I walked in today to get my nails done and while seated, there was nail dust all over the chairs and the manicure tables. The man who was going to do my nails took dirty tools out of an open autoclave bag, pulled out a dirty used up file and didn't even clean his area. I have been in the industry for over 15 years and this place is a health hazard! I even told him I was in the industry, but he didn't care and decided that unsanitary standards were okay! Please do not get services here, it could be a risk to your nail health. I practically ran away as fast as I could... my husband was trying to do something nice to me and it was a nightmare. This nail place has been here for 1 year they said. So much has changed. Every color I said I wanted they had excuse why I couldnt have. The nails were ok just they were to long and not shinny. I asked if I could get extra gel and he said no because this was enough. I like my nails super shinny. Nope not here. The less people that come the more the prices goes up. I asked how much for all my nails he said 38 but when I went up to pay he said 40 now I said why he said for gel finish! I was so pissed never will go back here. Since mimis this place is questionable. They want customers to come to spend money but dont treat them like they matter. Change of toe nail color is 8 for reg and 20 for gel. Thats without pedicure. Really? Dont come here if you are tired of being ripped off. The nails dont even look any different from anywhere else! Plus the one guy in his language said she want free everything? Leelee & Mimi are my 2 favs here. They always do a great job on both fingers and toes. I usually do shellac on both and it always lasts 2 weeks on fingers and 1 month on my toes. Definitely work the cost. My only suggestion is.... If they ask u, or if u ask for an "extra" like white tips, callus remover... make sure u ask what the additional charge will be! I've been going here for years & I still get surprises in the final cost bc I added something and didn't realize it... They won't always tell u before they do it & that ticks me off. I just have one thing to say to every one. Don't look at it with your eyes and believe it to be true, and just like you are looking at disparaging comments and won't go to this place to do a nail? Everyone knows that many nail builders don't know a lot of English, why not sympathize with them, just like you go to a country of Idian or China to play but you don't know the language of that country. So I called Mimi's yesterday to see if they do Shellac pedicure. The lady tells me yes $35. I said ok, can I come now? She told me yes, so I told her I was on my way. When I showed up a woman was just showing up for work helped me in the massage chair and I told her I had shellac on my toes. So she went in grabbed a drill. Which I thought was odd, usually other places just soak it off. So she drills the shellac off my toes. I told her I just wanted a basic pedicure with the shellac again. I picked out the color I wanted off the board and she went to work scrubbing my feet and trimming my nails and such. Then she started to do the shellac, when she would get extra shellac on the edges of my toe nail she would use her own nail to clean it off.. EWWW! So unsanitary! Not sure if her hands were clean or her nails were clean because she used gloves doing everything else. Her nails were sharp and it would sometimes hurt when she used her nail to clean up mine. I got to thinking, I'm glad I'm her first client, she probably does this all day long and ends up with all kinds of colors on her thumb nail. Other than that she did a good job, I won't be back though. I ended up being charged $41, instead of the $35 I was quoted. $41 is a lot for a Shellac pedi in my opinion. read more

So, I came across this nail salon because I was in a rush to fix my nail situation. I yelped a few places that were close to me and read some reviews and ratings. I heard great things about Mimi's and some not so great, but nonetheless I gave it a shot. But, let me back up a bit. I initially went to Tina's Nails at around 3pm (I previously worked next door and have always heard positive feedback) but they were backed up until 5. As I said before, it was somewhat of a nail emergency, and I didn't want to wait. As I sat in that parking lot I dialed Mimi's across the street and it turned out they were fully staffed and ready for a walk in. I never noticed the place before because it was sort of hidden behind that Shell and Staples. Well, let me say that I am glad to have found this gem. Off top, I noticed the cleanliness and friendless of the staff. I was greeted almost immediately by a friendly woman, named Ann (station four) who had asked me what I planned on getting. I told her how I wanted flat black and she recommended to add a little pop with it as well. I went with her decision and left extremely happy with the results. My main point, and the reason why I will be back is that this lovely woman made me feel at home, and I wasnt a regular.. I've never been at that salon once in my life. We were talking about a bunch of different things and she stops for a brief second, to pull up a video on her iPad about some crazy talking dog.. I mean, it was hilarious and so unexpected for someone to do in such a quiet environment. It was hilarious. She also welcomed me back for future appointments in a very caring way. Maybe she was just trying to get clients, maybe she was just being herself. Either way, she's got my clientele! Thanks Ann! I forgot to mention before that before this, almost every salon I've been to completely disappointed me. this is my go to nail salon. They always do my nails good, they are reliable, and the gel nail from here stays perfect for about three weeks. I highly recommend this salon over others. I'm not sure at how good they are at the complicated stuff, but their basic gel acrilic and painted nails are great. read more

