Mariah was a super sweet server who was friendly knowledgeable and attentive to our table. We didn't feel rushed or pressured, it was a relaxing brunch to sit and talk and catch up! We ordered the biscuit & 3 butters- light, fluffy, buttery biscuits and the butters were delicious! After that we got the farm fresh omelets, Italian slinger, breakfast burrito and steak and eggs with grits. The steak was delicious, melts in your mouth, the eggs were perfectly cooked... the Italian slinger was phenomenal! I cleaned my plate- delicious salsiccia and over easy eggs cooked exactly right! My girlfriend and I went to Carnivore for the first time for our anniversary. 3 stars overall. With tip it was $150. Going off the pictures and reviews beforehand, I was expecting it to be more upscale/fine dining. It was a lot more casual than that. Kind of like if Outback had less tables and more of a neighborhood bar feel lol. Not a bad thing, just different from what I pictured when I made the reservation. We came mainly for the steak because obviously the place is called Carnivore. We got the Bone In Ribeye, Chicken Alfredo and Carnivore Potatoes, plus a Strawberry Basil Martini and a Menabrea. Funny enough, the Chicken Alfredo ended up being the best thing we ordered. We basically got it to have some pasta with the steak and ended up not being able to stop eating it. Huge portion, a lot of chicken, and the Alfredo was really good. Was not expecting to leave a place called Carnivore talking more about the pasta than the steak. The ribeye was good, but for the price I expected more. Once you're spending $60 to $70 on a steak, I expect a noticeable difference from somewhere like Outback, and I didn't really feel like there was. It wasn't bad at all, it just wouldn't be the reason I came back. The Carnivore Potatoes were our least favorite. Verrrrry soft and absolutely drowning in butter. Between the two of us we ate maybe one potato and left the rest. The martini was really good and the Menabrea was a solid beer with dinner. Service was probably the biggest downside. For such a small restaurant we really didn't see our server much, maybe 3 times the whole meal. Once for drinks, once to take our order, and once a while after the food came, which is when I finally got to order my beer. After that she was putting chairs up and sweeping the rest of the restaurant before coming back, so when she did we just asked for to go boxes, dessert and the check all at once. We took the Chocolate Chip Cheesecake to go and that was actually pretty good too. Also didn't realize until we got there that Carnivore is on The Hill. It's tucked into the neighborhood and I really liked the location. Went at 7:45 on a Wednesday and parking was easy. Good anniversary dinner and I'm glad we tried it. 6:30 Saturday reservation for two. Many tables empty, maybe 1/3 empty. Waitress not very engaging or interested in us. Poor attitude but it matched the quality of the food. Asked for a list of specials but, even though menu said ask for starter/chef special, she didn't seem to know about it. The Caprese flatbread was underwhelming. The tomatoes were not red or flavorful, they looked like tomatoes on a Subway sandwich. The base/bread of the flatbread was prepackaged and tasted like nothing. Ordered a $68 bone in ribeye. Undercooked which had to be a challenge given the thin cut. The best part about the steak was the crunchy sea salt that topped it. Even Cracker Barrel fills your water. Our waters were never refilled. The menu prices did not meet the low bar standards for every part of this dining experience from the service to the poor quality of the food. Last Wednesday, a new friend in town invited me to dinner. I thought it would be great to show him The Hill and introduce him to Toasted Raviolis, so I suggested Carnivore! We walked in and grabbed a seat in the bar area. The bartender was fantastic! She was knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed. We started with a round of drinks and the Toasted Raviolis. My friend was impressed with them! For dinner, I ordered the Steak Modiga with a loaded baked potato. The steak was cooked to perfection, and the modiga sauce was delicious with all the provel, prosciutto, and mushrooms that covered the steak evenly. The loaded baked potato was hot and filled with all the goods including cheese and bacon. My friend got the ribeye with the loaded baked potato, and it was just right for him. I decided to end the evening with another Tito's and lemonade instead of dessert. Overall, we had a wonderful time at Carnivore. It's a fantastic local spot on The Hill that I'll definitely be returning to again and again! If you're looking for a place to host a small event, Carnivore has a great spot upstairs called The D'Amici Room. It can hold up to 100 people and was amazing to work with for a Buffalo Trace event in October 2025. read more

