My fiancé hired Mimi to capture a once in a lifetime moment, his proposal. She charged him $673 for two hours (and he tipped her $80 on top of that). We recently received our photos and are DEVASTATED. The quality looks like it was taken from an old flip phone by a random bystander. The photos are blurry, grainy, and taken from poor angles where you can't even see our faces.(Photos attached) Also during our proposal, she completely destroyed our special moment. She was very inconsiderate and didn't give me a minute to take in what happened (it was a surprise) and went right into posing us literally the second after my fiancé popped the question. I was crying and she told me to pose and smile... I can't even imagine how she'd be during a wedding. We reached out to her after receiving our photos to share our dissatisfaction and she blamed us for the timing of our proposal (5:15pm) and not having good lighting. Ok first of all, my fiancé gave her the time frame she would be shooting and she agreed to that. Secondly, the lighting would not fix her lack of skill and the poor angle/distance she took the photos. Thirdly, her response shows how completely clueless and insensitive she was on the sentiment of a proposal. If you want high quality photos and someone to capture special moments, do NOT make the same mistake and hire Mimi as your photographer. I cannot express how effortless and easy Mimi was to work with! One of my smartest and BEST decision was to hire her to capture our wedding. My husband is especially camera shy and although I like taking pictures, we were in no way prepared to take "modeled" shots for our engagement and wedding photos. Mimi was so kind and patient giving us cues and what to do for our pictures to turn out great for each occasion. Mimi's wedding package was very reasonable compared to the other quotes I received. I can certainly understand why Mimi's mini sessions are booked before you can even blink- Mimi is super friendly, talented and patient. I've never met a photographer who understands and handles kids so well. In addition, she was responsive and timely in her communications. I couldn't get a mini session this year and I really wanted one by her last year, too. I decided to dig deep into the pockets to splurge for a regular session. I've been unable to shake my disappointment with the combination of pictures that we received. At the beginning of the shoot, my husband told Mimi the combinations of family members that we wanted to focus on for this shoot. She said she would get a large variety of shots. We let her do her thing and trusted her process. But upon reviewing the shots, I felt that she didn't really provide what we had asked for. She certainly delivered a large volume of photos, but I wish she took another minute to really communicate with us. It was hard for me to know during the session since things were moving really fast. I think she made assumptions, with the best intentions, that we wanted the combinations that she either thought we would be grateful for or that other clients would have wanted. As just one example, we have a lot (too many?) of photos with just one parent with the kids, but we didn't ask for that, nor were we looking to have those types of photos. We would have preferred more shots of the entire family or just the kids. I can understand someone wanting to cover the ground so that clients aren't disappointed that certain shots weren't taken. This was why we tried to mention this up front so that she wouldn't focus on the wrong types of photos. Unfortunately, we are lacking sufficient photos for what we requested, and we have few options to pick from the combinations we really wanted to capture, and that's not how we wanted to spend so much money. Finally, the lab who printed our pictures zoomed in and cut off the borders of the actual files. This was an added layer of disappointment because you could tell that Mimi creatively framed her photos, so to have those details cut off defeated the whole purpose of us even wanting to make those into prints. read more

We did an hour family session with our not so cooperative 11 month old son (who threw up on himself minutes before the shoot), a frazzled mommy and a dad who hates to take pictures. Mimi was still able capture so many beautiful images despite all of the challenges and got our edited photos back to us SO quickly. She's very professional, friendly and super easy to work with. I was looking for a photographer who would be able to capture my family now +1. Babies are never easy to deal with and there are days I can barely get one good photo out of my 4 month old so I was pretty worried. In comes Mimi! Her mini sessions offering was perfect because of the short attention span of the baby. All I wanted was a few nice photos for keepsakes and for a holiday card. Mimi was fantastic. She was super easy to book and easy to work with. She guided us in our poses with the baby (which wasn't easy at times), and found the perfect spot with gorgeous light pouring in between the trees. We were at a regular looking park but she somehow managed to find the most beautiful picture perfect spot. What surprised me most was how great with kids she was. I am so thrilled that we had the chance to work with Mimi Nguyen Photography. I have been following her work for years now. Although I have seen her work many times and I have met her personally, it was just a matter of time before we worked together. For my 6th wedding anniversary with my husband, I reached out to Mimi to see if we could shoot our little family to commemorate our special day as well as get a couple of head shots for my law firm. I messaged her via Facebook and she was very fast to respond. She was professional and thorough in all her responses. I instantly felt that she just cared about her clients and her profession as a photographer. We picked a date that worked for the both of us and off I went...shopping for clothes for my little family! On the day of the shoot, Mimi arrived early. She told us exactly where we should park and then where we should walk to meet her. She greeted us with a big smile and an uplifting energy. She made our family feel welcome right away. Mimi had shot at the OC Fair Grounds before so she already had locations picked out for us. It was nice to not have to worry about details and just let her professional experience guide us. During the shoot, Mimi sometimes directed us in order to get some really good shots (trust me - this is good when you want to make sure the spacing is right between the family) and also let us be free with our kids so that she can achieve candid shots. She was patient and smiling throughout the shoot. If you have ever shot with kids, you know how hard it is to get them to smile on cue...and two kids age 3 and 5 at the same time - forget about it!!! But Mimi helped us by coaching the kids and making them laugh. Further, young kids' attention span can be short. Mimi was so patient and even encouraged us to get ice cream to give the kids a break. It ended up being a great idea because we have cute photos of us and the kids enjoying the ice cream together!!! Mimi