It seemed like Monday evening at 7pm just might not be their "A" game. Server was pleasant. Salad bar was not good. Lettuce was chilled but starting to wilt. The beans, potato, chicken salad, beets all tasted well past their prime... just bad. They got my wife's order wrong... but they re-prepared it and got it right, with the added benefit of it being hot. My meal was correct but disappointing. The Pork Tenderloin were just thin cuts (probably beaten) that had nothing but the sauce going for them. The veggies (green beans) were tough and cool. Mashed potatoes were ok. Minervas connects to the Best Western Ramkota Hotel and they also cater the motel's banquet rooms. It was one of the latter that hosted a welcome dinner for our tour group. You might say we were a captive audience. We were led through a long foyer with incredibly filthy, worn carpeting to an attractive banquet room with much newer carpeting. The tables were nicely set and the servers were friendly and attentive. Good dinner rolls and tiny but delicious house Italian salads awaited us. A simple charcuterie plate intended to be shared barely make it halfway around our table and was not replenished. We were offered wine or beer (included) and given a choice of 3 entrees. The Missus and I ordered the honey pepper salmon. The entrées tasted okay, except that everything arrived lukewarm and the portions were stingy. Nice place for it being attached to a hotel. They were running a Valentine's Day Special. We started with the salad bar. It was amazing and I should have just stopped there, but I've never had Walleye before so I had to get that. My Potato Walleye was perfectly cooked and seasoned, but there were some bones in it that I had to dig out. My husband's Tatanka Filet was nice and tender. We ended with the Butterscotch Marshmallow Bread Pudding. My husband likes coffee with his desserts so he ordered an Irish coffee, but it was an Irish Car Bomb and not just a hot Coffee with alcohol. We have also really enjoyed both breakfast and lunch buffets there. There are several Minerva restaurants in South Dakota, and I have eaten at the Yankton as well as the Sioux Falls location but never went to the Rapid City location until now. It's larger than expected with seating. The service was good, and the food was decent but not fantastic. I ordered the chicken pasta since steak was not on my palate. It was what I expected, and it was a safe dish to order. Parking is tricky since its connected to the hotel next door. There was no wait and I would return if given the opportunity to find a place to eat at the last minute. read more

We were staying at the Best Western attached to Minerva's in Rapid City. We ate there for a few meals... we found the food, service and ambiance all to be excellent! I wasn't expecting it to be so nice or the food to be as great as it was.... I had their Salmon one evening that was cooked perfectly on a bed of rice pilaf with vegetables cooked to perfection. My BF had Medallions of Pork cooked in an outstanding Marsala sauce over the freshest smoothest whipped potatoes. The service was terrific and a trip to the salad bar did not disappoint. read more

Minervas is a solid hotel restaurant serving Rapid City, SD. This very large restaurant is reminiscent of restaurants I visited as a child when we went out to a nice meal. It is located in the Best Western conference center next to the mall and Interstate 90. Parking is generous, but shared with the hotel. I found Minervas because they have walleye on the menu. There was no problem finding a table early on a weeknight, so I was seated immediately and opted for the salad bar. The salad bar is old school with basic salad ingredients, pasta and fruit salads, and soup. It was decent and worth the upgrade, but it would not make for a full meal. I paired the walleye with a nice glass of wine from their good wine list. The walleye was delicious, prepared well and served with a nice sauce. I was glad they had this fish on the menu and more impressed that they prepared it in a way to showcase the delicate flavor. Service was quick and friendly even as the place filled up with the after work crowd. They also have a large bar with old school video lottery machines too! If you are looking for a classic upscale casual dining experience, Minervas is a good option in Rapid City. There were scrambled eggs, the well done kind. One could make their own waffle with the usual batter. The fruit salad was probably the best part. The fruit was good. Mini muffins were dry and sugary. We passed thru last week on our return to WA from holidays in WI. What a great surprise this place was! It totally fit the bill for relaxing after a long day's drive. Very comfortable place and excellent service. A really spectacular salad bar with good soups is a plus. Went here for our 7 year wedding anniversary for dinner. Great ambiance and kind and attentive waitresses! Got food quickly and it was hot delicious! Shortly after digging in, the fire alarm was pulled in the adjoining hotel. Staff quickly found out who was responsible and offered to completely pay for our meal even though the fire alarm was pulled by a hotel guests' teenager! They were so kind to recognize that this was supposed to be an out of town special experience and made sure we get that way!! We're talking an appetizer, two entrees, dessert, and sodas! Got take out here after a long day