I ordered from this restaurant on Uber eats. I got the Chimichanga. It was absolutely horrid. The chimichanga looked like a turd and it was soggy as hell. After taking a bite, It turned out to be so very salty that it was physically impossible to eat. The chimi had nothing in it but grounded beef and it had a sandy texture. I kept biting into little rock's in the chimi. The beans and rice were nothing special, sub par. And they gave me chips without any salsa or dip of any kind, just plain ol' chips. Just the biggest waste of money. I threw the food away, if you can even call it that. Slept hungry last night. Thanks Milpa. You ain't gonna get another dollar out of me, that's for sure. read more

The Good - Remodel has really improved the ambiance. Queso Blanco w/ beef. Alambre skillet. All the drinks. Food is great. Have been coming here a long time and the food and great drinks are what keep me coming back. The Diablo salsa will make you sweat. The margaritas are excellent - even their house Milpa-Rita is good, and strong. I wish they would use different glasses for the beer-ritas like schooners. The straws are too short so your face is mashing into the beer the entire time you drink it. I had to put two straws together to drink it! The bad - The wait- Tonight the waiting area was just me and my son and two other twosomes waiting and we were given 30 minute wait time with many empty tables visible. I watched a couple wait thirty minutes to be seated on the COMPLETELY empty Pepitas side. Why couldn't they have been seated and given waters / taken drink orders at least??? The last time I was here it was an hour wait (completely empty waiting area and open tables) and I watched three separate large groups leave once they heard the wait time....do you not like money??? The service - maybe they are perpetually short-staffed but the service seems to be suffering. The wait staff seem so thin stretched that you often have to wave somebody down to refills our chips, find out where the margarita you ordered 15 minutes ago is, get drink refills, etc. Don't bother waiting for someone to notice you need drink or chip refills - you will have multiple wait staff and management walk right past you. Stopped by here yesterday with a few coupons from College Guide. Our server, Victoria, was amazing. Even with how busy the place was, she was still very attentive and kind. The margaritas we ordered where strong and fresh. You can tell they use fresher juices and ingredients, as opposed to the typical sugary purée. It was also Taco Tuesday, and the tacos were very flavorful and juicy. I highly recommend this spot for any occasion. My only suggestion is to add a little more to the white queso. It tasted like the cheese they use at Panera for their Mac and cheese dish. Some more seasonings, or adding pico or a meat would be a great way to spice it up in my opinion. We ordered via Door Dash. Absolutely worst Tex-Mex food I have ever ordered in the DFW area. Delivery was prompt. The "Queso Blanco" was delivered as a yellow-cheese watered down soup. Bland. Like they poured water into the queso to make extra. The "diablo salsa" we ordered extra was so mild, even the spice hater in the house could tolerate it. Also bland. And super watery. Again, seemed like they added water to make extra quantity. The chimichangas were rubbery and soggy. We will give them the soggy because we ordered delivery, but cmon people, put the cheese sauce in a cup on the side for us to put it on when it gets here. I appreciated they tried to differentiate the beef from the chicken chimichanga by sprinkling beef on top, but they sprinkled the beef on the chicken one. Also, we ordered steak, not ground beef. And paid extra for that. The lack of detail and attention this place displayed to our order is glaringly obvious and a huge disappointment. Probably never ordering from here again. I had a "drink and a bite" date here recently, during which we sampled only a few things, but I enjoyed it all. The chips and salsa were the first to arrive, and the chips were crispy and a nice brown, with the salsa being a fairly spicy affair, but not very chunky. We both had a Spider Bite margarita, which features a frozen margarita base, blue curacao, and Tarantula tequila, which is a tequila infused with a citrus liqueur. It was a very attractive looking drink, and packed a bit of a punch as well. It is on the sweet side, so order accordingly. Finally, we tried queso blanco with brisket, and it was a nice white queso with a more of a "stretchy" consistency than liquid, but not so much that it'd go all the way from your plate to your mouth. The brisket was moist and while not terribly smoky, had a good flavor and made a nice texture contrast with the cheese. We also tried some flour tortillas with the queso; they were above average, fresh and hot. Overall, this was a nice visit, and I look forward to trying some of the entrees or other items next time. read more

