I've been going to Mimi's for over a year straight for color gel, SNS, LCN and they've always been welcoming with lots of loyal local and out of town customers. I honestly didn't want to write this review, but I felt it was important to share my experience. On my last visit, I felt pressured to keep my nails and add color when I just wanted a break. Even her husband started talking to me about the quality of LCN. I thought it was light conversation, but it felt more like a sales pitch. My nails sometimes feel weak after removal, and I wanted a break (and to go boxing!). Removal was $15 for cutting, filing, shaping, buffing, and cuticle oil. Adding polish is an extra $15, and basic manicures already start at $15. I skipped the polish and will do clear at home. It's one thing to keep customers happy and accommodating, but it's another to also be understanding when a regular customer just wants to go basic even if they've been consistent with business. Mimi did check in with me after, which I appreciated, but feeling pressured doesn't make me want to return. I do like this nail salon and hope for a more understanding experience next time. I usually come here for gel pedi because I like to do gel mani myself. Many of the staff here have mediocre (at best) skill sets (other than Helen). I got a gel pedi by Yoyo today and the below were my encounters with her. 1. When cutting cuticles, she nipped me multiple times and eventually it became painful. 2. I asked for Opi white gel polish and the final result was blotchy. The color was uneven and she didn't even catch that. 3. There were some hard dots on top of the gel after she applied the top coat, she didn't see it (or pretended not to see it, I don't know). I called it out that the polish had hard bumps and she said "oh I didn't even feel it" Overall, you have to monitor the process if you come here to have nails done because you might walk out with either blotchy gel or uneven nail surface. read more

Mimi's gets really busy even on a Thursday at 11am so I highly recommend to make an appointment. Everyone at Mimi's is super welcoming and friendly. I was always iffy about getting pedicures bc I was worried about the cleanliness of the foot tubs and the nail tools but my sister-in-law told me assured me that they're clean. I arrived probably around 6pm on a Saturday. They place was extremely packed and there were other women waiting as well. It was Mimi's husband who greeted us, asked us what we needed done then told us to pick out our color. I saw only OPI and Essie brands which are both really good brands. After waiting about 20 mins or so, we were finally seated, and they sat us together so we can both talk. They use plastic bags to wrap the tub, and I saw them take out the nail tools from a wrapped package...also, they had disposable foot scrubber pads. The price of a pedicure is $18... It's been a while since I got my last pedicure (2011). I saw a news article from 2011, about the place, saying how good it was and saw that back in 2011, the price of a pedicure was $16, so the price has gone up but not that much, which is pretty good. I definitely should be treating myself more often and definitely will come back to this place knowing that they're clean. The only issue I had was that I still had some skin that's around my pinky toe and she didn't clip it off but she might not have felt it since my skin was soft from being soaked in water. read more

Horrible experience here! Just an FYI to any African American customers or darker complexion customers, they will make you pay first before the service is even done. The owners are very thorough with keeping with COVID guidelines (take temps, wear gloves, glass screens in between each station and between you and the nail technician). And the nail technicians who have worked with me were amazing! They took care of my cuticles, and they were very meticulous with the way they shaped my nails. I've never been to an establishment where the owner was so present and gets their hands dirty when need be. This place gets very crowded and fast but Mimi has stepped in and massaged and scrubbed some feet when it gets busy. Came in today for a spa pedi and it was good. So it's with a heavy heart that I write this review. Let's get one thing out of the way - they give a great mani/pedi. I've never had a problem with nails here. They're very friendly and Mimi is very nice and sweet. Nail review: a consistent 4 out of 5 stars. But this review is about the waxing service I got yesterday, which unfortunately was not great. I got my chin waxed, which is something I only do once every 6 months or so to keep it smooth, and the woman quite literally ripped my skin off. I now have three scabs on my chin that are very ugly and embarrassing. I told her as she was doing it that it hurt and she just laughed at me, which I told her I didn't appreciate. It didn't look this bad until a couple hours later, when it and scabbed over and it looks like a light bruise has formed as well. I'm pretty embarrassed about it, as no woman likes to admit to having her chin waxed, so now I have to make up some excuse about how I scratched myself or something. My days of waxing at Mimi's are definitely over. read more