of hiking and thought the food was decent and packaged well. I called ahead and ordered the steak tips (which came over a bed of delicious garlic mashed potatoes) and cajun chicken pasta. The cajun chicken pasta wasn't too oily and was delicious and the steak tips were cooked perfectly medium rare. Overall, it was a decent takeout meal and I'd recommend Minervas. My experience this restaurant was pretty bad over the course of my three day stay at the hotel. Breakfast the first day was actually really good with generous portions.. the second day we ordered the same thing as the breakfast with half the size the pancakes were burned. The eggs were cooked over hard when I ask for over medium because it could be no attention and let them get too done. The third day we came in they only have one cook one server and one host and they told us it would be 25 minutes to be seen even though the restaurant was fairly empty then when we finally get seated people that came in after we did got seated before we did and then we were told it would be several more minutes before they could see us. They had lots of tables to get Seat a small party of four, but they see that the other group before us. Then, breakfast at 45 minutes to be delivered cause be very late. The restaurant is understaffed and the people are so rushed that are there with the quality of service and food prep is terrible. They have a very good salad/soup bar that you can add for $5 to any entree or purchase for $10 if that is all you want. Very fresh and the dressings were homemade. Had tomato bisque soup and a nice salad with tons of topping options. Great taste all around! For my entree I had Cajun sirloin tips topped with onion tanglers with a blue cheese sauce. Pleasantly surprised by this in hotel dining place. Large but intimate, there are several different rooms to dine in. Large bar, busy the entire time I was there. Clean and well staffed we were waited on within 2 minutes of seating. Ordered pre-dinner drinks. That ended up being very small crown and coke with almost warm beer. No repeats on drinks for sure. The Wife ordered an shareable called Black and Blue Chiklas. Very original and the taste was superb. Check this one out, is was amazing. She added salad and soup bar for $5 more. I had the Bison Burger which was good; thick patty and Carmelized onions. It was strange though, it came with nothing else. There was a piano player softly playing during dinner. When you think of a best Western Hotel located on the south side of 90 interstate, you're probably not conjuring up an image of fine dining. Well in this case, with Minerva's, you're dead wrong. What you'll find here is an upscale, Rapid City family style restaurant with terrific food, service and atmosphere. Location is totally convenient, near many of the hotels. As a visitor to Rapid City there's a pretty good chance that you will be staying in this part of town. The dining room has a comfortable, warm feel, including fireplaces and nice furniture - they have a well-stocked bar and a decent wine list too. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable. She seemed connected to our group and made me feel well taken care of. We started out our dining experience with some appetizers and several variations of martinis. With calamari, spinach dip and a couple of martinis we were off and running. I had grilled salmon - it was cooked to perfection... delicious. Several in our group had Wagyu beef and they all raved about the flavor. If you are not familiar with Wagyu, it's Japanese cattle that are bred with Angus cattle. This crossbreed is considered American style Kobe beef. Give it a try... We were having a wonderful time at dinner so I spurred on some dessert orders from the group. There were eight of us, and we tried three different desserts, the bread pudding, the tiramisu and the brownie in the jar. We passed them around for a final sugar fix. That fully satisfied our cravings for sweets - perfect! If you're visiting Rapid City, put this restaurant on your short list for fine family dining in a super convenient location. I'll be back! My wife and I stopped at this restaurant on June 28, 2023. The waiter was nice but poorly communicated the arrival and problems with the preparation of our food. My wife ordered a cheese burger and fries which arrived about 40 minutes BEFORE my order. Her hamburger was greasy but the temperature was warm. Her meal was delivered by another server and the table next to me had their order taken by a manager, as our waiter was not seen for (30 plus/minus) minutes. I had ordered a ribeye, medium rare. After my wife received and finished her meal, the waiter finally came by and said, "oh, let me check on your salmon." (I didn't order salmon?) Later a different server brought me a second glass of wine; which was different than my first glass I ordered, (Paso Robles Cabernet) and instead, brought me a Pinot. I was not charged for the first glass of wine, (Paso Robles) which was a nice gesture and reason for the higher than one star. When my ribeye order came out, it was very thin and gristly. It was closer to rare but I was hungry so I ate around the fat and gristle which took it to about a 1/3 of edible weight. My baked potato was on the cooler side. Salads were okay. They come heavily dressed with black and green olives, which I like, but not my wife. The prices for the wine were not unreasonable but the food, given its quality was over priced. I was expecting at least choice grade meat to be served in cattle country? I am guessing they were short staffed both in the kitchen and servers. No fault about those factors but to make up for staffing, they could talk to customers and advise of situation. read more

