Coolest coffee shop evah!! But, wait -- there's more!! Instead of a set of Ginsu Knives, you get a bookshop, Balsamic Vinegar and even groceries. They'll throw in a really cool vibe for no extra charge, but you must ACT NOW. Just kidding -- this isn't a Ronco commercial (if you get that reference, you might be a growed up human. This place is a must stop if you are on the Island. I walked in the door, and was greeted by an overwhelming feeling of love and warmth. The further you go back, the groovier it gets. There's the bookstore -- which is small and mighty, then you come upon the most eclectic grocery store where they have natural, healthy foods -- including a whole little drug store and a really cool place to get so much honey and some really interesting vinegar options. I can't recommend this place enough. Now, get yourself on a ferry and head on over to Vashon and enjoy an epic experience. read more

Minglement is one of my favorite spots on Vashon. Attached to the Vashon Roasterie, it's what I would call an old fashioned "hippie mercantile." The charm of the creaky wood floors and shelves full of bulk medicinal and food grade herbs, organic foods and other products is right up my alley. This is the one place outside of an Indian grocery I know I can find asafetida for cooking. Service is laid back but helpful, definitely a place to feel the island vibe! read more

Bad experience with the owner Eva. She snuck up from behind me while I was sitting in a chair, physically grabbed me without my consent, in an aggressive and unwanted manner, and demanded I pay a "suggested donation" cover charge which I had already paid! She easily could have approached me with respect and used her words to hash out the misunderstanding. I had paid the cover charge to the woman at the door and I think there was a miscommunication. It really embarrassed me in front of my friends and spoiled the whole night. I will not be spending my money here ever again. She was unapologetic about her creepy and rude behavior. I have spent thousands of dollars here and I did not appreciate being singled out and harassed in front of a small intimate group of people. I have childhood trauma (physical abuse) and I do not react well to being grabbed by strangers. It really ruined the whole night. It is never okay to surprise grab a person if you don't know them well! read more

Odd name. Good store. The first thing I should point out is that Minglement is not the Vashon Coffe Roasterie. Same building, different business. It's not the bookstore or ice cream place either. So reviews for those belong in different places. It's not going to be the place for your weekly shopping, but they have so many great things. Enough produce to make a good soup, plenty of local meat and fish for the grill and lots and lots of herbals and teas. The prices are a little steep, but since it's one of 4 grocery stores(I don't count the two convenience stores) that's not a surprise. The quality is also worth the price. If you're a local it's a good place to stop if you forgot that onion once you've left town or you want some local lamb. If you're an off-islander it's fun to visit and get some local product to take home or for a picnic. read more

In recent years, the store relocated to the Seattle's Best Coffee building and carry on the tradition of roasting coffee on site. Your source for hard to find herbs, teas and remedies. Bulk herb and tea prices are excellent. Many staff members are very helpful but it is good to do your homework first, as none of them can actually advise you on what to purchase... The building is the oldest on Vashon and super cool in itself. This is the kind of place that is very hard to find these days. I hope it never leaves Vashon. How wonderful to walk in here. It reminds me of walking through a menagerie, but full of hand-curated foods, some locally grown, many organic, and specialty items such as vegan and gluten-free. You'll find some local handycrafts, as well. Herbs stacked to the ceiling are simply a joy for pursuing. Talk to the knowledgeable and helpful staff, for they can help you discover great items that are tucked away in one of the many nooks and crannies. The experience today at Minglemint was disappointing. I'm new to drinking tea and was hoping for some recommendations. The guy working the register was very dismissive and said there were "hundreds to chose from" and that I just need to go "read the ingredients" and "pick them out myself." I realize that there were hundreds to chose from which is why I was asking for help and recommendations. It was during a busy time so I get why he came across as a bit flustered. My suggestion is for the owners to hire more help for the busy times. I ended up leaving without purchasing anything. read more

Minglement is awesome. It's situated in a gorgeous, well-preserved and unostentatious historic building at the center of the island. This place serves the best drip coffee I have ever had in the Pacific Northwest. The vibe is local and unpretentious. Really sweet. The only downside I can think of is that the grocery part is a bit on the boutique side, but it's good and no more expensive that other places of its ilk. It's changed, not only has it moved up the road t the old SBC building- it's moved in to stay. http://www.minglement.com They have a wall of their own teas in dusty amber jars, roast their own coffee with a guy who knows coffee( Jim Stewart...Stewart Brothers Coffee? Later it was Seattle's Best Coffee hence the SBC building?) and a lady who knows her stuff but her name isn't on the coffee bag so I don't think she wants the limelight but tell her she's fabulous. If you mention the boss they'll know who you mean. ;) Anyway they have a very respectable produce section and an espresso counter and of course the entire store sells NOTHING but organic foodstuffs. They have all natural beauty products and extracts and supplements for those of us who like a little ground whatsit as a remedy for what ails you. They have also kept up the island tradition of the old timers coming in nearly every day for coffee and kept their mugs from when it was SBC. The staff is very polite, knowledgeable and helpful. When I come to the Island, I always make sure that I stop at the Minglement. What a great place to stop by and get fresh roasted coffee. The locals hang out here in the morning drinkiing their coffee and talking. I love the small town feel. We were lucky to stop in Friday morning when they were offering fresh baked Apple pie from one of the locals on the island. They even have a healthy grocery store filled with fruits and things you dont see in the normal grocery store. A definite place to stop when visiting Vashon. A must see when visiting the island. The people that work there are great too. Very helpful and nice. read more

When I was a kid and I was very good, my mom would buy me a Tiger Milk bar when we shopped at the Minglement. It was a carob kind of childhood. I always bought her homemade soaps for Christmas from here. We like to think we made eachother happy, but the truth is I still love browsing the aisles at the Minglement whenever I get back to the Island. Incense, oils, tiger balm and teas - this is a fun and wholesome place to browse and a true island staple. read more

This place was awesome!!!! While we were just visiting for the weekend and our hotel wasn't super viable for cooking, we loved perusing the shelves of whole foods, honeys, spices, gifts and books. The guy working behind the counter there (Chris?) was super cool and we really enjoyed the long talk with a fellow beekeeper and our shared Northwest experiences. We spend a couple weeks a month on the island and without doubt we head into TVICR every other day or so. Sure, the coffee really is top notch and the teas are aplenty but the "imagine." FOOD is in its own class. I just have to rave and let others know that TVICR is not just about beverages and pastries. I eat according to the Abascal TQI diet and my husband couldn't be farther from it yet there's ample selection for both of us AND the kids which is so hard to find outside the kitchen table these days. Last week I asked my son what he wanted for his birthday dinner and he enthusiastically said, "Thai Mango Wraps from the island!" I was soooo happily shocked because the wraps are basically 100% veggies... but there's no way in the world I could make them. I adore the grain salads myself -- so fresh. imagine. simply knows the ins and outs of the modern taste bud. TVICR/Minglement: PLEASE start stocking salad dressings for sale!!! read more
