I had worked with Ben to find the right suit, pants, tie, etc., as well as a custom shirt for my wedding, when Ben called to inform me that the shirt we picked out together was no longer available from his supplier and that he had nothing similar. After going back to the store to look at all other available options, Ben suggested that I purchase a shirt elsewhere to get what I needed. At his request, I found the shirt I was looking for through another retailer and had it tailored with the rest of the suit I purchased at Miller Bros. When I got my bill, I was charged a $50 "rush" tailoring fee for the shirt and was later told that the fee was because I had them tailor a shirt not purchased at their store (even though Ben had instructed me to look elsewhere for the shirt). While Ben did a good job helping me find the right suit, it doesn't feel right being charged $50 to tailor a shirt I was told to buy somewhere else, especially after already spending over $300 on the rest of the suit with them. I'm sure we will look back at this time in our lives and laugh or feel blessed but it was stressful. Our wedding day was set for May 2, 2020 and we had done a year of planning to get to this point. I had ordered and been fitted for a custom suit in early March at a national Men's fine clothing chain. Soon there after, the Covid-19 Pandemic hit and virtually shut down our economy. It also meant that if we wanted to get married, I would have no suit. So, we were in a panic with less than 2 weeks to go and the retailer backing out. I called MBN after doing some thinking and Bruce and staff said they would provide a private fitting for a custom suit off the rack. It was ultimately the best decision I've made and will be a life long customer. They were amazing and got me into the perfect suit. I've been dealing with Miller Bros-Newton for over 40 years. I can buy anything I need on line, or at discount, but just going into either store, Brattleboro or Keene, is like going into my personal space where I am invariably greeted as an old friend, and never pressured to buy anything. But, when I've made my selection, it is nicely wrapped, but not until the size and fit have been assured, or if needing altering, meticulously tailored to perfection. It's old fashioned personal service that is so rare today, and this store is one of the last to maintain it. read more

Please don't trust this company with your wedding. I spoke to the owner of the company and arranged to have several men rent suits from them. My issues: 1. I told the owner the date of the wedding and asked him if there was enough time to get this together. He insisted that he speak to each suit renter individually, which was fine. I got him the information to do so. Twenty days before the wedding no one had heard from him. Many of the men took it on themselves to go get measured as they knew the wedding was approaching. 2. When I called to ask the owner about the timeline he seemed very upset with me. I felt like he was acting like I was a pushy bride and that I was being unreasonable. He told me he had a lot of other things to do. I wasn't asking him to drop everything, I was just asking for the timeline because it seemed to me like the suits needed to be ordered already. 3. When my husband went to pick up pants that the store altered, the owner encouraged him not to try them on. Again this shows me that he didn't care about us. He wouldn't even take a few minutes to make sure the fit was okay. We bought the pants at the store, they were for our wedding and they were expensive. 4. When my husband brought home his wedding outfit the shirt was way too long. We had to go back yet again. The shirt was the one he used to try on the vest that he bought at the store. The owner said he would make sure we had a better fitting shirt but he did not do so. 5. We had to go to the store to pick out ties once we had a swatch from the bridesmaid's dresses. We were told it had to be by Monday am. It was a holiday. We went to the store at opening and it was closed. Luckily I had a pre wedding breakdown in front of the store for about half an hour and by that time the person came in and opened it (half an hour late). 6. He insisted on calling each person who was renting the suits but didn't tell them anything unique (other than to get fitted) and didn't take their credit card information (they were each paying for themselves). When the suits came in a few days before the wedding I had to have each of them call with their cc information. Why didn't he just take it when he called them? He made me sign a contract with mine on it so he wasn't worried about privacy. 7. When we picked up the suits the ties were not with them. We had to go back to get them. 8. We ordered four suits (and some things for the groom). One of these suits was completely the wrong fit. We didn't realize this until the day of the wedding. 9. When I emailed the owner to ask if the suits were all returned (we would be charged if they were not) I received no feedback. 