It can be difficult to find hair salons that have experience with Asian/Vietnamese hair specifically, but Maggie is well trained and very skilled. One time, she found a wallet on the side of the street with a library card inside, and since I was headed to the library afterwards, I volunteered to walk it over. After leaving a message with the library, I later got a call and we had successfully returned the wallet to its owner! It's been 4 years since my original review. I had the same haircut for those 4 years and recently wanted to make a change to my hair. I showed Maggie a picture of what I wanted and what resulted was nothing at all with what I showed her. I wanted something that maintained some of my length that I worked hard to grow but much of it was chopped off without at all asking the length I was comfortable with. The haircut she gave me aged me back to the 1980's lol. This place often does have appointments and walk-ins -- the stylists here try to fit as many people as possible. I had an appointment, but I felt like I was being rushed and just given whatever. s It seemed like she even knew she didn't do the job right as she just said "it will grow out". :/ After 4 years, it's time for me to find another stylist. No frills shop to get a haircut. I've been coming to Connie on and off for the past 3 years. I usually call to make a appointment and I know she is off on Sundays and Mondays. The prices have gone up and it's now $20 for a haircut. I usually have gunk, gel, or pomade in my hair so I request to have my hair washed for additional $5. This is a great price considering many barbershops charge $50 or more for a haircut now. Connie is really friendly and does a great job of spending close to 30 minutes or more on your hair. I usually request for a fade and a "hardline". She asks you to rinse your hair after the cut and blow dries your hair before styling it for you if you want. I leave a satisfied customer! read more

A budget-friendly and lovely hair salon if you don't care too much about the details and just want a trim. Before coming to Ming Yuet, my last haircut was a year ago. It was December and I already planned to get my hair cut in April (which did not happen LOL) and I was really sick of my crazy long hair (around my waist), I spent so much time washing and drying my hair in the winter. It wasn't efficient in both time management and energy saving (haha). I heard about Ming Yuet and some of my friends have been its long-time customer. To be honest, I was really nervous since most customer photos are a few years old. I was debating, then I thought "I'm getting a trim anyways, the worst it could be is just... I let it grow out for 3 months and get it trim again." With that mindset, I really have nothing to lose, also I was very much looking forward to saving my time, my shampoo/conditioner, and my water bill. Sounds pretty fair, right? I called in the morning to see if I can squeeze into last minute appointment, and luckily I did! I was greeted by the stylist, she was super friendly and asked about what I wanted for my hair. I told her I just need a simple trim and keep the same length. We chatted when she was trimming my hair, and it was done in 15 mins. Days after my trim, I did notice that both sides in the front weren't symmetrical,... my hair was still long (around my chest) so I don't think anyone would notice, and I planned to grow my hair anyways. Omg, I came in & asked for trimmed long layers with a side bang. She immediately starts laughing because I have a lot of hair. I have thick & curly hair btw. A pretty average place to get a haircut. For the type of haircut, I don't think I'm willing to spend $15 on it. You're better of going back to Chinatown and get those $6 haircuts. Because at the end of the day, no matter where I go, I never even once received the exact same haircut as from the photos I show to the stylists. To be honest, does it even matter anymore what photos you show them? Because for guys they will always trim your side 0 or 1 and cut your hair on top a little bit. Terrible. My daughter came here 4 days before her prom asking for them to just layer her hair. Instead, they cut her armpit length hair to her chin! They did not even achieve their job of layering the hair-- it was choppy, thick, and uneven. She looked like an aunt from the 80s! The woman cutting her hair kept on tugging my daughter's hair down after she cut it, as if to try to make it longer. She knew she messed up! My daughter cried for hours and begged me to book an appointment with my hair stylist at another salon to fix it! The hair was beyond repair, we could not add extensions or anything! Ming Yuet is usually my go-to haircut place when my usual barber is booked or I just need a last minute cut. I come here probably once or twice a year (I get a haircut every 1.5-2 months) ever since my freshman year of college and have gotten every stylist at this place to attempt to cut my hair how I like it. They do appointments, but I just walk in most of the time and can get seated within 10-15 minutes. I try to style my hair in a type of Pompadour/comb-over combo so I like the sides to be tight and even. I usually ask my barber for a bald mid fade for the sides and trim the top just a bit. Anyways, my normal stylist here I called "Z" who was the only dude that works at this place. Not hard to miss him since he regularly has dyed hair. Good thing about him though is he knows the trends and he understands how to do an actual fade, not those people that say they understand and leave some uneven sides on your head. Unfortunately, I haven't seen him on my past visits so I don't think he works here anymore. The other ladies I've had in the past, I assume, don't really know what a fade is so I've just explained to go from a zero to a one on the sides which they can do fine, but sometimes cut way too "inwards" for my sides if that makes sense. They kind of trim the top way too much for my liking too. Okay, so what really impressed me on my visit this past week was Maggie! (or that's what I assume her name is since it was on the certificate at the station she cut me at) She understood I was asking for a fade and kept the haircut exactly the same as the way I styled my hair! She even asked if I wanted a line up which took me off guard. Wow I was impressed with the haircut, it felt great getting my hair cut exactly how I wanted and I'd for sure come back anytime for her.