The food is consistently just ok. It's not bad Tex Mex, but it's nothing to look forward to either. At our most recent visit the chips were very stale. The salsa tasted like chopped tomatoes and could've really used some spice. I would not recommend coming here for the food. I would highly recommend coming here if you like margaritas! They have 100 different margaritas including several options for spicy, fruity, and herb infused. They are very reasonable priced drinks. Most margaritas are $6 - $7. They also have margarita flights (includes 4) for $13 - $18. We've had good service when coming here. The restrooms could've used some cleaning at our recent visit. IMPORTANT INFO UPDATE: (1st the bad and then the good) My husband and I went to Milpa on Cinco de Mayo a couple of years back. It was dark and dirty, to be honest. The margs were incredible and they have probably 50 different ones to choose from, but we said we wouldn't go back just because it seemed run down. RECENT RETURN VISIT: we went because our realtor was hosting a charity function and I was SHOCKED! Doesn't even look like the same place...the WHOLE place has been remodeled. It's bright! It's CLEAN! It's colorful! I'm so glad after that we tried it again and the food was awesome and service was great. I haven't looked at the menu as of right now, but there is a non-frozen pomegranate drink that is OUT OF THIS WORLD. I don't understand how Milpas doesn't have higher reviews! Every single time I've come here the food has been delicious, hot, and the wait time has never been super long. Always very good! And my server has always been extremely great, I've never felt neglected when coming here. Their drinks are also to die for! I love the variety. On Cinco de Mayo I went to go have an early dinner. They had $5 Rita specials and a Very limited food specials like only ONE item which consisted of carnitas fries. That's it!!! I sat at the bar which was small, I believe they only had 4 stools available. I guess people just sit in the bar area tables instead of the bar. Anyway, I ordered the chicken fajita nachos, and they were very tasty along with the comp.chips and salsa. All was nice except the lack of service. I received my drink, then the food came and that's it. No customer interaction as to how my margarita tasted nor the food. I was served and never check on as to see how I was doing. The bar area was empty and two bartenders just focused on preparing the drink orders for the dinning area and totally forgot I was there. Very sad to feel neglected on my FIRST visit here. Yesterday was the last day of peak at work and my arms felt like they were falling off and I wasn't driving anywhere! We decided to give UberEats a shot since I had used it at work a few times but we hadn't used it in town. La Milpa was one of the options and we had never eaten here before so decided to give it a try. We ordered the beef quesadillas for my husband which were $9. I ordered the Asada y Enchilada which was $13. Since I had no idea what Mexican Mashed Potatoes were I decided to try a side of White Mexican Rice for $2 in case I didn't like it. We also ordered a small queso for $3. Total before tax, delivery fee and tip was $27. First, I was impressed it was delivered on a Friday during dinner rush, across town, in 30 minutes. I was handed a paper grocery bag full of food. Next I was really impressed with the high quality plastic to go containers and lids. Nothing had spilled, everything was kept warm and the containers were a good size and reusable. As I was opening everything up I thought the portion size was a little less than what I was expecting for the price we had paid. First, the small side of of queso was addictive. The chips are the thin restaurant style but were fresh. The salsa has a little bit of heat, not a lot since I was able to handle it. They had cilantro and spices mixed in but it was a little watery. We had all this food but we could not stop eating the queso so I guess it was better than even my initial impressions because it's long gone now. I then noticed that they gave me two orders of the white Mexican rice and no mashed potatoes. To be honest, I didn't miss them because everything tasted so good but I was curious to try them. I guess they got busy and the wrong thing got put in the bag, no big deal since I got the correct number of sides and am not out of any money. The regular rice was surprisingly spicy so I'm really glad I got the white rice, it was tasty and more my speed. The beans and cheese enchilada were as expected. The asada had a lot of seasoning as did the quesadilla, more than I'm used to- in a good way. In fact everything was surprisingly and pleasantly flavorful so even though I think the price point per item was a little high, I felt I got my money's worth in quality. So don't be deterred by that, I won't. We were glad we tried it out and both have decided to try it again. Give them a shot! read more

The bathrooms are like something out of a horror movie. The guacamole is hit or miss, with 1/4 being amazing, 1 being horrible and 2 being average. Their wine is over priced for the quality. Went @ 4pm on a wen and was surprised to already see people there. The building is right next door to a economy hotel so it looks a little sketchy. Walking in it's a huge restaurant that is divided into 2 , one side is a new vegan menu and milpa is the other. Little odd. Both sides are huge and looks remodeled. Host was very nice. the jefa margarita was good. I really enjoyed the 3 flight frozen, I'm not usually a fan but the flavors were fun to try. The carne asada fries were my favorite part nice chunks of asada on top of a queso fries with cheese pico on top. Shrimp tacos were good , flautas were huge with chicken and beef which was nice combination. . No sopeapillas we're available , churros we're ok , little hard and dry for my taste , they also fill them with a cream of some sort. Overall I was impressed , service was good and attentive. Would return to try more. Pricing is great for small plates which are a regular platter. Left full and happy. read more

