We visited Minerals Hotel for a wedding. The only reason I'm not rating them 1 star is because the day of the wedding went rather well. The two days prior -- the rooms themselves, the food, the amenities, the staff -- were far from pleasant. I'll start at the beginning of our trip. As family arrives, some people are able to get into their rooms early while others are told they have to wait, which is fine. However, the mother and father of the bride had been there before pretty much everyone, and they ended up waiting the longest for a room...and not before a massive amount of inconveniences created by a lack of organization and proper management within the resort. When speaking to the manager, the mother of the bride was told they would have a room for them shortly, and that he would call her when it was ready. She never received a call, and when she went to the front desk later on, she was told the owner of the room had showed up, so they had to give it to them. The mother of the bride called them out and said, "I know you're not a timeshare." Furthermore, the manager she had spoken to earlier was no longer on duty (Come to find out it was the manager's first day). What should have been a 4pm check-in turned into a 9pm check-in, and then had 3 or 4 sets of keys that did not open the door to their room. EVERY TIME YOU GO FROM THE LOBBY TO YOUR ROOM you have to walk through the hot, humid, indoor pool. Your eyes burn from the massive amounts of chlorine in the air, which is also the dominant aroma you experience throughout THE ENTIRE HOTEL. While experiencing the pools that are outdoors...on a weekend with multiple weddings being held....you get to compete for seats with the locals who purchase memberships.
Don't even get me started on the food! We made the mistake of dining at Kites twice. Expensive and stressful mistakes. The first time was merely underwhelming, especially for the price. The second time, however, was horrendous. We were a party of 9 and our food came out a few dishes at a time, which would have been acceptable if it hadn't taken a good 5-10 minutes between groups of dishes coming out. To make things worse, the wings my daughter had ordered as a meal didn't come out at all. After bringing the mistake to the attention of our server (who was great and only on her 3rd day...seems to be a revolving door around here), it took another 20 minutes for the wings to come out and they were COLD. What transpired after cannot be fully described here, but I will do my best. Upon receiving his dish, my date realized the meal had ingredients that weren't on the menu, and he was not fond of it at all. On the menu it states "Roasted Goffle Farm Chicken, Cannellini Beans, Fingerling Potatoes." What he got was half a chicken that was dry as a fart, over potatoes and beans mixed in a red sauce. He is not a fan of chicken with tomato sauce and won't even eat chicken cacciatore elsewhere. Then, I found a hair in my extremely overpriced risotto. To begin with I was unimpressed with the risotto. I can make better at home. On top of the risotto (for an extra $10, totaling $31 for the dish) were four unseasoned, boiled shrimp...and they were rubbery. So you would think this is as bad as it gets, but you would be wrong. The manager comes over and makes things go from uncomfortable to extremely awkward. Replacement food starts coming out before we ever get to say what we want to do about the issues. Ultimately three dishes are removed from the bill, but it doesn't stop there. We get one bill and hand a gift card over to pay for the bill, only to have the server come back and say we owe more than what was on the card. We were confused at first but realized they charged the full amount (prior to removing the three botched dishes) to the gift card. We had an 8:30pm reservation and this debacle had us stuck there, with two young children, until 10:30pm. Some people in our party were still hungry, all were frustrated.
The next morning we find out they don't provide any kind of coffee or continental breakfast. Mind you, this was after sleeping on a rock-hard bed in a mediocre room. We had recently paid similar money for a two-bedroom suite in another establishment, so this was disappointing, to say the least. There was a good deal of mold visible in the grout of the shower tile, and by the end of our stay, our tiny trash can had ants all over it. So, we attend the wedding ceremony that evening, which was lovely, overall. That being said, guests were unsure of where to sit, were given no direction, but then a whole group of people were asked to relocate -- out of the shade we had sought out, and into the blazing sun -- to seats closer to the aisle. Young children and elderly family members begrudgingly abandoned their seats, only to watch other guests arrive and take those seats. The breakfast buffet the next morning was again mediocre, but the food at the wedding was phenomenal. Staff overheard saying managers do nothing read more
