Then the massage started. I had some lower back pain as well as some stiffness in my neck. I forgot to tell her about the neck but mentioned the lower back. I have no idea what kind of massage I went through, but it was a whole-body surface and some areas in deep tissue. It is an oily massage so expect that in your dressing. Starting from back upper/lower, right hand, left hand, right leg, left leg and flip over and almost the same on front. The massage table is fairly comfortable and the ambient was nice. I think the speaker quality could improve, maybe one of those wireless/Bluetooth Costco sound bars help!? The whole session took about 65 minutes (including some rest at the end) and I was done around 6:25. Roby does not rush the massage and does not compromise. At the end of massage, I was feeling comforted and satisfied even though there were some technical difficulties at the beginning (the ones mentioned above). The doorman was nice and polite. The Men's restroom surprisingly was locked and needed the passkey, so you better think twice if you plan to use the restroom there! Both sharp pain in class and then ongoing pain for days after class. I was worried I was going to need surgery, or have to stop practicing yoga- but Sulyn set me straight in no time. I filled out an extensive history beforehand. When I came in we did a movement assessment - I showed her the postures causing me pain. She was also interested in how I walk and stand. She identified right away that I'm overextending my knees, which is putting pressure on the area of the labral tear. She taught me a series of corrective exercises to strengthen the muscles needed to prevent the hyperextension. Then time for the massage work! This is not a rub-some-oil-on-your-shoulders and call it a day - its proper orthopedic massagework from someone who is obviously an expert in what she does. She was extremely firm and confident in her work, but aware enough to recognize my limits. I left feeling a limberness and relief I've not had in years. I've been doing my exercises diligently and my pain is vastly reduced (more like an occasional twinge). Understanding that healing is a process, I'm sure I'll be back for some 'maintenance' work, but I know I'm in expert hands. I'm also back on the mat and so so grateful to Sulyn!