I suspect these lovely folks may have failed to fully anticipate the amount they'd be busy on a Friday night - service was a tiny bit slow in a way that was really clearly downstream of there just not being enough waitstaff (even though the individual people all seemed excellent and competent and moving as fast as they reasonably could). But a good drink and a nice self-serve salad bar makes it really hard to worry too much about that! And the bison steak was, in fact, amazing (after a small snafu with my husband receiving initially a well-done steak instead of the requested medium-rare, which was replaced), I was fascinated by the interestingly different texture and flavor compared to a beef steak. Special mention for the mushroom whiskey sauce, which we were able to get as an addon with the bison steak instead of bacon, and which I 1000% recommend for any cut of steak, it was MARVELOUS - not only did it perfectly complement the meat flavor, it was independently just really amazing, if you gave me a soup bowl full of it I would happily eat it with a spoon. I would have liked to see a cocktail menu - I love me a This Particular Bartender's Specific Weird Thing He Made Up - but I can't complain about a simple glass of merlot with my steak, either. My wife booked this place for her parents 50th wedding anniversary with family. We have a celiac son and her dad needs low salt and they have plenty of options for both. However the normal menu is fantastic too. I had their steak special with garlic potatoes and it was absolutely delicious and cooked to med-rare perfection (always a bit of a crap shoot with mid-west restaurants - especially ones attached to hotels). The flourless cake with ice cream was also delicious. We had a party of 16 and our server was massively patient, helpful and professional. Good good, good beers and good service. Tonight I had the New Year's Eve special. Seafood risotto. Wow what a disappointment. The menu said mussels. I got one. The menu said shrimp. I couldn't find one. The menu said scallops. I got one but it was quartered. The tomato based sauce had no flavor. I think they drained the juice from spaghettios or some other knock off tomato in a can sauce. Probably Sam's club. The risotto? MUSH. Over cooked slime that was left under a heat lamp. The good news in this culinary disaster was the mushroom. At least I got one but the bad news is that it was a canned pre sliced afterthought. Minerva's doesn't employ a chef. They pay a cook. And not a very good one. The GM needs to pull his head out of the sand if he wants a bonus cuz I covered my plate after four bites with my napkin so they didn't think I wanted a doggy bag. This restaurant is part of a hotel right off of the interstate with lots of parking. The decor is beautiful inside and it's nice and cozy, especially with the fireplace. Our server was Robert and he was awesome! Very professional, helpful and knowledgeable. Hubby has the Angus burger with cheese and fries and loved it! I had the "pick 2" lunch special with half a Reuben and the salad bar. The Reuben was delicious! Lots of choices on the salad bar too. We split dessert, which was the Butterscotch Marshmallow Bread Pudding. Okay, okay...hubby had 2 bites and I ate the rest, lol. Yes, it was that good!! We really enjoyed the food and the outstanding service here and can't wait to get back to try more! This would be an awesome date night place for dinner as they had unlike candles on the table that I assume they light for dinner. We spent two nights in Rapid City at the Best Western on 9/22 & 9/23/2020. First night, my husband ordered the pork marsiles & he said it was one of the best meals he has ever eaten. It looked so good and I'm sorry I didn't take any pictures but had to recharge phone. I had the vegetable stir fry and I can't say anything bad about it. Next night after going to Mt. Rushmore and all the other sights we ate here again. I had the coconut shrimp and tomato basil soup....OMG they both were excellent. We had the same server both nights and I'm always impressed when they can remember what you drink. Sorry I don't have his name but he was very good. Our waiter was very rude and unprofessional. Off the bat he was not happy to serve us, a party of 10. When we asked to speak to the manager he too was very rude and justified the waiters actions...We were denied any more alcoholic drinks until we ate some of our entrees?? This immediately ruined my whole meal. I am from out of state but will not recommend this restaurant to anyone. UPDATE: No Molly, your "management" team did not do the best they could. We were not warned or told we were being cut off from ordering more drinks. If that was the case, we wouldn't have ordered our entrees. Your "team" needs to be retrained. This has the first time in 10 years since we left Rapid. My husband had the steak tips and I had the potato crust walleye. Both meals were excellent but the reason for three stars is the Octoberfest kuchen dessert and slow service. The kuchen was not a kuchen it was more like a bread pudding- very disappointed.
