Long time local gem. Clean, friendly servers and good food with endless variety. Great desserts too.

I really don't get it. Why is this place still open? I really don't understand. Measuring by other places similar, this place should have been closed months ago, if not years. I have to wonder what kind of life support is keeping the doors open and lights on. So let's begin with what's good. As others pointed out, the staff is very cordial, warm, and welcoming. This, in itself is a Herculean task, given everything else. As you walk through the front door, the first thing that you may notice, is decor, which appears to have not been updated since 1975. In their favor, at least everything appears to be clean. However, the food is, sad, bland, and sub-pedestrian. There is absolutely nothing exciting about it, and is aimed mainly towards an over-sixty demographic. Seriously, that's the best that can be said of the entire menu. Essentially, my advice is to keep on driving. Don't waste your money on what will be a disappointing meal. read more

It's just so plain. I can see it being good for black coffee with a friend but skip the food.

So glad we stumbled upon this hidden little gem! If we were local, we would eat here all the time! It's a great family-owned restaurant and the quality really shows in the service, cleanliness and taste of the food. Our waitress ARICKA FISHER was amazing! Super attentive and friendly, so make sure and ask for her for great service. The owner Angelo was also so welcoming, he made us feel so welcome and like part of the family. This is a family restaurant with a huge salad bar. The menu has a wide variety to choose from. There are fried chicken livers and beef liver that the older generation like. The staff and manager treat you well and are very friendly. The decor is outdated and basic, but no worries if your kid spills the drink! read more

My husband and I had breakfast at this wonderful restaurant this morning. I'm not sure which we enjoyed most the delicious food or the awesome staff. This place is a living picture of southern hospitality and charm. The wait staff talked to their customers like family and knew "their usual" orders like friends entertaining friends. This restaurant is a short drive from the Asheville Airport - My flight arrived at 3, so we decided to have a late lunch, early dinner at this restaurant. I had eaten there before and knew the food could be very good or not so good. I ordered the Monday special - fried jumbo shrimp and flounder with fries. My husband ordered a sirloin steak. The waitress brought my order with a baked potato, so I asked if she could switch it for the fries I had ordered. She was accommodating but did not apologize. It took several minutes and she did let me know they were having to cook the fries. When she brought my plate, I the noticed I had popcorn shrimp instead of the jumbo shrimp. The special came with slaw, and I had to ask for it - the waitress was again accommodating but no apology. My husband said his steak was good, however his baked potato tasted like it was left over from the day before. It was so bad, that he was unable to eat it. My food was ok, not delicious, but I would rate it ok - the service could certainly improve. It will be sometime before I eat there again. read more

I would give no stars if I could. The elderly owner is a very unpleasant, crotchety person. His son is a little better, but unfortunately his father has rubbed off on him too. We came up to the counter, the elderly owner was there and he spent over 5 minutes working on a pen that was broken and didnt acknowledge us whatsoever. You come in he never smiles at you. If you desire slightly finer dining, you will be disappointed. The desserts are a must to avoid, especially the completely characterless "Baklava." Ours arrived swimming in cloyingly-sweet syrup, and the soggy phyllo was faintly redolent of stale refrigerator. Clearly brushed with shortening, not butter, the ample layers of dough stood in for what should have been a thick layer of walnuts and/or pistachios. There was a thin layer of something that could have been nuts, but I couldn't tell. Not likely that the usual crowd would have even noticed, or cared, but it's not for me. read more

A customer who saw us actually got up from their table to let the staff know we were at the door. Wifes over-easy eggs were swimming in grease. My breakfast potatoes looked and tasted boiled, then were smushed and fried, but not long enough. Ugh! These problems can be fixed with new management and chef, but we both used the bathrooms and they were both dirty. Sorry, we WILL NOT be going back. This place is AMAZING! I brought my children in for dinner and my autistic child had a meltdown. This place gets more than one star because I liked my dish (I got the chicken gyro platter), but unfortunately it deserves no more because the dish that my boyfriend ate (Romano chicken) made him terribly ill. He almost *never* vomits (like, I've known him for a decade and I've never seen him puke)... but after visiting this joint, projectile spewing occured people, and not just from one end. We were camping when the shit went down (quite literally)... so you can just imagine the mess that that catastrophe of a dish caused. Great meal and overall experience for a late breakfast this morning. LaVonya is a server who makes the whole experience elevated from just a great meal to a fun personal one! She asks everyone's name and remembers throughout the meal. If you go - and you should- make sure you ask for her as your waitress! All the food was well executed and portions generous. My boyfriend and I first discovered this restaurant while on vacation in April. We ate there three times that week and once again when we returned in November. The building is definitely dated and could use some remodeling, but it's clean. The menu offers a very wide variety of food options. Everything we've ever ordered has been delicious. Food is plentiful and inexpensive. My boyfriend loves the pork chops and I love the pastitsio. My picky sister had the pulled pork and she liked it. The salad bar is awesome. I particularly like the pasta and fried pita chips with salsa. The management is probably what will send this business into trouble. While I haven't found the owners to be rude as others have noted, they definitely aren't friendly. It could be a culture difference, but in the South, we expect hospitality. I definitely get the feeling that the waitresses are not fond of the owners or their son. The owner's son snapped at one of the waitresses in the middle of the restaurant during a very busy lunch rush hour, criticizing her like she was a two year old. They seem to handle a large crowd very well. Food is delicious and service is quick so we'll be back. read more

The French fries were the only edible thing on my platter. Management was screaming at his workers, salmon was over cooked to the point it was super chewy and the coleslaw was super bitter. Salmon was 14$ and probably the worst salmon I have ever eaten. Charged 8$ just to get a salad at the salad bar because nothing else up there looked edible. I have eaten at this establishment a few times over the past many years and have always enjoyed the food and service however yesterday (7-31-2021) was my last visit. I was disgusted to witness a "man", who was identified to me by an employee as the owner, yelling at, cursing at, and intimidating a very young female employee. She was crying and whimpering for him to "please stop" but he continued to degrade her in front of most of the restaurant patrons and employees. If this is how he treats his employees, women, or people in general I will never support his business again. I would encourage this young lady that was the target of his attack to immediately seek employment elsewhere. Everyone is hiring! Right down the road from where i live. This gets 5 stars because it is an authentic southern type dinner PLUS they have some surprising Greek dishes sprinkled into their very diverse menu. Not fancy. I had always been told to try this place. I did. Never again. The staff are nice but that's about it. The food here is possibly some of the worst I've had in the area. Nothing tasted fresh. I had fried chicken. It was greasy, mushy, and for some reason my breast was butterflied open. It hadn't been drained to keep its texture. The mashed potatoes...oh my Irish heart breaks. I've never had mashed potatoes with literally no flavor. I don't mean like it was bland. I mean you could only tell you had anything in your mouth by the gritty and lumpy texture of whatever this was. The brown gravy was just as bad. What's going on in the kitchen? I think it may be partially because of the MASSIVE MENU! Please get rid of all the stuff you're not selling so someone doesn't accidentally get something that's been sitting in the walk in for 2 months. The popcorn shrimp was obviously frozen as were the fries. Cesar salad has croutons on it that are actually just toasted bread cut into pieces. So crazy. We ate Sunday lunch here today. I had the roast turkey and dressing. Hubby had the roast chicken. Food was super delicious. Turkey was as good as homemade. His chicken was half a chicken and yummy.
