Cataract surgery was fine but CUSTOMER CARE/SERVICE was HORRIBLE. Twice I waited for an unacceptable amount of time to see Dr. My wait after a kind technician saw me was well over an HOUR before the Dr walked in all smiling. I was fuming sitting in the exam room waiting for actual Dr. One technician said she sometimes doesn't come in until all her post op people are there and another time I was told maybe she was still at lunch. Few weeks after surgery I had a question about itching eyes and sent 2 emails thru patient portal with NO RESPONSE. Sent a 3rd email and then called and the response I got was ridiculous....no one could say why I never got a response/ they try to read all patient portal messages/ sometimes they have over 80 patients. DO NOT CONSIDER BEING A PATIENT AT MIDWEST CENTER FOR SIGHT! read more

After I posted my review I was contacted by their billing representative who told me that it is their policy to not process claims for services (like refractions) not covered by Medicare but covered by other insurance. So if you a vision care policy you may want to look elsewhere. read more

I last saw the ophthamologist 11/2023. I suddenly received 2 notices from a collection agency indicating a balance due of $26.27. I made 5 phone calls to the Midwest Ctr for Sight finance office, only reaching a real person on the 5th call. (no reply to the 4 previous voice messages left). I was informed that this amount was not covered by insurance. The person was not authorized to write off the balance, even though the charges were 2 years old. This is consistent with the poorly run office staff, causing patients to wait over an hour past their appointment time. The finance department indicates that she is cleaning up old accounts. To get them off my back, I agreed to pay the balance. Technically they are not entitled to payment that is 2 years old. read more

My wife and I have been a patient here for over 30 years. From Dr Hirshman retired to Dr Mono (her cataract surgery both eyes) retired to Dr Patil currently ( me recent cataract surgery both eyes) I received excellent treatment and results from all three to current date. I will say, front desk is improving (work in process) but can still use some tweaking. 5***** to medical staff, surgical group and technical crew. Three years ago we moved away from the area but continue to drive 1hr to1-1/2hr to stay with this group. read more

Do not pay anything out of your pocket. I paid for pills and made total 7 call since June 6, 2025 to ask for a refund. The bottle with vitamins was not open and was return the next day, June 7, 2025. I was told that can't give me refund to my credit card, instead the check will be sent out. I had to involve BBB to help me to resolve this issues. Finally, September 17 2025 they agreed to refund the prepaid amount to my credit card. It cost me a lot of work to get a refund. The crew is not competent. Lottie read more

I don't like to write negative reviews but am so disappointed and angry with this office. It is the most poorly run office I've ever seen and don't have any concern for your time. The doctors may be good but they overbook and run 1-2 hours late. After waiting 1 1/2 hours I asked how much longer and was told they haven't even pulled my chart. My family members and I have been coming for several years and it has continually gotten worse over the years. So as good as they may be I will not be coming back here. I had a great experience here, I chose this place because they were in network with VSP and because it was really close to my house. All I needed was an eye exam and while they do more intensive eye treatments they were still able to handle my basic need of an eye exam. Christine helped me choose the most amazing pair of frames for my prescription sunglasses. She is so incredibly sweet and helpful, make sure you talk to her before you leave. I had an appointment scheduled as a new patient with Dr. Katz on 7/14/23. This was made in April. I was told that this was his 1st available appointment. I received a text late in the afternoon on 7/6 cancelling the appointment with instructions to call a number to reschedule so I called and left a message. Then I left another message 3 days later. It's been 11 days since and I never received a phone call. it is absolutely ridiculous that they left a text instead of calling me not knowing that I actually received the text. Most doctors offices call to cancel an appointment so that you can immediately reschedule. Also, no reason was given for the cancellation. Obviously, they have no regard for their patients. read more

Dr. Patil is fantastic, which is why I overlooked the first time the billing department was unwilling to listen to my understanding of a billing mistake, threatened to send me to collections and I had to talk to the office manager to straighten out the bill (who agreed with my position at that time). But the second time, I'm done with them. I called the billing department because despite me checking to make sure all their doctors were in network, they set me up with an OD. This person was not in network. When I called to negotiate the billing, the billing representative told me the OD was in network. Clearly my EOB said she is not as does my insurance carrier's website. The billing rep would not compromise even after asking her to go to the website. When I got a bit rude with her and finally said just to take my payment and I would report them online and to the regulators, she refused to take my payment and told me she would send me to collections. It's a shame Dr. Patil is working with such horrible office staff. I will be getting regulators involved to help ensure this does not happen to anyone else. read more