Came here for dinner. The atmosphere is more like a cafeteria. It's extremely loud once it fills up. We ordered the Caprese flatbread as an appetizer.air came out quickly and was okay. we also ordered a bottle of Chianti, which came in a screw bottle, didn't taste anything like a chianti. Waitress was kind enough to offer w us to oh i another bottle of wine. we then selected a California Cabernet, Waitress stated that it was a new wine and came back and told us that they did not have it yet! Why put it in the wine menu if you don't have it. we decided on an Argentinian Cabernet, which turned out to be very tasty. For our mains we ordered a 6 oz filet with potatoes and a cesar salad, a 8 oz filet medium rare with GOB pasta and a strip steak medium rare with potatoes. We were serve a bread basket before the mains. The bread was stale! when our mains were served they had brought two 6oz filets, instead of one 6 oz and one 8 oz filet. when we brought it to our waitress attention she quickly offered to have it fixed and advised us that it would take 12 minutes. Not sure why it would take 12 minute to make a 8oz filet medium rare. she then brought a new one after 18 minutes . The filet was cooked to a medium. Brought it to the waitress's attention and she offered to have it done again, which we declined as we were already fine with dinner. she then offered to take 50%off the filet. overall the food was okay, We had much higher expectations since it's suppose to be a steak house. They did remove one of our drinks from our tab due to me not liking it which is so kind. The drinks were not my favorite. I first ordered a strawberry lemoncello martini and did not like it at all. When the waitress noticed I had not taken any drinks she returned it and let me re-order. Next I ordered the amaretto marg. It was good, super sweet and different but still not my favorite. We stopped here about 5 hours into a 7 hour road trip. Got a reservation through yelp, (that was so helpful) arrived about 10 min early, so we had to wait for a short bit. We got lucky with parking, as someone was leaving just as we pulled in. The place was packed, and it was a little loud. Most normal people could probably have a conversation, but my family has low voices, so we said what, alot. Nikki was our server, and I think she was working 10 tables or more! Somehow she still managed to stay on top of our drinks and check in as the meal progressed. We all agreed that the food was very good. However a few things were outstanding. My hubby thought the Limon Surf and Turf was very different, and he loved it. I loved the potatoes. Great flavor and texture. My kiddo enjoyed the ravioli, and she was pleasantly surprised by the portion size. My special had perfectly cooked asparagus, and the pasta side was also something I would recommend. Came in again to find an updated menu. Love some of the new choices. It was all so good that we forgot to take pictures. One of the newer items we loved was the risotto filet. The steak was So tender and delicious. The risotto was a mushroom saffron and had amazing flavor. We also had some of our old favorite like the ribeye, shrimp appetizer, and carpaccio. I came here for a brunch since I'd only had it once before but remembered it was so good. This time, I sat at the bar (got there a little after 10:30), so there was ample space. I was immediately given water and a drink and food menu. I had an idea of what I wanted (steak hash) but also wanted to try the biscuits because I remembered them being so good. When I inquired on getting a single biscuit, she said that wasn't an option and suggested an alternative method. I still got the hash but ended up getting a side of sourdough instead. Drink wise, I went with a pineapple mimosa. Sitting at the bar does have its perks, aka, I got my drink rather quickly. She was quite generous with the pour and it always makes a difference when there's more champagne than juice. After a short while, my food arrived and once it was put in front of me, I knew I made the right choice. While I don't see it often, I thought it was cool how they had my steak labeled with how it's supposed to be cooked. It's a small detail that often gets overlooked, especially when it comes to steak. The dish itself was perfect except holy potatoes! I don't think I've ever seen so many come with a dish! I woofed down my eggs per usual and savored each bite of my perfectly cooked steak. The combination