Our family went back here for a 2nd time, remembering the food was pretty good. However, this visit was no where near as pleasant. The food itself was fine and the good value, but the service was atrocious. Our server tried to upsell us on market price seafood more than once, and after we refused a couple of times, she started to become condescending. She made blunt comments about how "unknowledgeable" we were about certain dishes we wanted to try. She was mean and snappy to other staff by needlessly barking out orders. Once we tried helping move some dishes around on the Lazy Susan to help make room for incoming dishes, and she basically yelled at me to say that I wasn't helping. I don't really put up with this type of genuine rudeness anymore. There's too many good alternative restaurants that make you feel welcomed, that I have no desire to come return to this one. read more

I'm really disappointed with my experience at this restaurant. It was extremely loud, which already made the meal uncomfortable, but things took a turn when I noticed several serious cleanliness issues partway through my visit. I saw dead rodents stuck to a glue trap, along with rodent droppings on the floor and even in a child's booster seat. Seeing this was enough to raise major concerns about the restaurant's sanitation, health standards, and overall food safety. If the finishes looks like this, I can't imagine what the kitchen conditions might be. I've reported to Vancouver Coastal Health, and won't be returning. read more

We got together for Chinese New years dinner. We had a party of two tables of 14. Mom ordered a set dinner which included an appetizer and ten courses. Every dish was amazing. The flavors were spot on and cooked perfectly. The season was spot on and the service was quick and efficient. Each trip, I make it a point to try at least one or two new Cantonese dim sum location. This was my choice for the most recent trip. Comparatively speaking, dim sum in Vancouver is absolutely delicious and better quality than what I find in NYC. However, prices are also much higher, especially for the most popular common items. That was the case here as well, but I find their portions to be bigger than most other spots in Vancouver. For example, where else do you know that gives the patrons five big hargow in one steam basket? Therefore, I believe that this is a rare dim sum place where you do get good value. As for the taste, since all dishes were ordered on paper, everything came out hot and fresh, which is always a good start. Standouts for me included their Fried Bean Curd Wraps w/ Prawn & Pea Tip Leaves, Steamed Creamy Egg Yolk Custard Buns, Baby Octopus w/ Satay Sauce, and Crispy Durian Balls. Both rice dishes we had were quite tasty too. I will continue my quest tasting new dim sum restaurants on my future visits to Vancouver. We came for dinner. My first time here. Free underground parking. Plenty of street parking. I give the food a solid 4 stars. Delicious and tasty. Fresh ingredients. The Ambiance I would give a 3 star. Comfortable seating, bright and spacious. However it got quite loud at times and it was difficult to hold a conversation within my group. Service. I am conflicted here. There was plenty of wait staff available. However we were never checked on. If we needed something ie hot water refill, more napkins etc it took awhile to flag someone down. Most tables were ordering Peking duck and/or king crab. We ordered crab sticky rice ($148.00), Peking duck combo ($158.00) and pea tips ($5.00 extra). - Soup - Beijing duck 2 courses - crispy skin with crepes and duck meat lettuce wrap. Standard - Honey garlic spareribs - Crab sticky rice - bunch of tasty, but you have to work for it, crab legs. It is all about the chef and this place has one of the best Cantonese style crew in B.C. Sure, it is cramped seating, not banquet large and ventilation can get stuffy. Sure, you are asking for requests every time the server passes by but he doesn't hear you above the shouting conversations and every table is asking for something...because they are slammed. Sure, it is a bit on the pricier end. What you get is delish food that will stuff you to the rim and when you get home you wished you had one more bite. *King Crab highly recommend. after awkwardly finishing our banh mis in front of a condo building in the cold, we decided to cross the street to check out the dim sum situation at paramount chinese seafood...and just like that, despite the crowd, we managed to get a table for four without a reservation, on a weekend! we've been here before when it was called lucky plus, and the vibe felt familiar. the tables are crammed for maximum seating and the restaurant was loud and full. we skimmed the menu, circled a few dishes, and attempted to flag down a waiter to take our order. we had the following: steamed crystal shrimp dumplings (har kau), five in a basket bean curd wraps with meat in oyster sauce hand-crafted rice rolls with minced beef, (very delicate) deep-fried squid with chili salt steamed fish maw with shrimp paste deep-fried sesame balls with black sesame paste the dim sum here is solid, and came out piping hot. again, we attempted to flag a wait staff to get the bill and someone from our table got up and paid directly at the cashier. we also managed to play charades across the crowded room to secure two takeout containers from another server. a hectic but enjoyable dim sum experience! read more

