My wife and I live in Los Angeles and after we found this wonderful BnB by chance visiting friends, we returned for our 10 year wedding anniversary and will definitely be back again. A must visit romantic spot. The managers/owners, Jeff and Linda (and puppy Avalon), are so accommodating and think of EVERYTHING. Together, they make to-die-for food from scratch. Jeff roasts fresh coffee everyday from a local beanery. Linda's pastries are out of this world (recipes from when she had her own bakery!). Hubby booked a 4 night stay for us at this lovely colonial Bed & Breakfast in Odessa, DE. We had been traveling cross country from Las Vegas and he wanted to show me his childhood hometown of nearby Middletown. This is not a hotel were travelers just book a room in a large chain-hotel, this is an off the beaten path and an actual HOME on a small street with no sidewalks. I was struck on how warm and homey this place felt and how welcoming the Innkeepers (Jeff and Linda) were. We were even greeted by the newest Miller-Dunham resident, Avalon "Avi", a 6-month golden retriever who Jeff and Linda just adopted days before. We were shown to our room (The Commander which was clean, tidy and spotless with a beautifully spacious bathroom) and then showed the rest of the house and the beautiful backyard. If stepping out of reality for a weekend and into a quaint, peaceful and relaxing environment - this place is your bet! Evening was an enjoyable time to relax out in the backyard, especially when at dusk the firefly's start their evening lighting dances. The overhead strings of lights added a warmth, just making the place even more charming. Retiring for the night was easy, as the bedroom and bathroom gave hubby and I plenty of room to maneuver. Then settling into that bed, oh my gosh, super comfortable! I completely enjoyed sipping my coffee outside in the early morning sunshine and listening to birds where I could collect my rambling thoughts before breakfast and live in the present, gratified at the quality sleep that I had. Breakfast was called out at 8:30 each morning. Jeff and Linda work very well as a team to prepare and present wonderful breakfasts each morning and Avi was sure to greet each of us with her good morning smiles and tail wags. A couple of the breakfast mornings, there were other guests in attendance and Jeff and Linda didn't miss a beat in tending to each of us with warm conversations and smiles. They even took the time to modify their pre-scheduled breakfast menu for those who had food issues. It was wonderful to come downstairs each morning to the smells of something delicious being prepared in the kitchen for us. One evening, hubby and I walked two blocks to another historical gem, the Cantwell Tavern. We were given a discount coupon at the house so we wanted to check out the menu. It was like stepping back into the Colonial times as you explored this building. This was my first bed and breakfast experience and I hope now that this won't be the last. How can you not fall in love with this secret little place? You feel like this is a little like home, even with the house pet greeting you every time you return back. I highly recommend this B&B experience at the Miller-Dunham house and cheers to Jeff and Linda for making us feel welcomed and even a little sad as we said our goodbyes. We just came from our stay at Miller-Dunham House and it was most wonderful! Debi and Bob greeted us right away, showed us to our room, and left us with a welcoming message letter & card. We reserved the Provence room, and it was everything we wanted and more! The soaker tub was incredible, the tile floors had warmers, and the shower was giant! While the TV was small, who needs a TV when you're in the historic town of Odessa within a gorgeous historic house. Eating in the sunroom was one of our greatest joys from our stay. Bob is an excellent cook, and Debi is a gracious server. The first morning we enjoyed some breads followed by an apple crisp and then Japanese pancakes! The second morning we enjoyed scones followed by an elegant fruit parfait and then the most delicious homemade English muffins topped with avocado pesto, roasted tomato, and poached eggs. There are numerous birds and other animals in the backyard to entertain along with two family dogs, Pablo and Tanner. Our stay was lovely. I recommend making a swing over to Cantwell's Tavern for dinner. The couple provide a lovely 10% discount coupon to use there. Odessa is just a beautiful little town, and the Miller-Dunham House and its hosts encapsulate that charm very well. read more

Imagine if you will...peace, tranquility, comfort, quiet; song birds playing in the colorful back garden just off your left knee as the soft strains of an eclectic musical mix of Norah Jones, Diana Krall, Frank Sinatra, Debussy, Satie, Bach, and others lilt through the beautiful, comfortable living room and onto your shoulder as you recline in the even more comfortable sunroom after a leisurely day of local exploration; trying to surmise just how Bob will trump today's breakfast with a completely new one tomorrow; your wondering mind not concerned in the least that he will; making mental calculations to figure out just how you can make this moment, this day, this stay in this particular place last forever; if not forever, at least longer; lots longer. Suffice it to say that we enjoyed our stay at the Miller-Dunham House to such a degree that we almost don't want to say so openly, lest we encourage competition to our future plans to return. I don't give out 5 stars flippantly, but we just can't say enough about it. We ditto everything everyone else has said. Everything about our stay was so perfect, comfortable, and relaxing it defies description. I found myself taking the same photos of the same spots in the house because I kept being struck by how comfortable & relaxing it all was as if every time I entered a room it was all new again. Everything here is goodness all around. And we are certain you won't find other hosts so gracious, warm, and inviting as Debi & Bob anywhere in your travels. So if you find yourself on your way from Florida to Maine or from Maine to Florida, make your stopover in Odessa, Delaware at The Miller-Dunham House. What a GEM, this is an amazing Bed & Breakfast. The rooms are beautiful and very updated with super comfortable beds and heated bathroom floors. The grounds are beautiful with lots of birds to see as there are bird feeders. George and Carla are awesome host and make a wonderful breakfast. We enjoyed our stay and would 100% recommend. Absolutely loved staying at this quaint B & B. Bob and Debi are a great team. We had a delicious breakfast and loved the fresh baked cookies. Our room was spotless and beautiful. We loved sitting in the sun room that overlooks the beautiful backyard. We also enjoyed a great dinner at Cantwell's Tavern which was a two minute walk. Really cute town. Clean, warm, friendly, and a breakfast better than you would find in any restaurant. It was the best part of our trip to the Dover race, and we would love to stay there again and again. The bed was big and comfy. The bath/shower was modern and clean. It was easy to find, and hard to leave! I'm so glad we stayed there. read more
