The…read more1587 Restaurant is located within the Tranquil House Inn and the dining room overlooks the marina, although if your number one priority was to dine with a water view, then there are better options for that. The dining room itself is intimate and quiet with a mix of smaller tables ideal for couples and some larger tables. Reservations are recommended as it is not a large dining room. The food was very good and the service was excellent. There is a nice selection of cocktails on the menu and some nice wine choices. The biggest negative - I felt that the meal was pricey for what we got but overall we enjoyed our dinner.

Also, my husband and I asked to share an appetizer and the portion was extremely generous, a nice touch! When it comes to the negatives, most of what I am going to point out has been mentioned previously in other reviews with the establishment ensuring efforts will be made for improvement. If I were to describe this place in a sentence I would say " fine dining with cheap gastro-pub atmosphere ". Waiting staff needs training in BASIC waiting skills such as, don't plop main course dishes on the table while guests are still eating their appetizers ( that was a first. never happened to us before ). Another faux pas , getting the bill while still enjoying our delicious desserts. Staff was running to and fro and in the relatively small space and it creates a chaotic atmosphere. The place is also extremely loud but diners tend to speak loudly at restaurants, very different in Europe. Finally, I made this reservation a few weeks ago to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. A big deal. From the website I was expecting fine dining with a refined atmosphere where guests are treated with careful attention to details . These simple courtesies make all the difference but unfortunately they are lacking. If the food is great but the overall experience is not, you won't remember the food, you'll remember the experience.

I've been here with a party of 12 before, and we definitely waited a while, but I was impressed that they were able to accommodate a group that size. This time, I was with a party of two and we were seated pretty quickly. My one complaint about the wait system is that they announce when your table is ready, but if you're out of earshot, you'll miss it. It would be nice if they used a text, call, or buzzer system so you could walk down to the beach while you wait. Part of the pier seating is covered, but the farther you go out, the more exposed you are. We were seated near the end, so it was hot in the direct sun and very windy. But that comes with the territory, and the views make it worth it. There are also plenty of birds hoping you'll share your fries with them, which is both expected and pretty funny. We each ordered a Pain Killer. It was good at first, but it quickly became watered down, and I didn't think it was worth $10. We also got the nachos, but the price adds up quickly once you start adding toppings. Most of the menu is very à la carte. The prices seem reasonable at first, but sides and toppings can add up fast. The burgers don't come with fries, for example. We both got the West Coast Burger. It was good, but nothing particularly memorable. Service was attentive and generally friendly. Overall, Fish Heads is one of the better dining options in the area. The pier setting and views really make the experience unique. I enjoy coming here and will likely be back.

We were unofficially judging grilled cheese and mac and cheese all week, and this one absolutely held its own. I ordered the Smash Burger Pizza, and I was skeptical until the first bite. It somehow captures all the flavors of a really good smash burger, complete with the tangy "special sauce" flavor, pickles, beef, cheese, and onions, but on a wood-fired pizza crust. It sounds a little ridiculous on paper. It works. I also accidentally ordered one of their cannabis-infused cocktails because I apparently skipped over an important word on the menu. It did exactly what it promised without sending me into another dimension, which was appreciated. The only downside was that I spent the rest of the evening happily eating leftover Smash Burger Pizza and wondering why anyone would order anything else. The atmosphere was laid back, the service was friendly, and we'll always say anything positive about anyone who helps take care of our sweet little one. We'd happily come back the next time we're in Manteo. Don't let the current rating scare you away. We almost did, and we'd have missed out on one of our favorite meals of the trip.

The Pretzel was good, no doubt about that. All of the breads were very fresh. Unfortunately, everything got worse after the appetizer pretzel at our table. The hot honey on the New Yorker Down South functioned more like a sticky grease. But if not for the honey, I don't think I would've tasted anything at all. The service wasn't good either. Our waitress appeared to be getting frustrated just by those at our table asking questions. The only time she lit up was when she bragged about the two smash burger ideas she came up with that made the menu. She wasn't terrible, but maybe I'm just being nice considering I felt us being there was an inconvenience to her. When someone at our table asked to add lettuce and tomato to their burger, she replied that this isn't a build your own burger place and that she works at the Lost Colony where you can do that...but not here. It was odd. My family has gluten allergies which sucks...but when we asked if any desserts were gluten free she said the tart was the only one she was aware of. It might have been, but saying "aware of" led me to believe there could possibly be others but she didn't know and wasn't asking. Ok, I convinced myself, the service was bad. In fact, the place was practically empty and they stuck all 7 of us in a booth. My daughter who is extremely gluten sensitive has to cut off a piece of her pizza because the waitress bumped it against mine when she put it on the table. In her defense, we had no room for it. When the waitress brought back my youngest daughters Smash Burger (because they didn't put cheese or mayo on it) she could only fit half the plate on the table. So my 8 year old ate off a plate with half the plate dangling off the side...bizarre. I'm giving 2 stars because I believe the meal could've been better. Living in a family with gluten allergies and having none...I get how it can be frustrating (apologies to those gluten free...I get that it's way more frustrating for you). I'd probably stick with a pretzel, order a standard smash burger & do the beer sampler. If you're driving over 15 minutes to get here, probably safest to try somewhere else.

It's truly a hidden gem tucked away in the edge of the water. To start, parking was easy and we grabbed a spot right near the door. Follow the road until the edge of the water and the restaurant is tucked right there. It's nestled at the edge of the marina which provides some great views while you're enjoying your meals. The menu is simple but each meal has its own flare - the southern vibe is present and done really well. We started with fried green tomatoes and the corn dip - both of which we slammed before I could even catch a picture. From there, we had tacos with the fish of the day (tuna), the French dip and the grilled cheese. Everything was amazing and perfectly crafted with care. We loved that the tacos were assemble your own too which was an added bonus. The sweet potato fries were also some of the best I've had and are made with fresh potatoes. Our server was kind and attentive throughout. She gave great insight to the menus and helped us select our choices. We also ran into the owners closer to the end of our meal and they were beyond kind. It's clear that this is a family run and deeply cared for place. All that love shines through in everything they craft. This place is a gem and a must go. We'd be back frequently if we lived closer!!