I'm getting a manicure. They told me that if I'm getting a pedicure or another service, it reduces chances of me causing a spread. They take the gloves off when the manicurist starts. They wipe every chair whenever anyone gets up. They put towels on your shoulders when they massage your neck. I dropped my cell Phone and the manager wiped it off for me. In Brooklyn, Mimi's has the best quality mani and pedi service. Everytime I do my manicure and pedicure, it always lasts the longest. The quality is really better than the other nail shops around the area. For the price they charge (when thinking about the quality), it's reasonable. I have been coming here for a few years, and have not once encountered any problems. They also offer a lot more different nail polish and gel colors, compared to other nail salons. They are also very clean, and the service is top notch. The manicurists, especially the Chinese ladies and one Spanish lady, always does an excellent job and are super friendly. If you ask for nail art, I don't think they do a good job. Highly recommended! They are always busy because customers always come back to them, so just be patient and wait. After a friend recommended Mimi's to me for an awesome spa pedicure before giving birth, I decided to make an appointment on Thursday 7/28. From the moment I walked into the salon for my 11am appointment, Mimi and nearly her entire staff greeted me with warm smiles. She seated me right away to cool off (85+ degrees & high humidity & a 9 months preggo = sweaty hot mess) until a pedicure chair opened up. I chose the Mango Spa Pedicure for $45 and it felt absolutely amazing ! The most stress free and relaxing 45-60 minutes ! (There was also 2 Pokestops within range of the nail salon which was a major plus !) The spa pedicure includes a 15 minutes foot massage which was much needed for me. I forgot to ask for my nail lady's name, but she was so patient with me. She helped me pick a great OPI Hello Kitty light pink color for my gel manicure ($25). She was also very patient with me when I kept trying to text my girlfriend whom I found out was in labor ! I felt so bad that she had to keep telling/reminding me to put my hand in to dry my nails a little first before she can put on the next layer. I left Mimi's with a very satisfied gel manicure and spa pedicure. Definitely $70 well spent ! Fast forward to Friday and I scraped/chipped my gel nails on my left middle finger while shaving (not an easy task when you're 39 weeks pregnant). I went into Mimi's around 3pm today (Satuday 7/30) and even though they were very packed and busy, Mimi personally helped me fix my polish. Not only did she not charge me extra, but she also told me anytime something happens to come back right away. If I could, I would give Mimi's another 5 stars for their excellent customer service. Got a pedicure done here tonight with my friend and we literally had such a good time! The girls are so funny I had Lily but I didn't get to see the name of the other girls we interacted with. The man who greeted us was also totally cool and they had a nice selection of nail colors and I just felt so welcome here. I'll definitely be back even though I'm located in Queens the drive is definitely worth it. As for COVID measures, all the other reviews are accurate they made me feel very comfortable everyone was wearing a mask and all the customers had their masks covering their nose and mouth as were the nail techs. I used to adore this place but a couple of the employees have been lacking. I paid $35 dollars for a powder dip manicure and the employee Amila was very disgruntled. While there, another customer refused to get her nails done by her and I was placed with her instead. That should have been a red flag for me. Amila rushed through process and the final top coat is lumpy. She was in a rush to go home and tried to blame me when the top coat was not dry. I'm paying for a service, you have to make sure the top coat is dry before sending me to wash my hands. A word of caution, be super wary of the oil they rub on your nails at the end. I suspect they do this to cover their tracks because I wasn't able to see a lot of the defects until I got home. Ultimately, I'm disappointed with what I got. There are a ton of salons in Bay Ridge and I'm sad I'll have to stop visiting this one because of a few bad apples.
