When you come into this place you can tell it is very old school style. I dont mind it as long as the food is good. One thing that wasnt very professional was that they had a private room with karaoke except it wasn't sound proof at all. Everyone in the main dining area can hear the people sing the whole time. We came here for the peking duck. Unfortunately it was not very good. The presentation was poor and most pieces were dry. There were not many pieces that were skin only. The crepes were unique - usually other restaurants give maybe like 8 crepes but this place gives supposedly 16 mini crepes. You can see that the crepes were on the dry side so I guess they didnt steam it fresh. I like the mini better so that I can get more wraps out of it. In other restaurants you wrap 8 and then you just have to eat the duck skin as is. The 2nd course was ok. The salt and pepper squid had good flavor but the squid was overly soft. The salted egg yolk prawn looked like it had a lot of egg yolk but for some reason it. didn't have much egg yolk taste to it. There was a sharp metal piece that was stirred into the prawn dish and we asked what it was. They said it was the prawns spikey shell. We didn't really buy it but we let it go. The fish maw soup barely had any fish maw in it. I dont think I would come back. Dim sum here is pretty solid. Most of their dim sum dishes are under $10 and dim sum is 20% off if you dine in. In the past I found some of the servers to be rude, but this time service was quick and friendly. I came with a group of 8 and we ordered a variety of dishes. So I came here to try dim sum as a guy on YouTube was raving about Cindys Palace as one of the best places to eat in Lower Manhattan. Man, I don't know what he's thinking and I certainly didn't get the same type of food he got. It wasn't on par for quality or freshness. So disappointing and won't be back. Hope the owner will work on the following: 1: I made a reservation three weeks in advance, but when we arrive, they could not find my name or phone number which was very upsetting. They moved my friend to two different tables. 2: the first 3 dim sum dishes came out cold. We made a comment and the sever took the pea tips only to heat it up to medium. 3: we found most the the dishes really greasy like cheap oil grease and hard to stomach. The House Special Crispy noodles were glowing in oil, not seasoned and came to the table moderately warm. 4. But what really ruined the experience was the service. The server made repeated, unsolicited comments about me having children, including saying I "should have one so your mother-in-law has something to do." What was supposed to be a quiet meal turned into a five-minute unsolicited lecture from a complete stranger about my reproductive choices. It's clear there's little to no staff training when it comes to professionalism or understanding basic customer boundaries. Personal intrusions like this are wildly inappropriate in any restaurant setting. There are plenty of other places in the area with better food -- and staff who actually understand what service etiquette means. We ordered takeout from here during COVID and we were so happy! The food was amazingly hot and fresh, and they packaged everything so well, so that it tasted like you just ordered it and it didn't take a 30 minute drive across town to get to you! We ordered a few of our favourites from other restaurants that are special dishes, but Cindys Palace has them all in one place! We order the mayonnaise pork chop, house fried noodle with seafood and veggies, Honeymoon Fried Rice, and spring rolls. They package the sauces for the fried noodle and rice separate so nothing gets soggy. This is the first time I've seen this and I think it's such a great idea. It takes more containers however. The pork chop dish was so generous and delicious. Lots of yummy sauce and the pieces of pork were balanced with crispy and fatty bits. The noodle dish also came with so much of variety, prawn, mushroom, bok choy and squid. And lastly, the honeymoon fried rice, with half tomato sauce and chicken and half cream sauce with shrimp and peas hit the spot! Not sure if I was hungry or the chef is different from the dim sum chef. Well dim sum has always been ok here. But I was surprised dinner here was pretty good. My mom ordered the fried shrimp with pineapple and mayo. Wow the shrimp were very good decent size. Pineapples were from a can but I am a big fan of pineapples and there were lots. Also they were very generous with the mayo. Well anything with mayo is yummy technically. Also the shrimps were very well battered and fried perfectly. We also we got the Peking duck 2 courses. The wraps were shockingly small. Well there were 16 tiny wraps (we didn't count but that's what was advertised). We dined here on a weekday and the two courses were discounted for $39.80. Well, I think that is pretty cheap. So the duck skin was nice and crispy. Even though the wraps were tiny and different from other restaurants but they were really yummy. Service was really good here. The server came around frequently. Definitely dinner beats dim sum here. Prices were reasonable. My parents