First off, google said the pier house restaurant was open and good for kids, but as it turns out, it's only open for breakfast. We were very confused. We weren't sure if kids were allowed at captain andys but the host said it was fine. The male host was the nicest person there and he should've been the one running the place because our waitress wasn't good at her job at all. The calamari was just ok but not very tender. It was very windy in the restaurant so stuff was blowing everywhere. We had two grilled cheeses, fries, a bbq sandwich and a shrimp po boy and it took over an hour to get our food. Service was very slow, it was not a warm or friendly environment. They're more dedicated to getting people drunk. A guy near our table was loudly talking on the phone and using profanity. I'm a local who has never been to the nags head pier. My friends and I recently decided to try it and we have not been disappointed. We have been here several times in the last couple weeks. Raquel has been out bartender each time. She is friendly, engaging, very responsive when we set our cans at the end of the bar. Very limited food service hours, but our bartender Mike was super nice. We were 2 of maybe 10 people at most that were in there, but that is a good size place. While you are visiting, you can pay $3 to sightsee down the pier and watch all the fishing happening. That's pretty cool. read more

Great happy hour deals with steamed shrimp and wings. This isn't a fancy place, but the food was good and cheap and the beer was cold.

Not what it use to be! Looked on the website and they had a full menu. Sandwiches and meals. Got there and they had only a few choices for food. We ordered the fish basket and the shrimp basket. They were both terrible! The fish basket was frozen fish sticks and the shrimp basket was frozen grocery store shrimp! Awful, don't advertise what you don'T have. Today was our first time stopping in. We rode in on the motorcycle, and they have parking up front blocked off from cars, which is always a plus when you ride. It's attached to the pier, and you go in through the pier shop. We were seated super quick. No wait, but I'm sure there are times they have one. The waitress was really friendly and got our drinks quickly. There wasn't much of a wait on the food either. We ordered wedge salad each, and mini crab balls, shrimp cocktail, and the fried clam basket to share. Every was SO good!! The salads were huge. Way bigger than a normal "wedge". The lettuce was fresh and crisp. The crab balls were perfect, and came with a dipping sauce that we loved. The shrimp were larger and good. The clams were fried perfectly, and even better dipped in the crab ball sauce. (Seriously, ask for it!) Definitely 5 star material! We can't wait to go back! read more

Cool spot to grab a drink at the end of a beach day. My rating of a 3 is because everything was just "okay." There are great views and lots of drink options. Our food highlights were the crab dip & Cesar Salad. Service was incredibly slow with it even being not a busy time of day and the side of coleslaw wasn't large enough to be worth getting. We stopped here to check out the pier and get a few drinks. We only got 1 drink each because they were not good at all. My sangria tasted terrible, it tasted like they mixed cheap with with seltzer then tossed some fruit in a plastic cup. I forgot what my boyfriend got, but I took a sip and it was very strong and tasted strange. I noticed every cup was single use plastic and that seemed to be a little strange since we're so close to the ocean. Typically restaurants close to the ocean are trying to reduce their waste and not use plastic. The upside is we got a free walk on the pier its connected to. I gave this place 3 stars because the service was good and everyone was very friendly. I hope this place improves their drinks and makes an effort to reduce their waste. read more

Went there to eat nice meal by the sea. Instead, had over salted, horrible shrimp and grits. Waitress was not rude nor kind. To make matters worse, I swatted a cockroach, what I thought to be a bug, off my neck. I just stopped eating and left. Love this place for happy hour. 15 cent shrimp & .25 wings Monday thru Friday starting from 3-5. Also have a daily drink specials. There is inside & outside dining & an incredible view of the beach & ocean & of Nags Head Pier. You can walk on the peer for a small fee $3. So our food came out in about 15 minutes. Still ok except NO CONDIMENTS. No mustard or ketchup, no salt/pepper. We caught her on her way to another table to ask for these things. 10 MINUTES to get us a bottle of rancid ketchup and some mustard. We didn't see her until we had finished our meal. The view is amazing and the only thing that truly attracted us to the restaurant. We started off with mozzarella sticks and hush puppies. The mozzarella sticks were so good and the hush puppies were average. This gave us a good impression on what the food would come out as but man were we wrong. One person ordered the wedge salad with sesame tuna on top. It came out with no tuna on it but when we were given the tuna, it was fishy. The manager was less then accommodating because she did not compensate at all for this monstrosity. We also ordered the pulled pork bbq sandwich and it was gross. There was no sauce or anything on it. It was served on a hamburger bun which was not great. We also ordered the popcorn shrimp basket and the chicken tender basket. Both were fine but nothing special. We believe the only thing keeping this less than mediocre restaurant in business is it's location because it sits right on the ocean. Unbelievable! We've been coming in for the past several years to eat and watch football on one of 8 HD TV's. Beautiful venue with decent food and good draft beer. Today, we checked to be sure they'd be open for the VT game. The cashier says they're open but didn't think the TV's were working?? I then asked the female manager and she confirms by curtly stating "the TVs cost money, sir,". as if I might not know that. Bottom line, they dumped the cable service, didn't bother letting the customers know, and then have a tude about it when asked. They're probably short term anyway but rest assured we won't darken their doorstep again unless and until the games are back on. read more

