Now, this is good chicken...roasted Peruvian style. Third visit, but it's been a year or so. Half Chicken with long grain rice cooked with garlic and corn. Spicy ailoi is a nice condiment. A good deal for $12. If you are local and used to Huli Huli Chicken...this rotisserie chicken is for you. Rico Rico Chicken uses birds free of hormones and is right up there with the local rotisserie. Located on South King Street next to Moiliili Field...their food truck is parked on the side where metered stalls are...just before Longs Drugs entrance.

Finally got to try Rico Rico Chicken today! It's a small trailer painted in red that is parked at the park next to Longs Moili'ili. I have driven by so many times and wondered about it. I think they are there Tuesday-Friday and Sunday. This Peruvian style chicken is super moist and flavorful. It is also so tender that flimsy biodegradable plastic forks can cut thru it! Comes with long grain rice and a spicy mayo. Half a chicken plate is $12, full chicken is $20. Pictured is half a chicken, which is two meals for me. I might add this to my lunch rotation but just order the rico rico chicken and pack a salad or some kinda grain. Worth pulling over for! Location: King Street and Coolidge. Ready by 11:00 am. Recommend you pre-order at (808) 271-6474.

Near Longs McCully on King Street, Rico Rico Chicken is shiny trailer/food truck visible when driving by. You order right outside of the stand in the window. While it can feel bustling on King Street outside, the service is quick, and it seems like a well-oiled machine inside. There is some parking on the street or if you are heading to Longs anyway, it is very close. The owner, Carlos, is friendly, down to earth, and great at engaging with his customers. While we have heard there are empanadas sometimes during the week, we mainly have gone on the weekends. We get the chicken, which is about $20. While it seems pricey, a whole chicken lasts a few meals. About 2-3 meals per chicken, which is not bad for $20-ish. The chicken comes with rice, corn, and a yellow sauce. The chicken itself is flavorful and packed with herbs and spices. While it does not require the yellow sauce, the sauce is SO good. It is like a really good mustard. It is not mustard though, it has a less acidic taste. The rice and corn (mixed together) are also good. They have some flavor and compliment the chicken well with some of the sweetness from the corn.

    Whole chicken!

Are you a fan of Costco's rotisserie chicken? (Of course you are, duh, why else would you be on this business's page LOL). Then let me introduce you to Rico Rico Chicken! I've seen several posts about this place raving about their mouth-watering chicken and I had waiting for the chance to go. Their hours are a little funny so pay attention to that before visiting on a whim, but I managed to squeeze in some time on a Sunday. Rico Rico Chicken is kinda like a food truck stand that's normally found on the makai side of Mo'ili'ili park, just before Longs Drugs on King Street, can't miss it. For parking, you can either drive right up to it or park Longs and walk over. Being just myself, I was just going to order a half chicken plate knowing full well it would still last me at least 2 meals. However, the friendly owner was very convincing and persuaded me into getting the whole chicken and I'm so glad that he did. I mean, look at that beauty! Idk what all the seasoning is but the chicken was beautifully spiced, absolutely tender and moist, and was super hot and fresh! This thing lasted me 3 meals and would've lasted me 4 but I had to eat as much as I could while it was still piping hot! I believe the sauce is a yellow pepper sauce, I do like the slight spice to it but I'm not a huge fan because it has a mayo like taste. Nothing wrong with it, just not my personal preference. But trust me, the seasoning on top the chicken skin is more than enough flavoring! I heard this guy sells out fast so either order ahead or get there early!

Variety is certainly the spice in life and Rico Rico has that covered on his Peruvian Rotisserie Chicken incredibly! Who hasn't seen the shiny trailer's permanent fixture on South King Street right along Mōiliili Neighborhood Park though I always see it closed which I can understand why as this Latinx-owned business runs four days a week (Tue, Wed, Fri & Sun 11am to 2:45pm) and from chatting with other regulars I'm told if you have his number you could find out if he's open to order in advance because he sells out on the regular. As times are tough so is the menu as it's been condensed to two plates a full or half chicken and it comes with rice not exactly sure what kind as it was on the dry though I did enjoy it, no corn like many says but a side of pepper sauce that looks like mustard but it's a slight spicy pepper which is a good accompaniment though the true star of the show...Rotisserie Chicken is excellent on it's own. Fresh never frozen chicken without any antibiotics, hormones or steroids the price speaks for itself of the quality and time he puts into his products. I was delighted to have the perfect timing to give Rico Rico Chicken a try. Thank you!

    Whole chicken plate $22

I drive past this cart (King St & Coolidge, across Kahai Street Kitchen and right before CVS) nearly every day and I finally saw it open when I passed it so I made a U-turn and came back! And with only 2 choices (1/2 chicken plate $13, or full chicken plate $22) there's not really much to decide. The plate comes with this rice/corn side, but the chicken is the real star of the show. I know, you must be thinking that's ridiculous to pay $22 but newsflash: everywhere is expensive now, and this stuff tastes way better than the Costco chickens (which are stuffed with brine/sugar/who knows what else!). This IS the best rotisserie chicken! I got the whole chicken plate and nearly ate the entire chicken myself, it was juicy and the skin was crispy and full of flavor. The chicken is heavily spiced but not spicy or too salty, the yellow dipping sauce (looks like a mustard/mayo sauce but better) has a tiny little kick, and it worked well with the chicken. I would pay $22 for the full chicken plate again, stretch it out over 2-3 meals (with a large salad) instead of eating it all at one sitting like I did today.