The service we received was pretty good. They really just bough food and drinks to us, which was expected. Bartenders were super sweet and the drinks were great! I had the fish bowl with the berry hibiscus and I had a regular margarita on the rocks, I believe it was called cognac. Ppl at the table had the blushing, pomegranate, watermelon cucumber, black widow and I can't remember the others lol overall pretty good. Their food is so good but their service is so not. I have ordered takeout, which is 30 minutes of driving to pick it up 3 times. Two of the three times they had messed up my order so significantly I had to call and reorder and wait another hour for food. Check your food when you pick it up, they often forget condiments and once they forgot half of my order. I am sad to be done with them, because it's hard to find vegan Mexican food, but it isn't worth the hassle of having to have my food made twice or having to pick it up twice. read more

I hardly go out to restaurants to eat - as a vegan, it's usually an overpriced meal with sad proportions or no variety. I came across this restaurant on a broad search for "vegan" from our home in Flower Mound. My husband knew of this restaurant from his college days at UNT and it wasn't too far of a drive for dinner. I was so excited to look into their menu and find an entire vegan section! Not vegetarian. Not a meat entree without the meat or cheese. Not just "mushroom fajitas". DEDICATED vegan items on their menu with vegan cheeses and soy proteins. I had options for once instead of trying to make up one option. We split an order of the vegan tamales and vegan quesadillas. I highly recommend the tomatillo sauce for the tamales, didn't care as much for the ranchero sauce. The quesadillas were so good and had a good mix of veggies with the Daiya cheese. Will definitely get those again next time. The side of black beans tasted fresh and had a good texture. LOVED the salsa that came with the chips as well. I was also impressed with their margarita list. Exactly 100 varieties and flavors of different margaritas. We just got their house frozen margaritas and those were also excellent. The drink menu is what makes this place. I had the prickly pear margarita. Fantastic! The food was just okay. I ordered the bacon wrapped shrimp. It was on the dry and flavorless side. The ranch they served with it was sour. I asked for a side of garlic butter but they didn't have that so the manager said he would get me some. I had to ask the server twice to bring it and when she did it looked like a side of butter that someone had been dipping their tortilla in. My partner and I both had enchiladas and the cheese and chili sauce felt weirdly separate from the dish itself. Great Mexican Food In Denton! I have two kids in school at UNT for the past two years and I could never find a decent Mexican food restaurant (that was not a chain) in Denton until now. Tried this place this weekend and it was great! Right from the beginning the chips and salsa were outstanding and fresh. My wife and I shared the Alambre Skillet. It was hot and tasted excellent. As a former employee I enjoy Milpa more than any other Tex-Mex spot in Denton. Today my friend Guy and I decided that we would go to Milpa for some Margs and food. However when we went in, the restaurant was seemingly empty, with a 30 minute wait. We had no problem waiting and I gave the host my friends name and my phone number and he said I should be getting a text when our table was ready. We waited for 45 minutes and got no message about our reservation. And then when I tried to call them and ask them about it I wasn't able to get through to either Milpa or Pepitas. I'm extremely disappointed with them as it was one of my favorite spots, however I will not be going back nor recommending them to anyone. read more

Heard great things about this little spot in denton and was thoroughly disappointed with my experience. The waitress was rude and left a miller light beer cap in one of our chip baskets. We were continuously left us waiting for 20 minutes at a time to put in our food, receive it, and run our check. On top of all of that it was the worst queso I have ever had. This is my second time to eat at Milpa's! I got the Vegan Portobello Fajita Tacos To-Go! They were wonderful and came with 4 handmade corn tortillas! Lots of sides! Even vegan sour cream and shredded cheese! Their black refried beans are KILLER good. I wanna eat a whole gallon! Lol. And I approve of their rice and love that they keep including fresh cut limes and free flakey delicious chips and salsa with each plate! Yum! The staff is so wonderful every time we have interacted and the measures that have been taking during this Covid Pandemic have been impressive too! And they are opening their sister-restaurant ON SITE next door "Pepitas"- the fully vegan side with MORE vegan options later this week! Ugh! Just go and support the vegan options! I do HIGHLY recommend you try the Vegan Al Pastor Tacos! They are the BEST dang things I've tried so far and they are so bomb with that pineapple and cilantro inside! Mmmm mmmm MMM! The food here is awesome and there's plenty of it. The drinks here are also great so it makes a real nice spot for happy hour as well. Make reservations if you're going to come during peak hours. The setup here is kind of odd because it has a giant bar but still has a kind of upscale seating. The service here isn't perfect but the food and drinks make me plenty happy read more