even stayed longer to make sure we got the shots we wanted. (I'm not promising that's what she'll do for everyone and maybe I got her on a good night where she didn't have dinner plans immediately thereafter). I felt bad about her wanting to stay longer to be with our family and snap away. But that really shows how great she is. She's passionate about her work!!!! I love that about her as I am a creative myself. I love working with others who really care about what they do and the results they achieve. It's not about just making the quick buck and then having us sail away. She cares about having a relationship with her clients after the fact. She has a heart for her job and I will be forever grateful for the photos she took of our family as they capture a special time in my marriage with my husband, and the innocent time of my kids. I cannot say it enough. I highly recommend Mimi. On another note, I think this is a very important note to make. Recommendations and referrals of professionals coming from real customers or those in the same industry is very important. It's one thing to find someone, i.e. a photographer, who has amazing photos online. Another aspect that is super important is **whether you will actually get your photos** and another point is **in a timely manner.** I used to work in the wedding industry for over 20 years as a makeup artist and hair stylist. My brides would book photographers they found online. They were not recommended by those in the wedding industry. Then after the wedding, I would hear from my brides that they never received their photos or when they did, it was 8 months or more later when the excitement of one's wedding (especially from family and friends) is no longer there. The most devastating news was when my brides would never received their photos. It was rare but those times did happen. It's a wedding day and a day you will never get back again. :( Thus, referrals are so important. Us, vendors, put our reputation on the line to refer another vendor. When we do, we are serious about that vendor. In this case, I highly recommend Mimi. I received beautiful photos from Mimi. They are perfect in every way and she was prompt to send them to me. Mimi Photography could be named Awesome and Amazing Photography, because that is what she is about and that's where your going to get. She kept great communication with us and answered a ton of questions we had about the photo shoot. Everything from what to wear, where to take the photos, etc, she provided us great information and feedback. During the photoshoot for our engagement photos, me and my fiance was a little nervous because we have never had professional photos taken of us. Mimi was extremely cool and eased our nerves. We hired Mimi recently for our son's 1 year birthday party and were totally glad we did! Not only were we able to enjoy our son's birthday and not have to worry about taking pictures, but Mimi was able to capture some of the greatest pictures that we probably would have missed! Not only did she take some awesome pics of our little one, but managed to take at least one picture (posed or candid) of every guest that came to the party - something that we didn't ask for, but she managed to do, which was a nice touch. Mimi herself was great to work with; very helpful, gentle, caring, put you at ease, never at all "in-your-face", but full of energy and spirit. (As an aside, when she got there we weren't quite ready and helped us blow up balloons.) Most of the time you didn't even know she was there, which was great. My husband and I hired Mimi for our wedding based on her highly rated Yelp reviews and the great impression she made when we met with her. We chose one of her photo packages, which included an engagement session, edited photos from the engagement session as well as the wedding, two shooters during the wedding, and a photo album. I originally didn't want to do an engagement session, but I'm so glad we did, as it gave us the opportunity to work with Mimi before the wedding. We got those photos back very quickly (about a week after the shoot), and they turned out beautifully. Mimi was really professional, punctual, friendly and easy to work with, and we appreciated the guidance she gave us during our two photoshoots. She told us what she wanted us to do without being bossy, and her directions were so helpful. We definitely remembered and used her advice during our wedding, and it made us feel more comfortable and confident. We also got a lot of compliments from our wedding party and guests, all of whom said great things about working with Mimi and her assistant. (I can't remember his name, but he was an excellent photographer and super nice, too.) Our venue didn't provide a full-service coordinator, so Mimi stepped in and kept us on schedule during the reception without being asked to do so. She did a wonderful job and everyone who has seen our wedding photos raved about how beautifully they turned out! Not only is she a great photographer, she's overall just a sweet and fun person to be around! She's genuine and easy to work with and it made our engagement shoot and wedding day go smoothly because we got so comfortable with her. She was also so patient with our dog Benny in making sure she got the perfect shot of him. She was one of our favorite vendors for our event and I would highly recommend her to any friend or family. My fiance and I just happened to be in California for another wedding the weekend prior. On a last minute whim, we decided to see if Mimi was available. Good fortune was on our side because Mimi was available and willing to help us pull something together fairly quickly. Even though our photo shoot was on Monday, and we didn't really have a chance to meet until Sunday, Mimi agreed to meet us the night before and get to know us, listen to our preferences, let us describe our vision for the perfect look. Since we did it all on a whim, we quickly realized how unprepared we really were, but Mimi helped set us up with a makeup artists and gave us a few ideas on what to expect. When we first met up with Mimi on the day of the shoot, we were a bit nervous, but once we started shooting, we realized we were in good hands. Mimi's shooting style is efficient and her instrutions/guidance is to the point without being pushy or aggressive. She really knew how to make us comfortable, put our minds at ease, and help us to relax and capture our intimacy through the lens. Mimi is thee most talented, gifted, outgoing, professional photographer that I have met. After being surprised with a boudoir photo session from my husband, I was so happy to see that Mimi was going to be my photographer. I have seen her work before and she is amazing! When I emailed Mimi to set up the photoshoot date, I felt like I already knew her. She was so quick with her responses and so easy going. So I knew that the session was going to be a blast. She would email me with a list of all hair stylist and make up artist just to ensure I get the full blown makeover. Mimi also prepared me for the photoshoot by giving me ideas of what to wear and what others have worn in her previous sessions.
