    Lab outing to Milo's
    Brian G.

Milo's is a staple on the Hill for a good reason. It is a place where you can gather with friends for traditional pub fare, cheap pitchers of beer, and some bocce ball. Of all of the bars/restaurants I've been to on the Hill, and there have been many, Milo's is the closest I've come to a neighborhood bar. In a lot of ways it felt like a college bar. Pitchers or buckets of beer, cheap(ish) food, and a laid back vibe. The staff are always very welcoming. The inside service area is relatively small, but there is a MASSIVE patio. You can also reserve the patio for group events at no cost. You just show up and then order off of the normal menu or can do catering. I noticed that the staff were good about turning over tables and generally they were pretty attentive. The food is pretty traditional for a bar setting on the Hill. Wings (half price during happy hour), St. Louis style pizza, toasted ravioli, and the usual fare make an appearance. All of it is pretty good, and all of it is reasonably priced. Keep it mind though that the place skews towards bar more than restaurant. This is a great happy hour location, but it isn't where I'd take my wife for an intimate anniversary dinner.

I had lunch at Milo's on a weekday. I ordered the small Quattro Formaggi pizza with bacon and a small house salad with the creamy Italian dressing. I enjoyed the pizza very much. The toppings were great. Love the gorgonzola cheese and the bacon. My lunch date ordered the chicken parmesan with spaghetti. We were both happy. The service was friendly. We'll be back!

Typical bar food, no complaints, but average. Fun casual atmosphere, but super loud inside. Our large group sat on the patio, fortunately we were under cover when we experienced a summer downpour. Giving 4 stars for fantastic, attentive service.

Milo's is such a great place to grab a casual drink. We came here after we ate dinner at Sado and it was such good vibes. Staff is super kind and helpful, and it's so affordable! We sat at the bar and got a bucket of beers. Awesome spot to watch the game as well (Blues lost but you can't win em all). Solid patio for when it's warm out. Will always recommend Milo's!

The chicken Spiedini was great. Came with salad and pasta. Very homey feeling bar right in the heart of the Hill.

Not quite ready to meet my manager and director for dinner at a restaurant nearby, I was early and stopped at Milo's for something to calm nerves and wind down after the workday. Friendly service at the bar where I was able to order a beer. In the back room next to the golf arcade game, it was quiet. No baseball game going on today so the place was a low level of rowdy as opposed to the usual. This is a nice, neighborhood bar in The Hill. Be careful with parking to not block a fire hydrant or a driveway. [Review 618 of 2024 - 315 in Missouri - 21649 overall]

I came here with a group of friends to dine outdoors on their patio and play bocce ball. Parking was tough and I parked about 4 blocks away, but that's expected for a weekend night in the Hill. It ended up being freezing outside so we really wished there were heaters in the patio! The food was delicious; we ordered pizza, Italian sandwiches, toasted ravioli, and my favorite of the night, hot pepper cheese balls. The cheese balls were SO addicting, crispy, with some heat to it. Overall it's a great place for a casual hangout and it's convenient that the bocce court is right next to the patio tables.

I recently stopped by after an appointment in STL. It was right at lunch time and it was also, opening day for the Cardinals. So when I entered, the line to order was already long. To my surprise, the one lady taking orders, moved that line quickly. So I give her major kudos. When it was turn to order, I was ready. I went with a Double and swapped out the American Cheese for Pepper Jack. For my side, I tried their Salt&Pepper Onion Rings. After ordering, I took my number stick and took a seat at the bar. Once seated, the bartender welcomed me and I ordered a draft beer. I barely had completed my Wordle and my burger basket was being slid in front of me. Before taking my first bite, I admired the crisp edges and actually ran my finger around them. My first bite was heaven. It proved to me that all a good smash burger needs is; ketchup, mustard, onion and pickles. The Onion Rings were made in house and the simple seasoning of Salt & Pepper made them a winner. While dining at the bar, I learned a new trick. If you're going to be sitting at the bar to enjoy your smash burger, you can order it from the bartender. That's right, no standing in line to order, you can go straight to the bar. Great staff. They all hustle and provide friendly and professional service.