of the that, plus the 1 1/2 pcs of toast left very little room for the potatoes. We live in the neighborhood, and decided to walk down for Brunch this Sunday. Everything was fabulous we walked right in, got served drinks right away! I had a Mimosa with orange juice + an Irish Coffee both 10/10! I had the Hilltop Omelette, and my fiancé had the Steak Hash I cannot tell you how amazing both were. When you walk in the restaurant has exposed brick some older architecture, it's a larger space which helps conversation because you don't feel like you're on top of the next table. When we first walked in at 8pm on a Friday night, I thought we had walked into a Chuck E. Cheese. There were several kids running around everywhere and being more than a little loud. I'm sure the cold weather made them and their parents a bit stir crazy. It all seemed a little bit chaotic and unruly. I was expecting a little more of an upscale experience, like many other places on the Hill. To be fair, none of this chaos was due to the restaurant or its personnel. They were all very professional and had to deal with it as well. Also, the decor and ambiance was a lot more casual than I was expecting. Bad on me for not checking it out more in advance. To the food and drink: The cocktails were good/average and our server was very pleasant and personable. She even came back to our table to ensure she had my order exactly correct. I had the 8oz Filet Mignon and side Caesar Salad. Salad was well dressed and very good. The Filet was cooked absolutely perfectly. It was SO good (tender and flavorful with a nice char crust), it truly made up for the kid chaos (most of whom had left by the time the entrees arrived). My wife had a side salad and Carnivore Shrimp appetizer for an entree. The shrimp dish flavor was very good and on the spicy side, which we both enjoy. Solid choice. Our friend had the bone-in Ribeye and he was not as impressed. It was cooked correctly, but the quality/marbling of the steak was closer to Choice than Prime. He did enjoy the Try It Loaded Potatoes as his side. Overall, probably a 3.5 star experience, but I won't fault the restaurant for the early chaos and noise; so going with the 4-star review. read more

Food was pretty good but was definitely overpriced. Atmosphere was kind of strange. Lots of tables pushed together and crowded. I had a 6 oz filet mignon. It only came with one side, so I got the Carnivore potatoes which turned out to be just boiled potatoes and butter. Not very creative. There was one waitress for the entire restaurant on a Thursday evening. Although she was very good in demeanor and in overall service, she was obviously stretched to thin for optimal service. I had the boneless ribeye, with cajun seasonings ang cowboy butter, medium rare. The steak temperature result was medium, as was my friend's who ordered it exactly the same. I had too add a fair amount of salt to achieve an acceptable level of seasoning...and I NEVER add salt to anything at the table usually! So this was disappointing for a $64.00 steak. I had a glass of cabernet. The per glass wine options were underwhelming, and I found my selection (the more expensive one) to be of only average quality (I am somewhat of an oenophile though). Also, the pour amount was inconsistent...my friend also ordered a glass and received 30% more than I did. I had so looked forward to eating here. As a regular at restaurants located 1-2 blocks away (Sado and Charlie Gitto's), I had often seen this restaurant packed with patrons. While maybe this was just an off night, I see no compelling reason to return. No matter how nice the ambiance or location, if the food preparation is substandard, no meal may be fully enjoyable. read more

The caesar salad was really good and I loved the texture of the homemade croutons; crunchy but so soft they could basically melt in your mouth. The potatoes were absolutely delicious and I wanted to love the steak but it just didn't seem to come out fresh it was almost room temperature like it may have been sitting there for a moment. Carnivore was less enjoyable than expected because the side dish of Carnivore Potatoes in olive oil butter garlic sauce topped with parmesan was my favorite dish that evening. Yes, the service was good and our server did check up on us. Yes, the restaurant was clean and the window view was appreciated. But, I was expecting one of the main dishes to be my favorite which was the 8oz Filet Mignon or Chicken Risotto - (grilled chicken sauteéd with sun-dried tomatoes, asparagus, and white wine). The risotto didn't taste anything spectacular and the filet mignon was over cooked and chewy. I am an amateur smoker at