Nothing like getting Chinese's food after working a Saturday! Decided to try out new china star in Rocky hill for take out and delivery ! We ordered online and estimated about half an hour for delivery . We got the food well within the time provided and the food arrived HOT ! I ordered the chicken Lo mein combo meal which came with pork fried rice and an egg roll ! The chicken Lo mein hit the Spot ! It was delicious highly recommend ! The egg roll and pork fried rice were really good , and cooked to perfection. they provided plenty of soy sauce / duck sauce to go with it too ! My husband got the general tso chicken which was good too ( wasn't spicy very flavourful ) Overall highly recommend , great spot for Chinese food and great delivery service ! A cool thing about eating with friends is seeing them order things you never think of. Like when I first saw my friend Laura order Moo Shu pancakes at a Chinese restaurant about 20 years ago. I ordered lunch from New China Star via DoorDash for the first time today, and I decided today was Moo Shu Beef's turn in my Chinese rotation. New China Star's Moo Shu was fairly standard and consisted of thin strands of cooked cabbage, carrots, mushrooms and green onions, small strips of beef and fried egg pieces. A savory broth-type sauce tied everything together, but it wasn't too saucy. This blend was served with crepe-like Moo Shu pancakes and hoisin sauce. New Star's Moo Shu version had good texture and flavor. The rich, sweet hoisin is a nice foil for the good salty, brothy Moo Shu sauce. I preferred the vegetables to the beef, but it was all pretty good. The thin square pancake held together surprisingly well. I upgraded to pork fried rice and also ordered an egg roll. Both were good. The rice was not oily and the pork pieces were decent. I could have used a bit more flavor. The egg roll had a good-different flavor than most other place's egg rolls. I thought I detected a small hint of rye flavor, but that doesn't seem right. It also had great color and texture. Their egg rolls are a fave but some of their other winners include Teriyaki Beef, Steamed Dumplings and Vegetables Lo Mein. And of course, you can't go wrong with the classics like Beef with Broccoli or General Tso's Chicken! Oh, and if you're feeling like a random treat, get the french fries. I hate to admitt it but this place has won me over. After having a rough experience the first time I ordered take out (I think there might have been a language barrier) from New China Star - I dubbed it the "mean Chinese take out place" and refused to give them my business. However a couple of weeks ago Mark and I were getting out getting some fro-yo for later that evening and since it was around lunchtime Mark mentioned that he had a craving for some House Won Ton Soup. Reluctantly I went and placed the order for him while he got the fro yo, but refused to order anything for myself since they were still blacklisted. Once home, Mark let me sample some of his soup when and boy did I make a mistake by not ordering some for myself (espcially since Mark was unwilling to share). Since Won Ton Soup is my "gold standard" for Chinese take out - I have high expectations. Their version of the soup was flavorful and the wontons had both a great balance of pork to dough and the pork itself was flavored nicely. The broth also had a great salty wonton flavor that I love. In addition the soup was chock full of chicken, shirmp and vegetables. Since then we have gotten take out from there a couple of times and each time they have been positive experiences. The food is made fast and the portions are sizable. It's not imaginative or inventive Chinese food by any stretch of the imagination but sometimes you just need some good bowl of House Wonton Soup and some Boneless Spare Ribs or Mu Shu Pork and call it a night. On business from California my co-worker and I sat down this evening to some fresh, hot and delicious food. I don't eat meat or seafood so I had the Broccoli in Oyster Sauce and Vegetable Lo-Mein. My friend had Sweet & Sour Pork and House Lo-Mein. We love it!!! The place is clean, and they were keeping the kitchen clean and the dining area. The cashier was super sweet and professional. OK, you all know how I feel about the chicken here.... See my tip in the Tip section. But, they really do make Awesome eggplant with garlic sauce!! And they use the Asian eggplant which is long and slender like a snake. It tastes so good. I really hate it when Chinese restaurants use Italian eggplant for this dish it totally frustrates me. So, I admit this is my go to place for this dish and they do it right. The fried rice is ho hum so I stick with white rice. They also offer some Thai dishes here but haven't had them. Came here after reading reviews during my search for a new Chinese food place. I must say, a couple of places are closer to me including one fairly new