Millie's Pancake Shop has a very rustic, traditional ambiance. The place itself is pretty small; only two dining rooms and a neighboring gift shop, but not small enough to hear other tables. The service is what you'd expect at any breakfast serving place, however given that we came here on a Sunday, I would say we weren't starving not, waiting too long. The staff were nice too. I thought it was strange that there were a lot of flies in the place. It's not exactly very appetizing to eat and have not just one, but several flies land on your table. Other than that, it's a decent breakfast place to go if you want a more "country" theme rather than the typical diner. read more

Expensive and mediocre food but nice waitstaff. My waffle looked and tasted like an overcooked Eggo waffle ($6-7), could have made a much better one myself. Most things on the menu are a la carte. We went early on a Sunday before the church crowd. Place is a little dated, but serviceable. The first cup of coffee was Luke warm at best, but from then on it was fine. I had the Breakfast steak with poached eggs and rye toast. A good value. Steak was a thin cut (also used on sandwiches) but cooked to order, hash browns appeared homemade from a grader. Poached Eggs done right. I was pleased. My partner not so much, she didn't care for her French toast, but she has this thing about bread being a certain way, so it might just be her POV. Service was friendly, but more like something you'd find in a small town outside of Chicago. Waitress was kind enough to take my card to the register for me. This place ROCKS!!! I graduated from Kaplan University and wanted to take my family to eat so that we could celebrate. I didn't make any reservations but called Millie's and they set up tables for us. Everything about the experience was wonderful...the food, the staff and the atmosphere. They took great care of my youngest son and sister (both have extreme food allergies) and we could not have been happier. My wife and I saw the ad on tv and thought it would be pretty good. Visited on a Sunday about 8:30 am before the rush. My wife had the French pancakes and I had the Swedish pancakes. They were unlike any I had ever had. My wife's and mine were very dry. The batter did not seem like it was right. Very dry. Service was good and decor was pleasant. I've literally been going to this place for over 45 years. My parents used to take us to Millie's when I was a very small child. The place has barely changed a bit over the years. It was always such a treat for us to go and was exciting for us as children to browse the gift shop. (or should I say Shoppe.) The food, the service, the atmosphere has ALWAYS been top notch! I highly recommend this place. But if you go, don't be boring and get eggs, get the pancakes. It's a pancake shop after all. My only problem with this place, is trying to decide what kind of pancakes to get. They're ALL great!!! The only thing I miss at Millie's is the nice lady (don't know her name) that was ALWAYS at the door seating people. She has since passed away but I will always have very fond memories of her and can still picture her smiling face to this day. read more

I saw on Chicago's Best Millie's German Dutch pancake. We called in an order for pick up, the girl on the phone asked if we wanted strawberries or blueberries, we said "no". The menu says "large pancake filled with cinnamon-spiced apples, $9.30 the next line is strawberries or blueberries $9.80. We picked up the order, it looked great, but no apples. Not one. I called, the girl on the phone said "it doesn't come with apples" I said "your menu says it does" and she said "well on take out orders we put them on the side because they would get soggy" I said "I didn't get ANY apples" she said "well, maybe next time you'll order it correctly." Wow, just wow. Really? She didn't say "oh, no fruit at all?" or "you want that plain?" your menu says FILLED with apples. read more

We are third generation Millie's customers which is a good and a bad thing. The food quality and taste has been delicious for decades. The only complaint I have is that the portion size on the potato pancake entree has declined over the years. The pancakes have gotten smaller in diameter as well as in thickness. Potatoes are not expensive so this should be generous not leave you hungry. Literally everything else on the menu is outstanding and their specials are creative and tasty. And the staff have always been attentive and timely when we visit so I am not sure why they have gotten some low scores on that. read more

This was epic. Old school. Fun little gift shop on the side. Delicious brunch food. Breakfast Croissant was fabulous. Kids ate from the really reasonable kids menu. I would give them a 0 if I could. Went there this morning. My sister got there first and they seated her. No offer of coffee/water. I arrived and was seated with my sister immediately. We waited for coffee. We waited for the waitress. The people sitting next to us who had arrived about 5 minutes after us, were given coffee and had their order taken within 5 minutes. We were still waiting. Finally, I asked a busboy for our waitress and she arrived at the table next to us to take their order. The gentleman said that we were the ones waiting for the waitress. Her excuse was she had her tables confused. Ok...fair enough. She took our order, breakfast came and went without another interaction with her. The busboy topped off our coffee one time. We had to ask for the bill and that is when she asked if we wanted more coffee,...which she had provided freely to the table of 4 sitting on the other side of us. She never even turned around. Bigger table.....bigger tip potential?? The food was terrible. The croissant for me and pancakes for my sister. My sister went to talk to the hostess prior to paying the bill. The hostess listened and her excuse was that it was busy. My brother in law is in the restaurant business so we are not infants to restaurants. I would have thought that the hostess would have offered to comp some portion of the 20 buck bill,....she asked what we would like to do. If as a hostess you can't figure it out...then you are in the wrong business.
