Love their classes!…read more We've been going to the gymnastics class for about a year. Our two year LOVES the classes. They have the same structure for the class but 3 different skills each week. The teachers are knowledgeable and take interest in getting to the children. The teachers are very gentle with the children as they learn new skills. Each class starts and ends with circle time and song. The little gym offers gymnastics for many ages, dance classes and an introductory sports class. There is a monthly duplo LEGO night. We have not been but they look like a lot of fun. Some of the classes can be a little crowded but overall we will continue classes at the little gym!

The list of things I love about this place is a long one. The thing that inspired me to finally write this review was watching Miss Sue talk to the kids about Fire Safety Week at class tonight. Not only did she give a short presentation on fire safety that held every little kid spellbound, the activities for the kids all incorporated aspects of fire safety. Their activities included practicing "stop, drop, and roll", staying low to crawl out of a smoky room, and climbing up and down ladders in addition to the usual basic gymnastics skills. The preschool gym area was decorated with stuffed dalmations and pretend 'fires" made of crepe paper. I can't even begin to describe the way the gym is transformed for Halloween, Christmas, and Easter! They really put a lot of effort into making it special for the kids. My daughter started here in a parent-child class when she was a toddler. The preschool classes use circuits made up of various equipment for climbing, rolling, balancing, swinging, etc. so every child is doing something all the time. There's very little waiting for the next activity, and they don't get bored. Every class also includes a short teacher-led group activity, and finishes with a good-bye song and a sticker for each kid. It's consistent every week and my kids love it! My son isn't the strongest or most coordinated kid on the planet, but I'm so incredibly pleased with the progress he's made since he's been coming here. I've watched his strength and agility increase by the week, and I believe that the self-confidence he's acquired here will positively effect the way he views exercise for the rest of his life. The patience and support of FGC's instructors has made all the difference. They also have classes for the older kids and several levels of competitive gymnastics teams. I don't know much about those since my kids are still too young for that, but I know that one of their former students is now on the gymnastics team at U of M, so it appears that they have the experience and knowledge to produce champions.

Our experience renting this facility for my daughter's prom send-off was extremely disappointing…read moreand left what should have been a joyful celebration overshadowed by unprofessional and hostile treatment from staff. The primary issue involved a male staff member, Tyriek. After a hostile interaction with him, I made it clear that I preferred to communicate through his coworker, Christine, who was professional, respectful, and fully capable of answering any questions we had. Rather than respecting that request, Tyriek continued to approach me and repeatedly took issue with the fact that I chose not to communicate directly with him. I repeatedly explained that our communication was not effective or productive and that Christine was successfully handling all communication. Despite this, Tyriek stated that because I would not speak with him, he would be contacting the Director. When Theresa, the Director of Leisure Services, arrived, she immediately instructed me to step aside and speak with her privately. Rather than asking what had occurred or attempting to understand both sides of the situation, she immediately informed me that I was required to interact with Tyriek and be respectful to him. I explained that after feeling repeatedly disrespected and spoken to in a demeaning manner, I preferred not to communicate with him and would instead continue working through Christine. Theresa then threatened to cancel my daughter's event if I did not "listen to him." I specifically asked what rules we were violating. Neither Theresa nor Tyriek could identify any actual rule that had been broken. Instead, Theresa referenced things that could potentially happen. For example, she mentioned the possibility of music being too loud, despite the fact that we had not previously been asked to lower it. Once she did make that request, we complied immediately. She also stated that guests could not enter through the garage doors, while simultaneously acknowledging that guests were being redirected to the front entrance exactly as we had been instructed. At no point was I provided with a clear example of a rule that had actually been violated. Despite this, the situation continued to be escalated unnecessarily. I was also troubled when two additional staff members were assigned to monitor our event. Given that no rules had been broken, no disturbances occurred, and our guests were cooperative throughout the evening, this level of scrutiny felt unnecessary and made our family and guests feel unwelcome. After the event, we left the facility spotless. When I later called regarding the status of my deposit, Sam informed me that it would be returned by mail and that we would not be permitted to rent the facility again due to the "commotion." Considering that the issues stemmed from staff escalating a situation that could have easily been resolved by allowing communication to continue through another staff member, I found that explanation disappointing. I would like to acknowledge Christine, who remained professional, courteous, and helpful throughout the entire process. Fortunately, we will be receiving our full deposit back, which confirms that the facility was left in excellent condition and that no damage or misconduct occurred during our event. While I was informed that we would not be allowed to rent the facility again, I can honestly say that after this experience, I have no intention of doing so. What should have been a memorable celebration for my daughter became stressful and unpleasant due to the conduct of certain staff members. Based on our experience, I would not recommend this facility.