spot and they just do not do it for me. While one has a fairly nice sit down service area, I find the food to be very bland and overpriced. I have been dying for great General Tso's chicken and this place really hit the spot for me. The chicken was moist and not overcooked and most importantly, the flavor was so on point! I also ordered beef lo mein which was equally tasty. I love this place. I don't order delivery very often because I'm a germ-a-phobe and not sure if a smoker will be bringing me the food. New China Star is clean, fast and fresh. Every time I've ordered, they have gotten my order correct. I know that's the way it should be but not always the case with other places. The speed of getting my food to my door was incredibly fast. That means I'm eating hot food. Jason was the driver that brought me my dinner and as I tipped him, he reached to give me change. I told him to keep it and he was genuinely perplexed. I know it was a good tip but it allowed me the time to have dinner when I was hungry and saved me the trip of going out to get it. His look of gratitude was priceless. That made me feel good! New China Star has terrible food, not worth stopping for lunch at this place even if you work within walking distance of their Rocky Hill, CT location. I am really having a hard time understanding these other reviews. I can think of about 300 Chinese food resteraunts I would prefer between here and Boston, MA. New China Star is cheap Chinese food, that isn't even that good from cheap standards. If I was driving by and had not eaten in a week I wouldn't stop at this place. I have gotten sick roughly half the times I have eaten this slop and have learned my lesson. Stayed the night in the area because of work had a craving for Chinese food for some time now and I was hungry not really the type to experiment when I'm this hungry really glad I did when I picked up the phone and called a little hard to understand the guy but he understood me a little difficult to order with out seeing a menu of some sort with sizes and prices. I told him what I wanted and they had it. I guess it's pretty standard across the Chinese restaurants but felt a little dumb not knowing what I was getting. Now for the food I would say really quick for delivery food after 15 minutes of hanging up they were knocking on the door so fast I didn't even have the money ready to go. Food was in good portions and it was amazing it wasn't just good because I was hungry it was just that great. I think they should look into publishing a website with a menu something basic and set up a way to take credit card payments. We were able to feed five people with $23 (very reasonable), and took left over home for next day's dinner (very large portion). There was a coupon in the menu on top of the cashier counter for over $20 order, and we even got a FREE pork soft noodle lomen!! A very good food, one of the best Chinese take out foods we ever had. Delicious! Sesame chicken is a regular for me and it was cooked perfectly. Not greasy, not doused in sauce. The pork fried rice was also wonderfully cooked. Instead of the usual undercooked/cardboard texture like most chinese rice I've had, this rice was moist and well seasoned. The egg roll had a nice and flaky crust. I got beef and broccoli here... sat down to enjoy my "food" and - wth is this? I had about 10 pieces of beef fat on a bowl of rice. It was disgusting. I threw it out. I thought it was a fluke, so I gave them another try.... This time the sesame chicken, it had good reviews here... so, ok. Get my food... the sauce was good, the rice was great. The chicken? I got take out on a trip to visit a friend - even though she was a local, neither of us had tried the food... we just really wanted delivery close by so we gave it a shot. I was pleasantly surprised. I can't speak for all of the food, as this was one time - but I got the chicken in garlic sauce combo plate, so it came with an egg roll and pork fried rice... for $8! Great size, definitely two meals worth in my opinion. The chicken was good, despite some mixed reviews I read below. I did make the decision to stay away from the fried chicken dishes, because it's typically a risk when you don't know if it'll be mostly batter or actually have some chicken. This is always a huge hit or miss at new Chinese places. However, my friend got the general tsaos... the sauce was great, but the batter to chicken ratio was just okay (3 stars for that)... I would suggest sticking with the unbreaded/not fried chicken to get the most meat. We got an order of the fried pork dumplings... delicious, but thickly breaded. The best part was on the take out menu it offered a coupon for a free quart of fried rice if you spend $15... sold! So for $22, we got two orders of chicken with rice and egg roll, plus an appetizer, plus a free quart of fried rice. No delivery fee over $10... no brainer!