I really wanted to like this but I thought it was okay. I loooove Peruvian rotisserie chicken and get it a lot back home in multiple restaurants. I love the sides and dipping sauces where I live. The chicken here was okay and had a different type of seasoning it also came with rice that was okay as well. I did not like the yellow sauce. I usually love aji Amarillo sauce but this one tastes weird and kind of smelled of mustard or something and I hate mustard. It was def not what I was expecting so I was disappointed.

As promised...here's that review! It's not often I can promise a five star review when revisiting a place I hadn't been in a couple of years. Rico Rico is definitely an exception! It was a amazing as I assured my husband it would be. Juicy meat (even the breast piece) and delicious rice! The owner was very responsive via Yelp message when I placed my order in advance. HIGHLY RECOMMEND you calling un your order the day before because better believe they sell out. Everything was delicious and we kanacked after! We'll be back!

Simple! Delicious! One of a kind! So happy I finally found a window of opportunity to make it to this food truck parked just before you approach the parking lot to Longs Mo'ili'ili on S King St. With only one item on the menu it makes it very easy for indecisive people like me to order. The only choice you have to make is whether you want a half chicken plate ($13) or a full ($22). The chickens are plump and moist on the inside. The outside is rubbed with a zesty blend of Peruvian spices that create an explosion of flavor that is hard to find in this part of the world. It comes with a yellow banana pepper sauce that is interesting but not necessary to enjoy your meal. As a local who is used to Asian sticky white rice, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the rice that comes with little kernels of corn. It's mild flavor and soft texture are the perfect complement which allow the star, the chicken, to shine. They have limited days and hours Tues, Wed, Fri, Sun 11:00-2:45 so time your cravings for Rico Rico chicken right!

The chicken here is so fricking good!! Maybe the best chicken I've had on the island. I think it is!! I went for a full bird, ate half, and I'm writing this review before I eat the 2nd half!! I love the mustard dipping sauce too!!

The onions and tomatoes were cooked just right--soft but still vibrant--and everything was coated in a savory, slightly tangy sauce that soaked beautifully into the rice. And the fries? Crispy on the outside, fluffy inside, and totally addictive once they mingled with the sauce. Every bite was rich, hearty, and satisfying without feeling greasy. This is the kind of dish you crave again the second you're done eating it. Definitely coming back for this.

My friend ordered a water and a plastic jug was brought out and there was grime all over the lid which made us not even want to drink from it. There's glass on the tables and at the counter that I feel should be kept clean given that it is always near food. The decor is nice, very Peruvian proud. love that. There's a tv with a show showing the women there on some cooking show, very cool and interesting. Good music too. The food? Pretty damn tasty. At least the dishes that actually made it to our table. They start you with free chips and salsas, which are again, very tasty. I ordered Tallarine Huancaino con Lomo. The steak was very tender and juicy. My friend ordered a salad and never actually got it, eventually someone asked if we were okay (he probably noticed she wasn't eating) but at that point, we were ready to leave. I had to remind them to remove the salad from our tab too! The service was just very lackluster. The prices on the menu weren't actually what was charged, which it says at the top they are subject to change but I feel it should just be updated on the menu? They also validate parking for only one hour but that's about how long it takes for them to take your order and get your food to you, so keep that in mind! I gave two stars, one for ambiance and one for food taste. I'm taking stars off for cleanliness and service.

The chicken thighs were beautifully seasoned and slightly charred. The meat was cooked all the way through yet still juicy with bone in thigh. The purple sticky rice was perfectly done and I love the texture of sticky rice in general. The plate also came with sliced cucumbers and pickled mustard greens (reminiscent of Vietnamese pickled mustard greens - but in a much more vibrant green color). My favorite part of the meal was the tart and aromatic sauce that came in the meal. If you're not a fan of lime juice and fish sauce, you may want to use sparingly. However, I was thoroughly enjoying the sauce and when accompanied with a bit of the mustard greens, it toned down the sour aspect of the flavor profile. Overall, so delicious and I would love to find them again and enjoy more of their menu items!

This Eat the Street was pork and their main pork dish was Asado...unfortunately they ran out around 7pm when I got there, so I didn't get any pork. Lame. Anyways, onto the food! I decided to go with their Chicken Saltana. I honestly didn't read the description, but I remember that I wanted something reasonably cheap and somewhat healthy. Can't really go wrong with chicken, peppers, onions, salad and rice. I pride myself on only rating places on their food, unless their service or something else is just absolutely horrendously terrible. But I would like to mention that the wait for my plate was about 35 minutes...standing...in a crowded parking lot...hungry...and tired. I expected more from a food truck, I mean come on now, this isn't a sit down restaurant, you gotta get the order and make it quick and good. At least the live music was good and the moon was quite nice. Opening my plate, I see a pretty nice plate of food. Reasonable amount of chicken and peppers and onions, generous servings of rice and salad, and a little container of what appeared to be dressing. It was all spiced with what I assumed to be Peruvian spices and also cilantro and a sweet oil based sauce used to cover the chicken and veggies and rice. The chicken looked a little plain, but the sweet sauce and veggies and cilantro really went well with the juicy chicken and the Peruvian rice (Twas a little crispy/hard, but very tasty) was pretty delicious. However, the salad was just....bleh...The veggies were fine, but the dressing was basically salt incarnate...and I'm 80% sure I detected a hint of fish, which was not good at all. For $8.90 though...not bad for everything. Overall, pretty okay meal. Without the salad, I'd give it 3.5 stars. Not bad, but nothing too spectacular. I must remember to try the other trucks at Eat the Street next time, I didn't check Yelp to see which trucks were good at the event...and I believe it cost me this time. Oh well...there is always next time.
