    Minglement (inside Vashon Roasterie)

Minglement is one of my favorite spots on Vashon. Attached to the Vashon Roasterie, it's what I would call an old fashioned "hippie mercantile." The charm of the creaky wood floors and shelves full of bulk medicinal and food grade herbs, organic foods and other products is right up my alley. This is the one place outside of an Indian grocery I know I can find asafetida for cooking. Service is laid back but helpful, definitely a place to feel the island vibe!

I went here for the first time the other day and it was so charming! The baristas were so friendly and welcoming and I loved the atmosphere. I saw another review describe it as a "hippie mercantile" which I think is the perfect description! I loved the stained glass, the Rosa Parks portrait, and the apothecary-type jars. :)

This place is so cute! Picked up a few snacks. Have tonnes of gluten and dairy free options. Also everyone is soooo lovely and helpful!

Nice atmosphere and the coffee was good. My girlfriend's latte didn't have enough foam but I think the woman making it was being trained.

Never having tasted the coffee, and knowing how much I like dark roasts, I picked up a bag. The first thing I did upon returning to my place, was brew up a fresh cup of coffee. The 100% Arabica beans lent off a heavenly aroma leading my imagination to the fertile hillsides of Columbia, the jungles of Sumatra and the plantations of Cuba. Excellent flavors! This location of Trader Joe's was relatively close to my high school classmate's home, so I stopped by quickly to take a look beforeIhad to meet up with her. I was so happy to see that the peach-colored AND turquoise-colored mini insulated coolers were available (at the entrance)! They're really handy as my niece has been using them to bring her leftover dinner to work for lunch the next day! She said that these mini coolers are a good size! I got some for her father, sister, and mother! Inside, this Trader Joe's was clean, spacious, organized, and well-lit. I got some snacks, greeting cards, and some yellow nectarines! I started looking for the store mascot and asked the cashier if these plushies were the ones. I showed her a photo on my phone, spotted the correct mascot, and took a photo when a female worker approached me and told me that "no photos were allowed in the store". I thought that she was joking until I looked at her facial expression. She was serious. Shucks. Oh, well... it's over. We got our prize (a lollipop) and took a photo outside of the store. We still went back the next day for more snacks and greeting cards because I had a bit more space in my luggage... LOL!

I couldn't be more impressed with the staff, and slightly (I mean SLIGHTLY) lower prices than Thriftway. I also didn't realize there was an attached, yet apparently separated, pizza place. So, we'll definitely be trying them next and seeing how it is! Thank you IGA, for your managers and your entire staff. They were helpful, courteous, and really great. We'll definitely come here first next time we're on the island for anything we may need!

They do have a small bulk foods section, a nice looking fresh meat department and a small bakery section. Their meat selection included some lamb, and both ground bison and bison steaks that looked very nice. They had smoked meat that were smoked in-house and I bought and tried their smoked turkey bites. They were delicious!! Smoked and nicely dried (not all greasy like some smoked meats I've had). This store is sort of old and not very pretty, but it gets the job done. The staff were friendly and polite during my visit and the parking lot was easy to get in and out of. Since this store is a block or two away from the main drag, I got a little lost the first time I tried to re-find it (after just having glimpsed it while banking nearby the day before).

We were having a craving for ice cream on island and went to a few ice cream shops and were not impressed with what the island had to offer (2 businesses selling heavily freezer burned overpriced ice cream). Also the customer service we received from other establishments was very shocking. A lot of unfriendly teens. We had given up on the idea of an ice cream type treat and went to Thriftway to get groceries for our stay and were excited to see they had a gelato counter. The young person named Cass (hope I am spelling their name correctly) was INCREDIBLY sweet just a lovely person and great employee. Cass is the one who encouraged us to try the pumpkin flavor and we are so glad that they did. Thank you Cass and Thriftway for adding sweetness to an already perfect day!

We almost never have this issue when buying directly from farmers' markets, so I'm convinced there's something wrong with how they store and handle their produce. Other reviews mention the same thing. They also replaced locally grown cilantro with cilantro grown in Mexico, without any note or explanation. Getting fresh, locally sourced food is literally the only reason we order from them. We had an order that was supposed to be delivered on Thanksgiving morning (that's what it said on their newsletter), but it arrived on Friday instead. When we contacted customer service, they gave defensive response that three minutes after we placed the order, the system updated to the "correct" delivery date, even though their newsletter said they don't deliver on that date. The response didn't actually address the lack of clarity about the delivery date. They even once included a slip of paper with someone else's name, phone number, and address. We're done with this place.