dine here quite often and so they got a 10% discount VIP customer card off their meal. Went with two friends who have been a multiple of times, including for family memorials. So they love this place! Definitely lived up to the hype! I have missed good dimsum since moving from Toronto so Cindy's was a real find. We order way too much and 2.5 hours later we were sitting at our table unable to move. Har gow among the best I ever had and everything was fresh and delish. We could see the kitchen from where we were and everyone was hustling and there was a constant lineup. This a solid Chinese Restaurant! We visited today to Celebrate Chinese New Year, Valentines Day and Family Day weekend. We were not disappointed, dim sum was awesome. Three generous portions of stick rice per order with good amount of meat inside, har gow was also good size and chunks of shrimp, Singapore vermicelli yummm! Deep fried squid - It's mediocre and oil taste like reused. Sweet and sour pork - It's good but not great. Lobster in premium soy sauce - It wasn't impress and lobster didn't taste fresh. Mushroom and vegetable - It's simple dish but too much corn starch sauce/ Overall, huge portion of dish but poor quality of food. In the Covid era, almost everything is takeout only and the number of takeout boxes sitting on the table was a clear indicator that it was a busy Saturday night at the Palace. Ordered: - Assorted meat and seafood w/ deep fried tofu - Deep fried silver fish with/ spicy salt and pepper - Beef and flat rice noodles in soy sauce Cindys is standard Cantonese fare. Good food but not blow your mind amazing. BTW, never had an issue with their service and have never been overcharged. We got served our drinks pretty quick but we still hadn't gotten any food at 7:20 even after we asked about five times if our dishes would come soon. I've been coming here for dim sum the last few months now. I've tried some other places in between but end up coming back here. The food for the most part is ok, but not all that consistent and the portions are a decent size. I usually order the same stuff, mostly dumplings and sticky rice. It's a pretty decent size place and the servers are nice enough. It does get busy later on and on holidays. To be honest my last visit here wasn't very good, everything seemed not fresh, I can't really pinpoint it but it wasn't good, most times I come the food comes piping hot, like steaming. This last time it was barely warm, like it was almost leftover from the day before?? I dunno..... but I think I'll give this place a pass for a while...... The absolute best pork & shrimp siumay ever!! Incredible flavours, huge sizes, plump, juicy dumplings. A must try!

Drive past this place all the time and I figured, heck, maybe this could be a new dim sum haunt. That was FAR from the reality. In contrast to other dim sum places where dishes are priced as either small, medium, large or special, the ones here are all individually priced (between $5 and $6). The first dish we had was the Deep Fried Pork Dumplings. These were a bit crispy on the outside but overall, were mostly gluten and lacking in very much of any filling lol. The next dish we had were the deep fried taro dumplings. These were nice and crispy outside...off to a good start, but then for some reason, the filling had a lot of curry sauce which was really off-putting. Third on the list, we tried their beef meatballs. I'm not sure why, but these were just flat out overcooked to the point that they were mush and lacking in any taste. The tendon and tripe did not come out much better as they were also plain mush, were bland, and for some reason had a giant amount of oil to it. The pork and mushroom dumplings were probably the highlight of this visit though as they still had a decent level of firmness and flavouring from the mushrooms and shrimp. The turnip cake though...oh gosh. These must have been fried, frozen, and refried as it was just straight up oozing with oil. Same goes for the sticky rice wraps. These are traditionally cooked with steam, but for whatever reason, they were just basking in a pool of oil as well...yet still lacking in any taste. The shrimp and peatip dumplings had a nice firm wrapping but were missing something though. The pork and preserved egg congee was a bit scary. Instead of evaporating the excess water through slow cooking/boiling, they attempted to use some sort of starch I think to thicken the congee. This made it super watery with clumpy patches. The pork also tasted a bit off...kind of like it was old pork that was frozen for long stretches of time. Overall, the pork and mushroom dumplings were probably the best dish here. Prices are steep for the quality of food that you're getting. To their credit though, the servers were terrific. They were super attentive in always refilling the tea and taking away dishes and super friendly. It's too bad the food didn't live up to the same quality as the servers. read more

