Decent, I'd give them 4 stars if the gave an option to mix enchiladas. I wanted 1 chicken and 2 cheese, but they only let you have 1 or the other. The other gripe is the amount of lettuce/tomatoes on the side. Double would be adequate, triple would be better. It helps with the dry chicken. read more

What do you do when you are still 2.5 hours away from Telluride and you are getting hangry? You find a great Mexican restaurant and split half the menus with your friends. Off the main drag in the town of Montrose there are many options, but not one the boasts the menus of Cocina de Luz. We had to get their famous Mexican roast chicken, loaded up with sauces, tortillas and beans. We also decided to get some tacos to try their pulled pork, loaded with more rice and beans. And my buddy saw manudo was on the menu and had to get a bowl (and by bowl, I mean they served it in a GIANT BOWL), slow cooked in sauce over night...it's not my favorite "meat" but they did it justice. We washed it all down with Jarritos (OBVI) and got a side of guac to slather onto leftover tortillas to fill up the belly. Everything was well seasoned. The staff, probably thought this rag-tag bunch out of an United Colors of Benaton-looking Advertisement, was hilarious, but still treated us with Colorado charm! You've got many options for Mexican food in Montrose, but swing into this kitchen if you want those subtle and delicious notes that signal no sauce packs were used making this grub!! read more

Good find -- unbelievably nice owner (I think?), very kind. Interior looks pretty divey (think an old-style fast food place with booths), but the food is solid and definitely homemade. I liked the chicken the best (the pork was a little too fatty for my taste, but I don't have a high tolerance for fat). Complimentary bottles of water, and the rice and beans were really good. We tried three tacos of each meat they offer, a quarter chicken (which my friend devoured!), and a chicken torta (my favorite). I'm am so glad to see that people have discovered Pollo Azado. I really had high hopes for this place. On a recent road trip, we got sort of stranded in Montrose for an extra day due to the weather up on Lizard Head. So many of the restaurants in the area were chains, seemed to be closed for the season, or kept weird hours. But, I spotted a small, completely unassuming little place on 7th, just off of Townsend: Pollo Azado. This place uses the "Do One Thing" model of business, and their one thing is azado. Seriously, if you want mexican and tacos and burritos, you'll need to go somewhere else.The guys were very friendly, and the meal was great. 6 bucks and some change for a 1/4 white chicken, with a small amount of beans (not refried), a side of rice, a grilled pepper and 4 corn tortillas! Tear up the chicken, mix it all in a tortilla, and enjoy the simplest of pleasures.The Azado rub was flavorful, but delicate and all of the ingredients were high quality and extremely fresh. I regret that I have but one road trip to give to Montrose and their simple, yet refreshing, Pollo Azado. read more

This place raised their price extremely high out of no where. All the table were dirty when we sat down. never has bottle of ranch or ketchup. So we have to ask other people for them and closes early so you cant go later in the day after work and take years to make a burger. We also found hair in our food. read more

Best legit authentic tacos in town! It may look a bit dodgy from outside but you walk in and the place is very clean and inviting. The staff are quite welcoming and make solid suggestions. Wonderful friendly and very accommodating service. This is what customer service is about. The proprietor obviously loves what he is doing and it makes it a pleasure to dine here. I lived in Mexico for 7 years, his tacos are the real deal. His chicken is marvelous. If only these small, unique places could offer local food, I'd pay the extra. We have enjoyed the food every time we have gone to Mimo's. Our family normally goes to dinner on Friday nights and would frequent Mimo's more often if they were actually open. Every Friday night we have attempted to go in the past several months they are closed. They do have a sign in the window on the Townsend side of the building that shows they are open, but clearly they are not. Not sure if the owners were out of town or closed due to a issue personal, or business, but there were no signs on the door to indicate if the closure was temporary or permanent. Started seeing life again on FaceBook a few days ago, so will try again.... read more

Food was great but service was not. We went for lunch but ended up getting breakfast, which is served all day. The Cali breakfast burrito was delicious and my friend really enjoyed his Mexican omelet. The portions are very generous. Unfortunately, our server didn't pay much attention to us and we had to motion for her a few times. The food did arrive quickly, though, and we enjoyed it very much. We will definitely go back but I hope the service is better next time. read more

Best Mexican food I've had in YEARS. My husband was hesitant to try it based on the hole in the wall look from the outside, but I convinced him. The place was empty just given the time of day (late afternoon on a Tuesday). The place is spotless and the service was friendly. We started with chips and guacamole. The chips were fresh, hot, and delicious. The guacamole and salsa were authentic and tasty. I got the pollo asada and my husband got the pork adobada burrito. We both loved our meals (and each other's because we shared). All the sauces and sides were amazing. The tortillas were fresh and hot. Everything was so fresh, delicious, and spiced perfectly. Delicious and authentic! The marinated chicken was tender and juicy and the service was exactly what was expected from a hole-in-the-wall restaurant - homey and personable. The prices were very fair with a 1/4 chicken meal only costing $7 and a 1/2 chicken only costing $11; the meal comes with pinto beans, rice, and tortillas. There is certainly not much to choose from to eat in Montrose, but if I'm in the area again I will absolutely stop by for some more chicken as Pollo Azado was FANTASTIC! read more
