Went here for breakfast. Despite looking near empty it took forever to get food. The waitress forgot a coffee which she remembered about 25 min later we told her by that point we didn't want it, they charged us anyway. Two of the four orders were messed up, a Mexican omelet minus chili and a florentine omelet with no onions and odd looking gyro meat. I love gyros but that meat looked like deli meat, and I didn't order the gyro omelet for a reason. Their biscuits were seriously disappointing they tasted like grands brand, I was pretty sure they were. The bacon was rubbery and couldn't be eaten. We won't be going back. read more

My husband and I went to Mills River Restaurant tonight for the first time in many years. Leah waited on us and she was very efficient and cordial. When my husband went to pay, the lady at the cash register, said this bill is incorrect. When you share a meal you can't get the salad bar for $3.79. My husband said that was what we were told. She screamed at the waitress. The waitress walked off. The lady continued to berate my husband about him not reading the menu. My husband told her, "Just tell me how much I owe and I am out of here." The lady said, "Well if I do that you probably won't be back." My husband said, "You are probably right." The lady had no business berating my husband and the waitress in front of all the other customers. We had no control over what the bill was. She kept blaming my husband, that he should have known, it was on the menu. That lady has no business dealing with the customers. First of all, she should have just accepted the bill as given to us by the waitress and dealt the problem in private besides making a spectacle of the situation. We are never going back! The menu here has something for everyone! Pasta, Fish, Salads, breakfast, desserts, burgers. The prices are very reasonable and the staff is helpful & friendly. The food here is kind of like " home cooking " . My grandparents have been frequently dining here & I go with them sometimes. This isn't a gourmet eatery but it's good and local! This is singlehandly the best restaurant in the Asheville area. Want some real southern cooking? Come here and nowhere else. It's a short drive from the airport, a bit out of the way, but a nice kept secret. You won't see the old rich Florida snow birds or hippie kids eating here - locals only. Almost had a good breakfast this morning at mills River restaurant. My waiter was amazing, however was spoken to very disrespectfully by the owner when he asked for a smoke break. He told the owner he could have just said no but was just yelled at and talked down to until he walked out. At checkout I told the owner it was shitty to talk to his employees like that. He then asked me "who the fuck I was to tell him how to talk to his employees" I told him a paying customer and he just starts yelling for me to leave immediately and never come back, before I even had my change. I wouldn't go back if I could. Obviously he treats his employees and customers like shit because he's a pompous piece of total shit. I have never had such an unpleasant experience anywhere in my life. I recommend no one eat there. Again, mills River restaurant people. 0/10 read more

Our 2 visits to Mills River last week, while on vacation was a great experience. We had breakfast and dinner there. The breakfast is amazing and the dinner was just as delicious! Disgusting. The pudding was hard, all of the salad bar stuff was mixed together. An approximate average age of the people dining there was 83. It was too quiet for comfort and felt awkward. Great food and atmosphere. The only problem was our waitress. We ordered an appetizer and only received about three minutes before our food. Our waitress said she had to remind the kitchen about it. Then it was suppose to come with ranch dressing and did not when we ask she said oh usually people get the salad bar and get it there well of course we did not get the salad bar which she knew . We ordered the turkey and dressing with potatoes for one the sides one of the orders did not have the potatoes she we told her she tried to say they were under the turkey and dressing that sometimes the kitchen hides them under the turkey and dressing of course there was none one side was wrong and then on another we had to wait longer for the fried okra. Our waitress seem preoccupied with the front door every time someone came in she would watch the door while her customers were in the middle of giving her their order and the lady at the register was not very friendly. Bad...simply bad!!! First of all, our waitress had really bad cigarette breath, which made me not want to eat there. Although the salad bar is pretty good, the side veggies are canned and of really bad quality. "Candied yams" were mush and loaded with gobs of sugar...AWFUL. We will miss heading out to the Mill's River Diner, after 4 years of going out of our way from Flat Rock, just to enjoy a reasonably priced meal which always seemed well worth it--in price and servings offered. [We overlooked the fairly unfriendly owner, who usually checks diners out--no eye contact or thank yous, most times--figured he was having another bad day...] A recent visit resulted in total SHOCK--at the 30% or so rise in prices--plus the reduction in what's even offered for most meals, now! Example--dinners once featured baked potato AND salad bar--NOW, it's EITHER/OR--and still with no bread or rolls offered. Salad bar was worth it for 8 bucks, but NOT for the currant 10 dollars--especially with NO soup or bread/rolls offered! Soups and side veggies make us think the chef must have stock in a salt mine! [ WHEN are they going to realize "you can always ADD salt, but can NOT take it away!!] We also marvel that every time we are there, we never seem to see the same serving staff twice! Anyway--It used to be a nice experience, nice meal, good price. Not so, now, sadly. We will miss you, Mill's River Diner! read more

My wife and I had a pretty good meal here tonight. I had lasagna with salad bar and garlic bread. I liked everything! The salad bar was very clean and all foods were fresh...no wilting anything. Okay, so I have been here a lot. Not by my choice. My husband and his family like it. The menu is huge. It might be too large. There's no possible way they can make that many different items and have them all taste good. I've struggled for a long time (8 years) to find something I like there. I may be a bit pickier than my husband, but I don't have this problem at other restaurants. I finally tried the spicy chicken sandwich and now that's my go to meal. Very good. My husband likes the bourbon burger. For breakfast I like the Mexican omelet but they tend to put too many jalapenos on it. I once asked for less but it was still a lot. The food is always okay enough. I've never gotten sick from it and I have a very touchy stomach. The decorations could use an update and the wait staff is sub par but that is exactly what you would expect from a family style local restaurant. Because it is so large and typically not very busy, we often went here when my daughter and her cousins were little. We felt whatever noise they made wouldn't be as bothersome since the patrons could be spaced out so well. read more