We came here for a birthday dinner. The service was great and the food was pretty good. We told them we had an allergy and they were really good accommodating our dietary restrictions. We came back the next day for dim sum. I was told if you didn't make reservations or knew someone that getting in on the weekends were impossible, that was evident and this was a weekend, there was no tables available and standing room only for patrons waiting for a table. This restaurant does not use a moving cart system for dim sum, you need to order off a menu. The portion size was fairly typical for dim sum. The dim sum certainly lived up to why they were so busy. The one knock I had was for the chicken feet, they didn't seem to rock my boat, they were good but not the best I've had. This certainly is a outstanding restaurant for dim sum. read more

Dined here with my colleagues to celebrate one of my colleague's retirement party. We were a party of 15 so they sat us at two tables. We ordered a bunch of dishes to share and the portions were perfect for sharing. The prices were reasonable and we ended up with leftovers. My favourite dishes were (sadly I don't know the name of the dishes because my manager ordered all the dishes on our behalf) : fried rice, crispy battered shrimp, crispy duck wrap, fried fish which came in a special sauce. The jello dessert was delicious and unique too (because of its consistency it felt more like a jello cake). Overall I enjoyed the food and liked trying new dishes. The service was meh. We kept on having to ask them for more tissue and water. They also didn't bring out any utensils (we had to use the utensils that were with each large dish). A few people were still eating when one of the staff started telling us to wrap it up because they wanted to bring out the dessert. Then they brought out containers and put it on the table and 2-3 minutes later she came back and started speaking loudly and told us to hurry up and pack the dishes...at this point the restaurant was still open and 1/3 of the restaurant was empty so it was not because they were closed/closing. Formerly known as Lucky Plus, the restaurant is now under new management and operates as Paramount Chinese Seafood Restaurant. Located at the southwest corner of Rupert and 22nd Avenue in East Vancouver, it has limited underground parking and challenging street parking nearby. The dining room feels overcrowded, with tables crammed together--just about a foot between them--making the space feel tight and uncomfortable. The atmosphere is typical of many Chinese restaurants: lively and noisy. However, some details could be improved, such as providing more than one paper napkin per customer, especially given the average dim sum meal costs around $25-30 per person. The food presentation leans toward a fusion style. For example, the pork dumplings come in portions of five instead of the usual four, and the rice rolls with minced fish paste are garnished with shredded seaweed rather than green onion. All dishes were served hot and tasted great, although the prices are on the higher side. One downside is that service seems to favour those who speak Cantonese or Mandarin. Despite this, I plan to return to try more dishes and possibly their dinner combo menu--preferrably on a weeknight when it might be less crowded. read more

This was a nice Chinese restaurant. We ordered about 5 to 6 dishes, and they were all fairly delicious. The service was that of your typical Chinese restaurant. They take your order, try to push you to buy crab, and then they put in your order. You wait about 10 minutes or so and the dishes start coming out. Everything is hot and pleasing to the eyes. The food tasted great. We had a lot of leftovers, which was nice, so we could eat them the next day. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. Nothing was extraordinary but nothing was bad. We had a reservation for 7:30 for 12 people on a Saturday night. When we arrived there were many people standing in the doorway. We were told that our table was almost ready, just waiting for it to clear. We saw the table clear and then to our surprise, they gave it to another group. By this time we had waited 25 minutes. We spoke to the manager who was unapologetic, he even told us that a reservation didn't guarantee a time, only guaranteed a table. Needless to say, we were in no mood to wait anymore and we we're definitely not going to give them our business. We made a quick reservation at another restaurant and left. There are so many good Chinese restaurants in Vancouver, we don't need to take that kind of attitude. Also, while we were waiting we met an acquaintance who just finished their meal there, he didn't want to tell us at the time, but later told us that he did not have a pleasant experience there.