10. My husband bought a nice wool vest to wear at the wedding. The first time he wore it was at the wedding. By the end of the night the top button ripped out. We paid a lot of money for poor quality. In short I felt really disrespected. The owner, no doubt has had to deal with bridezillas but I was not unreasonable and didn't deserve to be treated as though I was. This was my biggest issue, but I wouldn't be leaving a poor review if the service was actually decent. We weren't even renting jackets. As the owner said, "this is really simple." But, this store failed. This store caused me a lot of headache for a relatively easy and small part of the wedding. Please just go somewhere else to get your wedding suits, you have enough on your plate. To be clear, I think the owner is a good guy he is just overworked and maybe a little tired of the job. Outstanding service. I had a suit which needed significant alterations and their tailor did a masterful job and completed it under an urgent request. The store is in a great location, well stocked with high end (conservative) menswear and shoes plus the occasional hipster item like badger products and funky locally made socks and cuff links. I believe in giving credit when credit is due. A week ago I went into Miller Bros-Newton to purchase a pair of pants and shirt for my Dad. He had recently won The Ewing Award for his lifetime achievement in music and would be attending the ceremony later this month. As he resides in a nursing home I was not able to have him with me when I made this purchase and as I live 100 miles away I was hoping that the store could take an existing pair of pants I had with me and tailor the new pants to match the old ones when it came to waist size and length. A very nice young man helped me and went in to get his manager when I asked if the pants could be mailed to me once the alterations were complete. In walked Ben Wichland... Ben listened to my story than told me he knew my Dad and how he always dressed so well. He knew how important it was to him to look good for this very special night. Imagine my surprise when he offered to go to the nursing home and measure my Dad so that the shirt and the pants fit perfectly. He told me he would have the items waiting for me in a suit bag, tailored and pressed so all we had to do was get my Dad dressed. I thought I was going to cry. In this day and age it is so nice to know there are people who will go above and beyond just because they know how important something is to another person. I have no idea why anyone would not write a 5-star review who has stepped foot in their Keene store. I've purchased goods at MBN for almost 20 years and have always, without exception, received superb service and quality men's wear. Dave, Bruce, Ben and Robert are experts in every style of clothing they carry. They start with understanding my needs and based on that and on how the article fits (or needs to be tailored - which they do expertly on premise), it's easy for me to make a value-based decision. Um what is going on with this place? I feel like in my life time i have never come out of a place more frustrated or more feeling like the owner or people in the store were trying to screw me over and or just not deal with me. I literally think based on this one experience i would never deal with again. The old man that tried to help us was so confused he would say one thing then we would follow up with a question then he would say he didn't say the exact thing he said... WTF The younger balding guy seemed to have more of a clue but even he was giving us bad advice that we didn't like that made us feel like he really didn't even want to deal with us just wanted us to leave. All in all a terrible experience. Listen if you are an old fart with a lot of money to throw away, go for it, if you have any shred of humanity you are wasting your time going in here. Miller Brothers-Newton was a first-rate business right up until the time the owner of the Brattleboro store retired and closed it up. His son has absolutely no regard for the loyal customer base so carefully built and fostered by his father. In such a tough climate for smaller businesses, there is no room for such carelessness. The customer base will ultimately decide the business's longevity, and things as they are now, it's not difficult to predict which way things will go. read more

This is a great place. I've been buying high end men's clothing for my husband for years, and the quality is top notch. This year I bought 2 shirts for my grown sons. Neither fit them well, and when I returned them to the store Ben offered to contract my sons directly, talk about their sizes, and send out the new shirts. The new shirts arrived to their respective locals (New Jersey and Texas), and both boys were very happy with them. That's service you can't ever get from Amazon. I had visited Miller Bros. when they had a store in Brattleboro. I worked with Bruce then finding something as simple as a shirt and tie. Not only did I come out looking and feeling great, I also didn't spend nearly as much as I was prepared to. Fast forward several years and I was beginning to look at suits for my wedding day. My mind shot back to Miller Bros. I knew they had a store in Keene, so my fiancee and I decided to take a ride over. Bruce was now there and jumped to the occasion. He not only helped us find a suit that fit well, but also helped us greatly in finding a full groomsmen ensemble for rent that looked great on our special day. The few alterations were done in house at no additional cost. After such an awesome experience, we sent my soon to be father in law to see what he could find. This is a guy that who had never owned a suit. Bruce made him feel instantly comfortable and even had him snapping and pointing at himself in the mirror in mere minutes. My fiancee rented pants, a vest, and shirt for a wedding. We do not live locally so had to send measurements and pick up the items the day before the event. The man who helped us acted like he couldn't be bothered. We noticed a stain on the shirt sleeve and, though they did have an extra shirt, he kept insisting it wasn't their responsibility to check the clothing from the outside vendor. The shirt was too big, which wasn't his fault, but he did nothing to help fix the problem - at one point telling us that he "didn't care and it wasn't his problem." We were both made to feel like they didn't care at all if we were happy customers. They were not friendly, helpful, or pleasant - in fact, quite the opposite. I haven't experienced such poor customer service anywhere. Needless to say, they won't be getting any business from us ever again. read more