I wish there was more meat because the patties are smaller but it was so good! We ordered a side of fries and cheese sauce and they were good too. I wanted to try the garlic aoli but thought the burger was enough garlic (I was wrong!! I should have gotten it!) We got the Carmel crunch shake and it was so good too! The restaurant has plenty of room and they have games to play which is fun! The tables are large so plenty of room for eating and games. We enjoyed the tap selection too. This restaurant has it all! We will definitely be back.

I tried the Pretty in Pink cocktail, which was well-balanced and enjoyable, though the pour felt a bit light for a martini. Normally one martini gives me a slight buzz, but that wasn't the case here. We started with the onion rings as an appetizer. The portion size was generous, and they were tasty overall, though they had a tangy seasoning dusted on top that seemed a little odd at first. Surprisingly, it still worked. I ordered the Good Burger, and it was honestly one of the most flavorful smash burgers I've ever had. I was genuinely impressed. I got the sauce on the side since it also came with the onion rings, and unfortunately, I wasn't a fan of it -- it was a bit runny and lacked flavor. My friend ordered the vegan burger and absolutely loved it. The inside of the restaurant was cute and had a great atmosphere, though there was an unusual smell indoors, so I was very thankful we were able to grab one of the outdoor tables. Outdoor seating is pretty limited, though, so keep that in mind if you prefer sitting outside.

It is a Trojan horse for one of the best burgers in St. Louis (my wife says I'm being dramatic for calling it THE best; I say I am not NOT going back for another). We enjoyed everything we order: the pork belly burnt ends and cashew chicken wings, and a coffee & cardamom old fashioned that sounds like a personality disorder but tastes like a vibe, smoky, a touch sweet, and very drinkable year-round. The Sam Elliott burger, BBQ sauce, bacon, crunchy onions, brioche, is named for a man who has never disappointed anyone, and neither does the sandwich. And the meatloaf is NOT your grandma's brick: tender, charred at the edges, laid over silky mashed potatoes with broccolini, perhaps closer to a chop steak than a loaf in the best possible way. Vibe is farm-chic: old church pews, repurposed interior doors, a proper bar up front, plus a patio and rooftop for when the weather cooperates. Fun fact -- it's named after the blue duck Billy Madison paints in elementary school, which is a fantastic piece of trivia and tells you absolutely nothing accurate about the actual restaurant. 4.7 Stars. Picking Nits: the counter-order setup is efficient, but it sets expectations in the wrong direction for the first 90 seconds, you brace for fast-casual and instead get something considerably more ambitious. Food comes out fast once you've ordered, which is great if you're hungry and slightly jarring if you wanted a slow, lingering dinner. And the Billy Madison naming is charming trivia but entirely misleading as a vibe preview, no complaints about the actual restaurant, just the branding expectations it sets. If The Blue Duck were a character: Ron Swanson. Hear me out. If Ron ate here, he'd be suspicious of the entire experience until his first bite of protein -- the counter ordering, the repurposed doors, a burger named after a fellow mustachioed American, all of it registering as potentially too clever. Then the Sam Elliott hits his plate, he takes one bite, and the skepticism dissolves into the quiet respect of a man who has found his people. Looks rustic. Has strong feelings about meat. Secretly sophisticated -- plays saxophone in a jazz club under a fake name, builds his own furniture, would 100% approve of the farm-chic decor once the protein has spoken. Presents as simple. Isn't.

The worst aspect is the ventilation which needs much work. We came out smelling so greasy and smokey. We seated ourselves and waited a minute for our waitress to assist us. She also didn't know how to make a drink, with that being the case why are you allowed to make any cocktails. If you have a limited cocktail menu but an extensive bar selection you would think their cocktail specials were on point. Nooooo. The BF tried a margarita special and it was awful. I tried a special crafted cocktail that was cool that our waitress asked the guy bartending to specially make because she had no clue about what I was talking about. I hate going to a spot where I make drinks better than the bartenders on hand and that's your job. The BF ordered the the garlic burger and I ordered the Korean wings which NEVER came out because our waitress forgot to order them. So I shared food with the BF. The burger was extremely underwhelming, not seasoned at all. How do you specialize in burgers and mess that up. The best item we ate was the fries and the comedy show was good. I love dinner and entertainment. We are burger enthusiast and if this what your restaurant specializes in I expect to be wowed. We saw all the social media hype surrounding this place and were so excited to try them. To find out it was ALL just hype is a real let down.