Explanation of 1 star review: It took FOREVER to get our food. We waited about and hour and a half after we ordered for it to come out and asked 3 times if it was on the way. Then it was cold and gross. Some of my party's food was tasty they said, but about half of us refused to eat our meals. The waitress was completely incompetent and rude. We had to order drinks multiple times to get some of them and she was giving us attitude the entire time. We could see them at the bar, getting cold, waiting to be served. After we ordered one round of drinks and two appetizers she told us we couldn't split the check because it would be too confusing for her. It did not appear that they were under staffed either. When we told the manager of our troubles and how the service was really poor, our waitress overheard us, and gave us more attitude in front of the manager. She apparently thought she was doing a great job, and gave us a lot of back talk in front of the manager... He didn't seem to notice the attitude she was giving us. The bathrooms were gross and totally weird. If you are a guy you will have to pee with some other guy rubbing up against your shoulder at the urinal next to you. In the end, after a good amount of complaining the GM did comp our food, which was the only form of professionalism we were showed. After the whole experience it was the least he could have done, but at least someone there has their head on straight. I will never go back unfortunately. The scenery is amazing. Fun new addition to the Nags Head Pier. 30 beers on tap and live music almost every night during the season. Food choices are a little limited, but tasty. The view of the Atlantic Ocean is awesome with a true open air experience. At night it is really cool as the neon lights are arranged to provide a cool, almost dive bar feel. But this is definitely not a dive bar. Good mix of locals and tourists too. Bored sitting down? Walk out on the beach and you can still hear the band, however the Town won't allow mixed drinks off of the Pier property. Full ABC however I didn't stray from the beer. read more

Went on a Thursday night to watch Redskins preseason football. I had low expectations because of the reviews. Unfortunately they met expectations. I really wanted to like this place and I Come down here 2x a year And I won't be going back to andys. If not for the view/location I can't imagine anyone going. Service - not too bad. For a beach bar it was ok Food - not great. Compared to other similar places, like fish heads this was below average Vibe - crowded with huge awkward furniture. You couldn't walk anywhere. So when we walked in we were told to seat ourselves. No big deal, well 15 mins go by and no one comes to table, another couple comes and sits at the table next to us and within a min a waitress comes over brings them menus and takes their drink order, and then take off on in the opposite direction before I could get her attention, so I went back inside(since we were sitting on the deck) and told one of the waiters we have been there for 20 mins and no service, about a min later he came out and took care of us for the rest of the night. This Labor Day weekend was my first time at OBX. Andy's was my most disappointing meal of the entire trip. I had popcorn shrimp basket with fries and hush puppies. This popcorn shrimp was the nastiest I have ever had. Too much breading and it was still doughy. Fries were whatever and the pups were fine. We were having a great time before the food and the way too loud horrible live music. The staff was nice but disorganized. We had a bus boy clear our table before we even got our food so we didn't have silverware until after we got our food and had to tell the waitress. By far, the worst restaurant experience of my life .....I would go as far as saying that the servers blatantly lie and could be viewed as fraudulent...... First of all, the wait staff is rude, and seemed bothered by our presence....they are totally disorganized and clueless as to what the term "customer service" means, the same two incompetent servers repeatedly came up and asked us if anyone had waited on us yet. Finally we got our drinks, and afterwards received our pathetic excuse of food. My fiancée and I both ordered salads topped with crabcake ( should be called the 'non crab crabcake), at time of order the server proceed to tell us they were out of "mixed greens" for regular salads, the only salad available was ceasar, as the only lettuce they had was "romaine", we asked if we could get regular salads, substituting the mixed greens with romaine, the server agreed. It took over an hour to get our food, the salads were not palatable, and both our salads were missing red onion, olives and tomato wedges as advertised, and to add insult to injury the salads arrived with MIXED GREENS, not the romaine, I assume that the server was very aware of the fact they were out of the items necessary for the advertised items and simply lied to us in order to make a sale, as it was the salad was pathetic and the so called crabcake was nothing more than flavored wet crackers, all pathetic, my fiancée and I took a few bites and did not eat the food, she called the manager over who started arguing with me and discounted the bill a whopping $3, I ended up paying $42 for food we did not eat nor did we drink the second round of drinks, if the food had arrived on time, we would not have ordered a second round of drinks. Trust me if you go there, it will ruin your day, you are better off getting a prepared salad from the supermarket than this garbage. I feel totally ripped off and defrauded. read more