I'd give a 5 to the tech who helped me and Dr. Dave. Both are very through, friendly and made me feel I was in good hands. It was a tough day for other reasons and I couldn't cancel my appointment, but they were great, being how anxious I was, and I actually calmed down during my exam. My gripes for this place are you can't cancel your appointment unless it's 24 hours before or you will be charged. The people who answer the phone can be short and kind of rude. The wait time Is horrendous. I think I spent 2 hours just for an eye exam. Lastly, I felt pressured in deciding what type of lens I wanted, and I didn't feel free to actually look at the frames myself. The glasses I had purchased years ago at Midwest Center for Sight were beat up so it was time for another trip there. I originally wanted to see Dr. Mono but he is booked forever it seems. For good reason - a great guy and a great eye doctor. Instead I made an appointment with Dr, Dikopf. The appointment went smooth as silk. From the check-in desk to the techs who do the eye and eyeglass evaluations, all were very pleasant and very competent. Dr. Dikopf was great. No dropoff at all and he exceeded expectations. But what made the visit special was working with Christina in choosing and sizing new glasses. Very friendly, very professional and very informed. After several attempts at getting new gas permeable contact lenses, which I have been wearing for about 50 years, I finally received confirmation from another doctor that the lenses dispensed to me by Midwest Center for Sight are SOMEONE ELSES...NOT MY PRESCRIPTION and are "way off." Three times I received new lenses from them and three times I said these are not working for me. Apparently they are not listening because I was told from dispensary, these are your FINAL pair. Well, they have been sitting in the drawer for a year. Recently, visited a new eye doctor who was able to read the prescription of the lenses and confirmed they are NOT my prescription. Well, a few hundred dollars down the drain. Needless to say, I am certainly not going back.... Need to listen to your patients since you can't see what they see. read more

After a long night of partying, I lost my eye contact plunger. I could not remove my contacts out of my eyes without the plunger. I where scleral contact lens and u need a certain plunger And u can't just find this at Convenience store. With that being said You can imagine my frustration and pain I was in. I called doctor office after office trying to see someone could help. I drove by Midwest Center For Sight and decided to walk in. Thank the Lord I did. I was greeted by the phenomenal team of Carmen Blanca Christina and Dr Hermali. These ladies went out there way for me. They not only got me a plunger and removed my contacts they treated me with care quickly and professionally even though I had no appointment. The doctors, the technicians and the assorted aids do excellent work. However they do not do it very quickly. It is common to get in right away for the tests and dilation on the eyes. Then you are escorted to another waiting room to wait and wait and wait. As I am writing this I have been waiting for an hour and a half. One patient has been waiting for over two hours. I just came in for a check up. I don't have any thing wrong with my eyes. There are plenty of other places I can go to get a check up. This is my last trip here. My time is important to me. Several attempts to get contact lenses and each of the three times, i could not see through lenses issued. Told dr. Dave and she kept saying they were identical to my current lenses. Dispensery said these were my Final lenses. Never could wear them. Finally found new doctor. Checked gas permeable lenses and said they were not even close to my prescription or fitting. Got my new lenses today. Absolutely perfect. So bottom line is that i got someone's lenses or there was a terrible mistake three times. Why not believe your patient? read more

I am really happy with my Dr. here but good luck if you are trying to reach somebody in the insurance department. Just be aware that you will likely have to go into the location if you have a insurance/billing issue. I will continue to come here because the equipment/staff and doctors are top notch but trying to get somebody to return a call from here is really difficult. I will inquire about this Monday when I drive 40 minutes out of my way to the location and ask if they have an issue with the voicemail system. I will update this review when I find out what the issue is. Call me crazy but to me it's easier to return a phone call than to drive 40 minutes out of the way and take another 20 minutes to stand around in the office. This is a great eye center! I had my PRK laser surgery done with Dr James Katz in 2013 on both eyes after 15 years of wearing contacts, and I'm super happy 5 years later. It's so nice waking up every morning and seeing everything 20/20... Their equipment seemed new and top notch, staff were very professional. They get pretty booked though, and a wait for appointment might be a couple months. Dr Katz is a very quick person, and I attribute it partially to the busy schedule. Some might feel a bit rushed, but despite the busyness, he answered all of my questions at every appointment, made me feel safe about the surgeries, and did everything with perfect precision. read more

Honestly, Dr. Mono is awesome. But his staff is terrible. They are always in a rush and I don't think it's their fault, just really busy there. Today, the checkout person pushed me over the edge. She was so incredibly rude. How can you speak to patients like that?? Being a nurse manager in a busy hospital, this shocks me. I found Dr. Richard Katz due to an emergency. I had sudden vision loss in my right eye around the thanksgiving holiday. I went to the emergency room were I was treated very poorly and was told that I had an ocular migrane (which I knew that wasn't it) I called Dr. Katz's office on Black Friday and he agreed to see my right away on an emergency case. Right when I walked into the office everyone was extremely nice to me. Although I had to wait a bit to see Dr. Katz I didn't mind because he was the only MD office that agreed to see me right away. He was very kind and had a great sense of humor. He was very through with my exam and assured me that it wasn't my retina. He asked me to come back the next day so they can preform more tests. I ended up having to come see him at least once a month for like 5-6 months. Every single time I would see him, he would have a little post-it to remind him of things he wanted to check out with me. He really made me feel like I was his patient and cared. He really kept up to date with my case and also kept in touch with my primary doctor to keep her in the loop. The admin staff are just as great, they helped me schedule my MRI with the hospital with ease and made sure I had everything I needed before I left each visit. I would recommend this place to everyone, they truly know what patient care really is. read more