home and if I can make meat taste better, then something could be improved by offering higher quality meat or the cooking process. The bread could've also tasted better and serving butter in a non-prepackaged container would've been a good start. The reservations through Yelp functioned as expected and we were quickly seated. I moved from St. Louis several years ago and like to visit different restaurants when I'm here. This trip I decided to visit Carnivore. The restaurant was quaint. Our waitress was extremely helpful giving suggestions and recommendations. The food was delicious. We started our night with the jalapeño poppers and shrimp appetizers. For dinner I had the salmon which was seasoned and cooked well. The one thing I would say I wasn't happy with was the blackberry mojito. The perfect date night dinner spot for my wife's birthday. The entrees range between $15 for a flatbread to $64 for the 10oz filet. The service was fast and friendly. My wife and I decided to split the Bruschetta and it was delicious. For dinner we both started off with the Caesar salads and that was one of the best Caesar Salads we both have had. For the main course I had the Baked Beef Ravioli it was delicious. My wife had the 6oz filet and the baked potato side item and she said they both were also delicious. My wife also had a glass of their house red wine and she said it was really good. They take all major credit cards. I suggest making a reservation because they do get busy. We had a reservation for 6 PM and by 6:30 PM most of all the tables were full. It is located on the hill so parking is sparse but there are two lots near the restaurant that you should be able to find a spot in. My rating : BEST read more

Both my visits to Carnivore have been very pleasant (one for dinner, one for brunch). It's a steakhouse on The Hill, and does a good job of presenting what many Saint Louisans expect of each. It's The Hill, so expect a crazy competition for a parking space. We last visited on a Friday evening; it took more than ten minutes to find a spot, and we walked three blocks. I don't mind--just give yourself plenty of time! As other reviewers have mentioned, the entrance isn't where you may intuitively approach; it's at the door marked 5257 on Shaw, not at the corner of the building. This new(er) entry allows plenty of space for folks to wait for a table without standing among other diners. This large vestibule also has restroom access and some seating, and was festively decorated for the holiday season in December. We had reservations and waited just ten minutes or so for a table. The dining room is bustling and loud; the decor is pretty modern and there aren't a lot of soft surfaces to absorb sound. As I've seen in other Hill restaurants, there's a culture of efficiency over ambiance: servers rush around, check on guests often, and clear plates quickly. We had a table for two, with aisle on both sides of our table. People rushed by constantly and I could easily hear others' conversations. We were given drink menus, and the cocktail section had no prices, which I find to be rather rude (and brings the "that's how they get you" phrase to mind). The cocktails I tried were okay but not remarkable; the Marconi Negroni, made with gin, blood orange apertif, and Campari, mostly tasted like Campari. We skipped appetizers in anticipation of a hearty dinner. Entrées come with one side, and choices include a side salad, one vegetable, and several pastas and potatoes. (But is it a side salad if it comes out first?) I chose salmon and salad and my partner had steak and fries; I had a salad while he had nothing, then I ate fish with no accompaniment. I should've thought that through and gotten both a salad and a vegetable. Steak prices have gone WAY up since the older menu photos posted here. I know prices of everything have gone up, especially post-COVID, and Carnivore's aren't wildly out of line; just don't expect those 2019 numbers today. We had the salmon and strip steak; both were good. The salad was like all other salads on The Hill--no complaints here!--and the bread is the familiar sesame-seed-topped loaf which I assume is from Vitale's. Chocolate lava cake for dessert was warm and rich. When I visited for brunch with friends a few weeks ago I felt even more rushed. I recall very good coffee though! In all, I've found Carnivore to be enjoyable. The food and service are good. The atmophere is casual; it's no the sort of special vibe I'd seek out for an exceptional occasion, but I'd go back and sit at the bar for a bite and a drink. read more

However, the crust was limited to grill marks and not a nice, even, golden brown Malliard crust.
