My wife & I had a terrible terrible experience working with Aaron (the owner)! He left the work half done (with walls un-patched and electrical outlets open!). Our scope of work included upgrading our kitchen, 2 bathrooms, garage and complete flooring. This was our first ever experience with a contractor and we picked him through word of mouth. Here are the things which went terribly wrong: - It was a big mistake to not have a contract signed. Aaron never mentioned and we never asked because we were new to this. - Aaron changed his quote multiple times that too over phone and messages. Let alone thorough, his quote was never final! (should have known, this is a big red flag). - His sub-contractor started the work by demolishing the kitchen even when the new countertop slab was arriving 1 week later. And the slab got damaged while handling, so we had to wait another 2 weeks. Basically lived with a demolished kitchen for 3 weeks! During this ordeal, Aaron did not care to inform us about the plan or the delays, instead we had to follow-up every single time. - When just the countertop was finished, Aaron & us agreed on an amount. When I paid, he said its not enough and started changing the quote for kitchen multiple times, once again!! - Fed up with the back and forth when we asked for a final quote, he decided to leave the work unfinished with the walls un-patched and all outlets open!! - His own sub-contractor told us that Aaron takes up so many projects that he is not able to focus on any one of them. Which makes sense given the mess in our project. - We still don't have the invoice/receipt of the money we paid, even though he agreed to provide and we repeatedly followed-up. read more

He also gave us good ideas on how the floor should be and it turned out great!I told him I wanted my hardwood done before October 10th (mind you I first met him and quoted me on October 2nd) He was able to put me in his schedule and my floor was done by October 9. This is not based on the quality of this company's work, but on the fact that I had an appointment for an estimate and was stood up without a phone call or email. I only heard from Aaron after he saw that I had left a Yelp review that was not positive, based on his not showing up (this was about 10 days later). I'm sure he does good work, and I'm sorry to not have the chance to have him work for us. We got 3 different estimates for our hardwood floor refinishing in April of this year and decided to go with Mina's. Our house is 55+ years old and we had original hardwood underneath the carpet (living room, hall and 3 bedrooms). Aaron's estimate was fair and actually the cheapest. We liked him and felt comfortable with his experience/knowledge. He told us he'd cover closets/kitchen entry way so these areas would be protected from minimal dust. We also wanted someone who would help with moving large pieces of furniture (small fee) and Aaron offered that. We scheduled our project for August to give us time to pack things, etc. A week before the start, we called Aaron and confirmed details, asked a million questions, etc. He answered and assured us everything would be fine. Well, I couldn't be happier the way they turned out! We wanted the natural wood color and all the different wood grains and that's what we got. Aaron's team did a great job. They came in on a Monday and finished Wednesday. Helped move back our large furniture on Thursday. They replaced an old tiled entryway at the front door with wood and you'd never know it was new. Another area in our master bedroom had to be replaced when we had plumbing problems last year...they did a great job here too. They installed new baseboards and nice transition pieces in the bathroom, living room to kitchen and front door. It's made my old house look so nice and not so old!! My husband was skeptical of having wood floors. He's got bad knees and was worried about slipping/sliding. Well, he was suprised at how beautiful the floors came out and no slipping/sliding for his bad knees. I would definitely recommend Aaron/Mina's to anyone who's considering having their floors done. We used Aaron's service this August. Aaron is very good. Very responsive and sincere. We interviewed at least 10 people before Aaron for renewing hardwood floors. Others weren't this informed. Some gave us just the total amount and others wrote down calculation for the total amount. But none had time to explain about our floors. Some of them quoted more expensive for replacing each wear and tear parts. He is the only one who explained the characters of our floor and pointed out the wear and tear parts and offered to replace those small planks without additional cost. He also gave us break in amount for each room and total for the whole house. We were waiting for the window people to replace our windows before the floors. He was very flexible and worked over the weekend, worked late into the nights and finish of the floors, to get the house for our ceremony two days later. read more

I was incredibly lucky to read these Yelp reviews and decide to have Aaron at Mina's Hardwood Floors give me a bid. Since my mother's house is in Hayward, and I live in Sacramento, I was struggling to get her house in shape to put on the market. Aaron gave me the best price for refinishing the floors of all those I invited to bid, and as other reviewers have noted, he spoke knowledgeably about the floors (60-year-old original hardwood that had been covered for years with carpeting) and what I could expect from refinishing. Later when I was complaining that I would have to be at the house frequently to oversee the tear out of kitchen cabinets and their replacement, Aaron offered to give me a bid on that as well. I was ecstatic with both his bid ($100 below the Home Depot referral) and his sourcing knowledge. He saved me $500 on the granite counter tops by telling me where to get a good deal (their price vs Home Depot best price). He then picked up all of the cabinetry and granite when they were ready, coordinated the whole installation and never missed a beat when it turned out there was difficulty with the prior garbage disposal. I never even had to return until the job was completely done - and he did an outstanding job! when I realized I would need someone to clean the yard and get it in shape, I asked him for references for that as well. He found people, reviewed the work to be done with me by phone (him walking through the yard while I sat in my home in Sacramento), and then oversaw it, all for a great price! I can't say enough about Aaron's delivery on his commitments, his professional knowledge, his great pricing, and his wonderful, instantaneous responsiveness. On the last day, when he came by to make sure I was happy and to pick up a check, I was struggling to install a new light fixture -- he simply took over. Not even part of the job -- just one very nice guy helping a fumble-fingered woman who hadn't changed a light fixture in years. Everyone should treat their customers so well!! read more

We replaced carpeting on a staircase with hardwood floors (a job that can be challenging and intricate given banister posts, borders, and other details), and everything turned out exactly as we hoped. We met with several other hardwood floor professionals and Aaron was really the only one that we felt comfortable with. Others either didn't know how to deal with stairs or outright told us that the banister needed to be replaced (and hence raised the pricing!). It is owned and run by Aaron Esquivel, a bright go-getter who does a fantastic job and seems to hire the right people. His work is perfection. I live in Palo Alto and used Aaron about 6 years ago when we had our floors in both our main and guest cottage redone. He did great work but the best part was working with Aaron. I have never worked with anyone so service oriented and responsive. This year I called him because I wanted to get a quote for new hardwood in our main house. I got a great quote. He also had fantastic ideas for doing small upgrades that were not too expensive but made a HUGE difference. So in approximately 3 weeks he ripped out my old hardwood, installed beautiful brazilian teak, new baseboards, new crown molding, new doors with hardware, new locks and paint. He and I talked and texted constantly. He always picked up the phone or responded to me in minutes day and night. I am horrible with colors and coordination and probably should have hired an interior decorator but didn't have to because he was so helpful with guiding me. He had great ideas regarding upgrades, colors, accent walls, etc. He has always been honest regarding what he will do and what needs to bring others in to do.