I had eye lid surgery at this location last October 2015. Dr. Noel Sax did the surgery. I have had several issues with this surgical center. The doctor who put me out did a great job but office sent me a bill. which i paid immediately. They called from collections looking for payment. I sent them the canceled check and continued to call me. We finally had to call the Dr. to have them stop. The next issue i had was its 6 month later and the surgical is just now sending me a bill for over 1600.00 dollars. Insisted that i pay the bill in full. i told them i would put 1/2 down and ay a certain amount each month they wanted more and I wouldn't budge. they were insisent on review my bill in 6 months to raise the payments which i have no in tensions of doing Worst place i have ever been in. will never go there again. Dr Sax was great and did a great job on my eyes. BEWARE of this surgical center. read more

Christina is an awesome person to work with. My Dad has been in rehab due to muscle weakness, fell and broke/bent his glasses. Brought them into one of the chain stores and they didn't even want to try fixing. Brought them into Christina and she was able to get them back to a great state. Very much appreciate the effort and willingness to help, especially with my Dad not being very mobile at the time. Every doctor and staff here is incredible. I have been a patient here for many many years. I have been seen by every doctor here and they are all top notch. They take the time to get to know you and answer any questions you may have. They facility is very clean as well. The staff smiles and is overly friendly. A special shout out to Dr. James Katz who did my Lasik surgery a few days ago. He is the honestly the best! Dr. Katz was so friendly and kind and took the time to answer all of my questions about the procedure. During the surgery he was very positive and talked to me about each of the steps as he was doing it. He was clear with the follow up procedure as well. I am still so impressed with how well I can see two days post surgery without contacts or glasses. Given how nearsighted I was prior to the surgery, I was anticipating all these complications. So far I have none. Dr. Katz of course did tell me I could still experience some complications and if I did he told me exactly what to do. He continued to make me feel great after that and said everything was looking really good. Happy doctor and VERY happy patient! I will highly recommend him to anyone who is considering getting lasik. read more

I never thought I would be reviewing healthcare facility but I am doing this for the benefit of others and anybody who reads this should stay far far away!! If I could give this place zero stars I would! I brought my 89 year old Mother for appointment to get prescription for new eyeglasses. The appointment lasted 2 hours. They did all sort of tests and dragged us from room to room and finally for the most important part - the vision assessment they did it completely wrong!!The girl who performed the vision test was not only incompetent but completely ignored my Mom's complaints about not seeing the letters well. All she kept saying was "it's OK" "It's OK" So guess what?! It was NOT ok. When we got her new glasses she couldn't see anything! So I decided to take her to completely different optometrist and it made a world of difference! Her actual prescription was totally different.I am so upset at the entire process I am upset at their disregard for elderly people . I am upset that they hire incompetent personnel and doctor doesn't even check their work!! I understand mistakes happen but total disregard for patients is not acceptable. All they seem to care in this center is billing Medicare and getting their money. Helping patients is at the bottom of their agenda. read more

I recently had an eye appointment with Dr. Patil a few months ago and really liked her! She pays attention to what you're actually saying and makes you feel important. As my first time coming to the office, I can say I was very pleased. I was greeted the minute I walked in as well as the girls being super friendly when I was leaving. I had an issue with a referral for insurance and the girls were kind enough to help me get that without hesitation. Regardless of others experiences, I have to disagree completely. As an individual Dr Katz is indifferent and aloof in his presentations. The doctors staff will place you in a examining room and you will wait and wait untill you think they forgot about only to realize that the doctor is working on a number of people at the same time. As a surgeon I can only relate my experience-he corrected my cataracts in both eyes and was very impressed with the results. The prescription for my new glasses and the fitting of the glasses ( part of Medicare) was a disaster-the arrogance and incompetence of the staff in the eyeware fitting operation in Dr. Katz's practice would prevent my return to Dr. Katz. My complaints were answered as if I was an indigent homeless person off the street and a charity interruption. The person called the office manager would be better suited in a penal institution with her attitude and use of the english language, (there was no use of any type of street words) brought a combative posture into the conversation. read more

I like Dr. Patil. She is very thorough in the checking process. However, I don't like coming to see her because the office seems to have issues in managing the patients' waiting time. Every time that I am in the office, my average wait time is more than 45 minutes and sometimes even up to an hour. The most recent one is up to an hour. If you want a quality eye exam don't go here!!! If you want a McDonald's drive through fast type eye exam that's the place. It doesn't take much they have quick staff that go really really fast through all the tests ( I give them that much they have dexterity-in a health care facility it is not a good thing ). They're very very expensive($225 for an eye exam)...I'm a full time student and that was just out of my range. when I paid after my exam my eyes were dilated from the medication I kept looking at the receipt and all I could see was $25 but the receptionist said $225. $225 !!! OMG..For what? Honestly it is not worth it. I had better quality in care going to Walmart. Dr Patel you are a very nice person but as a ophthalmologist your grade is F. read more

They are completely up-to-date with the latest equipment, tests, treatments, etc. They truly care about their patients and protecting your precious vision. Every step in the process is explained in detail so no need to be scared. And Dr. Mono volunteered to do eye surgery on a bear at Lincoln Park Zoo! read more
