Not having done anything to my hair in over 30 years, I decided to take the plunge and get a vivid turquoise/blue. I chose to have Cam as my stylist since I had learned she was really good with vivid colors. So for my session, I got a luxe all over bleach (I had black hair to start) with haircut/styling and a vivid refresh (color). Cam spent a lot of time listening and understanding what I was after and also asked many good questions so that we could have the right understanding about what I wanted to achieve. She explained every step of the way and even made sure I was comfortable at all times, even when lowering the footrest of the hair wash station (every time!) I felt very comfortable with the process because she was able to anticipate what my concerns were - she reassured me and help me understand what to look out for, particularly the aftercare. tl;dr: Salon surprised me with a total bill TWICE what I was originally quoted! And they didn't even do a satisfactory job! Disgusted! I booked this appointment for a pick-me-up before my father's funeral, wanting to look good for family and friends. When I called to make he appointment, I was quoted "around $350 for a balayage" (I have a transcript of the call). Given my straight, fine, and short hair (just above the shoulder), this felt pricey, but I accepted the cost, as I had previously had good experiences at this salon. However, I was ultimately billed twice the quoted amount! This was my first time with this specific stylist.* I was charged for both a balayage and a haircut, but the haircut charge was unwarranted. The stylist offered to "quickly and easily" take some weight off the bottom of my hair because it tends to curl up. I accepted, assuming this small adjustment would be complimentary or inexpensive--not $300 for a few lousy snips! After the cuts, my hair still curled up, but I dismissed it as it wasn't the reason for my visit, and I usually wear my hair up anyway. Three hours later, the appointment was finally over and I went to the front to pay. I was SHOCKED to find that the total was TWICE what I was expecting to pay. I broke down, partly from all the stress I was under planning the funeral and partly because $600+ is WAY more than I would have EVER agreed to! I was really mad and someone came out (manager?). They took a few dollars off but it was still nowhere near the original agreed upon price. I told the stylist the most important thing was a natural looking balayage. As you can see in the pictures I took the same day as the appointment, she did a terrible job and the lines are mostly straight down my part with one weird area. It looks like I self-dyed my hair recently and it just started to grow out. It is 2.5 now weeks later and I am still SO mad, I can barley look in the mirror. I hate it! She did a terrible job and got paid good money for it. The appointment finally concluded after three hours, and I proceeded to the front desk to pay. I was absolutely shocked to find that the total cost was double what I had anticipated. I became very emotional, partly due to the stress of planning a funeral and partly because over $600 is significantly more than I would ever have agreed to pay! I was furious, and a staff member (possibly a manager) came out. They offered a small discount, but the price was still nowhere near the original agreed-upon amount. I had specifically told the stylist that achieving a natural-looking balayage was the most important thing. However, as the photos clearly show, the result is terrible with straight, distinct lines. It looks like a poorly executed dye job that is already growing out. Now, two and a half weeks later, I am still so upset that I can barely look in the mirror. I hate it! The stylist did a poor job and was paid handsomely for it. *I am choosing not to name the stylist because, as a gig worker myself, I understand people have bad days. However, I also know that money should be refunded (or billed the actual agreed upon amount!) when the job wasn't done--not just unsatisfactorily, but incorrectly. read more

Had a great experience for a transformative haircut at salon Valenti! I wanted layers in the front, but to keep the back full, and Pauline listened to my wants and executed perfectly! The haircut comes with a wash, and the salon carries the Kerastase line. Pauline recommended using the genesis line for my postpartum hair loss, and did a nice scalp and neck massage while she washed and conditioned my hair. Afterward, her haircut was done with an excellent attention to detail. She was kind, lovely, and professional! She answered all my questions related to hair care and maintenance. The salon gives an upscale vibe in the Mission (NICE) area of Fremont, with snacks and refreshments when you walk in. They also sell Kerastase products with discounts for buying multiple products. I was searching for salons because I had an event in the following 2 days and needed an emergency revamp. I called and stated i had thicker hair but just needed a trim..we ended up cutting off A LOT because I decided it was time and had a LOT of it. Upon arrival she gave me a tour of the salon and the product lines they offer. when i walked in, took my sweater and actually assessed my hair. She asked me a few questions and made suggestions as well due to my hair texture and what would realistically work. She took me from mid length hair full of split ends to almost a bob. I ended up getting 20in Bellami i-tip extensions in black and some platinum pieces and achieved the look I was aiming for.