First time here to treat my daughter (11years old) and myself to gel manis. DISAPPOINTED. For $25 plus tip each, not a good value when polish is sloppy and both of our nails chipped the next day. She's 11 and super small nails, the lady finished her nails in half the time of my mani so $25 seems a little much. Of course Mimi was kind enough to repair for free, but when I went in to replace the original MESS of a full set, she just slapped them on and made a mess of my hands! I went in to have gel nails done. She does not push back the cuticles before appyling the gel so they are more likely to lift. The shaping is horrible. There were areas on my nail that had little or no gel on them and other areas that had lumps there was so much. I was there for a while since gels take time, so I was able to watch how they took care of other customers. I heard the woman next to me complain about how they were doing her acrylic nails. I also watched them with pedicure clients. You could tell there would be a long wait, but they would tell people "ok, pick a color. Be about 5 minutes." and they would leave them sitting there for more than 30. I understand when you are a walk in you will need to wait, but be honest about the time frame. And they when you see how quickly they complete a pedicure, just to get to the next client, it's terrible. New York Nails on Sylvan is great for pedicures, I just wish they did my gel wraps. read more

I am a regular at a different salon, but the acrylics lady was not in today. I took a chance on trying Mimi's for the first time and I was very unsure of how I would like it. I wanted white rounded/almond shaped nails. I was pleasantly surprised when they turned out perfectly! I absolutely love them. The staff was very friendly and the salon is very clean. I had the worst experience. I made an appointment 3 weeks ago to go with the bridal party of my sisters wedding. We showed up and had to wait 45 minutes for anyone to even walk over to us. Then they tried to separate us, even though at the time of reservation I specifically asked for us to be together. They were not organized at all. My appointment didn't even matter. It is now under a new owner not to sure how long it's been but I have been going to Mimi's off and on over 8 years or so. Ok I make a appointment for full set and pedi. Full set was crazy looking I filed my own nails down to normal looking acrylic nails while i was getting my pedi she cut me and my toe got some kind of fungus a day later. My big toe was bright red itchy and felt like it was on fire it burned and itched so bad I was mad at my husband for suggesting to do something nice for myself. Go relax get your nails done come home with pretty toes, I did and my toe was jacked up after I came back with an infection. I was freaking out because a few years ago FLESH EATING BACTERIA was going around nail salons with the spa pedicure chairs. They were not sanitizing them properly. The tubs where the feet go was getting scrubbed but the pipes were not. I guess where the water drains and comes in the tub had the FLESH EATING BACTERIA in the pipes and contaminated the pedicure. They were suppose to let the the whole thing sit for 24 hours and soak in disinfectant or bleach. Well if you think about it they would lose big money by only doing one pedi a day with each chair and then let I soak for 24 hours. I have 3 girls and want to take them to do spa dates with mommy but I am really scared that something worse might happen to them. Have you ever been there on busy days where they tell every one to come in at the same time and people are waiting for pedi's? When they wash out the tub for the next person they rush and just rinse it out and don't sanitize it. It takes to much time. People are backed up waiting like damn cattle. Just watch the next time you sit around waiting. Maybe things changed, but I know I didn't have an infection when I got there and she did cut me bad enough to be in pain after word and contract a fungus from the tools or spa water having germs floating from the previous pedi's and lack of sanitation. I am a HUGE fan of this salon. The staff is friendly and efficient. They take appointments and somehow manage to make the walk ins feel just as special. The pedicures are by far the best I've ever had. I live 30 minutes away and won't go to another salon. Originally recommended to me by a friend who was told by her husband's foot doctor that they have meticulous sanitary standards. If you go, make sure you get the hot wax treatment. You will love it! As with the previous reviewer, I think the location is kind of hidden behind the gas station, but they are a hidden gem. They recently redecorated the salon to a more contemporary design while still keeping a little Asian flair. You will love them. read more

I've been here many times before and the service has been fine. However, my cousin and I came in today to get pedicures. We were initially asked to wait 15 minutes because there were 3 to 4 pedicures being done and that is completely fine, that is a decent wait time. But we were waiting for a very long time & there was poor communication. After almost 30 mins of waiting, an employee said they "ran out of liners and someone had gone to get it" and asked if we could wait "a few more minutes". We said we would wait thinking it wasn't that long but at that point it was not worth it because we had been waiting for almost an hour. We ended up leaving without pedicures and there were no updates or communication about anything. It was a waste of both of our times and personally, I don't think I will be back again. They could have offered an incentive or some type of coupon for us to be back again since we literally waiting so long with only 2 verbal updates about anything. read more

I used to be a big fan of this place, but unfortunately if you're just going for a quick and simple manicure, you are not worth their time. I was treated so poorly, and overlooked on two occasions. I was there before two other clients who were going to get pedicures, they were taken before me and by people who were doing manicures...they literally went from their mani station to the pedi station. I usually get gel but was so short on time that day. Bottom line if they can't treat all clients the same, then I'll find another place....there's about 50 in Modesto, keep that in mind Mimi's. I'm not sure if this place has new owners or what's the deal but they have really changed. For the bad. My daughter and I just got manis and pedis and they were rushing us to pick a color and were not friendly at all. The woman doing my nails never spoke and hardly looked at me. I have been coming here for a few years and I didn't recognize most of the staff. The weather is nearly 90 degrees outside and they did not have the A/C on. I was hot in there. My daughter came with tennis shoes on and they didn't even offer her the pedi flip flops at the end thank goodness I had flip flops in the car or else her pedi I just paid for would have been ruined. I think their prices went up too. I got a simple shellac manicure no designs no embellishing and a classic pedi, my daughter just got polish on her fingernails no trimming or grooming just polish and a simple pedi that must have took them 15 min. Out the door it was $75. That's more than I remember. It just didn't seem like the old Mimi's. I will not be coming here again. read more