I have been coming to Cindy's Palace for a number of years now and to those in the know, they know this place is a gem for both Dim Sum and for dinner meals. Whenever we need to meet up with family and friends in a neutral area (because we're coming from all corners of the lower mainland) we often decide to have an early dimsum here or a dinner. I emphasize on the early dimsum. They open @ 9 so it's more like breakfast on the weekend. My cousin comes often, there are certain dishes that we love too. Anything you can find on the menu with tea leaves is excellent. Dim sum is average, but they do have some signature items. All I'll say is come early for a better experience. The food is better, it's cooked better, things are less stressed and you can enjoy your meal and conversation with your table mates. Yes. Cindys (yes they are missing an apostrophe) is a really charming Not sure if I'd call it a hole in the wall, as they have their own building. The owner (whose name is actually Cindy) mentioned they used to run Golden Phoenix down the street, until deciding to sell it off and open their current restaurant. So for the record, these are 2 completely separate establishments. Parking is available both on the street, as well as in the rear where there are several spots. During weekdays, dim sum here is 20% off. Saw the poster. The staff were friendly (actually a little bit *too* friendly, just like Kenneth E. mentioned, but A for effort). It is true, they are a bit too eager to pick up your finished dishes. But I'd much rather have this happen than the opposite (aka nonexistent service). Another special mention is that the staff let us in 15 minutes before closing, knowing we were sit-in. The place was deserted too, so they kept a couple of staff on hand just for us. Not many places will do this. One of the guys kept trying to stay awake while watching a Chinese drama. I'm sure his shift ended right about the time we showed up. The interior is mostly vinyl paneling, with some dark wood accents. To be honest, the 1st thing that this place reminded me of was Burnaby Palace nearby (their current location on Boundary, not the old one that's now gone). It's actually pretty decent, though it screamed "renovation" to me. How was the food? Simply excellent. The food was served piping hot. Even the congee was bubbling in the clay pot when served. I haven't see this outside of Asia at all. The deep fried smelt were crispy yet soft (dense Styrofoam came to mind), and the oil was surprisingly clear. I really hope the owners do well here. The staff are really really nice and helpful. We came as a group of 17people and they try to combine 2 circle tables to one so we can talk to each other. Their dimsum size is so huge, so I will say their price is reasonable. We ordered too much today (as always!). Siumay, shrimp dumpling, silver fish, fried rice, etc. YOU MUST ORDER THEIR PORK BUN! it's THE BEST! Before last night I've never dined here, yet I drive past this restaurant all the time. At least 350 days out of the year!! So my youngest turned 16 yesterday, she requested Peking Duck for her bday dinner. I was game, but I didn't want to go for the usual places we always go to. So we went to Cindy's Palace. I'm glad we did! Because it was a Monday, it wasn't too busy at all. The restaurant is way bigger on the inside that it looks. From the outside it looks like a small size place. Once I walked in, I was pleasantly surprised that it was bigger than expected, and nicely set up. I was expecting a "Greasy Spoon" type place. It turned out to be nicely decorated, it had comfortable seating, pretty chinaware, and heavy utensils. When I say heavy, I mean the spoons and forks were not the cheapy ones that seem like they are made from Aluminum Foil. Service was great. Polite, Friendly and Knowledgeable. If you've ordered Peking Duck before, you know that it's either a 2 course or 3 course dish (depending on the restaurant) I love dishes like that. Cindy's offered a 2 course PKD dish; the crispy skin with crepes & the lettuce wrap. They just had a delivery of fresh Tilapia. This fish dish was a three course dish! First they filleted the meat and served it on top of vegetables, Then they took the bones, breaded it, and then deep friend it with onions and chives. YUM! The 3rd course for the fish was soup!! We ordered on more dish. This was made with Pork Belly slices and Okra. SO VERY YUMMY! When we finished dinner, we asked for "Tong Soi". Not only did they bring the Red Bean soup for us, they brought out the peach tear shaped birthday buns for us as well!! They placed a candle on the centre of the plate and they sang happy birthday to my daughter. Very nice touch, very unexpected. A couple of things could use improving on ... like most restaurants ... the bathrooms need an over-haul. I didn't get to look into the cooking area. We will definitely go there to dine again. The place was generally packed with many older generation Cantonese-speaking people the few times I have been there. That usually says a lot! Decor is old-school Chinese restaurant (ie fairly simple). Service is typical. The only negative I would say is sometimes it does take a while for the dim sum to come out. I think it is because they cook/steam their dishes fresh rather than to bulk cook dishes and leave them in a warmer. That method would slow things down considerably.
