hair history, and the rest is, well, history. Jenna turned my super chunky layers into soft, blended ones. She took the time to explain what she was doing as she was doing it. Most hairdressers I've had in the past kind of just hack at my hair (their comment to me is usually, wow, you have so much hair, I'm just going to chop away -- or something to that extent). But Jenna took the time to trim everything nicely, and she is amazing. Thank you, Jenna!! I think I'll be back in a few months for some color :) And can we talk about how cute the inside is? This place is definitely easy to miss if you're zooming down Thornton. Look for the rooster statues to guide you into the parking lot. This place has a whimsical atmosphere with a great Pandora mix, which I absolutely adore. I may be biased as more than half of the songs were on my high school playlist! The friendly, attentive, and professional staff goes above and beyond to make you look good. They pay attention to small details and make you feel like a real-life princess. Don't forget, since it's a local small business - cash or check only! The Madhouse Salon is on the corner of a busy street - they have a private lot with more than enough spaces in the back. Be forewarned, the entry way is kind of narrow and it's easily missed! They do have a giant rooster sculpture they bring out as a landmark for clients searching for the salon. I booked a consultation and an ombre/haircut with Mia for a Saturday morning on their online scheduling website (super easy to use - love it!). I've been wanting to dye my hair a dark grey/ash brown/light pink ombre for a while and I took the plunge. Recently, I was using orange box hair dye and it really damaged my hair. It faded to a very brassy brownish auburn/orange color that I wanted to get rid of no matter what. Going into my appointment, I knew there was a big possibility of not achieving the color I wanted in one session and I wanted honest feedback. Upon entering, Daniela, Mia, and Jenna greeted me with warm smiles and refreshments. Mia quickly swooped me up and go going on a consultation with the help of Daniela. They reassured me they will do their best and gave me a few possible outcomes due to the poor condition of my hair. Luckily, I was okay with all three possibilities and decided to proceed. I'm not going to go into great detail but Mia spent about 20 minutes on my consultation, 3.5 hours bleaching my hair, another 2.5 dying it, and another 1.5 for cutting and styling. The poor girl had to run back and forth to get enough supplies for my transformation. She was very detailed and made sure everything was processing correctly. With the help of Daniela, Mia was able to take on my hair and turn it into what I always wanted! Unfortunately, Mia had to ask her next client to come at a later time because I went 2 hours over the appointment slot. I was also embarrassed, realizing at the very end that my hair appointment wasn't a mere ombre dye job and haircut - it was a full on color correction appointment! Daniela also treated me so well that I couldn't even believe it. Like seriously, are you even real? The service she provided was so outstanding and she made me feel welcomed, like you're part of her family. In the end, I OWE Mia and Daniela a lot.... and I mean A LOT! I will come back as a loyal customer and give them my business . These girls are talented and I love their work ethics. MadHouse is a great little salon. I've been looking for a decent place outside the city that do a good job with men's hair. The salon always greet clients with a smile and complimentary beverages while we wait for the hairstylist. I've gone twice and their men's hairstylists were excellent each time. You get a pre- and post- cut wash + product and great tips on maintaining their cuts until your next visit! The stylists are creative and skilled, and they take their time so be sure to set aside some time for your visit. The name fits the salon quite well. You'll understand once you're there. But seriously the design of the salon is great and full of character. The men's haircut rates are on par with other salons in the area so expect to be paying a fair bit more than your average in-and-out cuts. Noticed the rate listed for men's haircut didn't match what I paid on my visits. The price discrepancy should be corrected. There are a few barbers/shops that are cheaper if you know where to look, but these places are usually overbooked and only worth visiting if you can get a specific stylist. Went here last week. Had a keratin treatment and haircut, paid $200. Service is great but not happy with the keratin treatment and I wasn't also happy with the haircut I got. Keratin i thought was overpriced. It was done in like an hour which is weird. They sort of just shampooed my hair with a keratin conditioner. I usually go to my stylist and do treatment in Los Angeles but I couldn't go because I've been so busy so i was hoping this one would be decent enough but I am pretty disappointed with the results. Since my hair cannot hold permanent colors anymore, I only have hair cuts done. I asked for hair products recommendation, Mia suggested hair products that will help my maintain my hair style.
